About
With so much to see in such a compact area, a walking tour is by far the most convenient way to experience UNESCO-listed Valletta. But large groups can be crowded and impersonal. This Valletta walking tour is limited to 30 people, meaning personal attention as you check off the sights: perfect for first-time visitors or anyone with limited time.

See the Grandmaster’s Palace, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and Fort St. Elmo
Learn about Malta’s history, culture, and architecture from your local guide

What to expect
Join your guide and small group in the heart of Valletta. After a brief overview of the city’s history since the Knights of St. John (Hospitallers) built it in 1565, stroll past star attractions from the Baroque era: the Auberge de Castille, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and the Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck. Hear tales of Maltese history as you view the Grandmaster’s Palace. See sights from the new Parliament building and the ruins of the Royal Theater to Fort St. Elmo and the Siege Bell War Memorial. Wander the charming Barrakka Gardens with their sweeping views across Grand Harbor as you learn about modern Valletta. Finally, bid guide and group farewell in central Valletta.

Great tour, lovely guide
We really enjoyed this tour, Matthew is very knowledgable and great guy, happy to answer questions etc. It’s a small city so not too tiring and a lot of info packed into 3 hours! Definitely worth a visit to learn more about this beautiful city.

Definitely recommend to do this tour at the beginning of your trip. The guide was excellent at the setting the scene and the historical context for the development of the city. I was so impressed I did the Mdina tour as well!

Disappointed
There was very little walking on this walking tour. The guide was keen to give a lot of very inconsequential information and a very small number of stops. We gave up after the first hour. 20 people on the tour.

Thank you for your review and for confirming that our tours have a limit of 20 participants. We're sorry to learn from here that you didn't have a positive experience like the majority of our travellers who also comment on this page. The guide is highly experienced and from your comment it is difficult to understand what disappointed you in the delivery. I'm finding it difficult to understand the contradiction of having few stops and little walking since it's impossible to have both issues at the same time while going through an entire city. Having said that, that you left after an hour, you missed 2/3 of the tour and also missed most of the walking in the rest of the tour.

Great value walking tour
Sep 2021 • Friends
Great value tour! Matthew was a very informative guide and there’s not an awful lot of walking involved, since Valletta is such a small city. Quite a lot of standing about but Matthew always picked us a shady spot before he started talking.Wonderful views.Well worth the money

A perfect tour of Valletta
Aug 2021
This was a fantastic tour. Matthew was so knowledgeable, explaining every detail of the places we saw and the history behind them clearly and interestingly. He was humorous and gave us insights into the lives of Maltese citizens, as well. It was the perfect amount of time, Matthew kept us in the shade as much as he could, and the group size was very manageable. Definitely book this tour!

Excellent, in-depth interesting tour

Excellent walking tour of Valleta. Met guide at 10am along with 10+ other people, he explained social distancing/mask requirements, then did a tour starting near the Valetta Gate covering the immediate area, before moving on to other areas. Lots of detail and extra insights given throughout tour, very insightful - we'd never had understood many thins we looked at without the guide. 25 min break during the 3 hour tour, time went by quickly. Totally recommend.
