Overview

Ice-strewn Jokulsarlon—one of Iceland’s top sights—attracts thousands of visitors every year hoping to get a close look at the glacier lagoon. The lagoon is roughly a 5-hour drive from Reykjavik and can be difficult to fit into an efficient itinerary. This tour combines a lagoon cruise with a coach tour of southern Iceland, stopping at waterfalls and scenic viewpoints on your way to visit one of the country’s natural wonders.

What to Expect

Board your bus at a central Reykjavik pickup point and set off on your journey towards Iceland’s southern coast.

Drive past picturesque villages, glacial rivers, and volcanic peaks. Listen while your guide shares stories about southern Iceland, and marvel at the epic landscapes of Skaftafell, a wilderness area in Vatnajökull National Park.

Stop at Skogarfoss waterfall and drive through Skeidararsandur, a vast black sand plain. See Oraefajokull—Iceland’s largest active volcano—just before you reach the lagoon.

At the lagoon, take in the expanse of water strewn with ice. During the summer (May to September), get close to the ice with an amphibian boat tour.

Hop back on board the bus for the drive back to Reykjavik to be dropped off at the departure point.

Very long drive to a black beach

The South Coast 'adventure' is a standard day excursion offered by a plethora of operators. The seats in the van are skinny and tight, made less comfortable by the enforced seat belt rule. The main stops are good, especially the glacier and the black beach....More

MUST SEE Tour to see the REAL Iceland landscapes!

It is a LONG Tour---but necessary! Do NOT simply book the short "Southern Tour". You MUST add the Glacier Lagoon or Glacier Walking, etc....to see all of the changing landscapes of Iceland. The lava fields on the way to the Glacier Lagoon are an amazing...More
