- C410WRcrisv0 contributionsRecommended experience! The trip was really nice! There was information on board about Ireland’s Eye and Howth history. Also, there is a stop to see the seabirds, although in winter they emigrated so we couldn’t see much. You can also see the seals in the harbour. The captain was really friendly and communicative. - Tommy0400 contributionsExcellent customer serviceThe customer service with this tour company is excellent. They were very helpful as there were traffic issues on the motorway, and were very understanding, allowing us to re-schedule for a later trip. The captain was very pleasant and allowed my son and daughter get a real experience of being captain of a ship! They loved it. Even though it was November, it is a tour worth doing. Thank you.Written 9 November 2024

The staff was friendly and the audio on the boat was interesting and informative about the landscape and history. Ireland's Eye was beautiful to walk around and explore. I was really looking forward to this boat tour with my family today as prebooked a few weeks ago. I would recommend the tour for the scenery and wildlife you get to see. Different types of sea birds, seals, and the island.
However, there would need to be some tweaking on customer care with two inexperienced staff and it came across a bit lax that there was an audio guide instead of an in person guide.
The staff member about to scan a
prepaying customer ticket before me allowed a random person to rock up, interrupt and who had,nt prepaid to enquire about the price for the tour. When she said she would pay he took her ahead of the present customer and all the other prepaid customers. This caused a delay getting on board for the boat that was supposed to be leaving at 12pm.
When our ticket was scanned we were directed by the above staff member to which boat to access. Polite staff guided us on board. The boat did not leave until 12.15pm because for some reason the boat tour waited on three loud obnoxious customers who couldn't care less they held everybody else up and were late with their coffees. Would like to know why they were prioritised over the customers on time?
Moving on with the tour and
not letting this ruin my and families experience I was enjoying seeing the scenery and wildlife. I understand safety is a priority on boats particularly with clients on board. While I was standing looking at the island it was time for the boat to dock at the island for some customers to get off. A staff member in the cabin who was,nt driving said to return to my sit in a very unfriendly manner. Don't know if he is like this to all customers but its not really good for the tip cup if he is.
Would like to take this tour again sometime in the future if the above changes happened.

The Captain and his mate took great care of us. He provided blankets against the damp cold, humor, and general kindness to our very mixed age assortment of passengers.
He invited the pair of 3–4 year olds to come sit in the Captain’s chair, which they loved and then keep saying “Aye Aye Captain!” He invited my dad (in his 80’s) into the cabin when it got a bit colder and wetter, and pointed out a flying puffin to him!
On our trip we went out, circled the Eye, and came back. In spite of the occasional light rain we had good views of Howth and the mainland. We saw that one puffin, several seals, and a variety of birds hanging out on the sheer cliff side of the Eye. All in all it was a great trip.

We did the 75 minute tour, unfortunately in drizzle.
The boat was designed for 40 people, there were four of us, so had plenty of space.
In decent waves we sailed from the harbour around the Howth peninsula to the bay off Dublin, the skipper showed and explained some things and we were lucky, there were a few dolphins to see.
Overall a nice little tour from which you have a beautiful view from the sea to the Howth Cliffs.
Small tip, if you take the first tour at 10.15 am, you save 50%😉

I was here with two of my children and my wife. We were at the top of the pier taking in the view as we were early for our booking, when a man came and began shouting at a few boys that looked quite young young to be working for them. He was complaining about them bnot trying to persuade us to go on a trip to the island (irelands eye). We had explained to the boys that we had already booked and they were very kind. He started grabbing some of them and moving them to a busier area. When it was our time to go to the boats we saw another young boy climb out of a small that I doubt my wife could fit in. Covered in oil and exhausted, could not see this not being a health hazard especially on these boys who I dont believe are even legally old enough to work. When we left my two children were cramped together there was very little to no space on the bench and I doubt they could hold the amount of lifejackets they needed for us as it was such a huge group. We were on a boat called the “adam patricia” I gave a quick head count and there was at least 45 people and one crew. There was no safety announcement atleast not that we could hear. When we returned from a great time on the island, we were met with the same man who I presume was the owner. Shouting at what seemed like other boat companies to move their boats off the platform acting like he owned the place. He using very vulgar language which a few children on the boat could easily hear.
All in all I would really not recommend choosing this company, I think they use underage children (only boys) to do most if not all of the work. The man (which if you choose the ride this company, I hope is not there) was abusive in language and shouldn't be grabbing the boys. He was using vulgar language to other companies and the boys. He is a disgrace. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Hi there,
Thank you for your booking. I am sorry to hear you felt this was a 1 star experience. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your time on Ireland’s Eye. While we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, we do feel some of these comments could have been easily clarified with crew on the day, or by email.
All our vessels are licenced by the Department of Transport to carry passengers and crew. Lifejackets are indeed available for everyone on board, we have more than enough on board all our vessels. In future, on any vessel, if you have any concerns or would like to wear a lifejacket, please ask any member of crew and they will facilitate this for you, rather than conclude yourself that there weren’t any, or weren’t enough.
Regarding the staffing and safety concerns, I appreciate your feedback. As a small family-run business, we strive to ensure that our team members are not only treated with respect but also that our guests are provided with the highest level of safety and comfort during their experience. I am sorry to hear that you felt we did not meet these expectations on this occasion. With regards to the age of our crew, again here you seem to have jumped to a conclusion yourself about their ages. We feel this is rather unfair to leave in a public review without anything to base it off.
We do take these comments seriously and would like to investigate further. Please could you pass on your booking details, as we cannot find your booking in our system based on the name on your review. Please email me directly howthcliffcruises@gmail.com with the name on your booking and booking reference number along with the date you visited us. Based on your mention of landing on the island, I imagine this was a few months back in high season?
We would appreciate it if you could get in touch with us personally to clarify some of the issues raised here, and give us the right of reply. While we are disappointed with this review and the affect such negativity can have on our small business, we would also like the opportunity to make it right and ensure you have a fantastic experience with us on another occasion. As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to invite you on board again with your family. I hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future.
Looking forward to hearing from you directly. Thanks again for your time.
Kind regards
Anne

