- galahad240 contributionsWorthy visit to BratislavaThe tour itinerary followed as advertised. Arriving in the city , a local guide will be with you at most 2 hrs , then the rest will be your own time. Since the catamaran trip back to Vienna is at 6:30pm you have enough time to roam discover tiny street around old town, and picturesque buildings. After sometimes the allocated time by your own is too much , might get bored waiting for the catamaran trip back to vienna . Recommended a day trip to Bratislava.Written 5 November 2024
- F2187NWpeterd0 contributionsTerribleTerrible Travelling about 10 hours to spend 4 hours in a pretty but not remarkable place wandering around makes no sense. The guided tour of the town barely happened and the short boat ride and then bus back to the town was a waste of time. A terrible waste of a day when we could have spent the time better enjoying Vienna.Written 2 November 2024

- DebzG860 contributionsA worthwhile day trip out of ViennaReally enjoyed this day trip. We started off by visiting the small town of Durnstein. Not much to it but we did enjoy trying (& subsequently buying!) some apricot liqueur. We then got the bus to Spitz, where we picked up the boat for a leisurely 90 minute cruise along the Danube. Thoroughly enjoyed this section of the day as we got a couple of drinks & sat on the top deck & enjoyed the views as we sailed along. We then arrived at Melk but we hadn't booked the Abbey tour. This meant we had a good 2 hours to relax and enjoy a nice lunch and also explore the town. We did visit the Abbey & got to see most of the outside as well as the Abbey shop where we purchased some wine! I would definitely recommend this tour if you've got the time when visiting Vienna.Written 30 September 2024
- dale_river0 contributionsA worthwhile day tour from ViennaThe tour was pretty well organized. There was some confusion at the Opera meeting point—it was raining and the bus arrived late. However, once we took our seats, everything went as described. Our multilingual guide, Tomy, gave the commentary in English and Spanish. The visit to Durnstein was brief (use euro coins for the bus stop WC!), but the village itself, though charming and surrounded by vineyards, is quite small. The Danube cruise from Spitz aboard the MS Durnstein was scenic and relaxing. We ate in the floating restaurant, which was affordable and pleasant. Once in Melk, we waited around in the rain for our tour of the magnificent abbey, guided by a nice young woman, who showed us some of the highlights in the museum and library. The abbey restaurant was also a welcoming spot for a break (yummy coffee & pastries). Despite the rain, the entire all-day experience was worth it, and we're glad we took time out of our stay in Vienna to see some of the Austrian countryside.Written 17 September 2024

- F4464MValanp0 contributionsBeautiful day on the DanubeThis is a full day tour involving a 90 minute bus ride each way. First stop is an old town which is cute, but not much to see there other than tourist stores and ice cream shops. Then boarded a boat for a 90 minute boat ride up the Danube. Beautiful scenery and a nice way to spend the day if the weather is nice. But there is only a few seats outside that are shaded, so hard to be on the deck on a hot sunny day. The other two decks are basically enclosed restaurants with service. You can see well through the windows and the air conditioning is good, but would be better if there were more shaded areas with an outside breeze. After the boat ride is the town of Melk, a beautiful old town with an abbey well worth the trip. Plenty of time for lunch at a restaurant in town, but the walk back up to the abbey in time for the tour is quite a climb.Written 6 September 2024
- bscott65150 contributionsVery nice getaway from the city of ViennaA very nice experience overall. The bus trips were nice and informative (by the tour guide), and the boat ride at 90 minutes was the perfect amount of time to spend on the boat. The stop at the Melk Abbey was nice, but I was not very impressed with the tour given by the Abbey tour guide. We are still glad we went, but were a little disappointed in this portion of the trip.Written 30 August 2024
- Tunes790 contributionsFun and Easy way to Explore the ParkOur two young children (and our knees) really appreciated this fun way to explore the grounds of Schönbrunn, from the doors of the palace to the top at Gloriette and back again. It’s an enjoyable hop-on, hop-off ride, with added commentary so you understand what you can see. With Gloriette being so high up, it also takes a lot of the strain out of getting there and admiring the view. It takes in stops for major attractions in the park, and shows you some parts you may never come across otherwise. The price is a little steep - though it is free for the Vienna Pass - but you could ride to a lot of places.Written 21 August 2024

