About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- JBAD_20130 contributionsGreat Tour of IrelandWe took a 7 day train/bus tour of Ireland in early January 2025. The trip was well organized and the accommodations were excellent. Since the weather was unusual and it snowed and a number of planned attractions were closed, Railtours thankfully provided us with a guide, Richard, who spent the full week with us. Richard escorted us to the various trains, busses and attractions as well as navigating the numerous changes to the schedule caused by the weather. He also shared fascinating facts and details about Ireland which helped make our tour more interesting and memorable. A great tour (despite the weather), thanks to Richard and Railtours Ireland First Class. We'll be back soon!Written 20 January 2025
- 117jeanieb0 contributionsTreated Royally on the 5 Day Royal Atlantic TourWe just returned from the 5 day Royal Atlantic tour with Railtour Ireland First Class. We had a fabulous experience and were impressed with the attention we received from start to finish. Finding our starting location was a breeze and we were escorted from destination to destination with friendly and knowledgable guides. We were on the tour over New Year’s Eve and it was nice to have someone get us to our tour destinations during a time of year when some places are closed. We saw some amazing sights- got lucky and had mostly fabulous weather- and met the most wonderful people. Shout out to some of our guides- David, Andrew, Anthony and all the others who looked after us royally. They helped us fit in some nice destinations, took out all the worries about the travel and gave us memories of a lifetime. We will DEFINITELY use them again. Thank you!Written 4 January 2025
- judybD461ZK0 contributionsRailtours Ireland Rocks !!!This trip was amazing; day trip to the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, the Burren and Galway Bay. Words cannot describe the sights !! The cliffs brought me to tears ! The tour guide Brian was one of the best parts of the trip. The knowledge he brought to all of us about the history of Ireland with all the facts was incredible. The driver of our coach, Aiden, was an expert in his class ..the roads leading to these remote places are windy and beautiful and he made it so enjoyable ! We also cannot forget our lunch at Joseph McHugh (near the cliffs) outstanding !!! Thank you for one of the most memorable trips of our lives. Definitely recommend this company and this tour and we will definitely be back for more!!Written 30 December 2024
- W6434GPchrism0 contributionsSolo in IrelandRailtours appears to operate on a different model than other tour companies. They seem more tour agents, setting up accomodations and tours with local companies thus spreading your Euro around more efficiently. Also unlike other tours, you may not be with the same people your entire trip; as if there's ala carte options providing a more tailored experience. They do a good job of having their Yellow Jacket escorts meet you and ensure you get to where you're going and to the guide who'll show you around. I set out to enjoy eight days seven nights discovering Ireland. However a storm changed my travel to and from Dublin from London; which was slated to be a train and ferry ride. Railtours was proactive the day before my trip, letting me know that I would need to arrange a flight and refunding me the portion that was cancelled without me even requesting. Arriving Dublin on the day slated and to the Ashling Hotel (4*) near Heuston Station and was printed a voucher for a 48 hour Hop-on-off bus tour the following day. Then off via train to Cork to check out the last anchoring site of the Titanic and other sites before stopping in Killarney and the Great Southern Hotel (5*). Followed by a tour of the Ring of Kerry and a second night at Great Southern. Then it was off to the Galaway region to discover Aran Island and Connemara while staying at Galmont Hotel & Spa (4*). Returning to Dublin and the Ashling before traveling to Belfast to take a tour to Giants Causeway. My final tour day I chose to explore Dublin on foot. The intent was to travel back to London via Ferry and train; but the ferry was cancelled and I had to fly back on my final travel day. I was again refunded the unused ticket portion; which mother nature prevented. The trip at times felt a little fast paced due to some early wakeup and meet times to travel to the next destination. However, I did get to see quite a bit of the Emerald Isle. Recommend for people who aren't sure what they want to see. If you want more time in a location, you might check with Railtours about a more custom tour. Special shout out to the Yellow Jackets Gerry, John, Andrew, and to those whom I communicated with Suzanne and Carina.Written 17 December 2024
- U9347XAthomasn0 contributionsPeter, the Great! Our tour guide was a lovely gentleman named Peter. He was a font of knowledge and he went well beyond expectations for out tour in terms of the information he imparted to us. We travelled to Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher and Galway. He gauged the interest - (and energy levels!) of our group and worked with the bus driver to make a special stop at the Burren on route to Galway. His descriptions and anecdotes about the sites we visited and his general knowledge concerning Irish history were (and remain) memorable to us.Written 7 December 2024
- starlessfurball0 contributionsWish we got to see more, but shout out to Paddy! We met Paddy at the Heuston train station in the wee hours of the morning. He gave us an itinerary and two return rail tickets. We then walked to the train. It was standard seating, but a trolley with sandwiches, danishes, and drinks came around. Everything we ordered was great. The first leg is long - probably close to three hours. You’ll want to bring a charger or something to do. We then switched at Mallow to go to Killarney. Unfortunately, our rail had a terrible accident and we were delayed three hours. Paddy was constantly giving us updates and trying to make it work, but as the delays got longer, it just wasn’t. It’s November and it gets dark early. They promised to give a full refund. Anyways, when we finally got off the train in Killarney, Paddy found out when the next train would be, led us to restaurants in Killarney. Later, when the next train arrived, he never left our side and guided us back to Dublin. It wasn’t the tour’s fault, but it was so kind of him to not just abandon us when the tour was cancelled. These things happen and it was out of the control. Wish we got to finish the tour though. Next time!Written 26 November 2024
