Having done several city sightseeing tours in other cities before, we thought it would be a great way to not only see the central part of Malta, but it also covered most of the island and with the 48h ticket you could do a day on the boat which takes you to Gozo and/or Comino.
As seen by a lot of the other reviews the problems are the buses are only every hour, only last til mid afternoon and if you want to do both loops in one day you can only really stop at one stop for an hour and that’s it.
We chose to use it as a guide to where we would like to visit for the rest of the week (and just used the local buses), but I understand why lots of reviews are v negative as once you work out you can only really do one stop it doesn’t feel v good value for money. The audio was just okay, so much more information and history could be added. The timetable as the day goes on gets less accurate (but the same could be said of the local buses) and the day we went for the boat ride, the first bus never turned up at all and the next was only taking those of us needing to get to the boats on time (use the hop on off bus to get to the ferry stop).
We decided to only go to Gozo (given the bad reviews of the blue lagoon) and chose not to do the Gozo hop on hop off bus and just got a local bus up to Victoria and back. On the way back the boat was rammed, there was not enough seats for everyone and disabled passengers were forced to stand and staff made no effort to ask seated passengers to give up their seats.
Overall it was disappointing and I would only recommend if you’re happy with just sitting on the bus to see where you’d like to go using either the local buses or hiring a car later on, which you might not think is worth it.
If they could increase the frequency of buses and extend how late they run it would be much better.

All the Excursion companies in Qawra and Bugibba recommend City Sightseeing and I see malta pass so first rang @Tui and asked if we get the tour can we get on any bus, they responded yes any bus
OK So we went for a 4 day pass, this allows any bus or water route hop on hop off along with entrance to 31 attractions
So day one went off to a good start, the bus turned up , we found the bus only goes one way round the route and are an hour apart. But that shouldn’t be a problem
We had set our plans to go to Valletta, spend the day viewing the many sites there. We set off from Qawra and settled in for the tour, well sporadic out of time commentary started quite well. But as we went towards Valetta more and more of the descriptions were out of sync and sites were not visible
So Valetta main entrance stop, not what you expect so we missed it and got off at the next stop, only to find most places that your ticket gets you into are still closed or on a rota of days open and our luck shot out here as most were closed on the Monday we got there.
Day two we had planned on going to GOZO and catch the first ferry at 10:40 , the ferry went straight past and did not stop, there was no representative from the company on the pier, we was also sat in 30 degrees so after phoning the company and being told it was 15 minutes away, this happened twice
at 11:25 we went to the nearest trip office that is an official I see Malta shop he said it would be 15 minutes, We had a coffee and waited at 11:50 we had wasted nearly half the day so we decided to get a bus to Valetta to try and see some more of the sites, as the bus departed we saw the ferry coming round the corner but the day had been wasted. Apparently, the ferry was full so had to drop off and come back as they didn’t put a second ferry on and we caught a normal bus back that was quicker and only 2 Euros each
We planned to go to Rabbat so got the first bus which was at 8:15 outside our hotel. So at 8:35 again had to ring and find where the first bus was as the start of the route is only 15 minutes away, it turned up at 9 am. Stopping at the shopping village on the way to Rabbat seemed pointless as it was closed, again most of the attractions were closed but Mdina is well worth a visit
Day 3 we planned to get to Silema and catch the ferry to Gozo, We found out there that is what everybody planned, off we went to Gozo , on arriving we approach the hop on hop off bus
We were then told we had category 2 tickets and needed category 3 tickets to get the tour.
Scam is what it is, why sell and all-inclusive 4 day pass that is not all inclusive, day 3 wasted
Day 4 we went back to Valetta and managed to see more sites

All in Get a normal bus for 2 euros each and save money save time and enjoy a non-frustrating day ,I See Malta is a serious waste of money !!

My husband and I have used hop on / hop off busses in many places, so we thought we would give this a try in an effort to see some of the interesting places in Malta.
What a mistake we made!
We boarded the bus in Mellieha, then spent the next hour or so travelling around a variety of resorts picking up extra passengers along the way. The one thing this taught us was that we were so happy to have chosen Mellieha as a place to stay!
When we finally reached Valletta I was conscious of having to check the bus timetable and locate the next stop in order to pick up the South Route in good time to be able to visit other places along the route.
This is in no way a ‘hop on / hop off’ experience. Stops were not announced in sufficient time, not enough busses were available to allow us to get off and enjoy a little time in the various locations en route, and when we did decide to disembark in order to visit the Hagar Qim historic site, we didn’t have enough time to see as much as we wanted to because the last bus was due in an hour’s time.
Then began the arduous, 1+ hour return to Mellieha, once again via numerous other stops (one couple missed their stop and were dropped off at a public bus stop miles from their destination so that the rest of us weren’t inconvenienced).
We spent most of the day on the bus and
didn’t even learn that much about the island!
Seriously, we’d have been much better off using the public busses at €1.50 a trip - we’d have reached our destinations faster and happier!

Booked a HOHO trip in August, 4 adults & 1 child approx £95.00.Decided to stick to the north route, pick up at 9.15 Mellieha. Started off on top open air deck but realised at almost 40° this was not a good idea.Below deck was absolutely boiling & very uncomfortable.Planned to see at least 3 -4 places on the tour, what an absolute joke.We got off in Buggiba & had 1 hour then we wanted to see Valetta, it takes forever, bumping along the roads, nothing to see from the lower deck windows at all, bus broke down, waited 45 mins for another to collect us.By the time we made it to Valetta we were sweating, thirsty, felt sick... only had 1 hour in Valetta because we had to get back to our starting place to get a connecting bus (from hotel Topaz) this was the last available bus at around 6pm. We rushed back to the bus for it to go 5 mins down the road and then stop for a 30 min break!!We eventually got back to Hotel Topaz & had to wait 10 mins for another bus to take us back to Mellieha. Arrived back 7pm.So, 9.15am - 7pm we saw 1 hour in Buggiba and 1 hour in Valetta which was only enough time to get lunch so saw nothing. Absolute waste of a full day at nearly £100.
We were even taken to a craft village, the Village was completely closed, not a single store open but they still stop and give you the option to get off! (Its in the middle of nowhere) it also takes you to an aviation museum, again, closed! Totally pointless, waste of money, wasted day.

