A good place to get out of the rain, sort of.
We had a shortened rainy day at the Cliffs of Moher so we visited Doolin Cave. We took a short (<1 hr.) tour. My review title is a bit of facetiousness-- there's a lot of moisture dripping from the cave walls. The cave is remarkable in one respect, one huge stalactite in a large chamber. Our guide was well versed in cave's geology and history and the small on site snack stand had some rather tasty baked treats.

      Amazing and inspiring
Fascinating- must be able to handle narrow darker areas plus walking up and down 125 metal steps with good hand rails. Guide very knowledgeable and patient with the young children in the tour group. Maximum number in each group is 18 so peak season definitely make a reservation online.

      Amazing cave
It's a 45 minute tour and the guide was very informative. Gave us time for photos, pointed out details. You have to be able to do the stairs, 9 steps in a section and 14 sections (120 steps). No worries if you need to rest, they encourage you to do so when required.

Would advise against if you have young kids
The same thing happened to us as the family below, we were kicked off cos our son was too loud, they were nice about it and we were offered a refund but i think they should put a lower age limit on the tour, we thought we would be moving more through the cave, like in the aliwee caves, and werent aware there would be so much standing around listening to the tour guide, and our two year old obviously got bored, from reading the reviews there's a good few families with young children whove experienced the same. it's not nice for anyone so i think they should just put a minimum age limit on the tour

Definitely a must do, great day out experience
Our tour guide Myles was lovely. Sometimes these Tours can be boring but it was very interesting, kids loved it especially the information on Fossils. Great value too, lots of different info, time flew and we loved it. You can do a lovely walk before or after including a fairy village. Would definitely recommend

      Overpriced
Tour was decent but price absolutely ridiculous for what it was. Stalactite is cool but rest of it quite underwhelming.

      Interesting Cave
My wife and I enjoy going into caves. The Doolin caves are easy to navigate inside, plenty of parking and a cafe. It was a great place to spend some time on another rainy day.

A must visit to see the Stalactite
Travelling around County Clare and visited the Doolin cave which included a guided tour. It was very fascinating and gave us a great insight into the caves findings and what has happened since. It has the worlds largest freestanding stalactite and is well preserved and they take oh&s seriously even on the tour.

We had heard this might be a stop we would like....we're glad we did!
On our way to Ballinalacken Castle Country House, we were happily surprised to find Doolin Cave right below the Castle property, so we pulled in! We're so glad we did. The history of its discovery is amazing, the walk down into the cave was easy and exciting (might not be for some, but we thoroughly enjoyed it). And the awe of seeing the Stalactite was breathtaking. Out tour guide was great! Very informative young lady who clearly loves and enjoys her work. An exciting pleasure that was well worth the stop.

It passed a few hours but still not sure if I really think it’s worth the money. The guide was very informative and friendly, but still undecided.

WOW! Absolutely breathtaking to see one of the largest stalactites in the world. There are a lot of stairs, but it is completely worth it!

      Great activity near Doolin
The stalactite is so much more impressive than we were expecting, the pictures really can't do it justice! The tour guide really brought the place to life and had such obvious passion for the place. Would definitely recommend.

A fantastic exploration into the heart of Co Clare, mind your head!
We had a fantastic tour, led by Richie! His enthusiasm for the cave and little bits of info were what really made it. The best part, (aside from the inhabitants, I'll let Richie introduce you to them) was when you walk into the main cavern with minimal light like the first people who discovered it, and then the lights come on for the big reveal! Absolutely amazing and dramatic entrance to a fascinating piece of geological mastery. I'm slightly claustrophobic, but loved it so much would definitely do it again if in the area.

The nature part is great but the entrance fee is much to high. We had to pay 17,50 a person to look at the stalactiet in a group of over 15 people. They do 2 groups at the same time in 45 minutes.
Our guide was a young guy but his accent is extremely Irish. He talks very fast and tries to make jokes in between. We travel all over the world so our English is rather good but we lost track after 5 minutes listening to him.
He does asks the groep, after each 10 minutes story, if there are any question but nobody ever has. Probably because most people lost track.
We didn't want to say this to him because he did seem to be a nice guy.

