- Sue S0 contributionsNight with the reindeer!Feeding the reindeer, eating the traditional Sami stew and listening to our delightful Sami guide was an amazing experience!Written 13 November 2024
- sophie21730 contributionsOverall would recommendThis was a great experience where we learnt lots about reindeer and Sami culture. Both the traditional meal and the Sami cultural background parts of the experience were amazing where we learnt a lot about the Sami experience from a friendly Sami guide. She even demonstrated some of her music to us at the end. I would have loved to have spent even more time on this part and would 100% recommend these portions of the experience. I knocked 1 star off the review because of the reindeer feeding part. We were warned that they could fight for the food amongst themselves, however it was a bit more intense than we were prepared for. They surrounded us all trying to get their noses in the bucket and did jump up on you at times to get the food. Just something to be prepared for going in that it can be quite intense!! Also potentially scary for young children. But overall would still recommend the experience!Written 6 November 2024
- Ashleydrew960 contributionsAn absolute must do!!!!My partner and I booked the Artic Reindeer Experience for our trip to Tromsø and can honestly say it was one of the absolute best decisions. We did the trip at night so can only talk from that perspective but if the day is anything like the night, this trip is unmissable in my opinion. The trip was organised and efficient from the point of booking through to us actually going on the tour and returning. I whole heartedly believe this tour represents such good value and I will explain in further detail. Nina our guide from the city, our bus driver and all the team at the Reindeer camp were amazing. We missed out on the Reindeer sledding due to the weather conditions but the cost of the tour was adjusted for this. The coach you travel on is spacious and you are well informed about the trip and what’s on the itinerary for that evening. You can tell it’s magical on arrival looking out to a vast area with many many reindeer. Before heading out to feed the Reindeer you enter a large cosy hut with a roaring fire - I have seen people leave negative reviews saying you leave said hut with your clothes smelling of smoke…do not let this deter you!!!! Simply sit on the back row with one of the blankets kindly provided. After a short introduction and brief run through of the itinerary you head out to feed the reindeer which is an amazing experience. After spending time outside you will understandably be cold but head into another larger hut with two fires and ample seating and are provided with plenty of hot drinks, cookies before being served your three course meal. (In my case four courses as I was lucky enough to be offered more of the delicious Reindeer Stew) - (For the alternative option, my partner had the tomato soup which was equally as good). This was actually my favourite meal while in Tromso, genuinely when I say it would not be out of place in a restaurant in the town I mean it, it is so nice. We were lucky enough after our meal to catch a clear glimpse of the Northern Lights before heading back into the smaller tent (follow above said advice if your precious about clothes smelling), at this point your immersed in learning about traditional Sami culture which is really really interesting. In summary, your travel there and back, feeding and meeting many many reindeer, having as many hot drinks and cookies as you want, a restaurant standard 3 course meal, and learning about the Reindeer and Sami Culture just represents great value, I actually heard a few people in a local pub talking about how they saw the reindeer on the side of the road but believe me this just isn’t the same. I hope this is an insightful review and if you choose to go you love it as much as me and partner did.Written 4 November 2024
- JordanF0 contributionsFun and InterestingThis was a fun and interesting tour. We spent time out with the reindeer. Feeding them was fun. Then we ate them in the form of reindeer stew! They have a vegeterian option. Finally, we learned about the Sami people in6a thoughtful discussion.Written 4 November 2024
- twostraws0 contributionsUnmissable experience in NorwayAn absolute joy – there are lots of reindeer, all very friendly and well cared for, and you have as much time as you like to spend with them, feed them, and take pictures. The Sámi staff gave a great introductory talk about their culture, and also answered a wide range of questions. Food and drink was also provided, along with easy transport. This was definitely a highlight of our trip, and I hope more visitors take the time to learn about Sámi culture.Written 3 November 2024
- Dougal9110 contributionsReindeer, Aurora, and the Sami People - BrilliantThis was a Bucket List destination for me and on my 60th Birthday we booked this trip. First of all, you are not guaranteed to see the Aurora. Feeding the reindeer was fun, but remember they are wild animals. I did get a couple to eat from my hand, but if they are not interested in your bucket of food, don't chase them. I used less than half my bucket of feed. Others were chasing/following them further into the wood. However, as we were doing this the Aurora appeared, and suddenly the Reindeer didn't matter. The Sami's took us back inside and fed us with an amazing tasting beef stew, hot drinks, and cookie's. Whilst we were eating this, the Sami's told us to go outside as it was a very strong Aurora, and Boy! I will never forget it, clear as day to the naked eye. We returned to finish our meal and had a short talk about the Sami People. A fantastic trip with some cracking photos. Glad I booked this trip.Written 9 October 2024