- victoriarG9653QZ0 contributionsTop notch tour! Thanks for the amazing history lessons and beautiful memories! What an amazing day!! Starting from the first train ride John Todd was absolutely wonderful. He told stories and gave us history lessons all along the way. We learned loads about this beautiful country with the ease and comfort of our own private guide. John was super helpful with taking our photo at each location. Thanks for capturing our memories!! This tour (and our guide) were top notch!!Written 22 November 2024
- M2398FCtonyj0 contributionsTook Mom to IrelandWe had done Ireland before without a guided tour and having a guided tour was so much better. We wanted our mother (in-law) to have a magical trip. John T was a very entertaining and informative guide. He kept us on a leisurely pace allowing us time to take plenty of photos while taking some group photos for us as well. John is very pleasant and kind, we would certainly take another tour with him.Written 22 November 2024
- mohandoze0 contributionsSlow down pleaseThe tour consists of a train ride to Killarney and a bus tour around the Ring of Kerry. Our first guide John T escorted us on the train where he gave a comprehensive overview of what to expect in Kerry. He also enhanced our experience with anecdotes of Irish culture and local history. The bus tour with another guide ended an hour earlier than we expected as we spent little time at most viewpoints. The bus driver sped to each destination making photos out the window difficult. On past tours the driver would often slow when we passed significant points so the guide could narrate while we absorbed the view and took photos.Written 10 November 2024
- GoPlaces2012650 contributionsLovely day with lovely views! What an amazing trip. This was an excellent way to see Ireland. It’s hard to say what was better… the train ride, the castle, the cliffs… it was a great day. Norman was funny and full of knowledge and Michael did an excellent job driving. Side note… people need to remember to tip your guides!Written 6 November 2024
- landshark720 contributionsThe Good and the Bad….Ring of KerryMixed review…John was our Yellow Jacket for the day. Gave us incredible insight and history on the areas we were to visit. Upon arrival back at the station he walked with us and shared a great experience at the church. One of the best (with Paddy, Jerry, and Joe). 5 stars. Now for the actual tour…we felt extremely rushed. Liked herded cattle. Our photo stops were extremely brief. Our guide and driver had little personality and acted like they did not want to be there with us. Many passengers made comments that they feared being left behind. I did as well. Our driver exceeded the speed zones and nearly put us in an accident. Did not feel safe at times. We arrived at approximately 16:00. We were not scheduled to be back until 17:10. We were shorted over an hour of our tour we spent good money for. The high points were the National Park and lunch.Written 5 November 2024
- Emily P0 contributionsThe Coach Rollercoaster RideReally liked our rail escort John. He was really friendly and helpful with navigating the stations. The history lessons on the train were insightful and we loved the map he gave us at the end. But Norman and Mike… Mike was driving the coach like he was mad at us. Flying down the roads at what seemed to be too fast of speeds for the tiny winding roads. We almost got into two accidents (totally would’ve been his fault) and he was definitely not afraid of his horn or using the brakes. It was supposed to be a nice scenic drive and even with seat belts on, he was throwing us all around. Norman mumbled half of what he said and not sure if it was his fault or Mike’s but by the time he said what to look at and what side of the bus, we were already too far past it to actually see it! Most of the photo stops we got maybe five minutes and on other tours we got 10-15 minutes. And Norman was sure to start herding us back on as soon as the last passenger was off! Again, supposed to be a scenic drive and we couldn’t even stand long enough to really take in the view. We got back into Killarney right before 4 and John was absolutely shocked to see our group on the sidewalk, the coach already a distant dot on the horizon. We should’ve gotten back in right after 5 and it’s disappointing that we got cheated out of an hour plus of time that we could’ve spent actually taking in the beautiful scenery that the area is known for. Again, loved John Todd but Mike and Norman were not it! We stopped in Sneem I think and even the owners of the shop we were at knew of how bad they are. That’s pretty bad if you have a reputation with people that don’t even use your service.Written 5 November 2024
- jeffreym3710 contributionsUnderwhelmed but it was okIt wasn't clear about departure time from Dublin, but we made the train, barely. Nice train ride. Blarney Castle was pretty, but didn't want to wait an hour to kiss anything. Walked around the gardens. You only pass through Cork in a bus, so you don't see much of the city. We were delayed with traffic, so we never got to see Cobh Cathedral on the inside. The museum in Cobh was ok and more about the Titanic and Lusitania.Written 3 November 2024
- Jet446138109380 contributionsWonderful Trip to the CountrysideLoved this tour. We were 4 of us from India and got to experience the Irish countryside. The tour was well organised and without any major delays..the guides were knowledgeable and friendly. They made it a point to talk and keep everyone engaged. Special mention to our guide whose name I think is John who was very funny ( John if you are reading this - it's summer time in Dublin during the Jazz festival ;) )Written 31 October 2024
- amesl970 contributionsAn easy way to get a taste of Northern Ireland.Everything that was listed, we got to see. The tour highlight was the Giant's Causeway. I was disappointed by the Dark Hedges. Our guide Quiggs was definitely the best part of the trip with his historical knowledge and humor.Written 14 October 2024