Thank you for your review. Due to recent unavoidable increases in various operational costs, we find it necessary to adjust the price of our cave tour at Doolin Cave by €1. While we have strived to maintain our prices, the rising costs of living, coupled with increased VAT rates, electricity, and wages, have left us with no choice but to make this adjustment. It's important to note that we made every effort to avoid any changes to the tour price at the beginning of the season, and have now made this decision as we head into the quieter period. Since our establishment over 17 years ago in 2006, we have only altered our tour price a total of 3 times, reflecting our commitment to keeping our offerings accessible. We take pride in the uniqueness of our cave tour experience, ensuring that each guest receives a personalized and intimate exploration of our captivating cave - tour numbers are small, and fully guided. Our fully guided tours offer an unparalleled opportunity to connect with the wonders of nature in a way that adds value to your visit. Your continued support and understanding mean the world to us as we strive to maintain the quality and excellence you have come to expect from Doolin Cave. We remain dedicated to providing you with an unforgettable journey into the heart of this remarkable natural wonder. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. Best regards, The Doolin Cave Team

Booked tour night before, on arrival couldn't download qr code but was given tkts anyway only to hand them in about 30 secs later to tour guide- but that was only issue and a bug bear of mine these days when booking anything online! Cian was great guide, informative but with humour and covered all health and safety issues especially the 125 steps down then back up however there are stools on the little landings if required. Fascinating story of how the stalactite was discovered. Great effect when Cian turned all lights off for few seconds then shone torch onto the stalactite to show how the 2 guys would have first seen it! Nice little gift shop and cafe at the end!

Really wonderful experience and well worth the 125 steps down and up. Went with 3 young kids and it was safe and well laid out for them. Reveal of the stalactite is magical and kids loved all the info from the tour guide. Note, tour would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues as is damp underfoot and has a lot of stairs. But there's a lovely cafe with tasty food and yummy coffee. We got some lovely pieces of pottery as well made from the glacial clay in the cave. Highly recommend

Our first experience of an underground cave was this week when we visited Doolin Cave in Co.Clare. We were so glad we did it and had the privilege of a cave experience. Jenny greeted us on arrival & could not have been more pleasant & helpful. We were a little early so enjoyed a lovely coffee & a cake in the cafe on site. We also had time to explore the beautiful garden & the animals. Simon was our guide & from the minute he introduced himself we were at ease. Everything was explained & safety & covid protocol were well adhered to. The tour was so informative & though we wouldn't be the fastest on our feet Simon was more than patient & so attentive. He is so knowledgeable & you find yourself hanging onto his words & imformation.Highly
recommend this experience, definitely something different & nice to do.

Visited here with my family 3 kids 6-11yrs old.All I can say is wow!!What an amazing place, from the staff to our tour guide.I have only been on two cave tours in my life here and the aillwee cave, compared to the aillwee cave this is a more intimate experience where you feel you are actually going caving and not walking into a tourist attraction, dont get me wrong aillwee cave's are fantastic and I would highly recommend to anybody to visit but this has a different feel to it from the shaft you walk down to donning your helmet and entering the low tunnels you have to navigate into the main chamber.Proper footwear is recommended plus a light jacket as your 200ft below the surface I think it's cool enough and there is water dripping down in certain sections,if you have real mobility issues I wouldn't recommend it as going down will be tricky but going back up would be a nightmare,I would recommend the aillwee cave's as they may be more accessible. If your driving in Clare and you are near here or have done the aillwee cave's and think a cave is a cave,do not drive by it trust me you will not regret it.

This is really tough for people with disabilities, aged or claustrophobic. It requires you to walk down 200 feet on steps and then back up. Most people on our tour had to stoop as the rock ceiling is very low. When you have been to many caves, getting to the single stalagmite, did not seem worth the close quarters and the steep stairs. Improvements cannot be made but a more serious warning at the entry would help make the decision whether to go down or not.

We visited as a family group aged from 8 months up the tour guide told us from the start that the tour was going to be fast as they were a staff member down he rushed us from that moment on. He was very rude and had no people skills. The baby in the group was crying and he basically said that the baby would have to leave. What we learned was amazing but unfortunately the tour guide ruined the experience for us

I like caves and this one did not disappoint. Be aware that you have to descend a metal staircase equivalent to six floors and then climb back up at the end of the tour. The passage to the main chambers is not very tall and you could bump your head but they give you a hard hat to wear. So, know that you may have to stoop from time to time. You are rewarded with a view of this huge stalactite. Perhaps the best I've ever seen. The tour guide was very informative and answered all questions. Definitely a worthwhile tour.

    Amazing to see great stalactite.
Don't expect much more but this and great story how it was found. For me it was more than enough. Anyway, worth visiting.
You must first get down the stairs, short 30min tour and after you must climb up 🙂like 6 story building.

This is probably an underrated attraction on the County Clare coast, in the shadow of the Cliffs of Moher. But it’s so very worth a visit. The story of the discovery of the cave system, and the large stalactite, is also strongly linked to the area’s geology. Our guide was really keen to ensure we got the most from our tour, and that we moved through the sometimes restricted passages safely. His commentary was very informative, and laced with doses of dry humour along the way.
