Overview
This day trip takes you from Vienna to the Wachau, a picturesque valley along the Danube. You will see many medieval castles, grand monasteries and a breathtaking landscape. Passing the small town of Krems and the ruins of Dürnstein castle, we continue to the village of Spitz on the Danube river. From here you will have an impressive boat trip on the Danube to Melk. The Highlight will be the guided tour through the magnificent Benedictine Abbey.
Highlights
  • Magnificent views along the Danube River on a boat cruise (seasonal)
  • Guided visit to Melk Abbey: Learn the Benedictine monastery’s history
  • Discover the UNESCO-listed landscapes of the Wachau Valley
  • Hassle-free round-trip transport from Vienna by comfortable coach
What to Expect
Arrive at the central Vienna meeting point for a 9am departure. Travel to the Danube Valley aboard a comfortable coach and follow the Danube River into the countryside filled with dense woodlands and rolling vineyards. In the UNESCO-listed Wachau Valley, listen as your guide points out historic landmarks, such as the medieval castle of Burgruine Durnstein and riverside towns, like the wine village of Krems. Board a boat in Spitz for a 1.5-hour Danube River cruise, taking in dramatic views while gliding downstream to Melk. Between November and April the boat cruise will be replaced by a meal in a local restaurant. Browse the shops in Melk village before boarding the coach for the return journey to Vienna.

Directions not clear, it mentions "Pink Rabbit" never saw this place. Too much sitting around instead of site seeing. The boat ride was great but the tour of Melk Abbey was very average.More

Great value. Especially nice on a good sunny day. The gardens of Melk Abbey and the village below are worth an entire day alone.

We had to meet near the Opera House in the center of the City which is where most tours depart from. For us it was an easy 15 minute walk from our Hotel.

Yes we did stop at Durnstein and had time to explore for about an hour. Quaint little town, and some great spots to capture a few photos.

It depends on each tour's policy (number of luggage per passenger) and space available on each bus. You need to check with the tour company to make sure.
