Incredible experience. Our guide Diogo Pedroso was fantastic. Two out of our group of 6 were very nervous and to say Diogo was very, very patient, understanding and supportive to both so they could complete it wouldn't do him justice. He did not leave them at any point yet still managed to ensure he kept an eye on the rest of us and took photos. Getting ready is freezing - it was -10'C plus a wind factor at 9am so getting into water at 2'C was actually warmer!! We each had a lot of help to get our kit on and were each checked to ensure parts of the kit were sealed at various stages. The snorkeling itself is just amazing and absolutely worth it, I wore two pairs of woollen socks, 2 thermal lightweight tops and thermal leggings and coped fine in the water. Tie long hair back as it can get wet and trapped in the hood, would not recommend wearing earrings as the hood going on and off can catch. The hot chocolate at the end was much appreciated, Diogo was funny and helpful to us all - and the small resemblance to Aquaman was appreciated 😁

My husband and I had an amazing time snorkelling at Silfra! Our guide Josh was awesome, so kind and friendly and made us laugh too. Putting on the gear was a slick operation as it can take some time, but they took an 'all hands on deck' approach to get everyone sorted as quickly as possible. We were taken out as a group of 6 to start our snorkelling which kept the tour personable. Josh was great at providing reassurance for newer snorkellers in case the mask fills with water/snorkel tube gets filled with water, which helped to put minds at ease. The buoyancy of the dry suit made the experience so easy as didn't have to worry about swimming, could really enjoy the views of the tectonic plates, the water is so clear it was a really unique experience. Hot chocolate and biscuits after were a nice touch too to have a debrief. We paid extra to have photos underwater (around £18 for both of us), which I'd say was worth it. Josh took great pictures of us and of the scenery which have been great to share with family and friends. The photos were available quickly after the tour and able to download.
Overall I'd highly recommend this experience - once in a lifetime and you won't regret it! It really was one of the highlights of our trip.

Absolutely freezing day - the dry suits became ecto-skeletons once they were wet - but the whole team were super-efficient, very friendly, and coped extremely well with the conditions (and the tourists for whom the conditions were much less friendly than the staff).
Don't be put off by the weather. Minus 8 was not too cold once the thinsulate onsies were on, and they have extra-warm socks available to buy if you don't have enough of your own (3 pairs is a good idea).
Our small group (6) were looked after by Konrad who pitched his supervision perfectly.
Our daughter, who managed to lose the DropBox for our photos, said snorkelling between the plates was the best experience of the week in Iceland (and we saw a volcano erupt too.
Final positive comment, the team in the Dive.Is office sorted us out with the link after a Facebook message so we have our photographs too.

We got to the site at the specified meeting time. The team helped us put our wetsuits on, while they are somewhat uncomfortable at first your body gets used to it quite quickly, afterwards they take you to orientation where you get a short rundown on the history of Silfra and the dos and don'ts of snorkeling.
The dive site is not that far from the meeting point, it's a 3 minute walk in your drysuit.
When you get there, you might have to wait a few minutes depending on the amount of tours booked for the day.
When we got into the water the drysuits insulated us nicely and the 3° C water didn't bother us at all.
We had a great guide, his name was Arnar. He explained the history of the place, gave us tips on our snorkeling and was overall very attentive (also took some amazing pictures, thanks Arnar!)
We were then given pointers on how to dive in our wetsuits and explored the rest of the fissure/lagoon.
I would definitely recommend the experience wether you are a beginner or not. The sights are something truly worth seeing!

As someone who has anxiety and some mild claustrophobia, I was both wildly excited and nervous when we signed up for this tour… but I’m so glad we did! It was an absolute blast and I felt very cared for by our guide Aleksandra. Some things to know: you first put on a full body jumpsuit over your clothes, and then a neoprene suit with boots. The team then helps you into gloves and a hood over your neck, ears and forehead. They may also put some straps around your wrists or neck to ensure it’s water tight. I was more comfortable than I expected, but it can still be pretty tight around your neck. The guides do a great job explaining the snorkeling route and how to use the equipment and then you’re off! The suit is super buoyant so you float effortlessly - all you have to do is kick and you can roll over on your back if you need a break or to clear your mask. The groups are small, your guide is always nearby, and you’re in the water for 25-45 minutes. The water was incredibly clear and the experience was so special - it quickly became one of the best parts of our trip! Having snorkeled in the open ocean in the Caribbean before, I found this experience much easier and less tiring. Highly recommends, and many thanks to Aleks for making it all such a great experience.

