About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- HĂĽseyin T0 contributionsreindeer experience in snowy weatherIt was an impressive experience where we had a great time with the reindeers. The snowfall made our experience so much more beautiful.Written 13 February 2025
- P9804XIchloew0 contributionsFun and informative, but too longSadly our reindeer sledding was cancelled due to the weather, which is understandable and we’re happy they were willing to refund a portion of the cost. It was nice to meet all the reindeer and hand feed them, the stew was also really tasty around the fire. It was nice to learn more about the culture at the end with a talk. However, overall, the tour was far too long. We spent a lot of time sat around waiting and becoming quite cold. We understand the cost is to help maintain the culture, but we would prefer a slightly shorter tour in future.Written 9 February 2025
- TonkaB40 contributionsNice tourNice to feed the reindeer and learn more about sami. The stew and fish were gorgeous! Unfortunatelly we couldn t sleigh because of the iceWritten 5 February 2025
- nouvh00 contributionsReidier cudlesGreat rendier encounter and feeding. The Sami guide was very nice and the dinner was in a Great traditional atmosphere. We did not go sledding due to the weather, but even so I recommand this tripWritten 4 February 2025
- LOR1860 contributionsEnjoyable experience even though sledding had to cancelled cancelled (due to weather)An Enjoyable morning. Sadly, the unexpectedly cold weather froze the area, making the surface far too dangerous for the reindeer to pull any of the sleds :-( However, this was made up for us by: being able to feed as many reindeer as we wanted from buckets; a delicious Reindeer stew (plus seconds!); and unlimited hot chocolate drinks with biscuits (or tea/ coffee). Rounded off with fascinating stories of the Sami history and culture.Written 4 February 2025
- l0dinae0 contributionsVery goodVery well organized. Marta and Nina were our guides and they were very friendly !! Loved feeding the reindeers, but the sledding was not very exciting. The Sami culture was really interesting and the soup was delicious. Overall a very nice experienceWritten 30 January 2025
- jameslS7610QZ0 contributionsReindeer adventureWe had a great experience with the Reindeer. You get right up close with them, feed them and can gently touch them. The sledding was slow but part of the fun and experience. All in all it was a good way to spend half the day. Would recommend. Also food was good + unlimited hit chocolate and biscuits. :-)Written 29 January 2025
- BobbyDrake70 contributionsBucket list tripOh I loved this excursion! Seeing and feeding all the reindeers was such a special treat (make sure to wrap up warm). The sledding was short but fun. The people looking after us really were so friendly and made a huge effort to look after you. Plenty of space and fires to warm with coffee, tea, and cookies when you get cold. The food was delicious, and the Sami stories important and educational. One not to miss!Written 29 January 2025

- lisa_sunshinepz0 contributionsMagical Arctic AdventureWe had the most magical experience! The highlight was feeding and sledding with the reindeer, who were incredibly calm and gentle. We also had the privilege of meeting the Sámi people, who were so welcoming and kind. Inside a cozy lavvu tent by the fire, we learned about their rich traditions and culture while sipping hot chocolate to stay warm. Dinner was delicious, with reindeer stew served (vegetarians had the option of tomato soup). To make the evening even more special, the northern lights graced us with their presence—truly unforgettable! The only downside was the disorganized bus pickup before the tour began. It felt chaotic, with too many people crowding around different operators unsure of where to go. However, once on the bus, everything went smoothly. Overall, an amazing experience I’d highly recommend!Written 25 January 2025