Our tour with John Todd to Cork, Blarney Castle, and Cobh was an absolute delight from start to finish. John’s expertise and passion for the region shone through, enriching every moment of our adventure.
From the moment we boarded the comfortable train, John’s warm welcome and engaging commentary set the tone for the day. His deep knowledge of the area’s history, culture, and hidden gems added depth to our experience, making each stop more meaningful.
At Cork, we wandered through charming English market. The visit to Blarney Castle was a highlight, where John regaled us with fascinating tales of the castle’s storied past and ensured we didn’t miss the chance to kiss the famous Blarney Stone.
Cobh’s picturesque harbor captivated us, and John’s insights into its maritime heritage and poignant history left a lasting impression. We loved the Cobh heritage centre where we discovered more about the Irish famine and the Titanic.
Throughout the tour, John’s professionalism, humor, and genuine care for his guests were evident. He went above and beyond to ensure everyone felt welcomed and included, creating a sense of camaraderie among fellow travelers.
Overall, our day with John Todd was nothing short of exceptional. His passion for his homeland, coupled with his expertise as a guide, made our journey through Cork, Blarney Castle, and Cobh truly unforgettable. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough – it’s a must-do for anyone looking to explore the beauty and history of Ireland with a knowledgeable and personable guide like John.

Andrew was a wonderful guide… very friendly, professional and informative! Cobb, Cork, the Blarney Castle and kissing the Blarney Stone were all fun and enjoyable… weather was typical drizzly and chilly but still fun… an extra perk was Dennis the “ pipes” player… loved the excursion and the trip. Well organized!

As we had never been to Ireland, this tour from our ship docked in Cobh fit our needs very well. We had a private railcar just for our group, which quickly took us from Cobh to Cork, where we transferred to a large bus. We then proceeded to Blarney Castle, where we spent several hours walking the gardens. The castle itself is empty and the line to kiss the stone was 90 minutes. After souvenir shopping and a quick lunch at Woolen Mills, we were off through Cork to our final stop at St. Colman's Cathedral. Andrew, our guide, did an outstanding job with his driver optimizing our experience. Andrew was not only very knowledgeable and personable but very cognizant of the time, as our ship was leaving in the afternoon. We will definitely use Railtours again when visiting Ireland.