- 137karenm0 contributionsGreat day exploring the countryside and the Danube ValleyThe Day Trip was exactly as described. Our guide Thomas was great in two languages and kept us entertained on the bus. The boat ride was a relaxing way to enjoy this area of Austria. We took the Melk Abbey tour and highly recommend that as well.Written 16 August 2024
- miras2330 contributionsWorth seeing from ViennaThis was a lovely outing from Vienna. Bratislava is an hour away by coach or catamaran. Personally preferred to sail down the Danube river. You have WiFi on catamaran, can have a drink, there’s a good bar on it. Bratislava is a nice, cosy city with interesting history. As for guides it’s hit and miss, depends what you’re interested in. You might be better exploring the city yourselves, taking a city tour with the Oldtimer City Tours on their old looking carriages that take you up to the castle. Check if the Castle is open on your day of visit. Also first Wednesday of the month the entrance is free.Written 8 August 2024

- LECB_review0 contributionsNot wheelchair accessibleDespite being advertised as wheelchair accessible and the transport specifically being advertised as wheelchair accessible, the tool was most definitely NOT wheelchair accessible. Apparently wheelchair accessible means you can walk. Very disappointed as was looking forward to the trip. No refund offered on the day or alternative transportation. Now going for a large apple strudel to cheer myself up.Written 7 July 2024

I normally love these style buses as it’s a great way to see a city whilst also getting about to some of the main sights. This tour didn’t quite live up to others I have done in other cities for the following reasons:
1) Not frequent enough. We had to wait an hour for the next bus on the blue line. It’s called hop on, hop off… having to wait around for this amount of time means it’s not really living up to its name and cuts into precious sight seeing time.
2) The buses stop running around 4/4:30pm. Not great when you have a 24 hour ticket. Not really value for money.
3) The night bus option was at 6/6:30 so if you want to see the city in the dark, this wasn’t an option in spring/summer months.
4) Quite a few people were having trouble with their earphone socket not working so had to share with the person next to them. This was a problem for people on busy buses sitting next to somebody not from their party and a difference in language.
5) One of the buses we got on was incredibly busy to the extent we struggled to get a seat. This also seemed to be the case for other people getting on after us. This might not be such a problem if there were more buses and more regular buses as you could opt to get on the next one.

The tour was very expensive at 35 euros for the day and the main route circled the inner precinct which could have been easily walked. Limited commentary on the history of the city, mainly music. The timetable was completely wrong with the fifteen minutes between services stretching out to over thirty. The staff, once they'd sold you a ticket were apathetic or rude, giving incorrect information or more interested in their phones. As the bus to take us back to the railway station failed to turn up we were forced to pay out additional monies to catch the underground. A complete waste of money. Recommend a six euro public transport pass and a map.

Appalling experience on the blue line; forced to stand for for the first half of the ride, and therefore unable to access the commentary or see any of sights out of the windows, thus rendering the ride not only futile, but excruciating. Add to this a driver who was channelling Michael Schumacher and throwing the passengers around and you have an experience which nearly ruined our Vienna trip. Avoid at all costs.

The stations are not properly highlighted in the city and sometimes very difficult to find - example the Green line bus stops. Each station should be marked and easy to find...it's not like the examples form other big European capitals can't be followed here as well. Actually BigBus stops were more visible...and I think that if they could do it so should you. It was a bad experience that will make me think 1000 times in the future before chosing this service.
The night tour is from 18 to 19 - so it's a evening tour and not a night tour like in other places.

