Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- brandonmB7062GM0 contributionsGreat tour in Oslo.Lars was a great tour guide - very friendly, well informed, and tailored our experience to our group. Would highly recommend him to anyone traveling to Oslo.Written 1 November 2024
- Citizen-Sev0 contributionsInteresting, Fun and Enjoyable.Did a Viking Biking tour with the lovely and fantastic Patrick who not only was a wealth of knowledge and interesting facts but delivery it with a dry wry wit and made for a fun day out. I did this with my 10 year old son and we both got a lot out of it and it was one of his highlights.Written 31 October 2024
- LizzyDizzy_110 contributionsGreat way to see the cityFabulous three hour tour of the city where we visited many key highlights and received plenty of instructions and help. Kat was an excellent knowledgeable tour guide with good English speaking skills considering she is from the Netherlands and lives in Norway too! We received good instructions on how to use the bikes and road laws. As we were from the UK driving on the right is different as well as the principle of not using your bells to be courteous to pedestrians! We had plenty of time to see all the places with an allowance to stop for a while at various spots including Akershus Castle and Fortress and Vigeland Park. We were also given time and consideration to purchase drinks and rest stops. To top it all we saw a beautiful sunset at the end of our tour. Would thoroughly recommend!Written 29 October 2024
- Parents_of_3Boyz0 contributionsDefinitely Recommend!VIKING BIKING!!! my husband booked a tour for ourselves and our 15 year old son. We only had 36 hours in Oslo- and this was the perfect way to see some of the major attractions. Our guide was fantastic! she was very kind and patient- and knowledgeable. She gave us time to do a bit of touring on our own. it was marathon day in Oslo- and the city was hopping... so our tour was slightly modified as we made our way around the city. not a big deal. I would definitely do this again if I have an opportunity!Written 21 October 2024

- NorthStar318064771250 contributionsFun bike tourThis 3 hour bike tour made my day, it opened up new parts of Oslo I would have struggled to walk or bus it to. Niamh led our tour and made it a wonderful and fun time. You don't have to be super fit for this tour, we didn't cycle fast, as long as you have average bike skills, that's good enough.Written 10 October 2024
- Melissa B0 contributionsBiking tour of Oslo in the rain!We had a lovely tour of Oslo by Viking biking and hiking company. Our guide was a woman named, Neve. She was extremely knowledgeable about Oslo. She took us to many beautiful locations. I had no idea the city had so much history and beauty. It is also a very bike friendly city with wide bike lanes and little interaction with cars. And we did all this on a rainy day! It’s still an excellent trip even if the weather isn’t perfect. I highly recommend this company and the city bike tour of Oslo.Written 8 October 2024

- alans77770 contributionsgreat experience in oslothe 3 hour tour was a great way to see the city and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided history and information about the city and sights. the actual biking is broken up by frequent sightseeing stops for it is not at all physically taxing- just pleasurable. thank you Shaf for a great ride and wonderful experience!Written 17 September 2024
- Justin S0 contributionsA fun gallivant through Oslo! This was a fun and insightful tour of the city. We saw plenty of different neighborhoods, parks, museums and other attractions in the three hour tour. I estimate we covered 10-15 miles but it was mostly pretty easy riding with lots of stops. The only “hard” section is riding up the minor hill to the top of the royal palace. Doesn’t take long and isn’t what any novice biker would call steep, but does get the heart rate up for a short bit. Josh was a wonderful guide with plenty of interesting info and stories. We covered about ten stops total. Bikes were adequate, but can be a bit bumpy on the cobblestone sections. Otherwise we were on bike paths, sidewalks and streets. Josh guided us the whole way.Written 17 September 2024

Absolute must! Josh and Chris were knowledgeable, witty, accommodating, friendly, etc etc. Fortunate to have excellent weather and awesome company from all over for memorable moments! Didn't disappoint on recommendation to Fenaknoken afterwards for fish cake, smoked salmon, bread, cheese, crackers, drinks, the works! Erik was very friendly, dry humor, attentive, hospitable and entertaining with local stories. Awesome moments to remember.

This was the first tour we did in Norway and it set a high standard. Our guide Christian was very knowledgeable and friendly. He had great facts about each area we toured. The walking was not too strenous, and the views were amazing. The only downsides were that we went on a Monday, so the Cafe was closed and it was a little too chilly for swimming.

Thank you for your detailed review and for uploading some fantastic photos -- for many, the dramatic clouds actually enhance the experience! For future visitors, while the Café on the island of Hovedøya is closed on Mondays, the small convenience store on Lindøya is open everyday and sells a good selection of picnic items (including Norway's famous brown cheese - 'Brunost'). I will pass your kind words on to Christian, which I am sure he will appreciate. Thanks again for coming on our wonderful Island Hopping tour. Best wishes, Jon.

John was an excellent guide with great information on the area and very engaging stories at every location. A comfortable tour with a moderate amount of walking and slight hills in each location. A great way to learn more about the area and see parts of Oslo that you would not see on a normal city tour.

Hello and thank you for this great review from one of my Island Hopping tours! I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed my stories; my repertoire of tall tales seems to grow with every visit – yet there will always be more to discover as the islands are so full of history and culture. Simply put, they are awesome! From all of us here, we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Oslo.

Fun, interesting day with great guides. Daniel and Alicia make an awesome duo, very knowledgeable and fun to be with. They bonded the group and ‘turned on the weather’ 😀. We loved the nature walks around the three islands and would certainly recommend to others. Thank you team.