After a crazy time taking the train from Cork (where we were staying) to Cobh to meet up with the group, just so we could take the train back to Cork to begin our tour, we actually had a great time. I cannot say enough about Andrew, our guide. He was the nicest guy ever, and he made sure that after our rough start, we had a wonderful tour day. He was very knowledgeable, informative, and was so kind and helpful. I learned really interesting information about Cork that I would not have known without the tour. The Blarney Castle was so much fun, and the grounds are beautiful. I really wish we had had more time there, but we were on a timeline to get most people back to their cruise ship. At the end, Cobh was awesome, and we decided to stay a while because it was beautiful.

We booked the Railtours Ireland day tour from Dublin to Cork, Cobh and the Blarney Stone in late November. Houston Station was easy to find and serviced by the LUAS trams – and it is not hard to find the tour guides in their bright yellow jackets, inside the station building, but before you get through to the platforms. Our guide for the day was Billy, an older gentleman who led us to the train, pointed out the reserved seating for tour members and then pretty much left us to our own devices while he sat and chatted with another tour guide. Much of the train journey was in darkness, which was somewhat disappointing as we were unable to see much of the countryside, but obviously an element that is outside the control of the tour operator.
We travelled by train to Cork, then transferred to a large coach and were driven to the town of Blarney, where we parked by the Mill stores and were led by Billy towards the castle and given free time to tour the grounds, castle, etc. It was raining on arrival and not great weather, so we did not spend a lot of time in the grounds, although I imagine there would be a lot to see on a fine day. We climbed the steps through the interior of the castle, which has some pretty amazing views from it, and then lined up to kiss the stone. There is an official photographer to take photographs, but you don’t have to purchase them, obviously. If you are travelling with someone else, hand them your camera, and have them take one photo of you as you sit down in front of the stone, and then get them to stand right up close and take a photo looking down at you kissing the stone. That way, with two photos, people will be able to tell the second is of you by the clothes you are wearing – otherwise all they can see is a headless torso hanging upside down.
We made our way out of the rain to the pub/tearoom near the mill stores for sandwiches and fries followed by wicked scones, jam and cream. We had around 1.5 hours in Blarney, then back onto the bus and a drive through the town of Cork (where we just watched the scenery passing by, without really knowing what we were seeing) and down to Cobh. We stopped in the street to take some photos of memorials, J. F. Kennedy park, the White Star Lines offices, etc and then moved on to the visitor’s centre there, which is really interesting with exhibits from the Titanic, a couple of movies to watch, many news articles to read, etc – but we found that the time we were there was so brief and we were unable to spend time watching all footage, before it was time to rush off to catch the train from Cobh back to Cork and then another to Dublin.
Billy once again retired to his own seat and left us all to our own devices. We arrived back in Dublin around 8.20 pm. I was somewhat disappointed with the tour and felt that we could have spent longer in Cobh, perhaps spent a little more time touring Cork and having some of the sights pointed out to us – and I think it may have been enjoyable if our guide had been a little more personable and actually chatted to the group and interacted more with us. If I had the time again I would spend a few days away from Dublin, staying in Cork, and take small trips from there.