- D7147SObrianb0 contributionsTromso Artic Reindeer Hospitality needs ImprovementThe tour was nice but the disorganization prior to the tour impacted our satisfaction. We were never notified that the meeting place for the tour was changed. After searching for the guides in a Blue Coat at the Bankgata and Samuel Arenesens Gate location for 15 minutes, we contacted the tour operator by phone to find out they had changed the meeting place to the Tromso Bus terminal. They claimed they sent an email yesterday but probably it went to a travel agent located in a different country. Because we were now late we had to run to the new location. In the process of doing this one of our group (64 yr old) fell hard to the ground as their feet went out from under them hurting their back. We eventually made it to the terminal and were able to get on the bus. The staff was less than apologetic and actually expressed an arrogant attitude (Edwina?) when I told them 3 of our party would not be going. We did not ask for a refund, but were just informing them in case they wanted to let someone waiting to go if there were any cancellations. There is defiantly a problem with booking this excursion through a travel agent due to poor communication.Written 23 January 2025

The meeting point at the bus terminal was easy to find with cover. The staff were well organized in separating the groups with two activities. The bus ride was very enjoyable with a great view of the ocean. The reindeer farm was unbelievable with about 200 cute reindeers. The staff showed us how to feed a reindeer and we had a great time feeding and taking pictures with the reindeers.
The lunch at the hut was delicious followed by the Sami host sharing his culture and background. The souvenir shop was inside the hut with wooden reindeer and other items to keep our memories alive. The hut had a great fire to keep us warm while enjoying the host's Sami performance and a group sing along afterwards.
We had a super great time and experience. We highly recommend this reindeer and Sami culture tour with Tromso Arctic Reindeer!

The reindeer feeding was nice and the views of the local mountains amazing. You stand in the field with the reindeers and they feed from a bucket that you hold. Lots of picture opportunities with animals you wouldn't normally see close up. You can wander in the field on your own so it allows for photos without lots of people in the background. There is only so long you can stay outside as it gets very cold so lots of people went inside (please note it was minus 7 when I visited)
The Tipi/Shack building was nicely set up with real fires burning, they provided tea. coffee and biscuits free of charge. They then serve reindeer stew which was nice and they offered a vegetarian option.
We then had a Sami person tell us some stories about the Sami culture, it was ok but lacked enthusiasm and excitement. I thought at one point he was just gap filling for time and kept looking for the tour guides. Maybe it was because it was so cold everyone came in from outside quicker, but the element of this tour needs a shot of excitement to keep people engaged.
They were easy to find at the bus station and the coach was very nice with lovely views on the way
I wouldn't recommend for people not good with snow

It's really lovely and maigical with the reindeers, but it was a little chatioc getting food to feed the reindeers. It was a 40-minute bus ride on a comfortable bus, but the toliets were, and I quote festival toilets were available, but it was bloody cold. The staff were friendly and helpful and did their best, but I would recommend this to adults. Not people with small children would find this stressful from my option. The storyteller was factual and gave lots of historical information, but it would of been good to have a christmas story. I give this feedback as information to the tour operator, but I enjoyed the experience and feel it was a little expensive for the what we got

We booked this tour, but we were wrong, because we also wanted the sleigh ride but it was not there - ok, as for our mistake - and we regret it. They welcome you at 1330 in a nice Sámi tent with fire in the middle and hot drinks, and then take you to feed the reindeer for about an hour. At 3pm they serve a plate of reindeer stew, at 4pm they move to another tent around the fire, where the only Sami in the organisation tells of his people and sings. This last part is interesting, just as it is nice to be with reindeer, but not at the figure of 140 euros each. Considering the high prices typical of these places, the tour would be all too well paid for at half the price. It's still a bit of a touristy thing for chickens, but nice, just not at this price.

