Overview
Most visitors to Northern Norway don't get an authentic taste of Sámi culture, but you will on this tour from Tromso that's led by a Sámi reindeer-herder guide. You are introduced to animals, invited into a lavvu (like a tipi), and told stories about the culture of the Sámi, the indigenous people of Northern Europe. Enjoy sledding through the pristine Arctic wilderness, spot the northern lights, and savor a delicious meal inside the lavvu.
Highlights
  • This tour from Tromso is led by a Sámi reindeer-herder
  • Your guide introduces you to Sámi culture
  • A home-cooked meal and hot drinks are included
  • Convenient round-trip transportation from Tromso
What to Expect
Your tour begins with a pickup from Tromso city center. Meet your guide and settle into the vehicle for the journey out of the city. Upon arrival at the destination, don your provided thermal suit and jump aboard a sled for an adventure through the snow. Afterward, spend some time getting to know the reindeer. Under careful supervision from your reindeer-herder guide, you may pet and feed the animals. Next, enter a lavvu, a temporary dwelling used by the Sámi people, and warm up with a traditional stew and hot drinks. Listen as your guide tells you stories about the Sámi, the indigenous people of Northern Europe. Afterward, head outside to (hopefully) spot the northern lights. Relax on your journey back to Tromso, where your tour concludes with drop-off back at the original departure point.

The bus pick up in Tromso city centre was efficient and convenient and took us to the reindeer camp which was 45 minutes drive away. During both the outward and return journeys the driver was using a mobile phone (not hands free) and at times he had no hands on the wheel while

Tromso Lapland offers Reindeer Sledding both during the day and at night. I'm so glad we chose to go at night because we ended up having the most amazing ride, looking up at the Northern Lights! Our guide was Johnny - an authentic Sami. He met our group at the Radisson Blu

Learned a lot about the sami culture. Tried reindeer stew. Went for reindeer sledding. I enjoyed the sledding even though it went only one round at the same place. Didn’t managed to catch the northern lights while we were reindeer sledding but our guide were SUPER good. He

We booked this tour and only had minimal northern lights activity. Quite frustrating. Understandably the occurrence is unpredictable as it is a weather phenomenon. The staff Ken and Yohan were amazing host as well as the lady that served our reindeer stew. The only reason it's

Interesting and beautiful . Feeding the reindeer was a bit worrying , be careful of the antlers and be firm or your land up on your back. Sleigh ride was OK,very pretty surroundings ,and finished with some reindeer stew in a large yurt with a talk (very funny ,but interesting )