My husband and I went on the 4-day Grand Atlantic Tour, which is the 3-day Blarney Castle/Ring of Kerry/Galway/Cliffs of Moher tour, plus an additional day for Connemara. For the first 3 days, we were accompanied by a tour guide named Jonathan. He was incredible. He is a wonderful historian, orator and storyteller. He was joyful, enthusiastic and entertaining, but when the occasion merited it, he was also serious and sometimes downright solemn. He really helped us understand and appreciate so much about Irish history and Irish people.
We stayed at the Ashling Hotel the night before our tour began. It is a lovely hotel, across the street from the Heuston train station, and I highly recommend it. We met our group and our guide at the Heuston train station at 6:45 the next morning. From that moment on, we were totally pampered. Jonathan showed us where to stow our luggage, and led us to where he had reserved seats for us on the train. During the ride to Cork, Jonathan sat down with each couple and mapped out the plan for the upcoming days. Once in Cork, we went to Blarney Castle (awesome) and had time for lunch and shopping. From there we took a coach to Cobh, where we visited a stunning cathedral and the very interesting Cobh Heritage Museum. The coach whisked us off to Killarney, where we checked into the really nice International Hotel. That night, we all dined at a restaurant that Jonathan suggested (the Porterhouse) and had a wonderful meal. After dinner, my husband and I went to a pub that Jonathan recommended (Sheehan's), and heard some wonderful traditional Irish music being played.
The next morning, we had a lovely breakfast at the International, then we hopped on the coach for the Ring Of Kerry. What an amazing day! We visited the Kerry Bog Village to see how people lived in the 1800's and to have the best Irish Coffee in Ireland. (Coffee, whiskey, brown sugar, and fresh cream--very habit-firming!) We stopped a few times to takes pictures of the amazing beauty all around us. We also stopped for lunch (but I forgot where, sorry.) Jonathan told us tons of information about the bog and Irish history. He even recited poetry to us. Like I said, he is incredible. We hiked to the Torc Waterfall, inside Killarney National Park, which was very beautiful. then we were back in Killarney for dinner. This time, many of us went together to a new restaurant, Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder (also known as Irish Whiskey Experience) which was super great. I had a roasted vegetable medley and a "Bog Warrior" cocktail. We talked and talked and really enjoyed everyone's company.
The third day, we left Killarney and headed to Galway. Enroute, we stopped at Bunratty Castle, learned about Fairy Trees, and walked along the jaw-dropping Cliffs of Moher. We also stopped in The Burren to see a totally different, and unexpected landscape. We arrived in Galway and said farewell to Jonathan and the other people who had traveled with us. That night, we stayed at the disappointing Harbor Inn in Galway. Most everyone else jumped on the train to return to Dublin.
If I were to do it all over again, I would stop here, after having experienced the perfect 3-day tour of western Ireland. However, we had already booked the 4-day tour, which included a 1-day trip to Connemara.
The Connemara day was outsourced to Lally Tours. Our guide was Michael, who served as both guide and bus driver. The day's destination was Kylemore Abbey, which is lovely. Michael was informative and demonstrated his quick wit on several occasions. Along the way we learned about how cockles/oysters are fished and stopped for a few photos of sheep. My husband thought the day was terrific, but, like I said before, I would have rather used the day in some other fashion (maybe go to Waterford and see crystal being made?)
All in all, our tour with Railtours Ireland made our entire trip to Ireland meaningful and worthwhile. I recommend that anyone visiting Ireland take the 3-day tour from Dublin to Blarney Castle-Killarney-Ring of Kerry-Galway-Cliffs of Moher.

Hi There,
Thank you for your wonderful review.
I am delighted to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your tour with us. Jonathan is an exceptional host and always proves to be very popular among our customers and i have no doubt that this was the case during your tour also.
From time to time, especially during off peak season, we may have to outsource the Connemara portion of the tour, however i am sure our colleagues in Lally tours provided a delightful tour also.
Thanks again for your review which really is a delight to read. We look forward to welcoming you on tour with us again in the future.
Many thanks,
Fiona.