A Most Displeasing Excursion
I write with great disappointment regarding the so-called Reindeer Visit and Sami Culture Including Lunch tour from Tromsø. One had hoped for an enlightening and dignified cultural experience, yet what transpired was a poorly executed endeavor designed to extract as much coin as possible from unsuspecting tourists. It was, in a word, most unbecoming.
1. Reindeer Encounter: The reindeer themselves were charming creatures, yet their surroundings and the interaction provided were utterly lackluster. It seemed orchestrated solely for fleeting photographs rather than an authentic connection. One could scarcely ignore the underlying feeling that the animals were but props in this profit-driven spectacle.
2. Sami Culture Presentation: What was promised as an immersive cultural insight amounted to little more than a superficial monologue. The presentation lacked depth, sincerity, and the richness one might expect of such an ancient and storied tradition. The experience was as though designed with a timer, hurried and bereft of care.
3. The “Lunch”: The luncheon, if such it can be called, was beyond the pale. To serve guests food that was evidently reheated from tins is not only an affront to culinary expectations but to basic hospitality. For the exorbitant price of this tour, one might expect freshly prepared fare reflective of the Sami people’s esteemed traditions—not a meal one could obtain from the back of a grocer’s cupboard.
4. Facilities: The lavatories provided were appallingly insufficient. Porta-potties, poorly maintained and emitting a most unpleasant odor, do not befit the standards of a paid excursion, particularly one commanding such a princely sum. It is nothing short of shameful to ask paying guests to endure such conditions.
5. Greedy Practices: At every turn, one felt the tour operators’ relentless pursuit of profit. The experience lacked heart, authenticity, or even basic respect for the paying guest. Instead, it was an opportunistic display of avarice, with little thought given to the value of the experience provided.
It grieves me to say that this outing was not befitting of the expectations one has when embarking on a cultural journey. It was an exploitative affair, and one cannot help but feel the operators were more concerned with lining their coffers than offering an enriching experience. One advises potential guests to look elsewhere, for this tour is a most regrettable waste of both time and money.

Really nice tour, well organised and overall a really great experience.
Feeding the reindeers was fun and definitely the highlight of this activity.
The Sami guy was an excellent storyteller and did a really good job at keeping us engaged.
The reindeer stew was delicious.
I’m giving this 4 stars out of 5 simply because there was a lot of waiting around and it’s very overpriced.

We went on a very rainy day (actually we were glad it was not cancelled). Busses were well organized and the reindeer were just so amazing and beautiful to see. As it was cold and rainy we went into the hut and a had a hot drink and cookies. We felt then it was quite a long time (at least for us) until the lunch was served. We went for the vegetarian option (vegetable stew) which was served lukewarm and was not very nice to be honest. I felt this can be done better.
After another (longish) wait the Sami storyteller came on. This was maybe the biggest disappointment. Nice man, but it seemed he didnt really know what to say. He just kept repeating "the reindeer are so so important to us" - which I get obviously. But he didnt explain why, he didnt explain any challenges with climate change, he didnt explain anything about the colorful clothes he was wearing - we really didnt take away anything from what he said. I think he needs a bit of help with his storytelling.

We were excited to see these animals and booked the tour before we left. We were not disappointed.
The journey from Tromsø to the farm took 30 minutes by bus, so it was absolutely reasonable. On the farm we were able to go straight to the free-roaming reindeer to feed them. They are trusting, even though they are wild animals.
The Sami run the camp, and there is a very interesting short information session about the culture, origins and the difficulties of this relatively unknown culture, both in the past and today.
The lunch is a tasty reindeer stew, yes, that's fine, if that doesn't bother you, you can get something else on request.
All in all, a worthwhile trip.

Fabulous trip. Very well organised. The reindeers were fantastic and there was plenty of time to feed them. The food was also delicious. Daniel’s storytelling of the life of a reindeer herdsman was brilliant. It was so entertaining. An excellent afternoon which I thoroughly recommend. Thank you

Certainly a must do experience if you are in Tromso. It is a quick drive from the city and it offers you a brief insight in Sami culture and the way they have been practicing reindeer herding for generations. We had a great host at the site who was very welcoming and amusing. Reindeers were friendly and feeding them for more than an hour didn't feel like a chore, but a fun activity with the benefit for both parties. After the feeding we were served some hot beverages and cookies while waiting for reindeer stew in a cosy cabin. After that we listened to the stories about reindeer herding and Sami people. All in all, a great half day experience. Also the landscape is magnificent which adds to the overall impression.