My family went snorkeling on 08/14/23, it happened to be a perfect sunny day. Our guide Boris is very efficient, he made sure everyone's gear fits and seals well, and provided clear instruction for every turn in the water. At the end all 6 persons in our group stayed dry under the dry suit.
The snorkling time is about a half hour, the whole process is about 2 hours or more.
The water is green/blue and deep, the sun's reflection through the water on the rocks and algae below created a fantastic scene. Didn't expect breathing through snorkeling tube could be so effortless and enjoyable.
Parking payment machine in Lot5 doesn't work well. The parking charge could be paid online before or after the event within 24 hours.
In general, Dive.is and Boris did a great job to provide an unforgettable experience for us.

I went snorkeling in Silfra for my birthday in October 2022, it was an unforgettable experience. In autumn I recommend to book the tour of 14:00 pm (it 's less crowded and you can enjoy the sunset right over Silfra) and to wear before the dry suit a second pair of wool socks.
I also very recommend you my guide Andreas, he was very professional, efficient, friendly and very careful to details (I mean the dry suit dressing part) making my snorkeling tour an unforgettable experience which I widely recommend and personally would be happy to repeat again (even if the water temperature was 2°C and I tried to free dive, I came out almost dry when outside was freezing).

Dive is a well-organized organization. We feel that they are used to it while still having to remain efficient. Nothing to say about the professionalism of our guides Jake and Gabe, they did not miss any details, in particular on the safety linked to the waterproofness of the suits.
Rest assured between your clothes, a fleece suit, the diving suit, the gloves, the hood, you will not be cold! But this gear takes time to put on and is uncomfortable, take that into account.
In total the activity lasts 2.5 hours, time to prepare, complete the route of approximately 35 minutes, return, change, and enjoy biscuits and hot chocolates.
The ride is incredible! It's worth it? Yes clearly. The experience is unique, we leave in groups of 6 for a guide so we don't "step" on each other.
What we see in these waters, I haven't seen it anywhere else, and to think that we are swimming between 2 continents does something.
þingvellir is a nice park, but doing the Silfra Fault is THE thing to do in the park.
The cost is not negligible, but like everywhere in the country.
You can bring a camera if you wish and/or pay $20 for the photos that the guide will take for you.
Personally I would recommend this experience to anyone visiting the region.

Snorkeling with KAROL was a memorable experience ! He helped us overcome fear of the cold and the feeling of being constrained by the tight dry suits with good humour, patience and empathy.
In his modesty he radiates quiet confidence that we are in good hands and he will oversee every step of the unique snorkelling experience.
The actual snorkelling went very well, the dry suit and inner jump suit did their job of insulating us against the ice-cold water. We enjoyed the incredible transparent waters and the basalt rock formations.
Amazing to consider you are swimming at the meeting point of two continents !
Highly recommend - Karol suggests best times are early morning (even consider 6:00 private session when nobody else is there, or late afternoon after the crowds have gone. We snorkelled at 13:00 so during peak hours. It was busy overall, crowded in the changing van, but well managed and efficient overall.
It goes without saying … go to the toilet just before the swim ;-)

Overall, it was an amazing experience. Our guide, Hanna, was incredibly friendly and provided detailed explanations throughout the tour. I highly recommend that future participants request Hanna as their guide—her warmth and expertise made the experience even better.
The only reasons I didn’t give a full score were that my dry suit had a slight leak, making it a bit chilly, and the wait time before entering the water was a bit longer than expected. However, these minor issues didn’t overshadow the beauty of the underwater world we explored.
If you're considering a snorkeling adventure in Iceland, I definitely suggest giving it a try, and don’t forget to ask for Hanna!

Do we need any prior certifications to do this? Or can we book and just do it?
Written 12 February 2025
There's no need for certifications. However, you really have to know how to swim and switch from front to back swimming. And there's no possibility of 'standing in the water for a break and then continuing to swim', it's a non-stop swimming activity. It's really fun and beautiful experience. Just do it!

What is the reason for 12 year old min age to snorkel?
Written 12 August 2023
That’s a question for the outfitter but I am sure it is safety related and due to very cold water and size of wet suits and masks

I am a weak swimmer and usually opt for a floatation device when snorkeling. Is the dry suit sufficient or are there floatation devices available?
Written 10 July 2023
Hello. The dry suit is more than enough. No problems. Just bare the cold a bit, but really fun. Enjoy

I am looking at booking the snorkeling for our trip in June and I just wanted to make sure that for snorkeling only there is no PADI or certifications required to do this excursion is that correct?
Written 25 March 2023
That's correct. No certificates are needed to snorkel. We had a group of 6 with a very experienced dive instructor. It felt very safe and you stay on the surface.