My two kids and I took our first three bus tours in Ireland, never having done such a thing before, so some of this review will reflect my newbie-ish impressions of the bus part of this (very long) day of travel. The other bus tours we've done were Viator's Galway-based day trip to Cliffs of Moher (and a slew of other stops around Galway), and Paddywagon's Hop on Hop Off tour of Blarney Castle & Cobh, departing from Cork.
I chose this Railtours Ireland First Class because I thought it would be very special. I envisioned a smallish, high end bus with fewer people than the typical gigantic bus, first class train car like ones I've been on in the states, and an elegant crowd.
So yeah, no. Nope, this is not a luxury trip. Other than the very pleasant gentleman who escorted the group from Dublin that day, there were few if any reasons to call this a first class trip.
We met our escort at Connelly station right where we were told he would be, and he handed us our tickets. The others in our group were typical loud, large Americans, and I instantly regretted that we'd be traveling together on a train car. When the train arrived and everyone was accounted for, our escort (unfortunately I have forgotten his name!) directed us to the first car full of coveted 'first class' tables. My experience is most trains in Ireland do not reserve these seats, but if you happen to be at the originating station early enough you can easily enough find a seat around a table with a regular ticket. There is nothing about these seats that is different than other seats, they just have a table. No one come to take your lunch order. If you want to eat or drink, you can use the trolly service just like everyone else (think pre-made sandwiches and crisps on a cart) OR you can walk to the cafe car, which we never bothered to check out on any of our other Irish Rail journeys.
So the first class ticket on the train wasn't actually first class in my experience, but our pleasant escort was something special. I imagine this service would be ideal for those totally unaccustomed to train travel, or who want a guide for the entire day.
At Belfast's central station we followed our guide to the bus. The bus was already about 1/3 full, and if I remember correctly, this was the bus that reeked of toilet chemicals. These tour busses are all the large style busses with wide windows (where you hope to luck out and have an unobstructed view) and a tiny bathroom down in the stairwell in the middle of the bus. All the seats have seat belts and it's apparently the law that everyone has to wear them. So we loaded onto the bus and got some decent seats near some folks who'd just been picked up at a ferry terminal. Then they told us they had to pick up more people. That's when I realized it was only the rail part of the day that was anything special.
Once the bus was full, the driver told us about the day's itinerary and we headed on our way up the coast toward Giant's Causeway. There were to be several stops to break up the travel and allow photo opportunities. Most of these stops were 15 minutes or under, which was not enough time to even really look at a place, let alone walk far enough in to get a photograph worth keeping, not when traveling with a 5-year-old. Three times we didn't dare risk getting off the bus because it was possible we'd be late getting back to the bus, which the driver repeatedly warned would result in being left behind. Sure enough, a family behind us was left at Carrik-a-Rede Bridge in the pouring rain when they failed to get back in time at that also too-short stop. The driver went back for them while we were at our next stop, which was a maybe 30-minute lunch break around 130pm. My kids and I had to take our food to go after getting only a few bites in (and half a pint of beer!) because we were served dead last. I have to admit, that put me in a seriously bad mood for a little bit! The nice part was a lovely family from India joined our table and the mother gave my son a bite of her pasta. That reminded me we were all stuck on the same meh tour together!
From 'lunch' we went on to Giant's Causeway, and as if by magic, the rain stopped long enough for us to get some ok-ish photos there. It was very crowded and slippery and it took a solid 45 minutes to get to and from the actual Causeway from the top of the hill via shuttle bus. Side note: the National Trust, which runs Giant's Causeway, charges something like 1.50 Euro per person to go down (less if you are organized enough to have small denomination Pounds with you) and it's twice that to get back up the hill. Bastards! The wait for a return shuttle is twice as long so we had to factor in a 30 minute wait and ride at the end of our ridiculously short visit to the Causeway, lest risk being left in Northern Ireland the night before our departure out of Dublin.
Overall, this was a slightly below average bus tour with a bit of hand-holding at the beginning and end for those who aren't accustomed to train travel. I thought the driver had a decent personality (though he was in a bad mood I heard) and was as impressive as any other tour guides I'd seen in Ireland, had a lot of knowledge and did as good a job as anyone could with our itinerary. I think my favorite part was learning about which villages were Union and which were Nationalist. One town had a giant royal crown in the middle of its rotary, while others flew the flag of Ireland. I found the culture and politics fascinating and I'll definitely be back to take private tours and actually see Belfast and all those castles we missed.
Bottom line:
The Irish Rail system is easy enough to navigate that you probably don't need this tour. If you can get to Ireland, you can figure out the trains there, and you can reserve train tickets online up to three weeks in advance. HOWEVER, I could not find a single other tour outside of this one that met at Belfast Central Station at a time convenient to trains from Dublin. A bus all the way from Dublin would've been too much bus for us. Hopefully this changes soon but if not, my recommendation is to find a Tours By Locals driver who can meet you at the station. A private tour this way is going to be comparable to 3 people taking the First Class Rails trip, I imagine. We did a Tour By Locals tour out of Killarney (we took a train there all by ourselves from Cork) and it was the best part of our entire Ireland trip.