No need to book online - you can only get the right ticket at the information stands in front of the opera anyway. We got on at Schwedenplatz with our booking printouts (the QR code was scanned there). At the State Opera, the ticket inspector came in and snapped at us (and a few others) that it wasn't a valid ticket, she then printed us a "real ticket".
This "real" ticket is valid from the time it is printed out (looks like a receipt), you can get on or off at any stop, the buses run at regular intervals.
It is advisable to book the Schönbrunn Panoramabahn - this trip through the imperial gardens in the middle of beautiful nature is a unique experience. The view from the Gloriette is magnificent (the train stops there for a few minutes). We got off at the Tirolergarten, where there is an entrance to the zoo - no queue in front of the ticket office. From this entrance it goes down through a small forest to the animal enclosures, etc. We left the zoo at the Palmenhaus exit and got back on the Panoramabahn there. We started with the blue line - the entire Ringstrasse and out to the Danube Tower - this loop takes 2 hours without getting off. A good overview and helpful when deciding where to stay on the next loop.

We have traveled all around Europe, and often use busses like this in cities where we don’t know a lot about them. As such, they provide a good service of providing an overview of a city with historical or practical commentary. Clearly, if we knew everywhere we wanted to go, mass transit would be a better and cheaper option. Also, there are very few of these busses we’ve been on where some of the audio ports didn’t work, or some employees viewing customers as eye-roll inducing ignoramuses (it’s not a great job for anyone). But they do provide an appreciated service, and this particular one was pretty much the same as we’ve experienced all over Europe. We did wonder what a tour in the summer might be like, because even in October with the sun shining through the all the glass on the top, the upper level became positively roasting, with no air conditioning and no way to open windows. My guess would be to try to find an open air bus in the summer and wear a hat and sunglasses.

Bought a ticket online and had some difficulties finding out where to get the bus for the first time. Nice safe of the sightseeing plans considering the cold weather but definitely not good if you wanna take some photos as the windows are really dirty. I left the green line for my final trip and not only I waited for it for a while as it’s not as often as the rest line but the trip was not complete. They skipped half the stops and just left us at the city center because “ it was the last line of the day “. It was the second such trip of the day at about 2pm. So that was kinda disappointing. I am gonna try some of the other available tourist buses next time.

I purchased tickets in the afternoon for my husband & I to take the bus back to our river ship dock and then I planned on using the tickets the next day to sightsee. The bus driver skipped the port stop and proceeded across the Danube. I told him he had missed our stop and he said he would stop on the way back. He stopped on the opposite side of the river and my husband and I had to walk back from there, approximately two miles. This was too long of a walk for my elderly husband and he was unable to walk the next day. I went to their office the next morning to ask for a refund and was told to use email. The company offered me 20% for two tickets that I could not use because of their drivers error. Use the Big Red Bus.

This is a great way to see the city! I would recommend riding for a couple of hours and making notes about what you want to see. There is a red line and a blue line and the app is awesome. This is not a tour guide experience, the drivers aren’t friendly and don’t point out areas of interest. This is basically a bus service, but it’s a great option compared to Uber/taxi.

If your intention is to stay hot, spend more time stopped at traffic lights than driving, see the outskirts of Vienna and miss most of the charm of a beautiful and wonderful city, this is your perfect option. Spend your money on a scenic sauna, you'll get repeated explanations on the audible and you'll end up bored if your choice is the blue or yellow route. I do not recommend the experience at all. Expensive, unattractive and with a 100% tourist service.
Go, walk, observe and enjoy Vienna, it is a beautiful city, with a lot of attractions and a lot of history to see and enjoy, but certainly not getting on a bus where you will waste time, money and patience.

1) where can i find a list of stops for this particular shop on Hop Off?

Does this ticket serve as a Vienna Pass for entry into museums? I’ve seen conflicting remarks regarding this.
Written 20 July 2019
There are 3 options as far as I understood. We bought a 2 day pass only. You can buy more expensive pass which give you entry to palaces and museums. On this trip we didn’t think it necessary.

Wat is het verschil tussen big hop on hop off bus en de gewone
Written 6 July 2019