Friends
Joined tour in Silemia arrived in Valletta short distance away where rude employee boarded bus and wasted 40 mins rechecking tickets in stationary bus .. overcrowded bus, hot, audios not all working very uncomfortable
Eventually got to Mosta and went to visit church then waited over one hour for another bus . We eventually gave up waiting and along with most of rest of group took a local bus to Medina ., so we spent 40 e on a single journey to Mosta .. would have got there quicker and for 4 e on local bus
Appalling doesn’t even describe this service .. we rang company who advised that bus delayed to Mosta due to accident on roads .. however 5 of their competitors bus passed us during this time .. same route so can only wonder how they got by ??? Also emailed to complain and no reply
Avoid at all costs ! Worst service ever of any bus of this type .. wasted our day and money

Expensive and poorly run. Plenty of vendors selling the tickets but the actual buses are run far too infrequently and over sold. People were sat on the stairs as no seats available. We waited an hour for a bus that never arrived. We approached nearby vendor (tickets) who asked us if we had purchased the tickets from him (no we bought online) he was initially reluctant to help us….but then told us that 2 buses had been passed in the last 30 mins. Unless the ghost bus tour had replaced the usual service then I expect they lie to cover up the fact it’s a poorly run Route. Once onboard half the head phone sockets wouldn’t work, and the commentary is non existent. Shame actually taking a local taxi around the route would of been a) cheaper b) more comfortable and c) more informative 🙃 Finally they decided to change the return route cutting out the stop we wanted 🤷‍♀️

The south route is way better than the north route in my opinion. The south route has more interesting stops and seems better paced whereas the north route has long stretches of nothingness (farmed fields etc) between anything of interest.

The commentary was disappointing. It sounded like someone at a Maltese government office had written it all, in Maltese, then it was translated to English and you ended up with a pompous, inaccessible commentary full of complex sentence structures and unusual words. I could follow but it felt like I was attending a lecture at university held by a professor with poor presentation skills. I also found it difficult to work out where I was and the commentary was very sporadic - sometimes there was a long lecture on topics such as bees and then nothing for a long period of time. I had to sit there with the map of the bus route, and google maps on my phone to work out what I was actually looking at when we went past.

If you plan to use these buses you have to be organized, need to read the website and information very thoroughly, and you have to plan your day around the timetables. You also have to start pretty early since the buses stop running at dusk and it's no fun being on the bus when it's dark anyway.

The website does warn that there may be delays and changes to the timetable because of construction going on in Malta so keep that in mind.

The buses do not run frequently and you have to check then double check with the driver when the next or last bus is from your stop, otherwise you may find yourself abandoned. Realistically you also do not have the ability to get off more than twice in one day, so think about what places you want to get off and. For me I just followed the route, made a note of places I wanted to come back to, then got off once for lunch.

If doing this in winter it gets kinda chilly at the top so dress up really warm if you want to enjoy the open top!

I also did the harbour cruise and found it wasn't worth the money. They seem to drag out the trip by taking you into nooks and crannies of the harbour including lots of industrial parts that are both ugly and not interesting.

I also would not recommend the 2 day ticket. If doing this bus tour, get the 1 day and do the south route, then take a Bolt or similar to the few interesting sites there are on the north route such as Mdina.

Overall I found the experience of this company in Malta disappointing compared to the other cities where I used the same company.

The biggest problem with this Hop-On Hop-Off bus, as we found out, was that once you have hopped on, it’s almost impossible to hop off again.

The reason is that the North route is 3 and a half hours round. And in the winter, the service only runs every 60 minutes. And the very last stop is at 18:00, which means, depending on your final stop, that could actually mean your last drop off is 14:30 (i.e. 18:00 minus 3.5 hours).

We boarded the bus at 11:15 at Sliema waterfront, which meant the earliest we could return again was 14:45, and the latest we could return was 15:45. And since the busses only run every 60 minutes, that meant we could only get off at one stop and then of course you have to wait a full hour for the next bus.

So actually, unless you start early in the morning, it’s pretty useless. We actually never got off the bus, just staying on from start to finish.

Finally, the busses themselves and out of the ark, dropping to bits and have no information system other than a manky headphone socket. It’s 2020 so where are the information displays? I had to use my smartphone to see where we were.

For €20 a pop it’s a rip off. Next time we are in Malta we will just get a weekly bus ticket for €21 and then we can use it all week and go wherever we want, when we want.

The transfer bus should only pick up those going to Cirkewwa for the Gozo ferry (not make us change buses because it was busy picking up and dropping off people going to other locations in Malta ) which resulted in us missing our scheduled ferry and then having to wait 45 mins in hot sunshine with no shade for the next hop on hop off bus in Gozo. (I guess we were lucky as we met one lady who left her hotel at 0830 and didn't arrive in Gozo until 1300!). Also don't do what I did - which was to take the last bus on Gozo - it arrived @45 mins late which meant I missed the ferry and transfer in Cirkewwa so had to pay 35 Euros to get back to my hotel.
And don't bother to give City Sightseeing any feedback - they ignore letters (even recorded delivery ones) to their Director and if you're lucky their Customer Service team once they investigate will offer you a ticket to use their Gozo service again and suggest you to contact the agent who sold you their servce for any out of pocket compensation!