I did 2 day tours last week with this company. The first was to Cliffs of Moher (also including Bunratty Castle, the Burren, and Galway). My guide this day was Peter and he was fantastic- gave us lots of history and info along the way and even recited a poem for us. The second was to Cork, Blarney, and Cobh. My guide for the second tour was Andy and he was also a great guide, again giving lots of history and info along the way, and he sang us an Irish song! Both guides also came around on the train at the beginning of the day to make sure we had maps and itineraries, and answered any questions. Both did a good job of keeping everyone on time. The bus drivers for both tours were also very nice.
On the day of the second tour the train was delayed about 40 minutes due to a medical emergency on the train. The tour guides all made an exceptional effort to make sure that everyone made it to their designated tours despite the delay. They really go out of their way to make sure everyone has a nice trip.
If I had to pick just one tour, I would pick the Cliffs of Moher tour because I felt I got to see more for the money it cost, but I did enjoy both! If I'm able to go back to Ireland again someday I would definitely do more tours with these folks!

First, we took the Cork/Blarney Castle Tour: This is just not a good tour. The pace is too slow. We did not even get out of the coach in Cork, so I don't have a single picture from there. Blarney was super cool and fun, and I highly recommend, but the tour spends too long here. Cobh was downright boring unless you like to just read a bunch of stuff on the walls museum-style. You spend HOURS trapped on a train/coach, so you spend most of the day traveling rather than experiencing. We went in Jan., so it was dark on the way there and back, making the train ride a giant waste of time (you'll get there faster by direct coach, as the train is not a direct route). The guide was fairly good, but stuck to historical facts, making it feel more like a history lesson than a fun outing. Railtours Ireland was difficult to deal with and refused to let us out of/refund us for our tour scheduled for the following day when this one went so poorly (and there was SNOW on the forecast). My guess is that they didn't want to lose out on our money, since this is the slow season for them. The value was also not there. A coach tour seeing the identical landmarks costs half of this price. Total ripoff. Overall not a pleasant experience.
The Second Tour we took was Limerick, Cliffs, Burren, Galway Bay: This tour probably would have been more enjoyable if it wasn't snowing/sleeting with a wind-chill below zero. Again, Railtours knew the weather would be this way, but refused to refund us/let us out of the tour. This tour was a little more fast-paced and a bit more enjoyable, but you still spend a REALLY long time on a train/in a coach. Again, there are identical tours with other companies that don't use the rail. They are shorter (in travel time) and about $100 pp cheaper. The guide for this tour was much more enjoyable and spent time providing not only historical facts, but also fun/and interesting information and legend. LUNCH IS NOT INCLUDED. The tour information leads you to believe it is, but it is not- you pay additionally.

We planned our week trip to visit Ireland using Railtours Ireland to cover two full days of tours. We set our base at Dublin near the train station for convenience. The trips covered in detail Cork, Blarney Castle and Queenstown ( Cobh) and then Cliffs of Moher , Burren & Galway Bay the 2nd day. Wow! what a tour including on time service, great narrations by Dave Gallagher during the trips. They added comfort,& security and details of all sights. Thanks to Railtours Ireland for such a great time. What a great way to travel anywhere in Ireland. Period.

Our boat docks at 9:00 AM, and we probably need to be back on board by 4:30 PM as the ship sails at 5:30 PM. Will we have enough time?
Written 7 May 2019
Yes, you will have plenty of time - the railway station is directly off the quayside. You walk off the ship - and on to the train. we either use the 0930 and or the 1000 departure, and either way we return to Cobh and the ship by 1530.We include admission to the Cobh Heritage Centre which tells the story of Famine, Emigration, RMS Titanic, and RMS Lusitania - this is located adjacent to the Quayside so you will also have time to experience this and just walk back on the Ship! Enjoy!

We will be arriving in Cobh at 9:00am on the Crown princess on 6/20/19. what happens if there is a delay of them letting us off of the ship?
Written 27 April 2019
The train station is right next to the port so there will be no problem. We booked through Viator and there was someone at the train station to escort us to Blarney where we met up with other people on the bus to Blarney Castle.

I am trying to book this tour on September 14th, but the only date that is highlighted is Sept 6th.

What time does this trip return. We dock at 9;00am and need to be back by 4:30AM

You'll have plenty of time - we get back to Cobh and the ship at 1530 (3.30pm) - and you'll still have time to visit the wonderful Cobh Heritage centre (admission included) and just walk back onto the ship 30 yards away!

How much walking, stairs - for someone who has physical limitations but not in a wheelchair?

Blarney Castle is a genuine 15th Century castle and requires you to climb a narrow stone spiral staircase (just like the olden days!) but almost everyone can manage it - to kiss the famous Blarney Stone, which bestows the gift of eternal eloquence on all who do!!