- rikkilp0 contributionsAmazing experienceWe had an amazing time meeting and feeding the reindeer. We were lucky enough for a large amount of them to come down to the feeding area even though the snow storm was quite heavy. Learning about Sami culture after the feeding was also amazing, so interesting and our guide Daniel was so lovely and funny! Such a great experience, highly recommendWritten 16 April 2024
- L7269WNmarissam0 contributionsThe perfect proposalAMAZING. That’s truly all I can say. I’m just getting around to writing my review. The reindeer farm is beautiful of course but my review goes out to the staff. They truly went above and beyond when my now fiancée reached out to them to propose. They coordinated everything seamlessly and did a great job keeping it a secret (from me). They were able to set us up with an individual sled and private place for us to have the dinner. I couldn’t have imagine anything more perfect until the northern lights came out. Thank you to Marja, Sara, Manon, and Edwina for everything!Written 14 April 2024
- karinra0 contributionssuch a beautiful and happy experiencesuch a beautiful experience! even though it was a big group of people in a big bus, it always felt personal and very chilled. the staff and the Sami people were super friendly and always up for a chat. we could ask all out questions and had really nice conversations with them. we spent quite some time feeding the reindeers and were able to walk around the land as far as we wanted. The traditional reindeer stew for lunch was delicious and the hot chocolate as well. the story telling from the Sami man was so sweet and funny. overall a very beautiful, fun and happy experience. was absolutely worth the money and i would totally recommend it to anyone visiting Tromsø during this time of the year.Written 31 March 2024
- travellight7210 contributionsReindeerReviews are accurate in their description of the days events. Clean bus picks you up on time. Very organized with pleasant staff. Feed the reindeer, take a ride in a reindeer sled with a warm reindeer "blanket", hot chocolate and cookies in a tent with fire anytime you like, Reindeer stew for lunch and a talk from one of the Sami who gave a talk about their culture and would answer any question you have. We had great weather and I can imagine how a different scenario could affect the day. Also website show they were fully booked for our only availability but after I sent an email they accommodated us! Highly recommended.Written 28 March 2024
- jcevet0 contributionsMust see, must do, must experienceA magical sight to see so many reindeer clustered together. A truly unique and absolutely ahh-mazing experience to be in such close contact with the reindeer and to be able to feed them. They are so adorable and cute! Some would even try and get your attention by touching you with their hoof so that you would turn around and feed them. The two lovely Sami ladies were fabulous and they enlightened us with some facts about the Sami culture. Although the sleigh ride had to be canceled due to icy conditions, we had a wonderful time altogether!Written 28 March 2024
- Raquelhess0 contributionsGreat tourGreat experience with the reindeers and Sami people. The company is very organized and the place with the reindeers is amazing.Written 26 March 2024
- ma_gorzataf5840 contributionsInteresting experienceThere is a large terrain with the reindeer where you can walk and feed them from the bucket. The problem with our tour was that at that time the terrain was like a lake of melted snow with reindeer poop floating everywhere. Our shoes soaked and we spent two more hours in the tent, having a meal and listening the story of a Sami lady. We were cold despite the fire and my son got a fever after this trip. We were also smelling like smoke after sitting all this time inside the tent with a fire. The meal did not taste us. The best part of this trip for me were the stories told by the Sami lady. Of course reindeers are interesting as well, but they don’t like cuddles, and they are quite insistent when it comes to food;) But overall it was a good experience ;)Written 26 March 2024
- Tracy F0 contributionsRelaxed evening in a beautiful settingPerfect end to our trip. Came here on our last night. Very peaceful and serene setting. Little sled ride and reindeer feed. The tents with the campfires were cosy and the 3 course dinner was wonderful. Very well organised. The Sami woman sang happy birthday to me and gave me a beautiful gift. Loved hearing their stories and traditions around the campfire.Written 22 March 2024

Tromsø was experiencing uncharacteristically wet and windy weather the day of our tour, so we knew ahead of time that there would be no reindeer sleigh ride. There was no snow, only wet ground. The wind was so strong on the plateau where the Sami camp is located and it was very difficult to walk. Even the reindeer hunkered down away from where we were supposed to interact with them, sheltering from the wind under trees. Eventually they were coaxed to come to where we could feed them, and that was entertaining. You learned quickly to stay clear of their antlers. Once the feeding was ended we went into a big hut, a lavvu, for reindeer stew (or a vegetarian option), hot drinks, and cookies. The vegetarian stew was very tasty. After our lunch one of the Sami tribe members gave an excellent presentation on the Sami lifestyle, culture, and their challenges within Norwegian society.
When we first arrived we felt the tour should have been canceled because of the wind. We still fell that way but we did appreciate the insight into the Sami people.