25€/person for a 40-minute trip (announced 50 minutes) where you only see some birds on a rock is way too much.
One passenger was given an unfastened plexiglass window on her head. There was hardly any intervention by the two crew members, it's just that the window was better secured after the incident. A minor injury to the head was the result. This could have ended much worse. When mooring, the lady was no longer asked if everything was ok.
The explanation of the guide (a recorded tape) was OK.

Such a magical day, I went out last Saturday the weather was glorious it was such a beautiful day for a cruise around Dublin bay
To see the beautiful wildlife and fabulous scenery was a lovely experience…
So today Sunday the 15th I did the sunset cruise and that was just as beautiful.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, when you set off there is some great information on board via a speaker…
These cruises are not just for tourists if you’re a local and looking for something new to do this is the ideal way to spend a day out making memories, you won’t be disappointed and it’s great value for money….
I’ll be booking again
Kind regards
Mandy

Negatives : no welcome or any real greeting ..boat left harbour at 9.20 and we docked at 10:05 so it’s not an hour long trip. Automated guide over speaker although handy cannot replace someone on a mic interacting with passengers and having a laugh .
Positives : lovely Boat and it’s very comfortable .Nice cruise along cliffs with great views ..
Conclusion: I would definitely recommend to family and friends but feel for €25 the trip should last at least 1 hour .. the audio is not that noticeable and if the captain manned the mic it would make it a very memorable experience .. overall though I would come back :)

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review. We appreciate all the feedback here.
We totally agree that you can't beat live commentary, generally, the captain does use the mic, but we have prerecorded commentary for times that this might not be possible.
We will absolutely take your feedback on board and appreciate the constructive criticism.
Delighted to hear that you would return, hope to see you onboard soon.
Best regards,
Anne

Absolutely wonderful. I took my dog with me today, one of the guys on board even watched my dog while I went outside to take some photos (today was a bit hot and she was a little nervous so she stayed inside) when I come back he was cuddling her. The staff were so friendly, answered so many questions and went out of their way to help. Allowed me to take some awesome photos at the wheel.
Also upon booking I made a mistake and booked 3 people instead on 2 (not sure how I did this) my email was responded to that night, a refund was issued and new tickets given for the time I wanted. Absolutely wonderful company and the trip was awesome 👌. I could not recommend highly enough.

After visiting Howth from Dublin we happened upon the Ireland's eye boat tour. The team were incredibly welcoming and even waited for my disabled mother to find a toilet before heading out. The €20 fee was more than fair for the experience as the eye is absolutely beautiful. The tour includes details of the history of the 2 buildings on the island and there's a wealth of wildlife to see - we saw a bull seal, ganets, razorbills, gillimots, shags and even a puffin fishing. Highly recommend this experience.

Very accommodating in letting us go on the later 15.30 trip as we missed the 14.30.
We left around 15.40 and came back at 16.15 so, it wasn't an hour long as was what we had paid for, 6 x people in total so, 150 euro for a 35/40 min trip.
It said it was wheelchair accessible however, that was generous. We couldn't really budge & that was awkward at times as the lady I support loves bird life & observing but, It was difficult to point her in the right direction so, I had to try take pictures & show her that way. She and the other ladies really enjoyed the tour however, I feel it was over priced for the less than hour tour with poor wheelchair access.
