Overview
Peru’s coastline is teeming with native marine life, both above and below the waves. Enjoy an up-close encounter with some of the sea’s boldest inhabitants—wild sea lions—on this tour from Lima. Following an optional hotel pickup, zoom across the water by speedboat with your guide, then jump in to swim among sea lions in their natural habitat. What to Expect
Head to the marina club in the morning, or upgrade your tour to include a handy hotel pickup from the Miraflores district. Board your speedboat and zip out toward Palomino Island and the Guanera Islands (Islas Guaneras) nature reserve.
Pass San Lorenzo Island as your guide sheds light on the area’s rich pre-Columbian history. Spot fishing boats bobbing on the water, and keep watch for native bird colonies and Humboldt penguins.
On arrival at Palomino Island—home to a large colony of sea lions—don your neoprene wetsuit and jump into the rolling waves. Splash among the wild sea lions, and enjoy an up-close experience with some of South America’s finest swimmers. With no natural predators to worry about, the sea lions can be surprisingly friendly and bold.
After your memorable swim, snack while enjoying sweeping views over soaring cliffs and hidden islets en route back to the marina club.