Dec 2019 • Family
We visited the camp last December (2019) and it was truly an experience to remember. The bus drive from Trømso, even though it’s a bit long, it’s very comfortable and warm. It was an okay distance for my kids (3 and 7 years old).
Arriving there, we were welcomed by the Sami people, everyone was very friendly and nice. We heard stories, sang, fed the reindeers, learned how to throw a lasso, ate a delicious reindeer soup, cookies and hot cocoa. It was a very pleasant day.
Of course, sledding was the high point of the visit. It’s slow and the kids were happy about that. We did the short ride and was quite enough for us, because it was freezing cold that day (feeling like -15C).
The one thing that could be improved is the bathroom. I understand that it’s the middle of nowhere but taking a 3 year old girl to pee there was a challenge... specially by the end of the tour, the bathroom was really very disgusting. That’s why I docked a star there, because the place was completely neglected. If it had been cleaned a bit during the day, I imagine it wouldn’t be so horrible.
Other than that, it was a blast. We will never forget it!

10/10. Would definitely recommend everyone to book this tour!
This included transportation to and from, feeding the reindeer, a sleigh ride, lunch, beverages, fire, and story telling and songs by native Sami woman.
The tour starts off with a drive to the camp. Once at camp we are guided to a warm fire and then proceed to the sleigh rides and reindeer feeding. They allow you unlimited feed for the reindeer. It was amazing! After everyone had their ride they start serving lunch inside the hut by the fire. They offer reindeer or vegetable stews. I chose the meat option and it was extremely tasty. They offered as many bowls as I could eat. I had 2 and a coffee drink. After everyone has had their lunch we were able to learn about the native Sami peoples and also about the local wildlife. Even the kids enjoyed this portion of the tour! I learned so much and we were able to ask questions as well. I also got myself a beautiful pair of earrings from the gift shop made of reindeer antler with a reindeer design burned into it. Again, I highly recommend taking this tour while you’re in Tromso. It is beyond what I expected and a memory I will cherish for the rest of my days!
Thanks to you too Peter! We appreciate you!

We were a little worried on booking this trip and seeing how popular it was that it would be too touristy.
These thoughts were quickly put to rest, with the warm welcome onto the buses and at the Sami village. The site is beautiful and large enough, so that you can spend some quality time, almost as if by yourself, with the wonderful reindeer, whilst also experiencing some of the Sami culture. The cabins with roaring fires and warming food and drink, just adds to the experience.
We would definitely recommend a visit, even if your visit to Tromso was meant to take you more off the beaten track. It is wonderfully run by friendly and professional people that have the best interests of the Sami community and the animals themselves at heart.

We found this tour really informative. We got picked up by coach from outside our Scandic hotel. The coach trip took about 25 minutes and when we arrived we went into a tent for a briefing on what and what not to do.
We had booked a 30 min sledding tour so we went first on that then we got given our buckets to go and feed all the reindeer’s in the fields. We then got to go into another wooden building to have some hot drinks and reindeer stew which was lovely.
We learnt a lot about the Sami culture from one of the girls and then we enjoyed some singing!! The kids loved it.

We visited on my birthday and it was a fabulous way to celebrate.
The pickup and drop off was well organised, and it was less than half an hour on the coach to the reindeer site.
We had a long sledding experience, which was magical and the view across the snow was beautiful. The light that day was fantastic and the photos are stunning.
Feeding the reindeers was fun and the Sami talk and reindeer stew lunch was very enjoyable.

This was so much fun. We were able to feed the reindeer by walking into the herd with a bucket of feed and you could refill the food as many times as you want. We did the full experience which included the sleigh ride which lasted about 20 minutes. Then the wonderful staff served us traditional reindeer stew cooked over a fire and hot chocolate and cookies. We then had 2 Sami women tell us about their culture and share some of their traditions with us as we sat around a warm fire in a traditional Sami tent. This was well worth it

Thank you so much for your kind words about our camp.
We are very happy to have had you as our guest, it was a pleasure for us. We always strive to make sure that each guest is warmly welcomed.
We truly care about our reindeers - the Sami families have been working and living together with them for decades. So it is not just a job for us, it is a way of living; culture and heritage. We try our best to protect it, and at the same time introduce it to people from different parts of the world.
Thank you again for visiting us, and we hope to see you again. Our reindeers cannot wait to meet you again too!

Catch a public bus for the 10am event. We experienced a Sami cultural exchange. We were first taken on a reindeer sleigh for about 30 minutes. The scenery along the way was very beautiful with white snow. Next, we went to feed the reindeer. The reindeer were scrambling to eat the feed. It was very interesting to interact directly with the reindeer. Their movements were very cute☺️. The local Sami people also prepared hot cocoa and chocolate biscuits in the tent (the biscuits are delicious), which are perfect snacks for the cold weather. At noon, we were also given a taste of the local venison stew. I chose the vegetarian stew soup and had a bite of my friend’s stew to experience it 😂. Finally, the local Sami people shared stories about their ethnic group. The atmosphere was very warm, and it was even warmer next to the candles☺️While listening to their Sami songs and hot food, I was very happy and moved.