Hi Marian! Thank you for taking the time to leave this stunning review. Alicia and Daniel will be thrilled to hear that you enjoyed one of their tours and especially their efforts to bring about the sunshine! The islands here in the Oslofjord are a true marvel: stunningly beautiful and full of fantastic history and culture. Visiting them on one of our tours is a great way to escape the city but also to make some new friends along the way. From all of us here at Viking Biking and Hiking, we hope that you enjoy the rest of your time in Norway. Best wishes, Jon.

It is a must do in Oslo. The views from the ferry and the islands are amazing, Our guide, Josh, showed us the best places, explained everything and answeared all our questions. There are small shops, bathrooms, faucets to fill empy bottles of Walter, picnic tables. So different, quiet and clean .

Thank you Alina for the great review. We share your enthusiasm for that tour as our guides love taking customers around to the various islands. And Josh, with his master's degree in outdoor life from the Norwegian Sports College, is especially motivated to show the amazing nature just 5 minutes from the city centre. We are so glad you joined!

5/5 experience!
Would highly recommend, Jon and Larisa were so great and so knowledgeable and friendly, they made the tour such a fun experience! Our wee group was great, everyone was so lovely and we all got on so well, honestly enjoyed it all :) It rained a bit but that didn’t ruin it at all, learned so much and explored so much; I would highly recommend this :)
I booked through a different website but since I can’t leave a review on there, I had to come and leave a review here!

Rubbish trip!!
We all met up at the start just fine and then, The guide chatted to us on the boat. So she knew who we were very well as in fact what then happened was there were about 30 of us on the tour and she managed to leave 8 of us behind as everyone else quietly got off one of the islands of which there were numerous! We didn’t know they were piggy backing on a public ferry as this wasn’t explained before we booked the trip. Almost £40 each.
So we were told by someone else on the trip who rang the guide to wait at the next island and we did.
No sign of anyone for ages! She said wait here. And one hour into the three hour trip we learnt nothing, did nothing and was a waste of time!!
I’m flabbergasted it could be organised this poorly that you’d have EIGHT people left behind on a trip and she’d not even notice!!!! We chatted on the ferry at the start of the trip for 15 minutes as well, as I mentioned!!!
Really crap! They NEVER even do a body count to check the group. Worst tour I’ve been on!!

Hi Gavin,
I am really sorry to hear about your experience during our Island Hopping tour. As you can see from our other reviews, this is an unprecedented and one-off situation which has never happened before.
It is clearly explained in the tour description on our website and all platforms that sell our tour that we use the public ferries on this tour, and that the 24-hour transport tickets are included in the tour price, which is a nice added bonus. We also explain at the meeting point when we gather the group before the tour, that the first stop on the tour is called Bleikøya, is stop number 4 and that it is a 22-minute ride on the ferry from the harbour.
I have spoken to both of the guides and confirmed that this information was delivered to the group at the start of the tour before boarding the ferry. That being said, it sounds like there was a miscommunication between the guides about how many people were in their group. When the boat stopped at Bleikøya and the group got off, one of the guides noticed right away that they were missing some people and asked if she could get back on the boat to collect the rest of the group. Unfortunately, the people working on the boat did not allow her to do so. She then called one of the groups that she knew were left on the boat and gave further instructions to meet the group on the next island, as you said.
It is our usual policy to do a head-count before, and during, every tour, and based on the accounts of the events given to me by both guides, this was not followed in this instance. On behalf of Viking Biking & Hiking, I take responsibility for this error and I have already processed a full refund for your booking. The refund should reach your account in 3 to 5 business days.
I sincerely apologise again for your unsatisfactory experience on tour with us, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in our beautiful city of Oslo.
Kind regards,
Viking Biking & Hiking

Great to see the islands around Oslo. Felt we could of seen more without stopping for a coffee and a sit down on an island outcrop, but I’m active and they do have to allow for all ages and abilities. Loved that we went on 3 very different island using the local ferry and we got to keep out tickets which expired 24 hours after we started the tour.

Hi and thank you for your two reviews for our two most popular tours: Oslo Highlights bike tour and Island Hopping nature walk. You are right that we try to accommodate for all ability levels, although I will say that the feedback we get from many customers is that the picnic stop on the small island at the end of the footbridge is a favorite. We appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed your time in Oslo with us.
Best regards,
Curtis

Great way to experience the 3 different islands. Took the guesswork out of making/booking your own ferry connections.
Our guide Jon is a British archeologist just completing his doctorate here in Oslo so he could explain the medieval monastery but he also was knowledgeable about the islands’ volcanic makeup, the history of Oslo, the various islands’ fauna & the Norwegian culture of having access to the huts that dot the islands among other things.
He also was personable and conscientious of us slower walkers.
But he needs to get better jokes. 😂

Is this excursion available at the end of October? I cannot find a contact phone number or email to ask directly.
Written 1 October 2019
Hello, I think they don’t do it during October. After September, only one ferry is still working (whereas during the summer, there are 4 ferries) which makes it hard for the island hopping to be convenient plus it’s rainy most of the time. But you should definitely try to contact them by email just to be sure, check out their website the email address is written at the top of their website (I tried to write it in my answer but I can't post it with the email so...)

We are interested in doing this tour mid-April. Is it recommended for beginning of Spring or too cold?
Written 9 September 2019
We were in Oslo when it was warm. It will be much colder in April but if you wear appropriate clothing it will be ok. The ferry that takes you over to the islands has an enclosed area so you can get away from the wind.

‘What is the minimum age to participate on the tour? I have a nine year old daughter but the checkout options only includes “Youth (12-17)” and nothing else, which would lead me to believe anyone 11 or under is not allowed to go on the tour. Is this true? Thank you.
