The Northern Lights Tour was a dream experience and we saw the aurora from the centre of a frozen lake. It was incredible and our guide Juhani was fantastic, full of knowledge and enthusiasm and we drove through some bad weather to clear skies because he knew exactly where to go. We had a fire and hotsnacks which kept us going in the freezing cold. When the sky exploded it was miracle of nature and more than worth the wait. Absolutely life enhancing day !

This was such an amazing night. Ryan our host was soooo good! Ryan had done his homework and knew exactly the best spots to go, once we found a clearing in the clouds he showed us how to set our cameras up for the best pictures of the northern lights. Plus he also took pics of the entire group which were shared afterwards too.
All equipment you could possibly need, including boots, apparel, tripods, head torches, drinks and food were all provided. A really great quality, fun and interactive tour.
We’ll done ryan and then team 👍🙏🏼

Went 30km away from Rovaniemi to see the Northen Lights in the middle of the forest, in a swamp covered by snow. A milliard stars above and we were lucky enough to see also the Northen Lights.
Highly recommend the experience : Oren is a super enthusiast guide and he helped me set up my camera do to some pictures of the Northen lights - and I made some unbelievable photos thanks to him (even if my camera is not great) + With or without the NL, the scenery is just amasing and the nature, the trees, the snow, the sound of the wind. It worths every penny !

The tour is very well organised, but Oren is not a nice guide at all. The tour was advanced in time almost an hour, but still we lost the moment with the most activity, because Oren keeps annoying everyone time and time again about the clothing and some unimportant details. When we arrived a lot later, the activity had dropped a lot, so little northern light was still visible. Also, it seemed to bother Oren that my wife - which is a professional photographer - didn't want to use his settings. We also got a hard remark about the fact that my wife had to use her flashlight to setup her camera (she needed to do that for 5 minutes to adjust the settings at the beginning of the shoot). But the rest of the night Oren disturbed my wife's photographing with his flaslight, which stayed on the whole time, without interruption. When we wanted to move further away from the group (because of the light) it was forbidden. And than he started to play with bigger lights to shoot some portret pictures of all the people. We payed double cost (according to most organisations) to higher our chances to see northern light, not to have portret pictures taken in the dark with light effects. One good point, Oren had us stay till midnight (he didn't bother to stay a little longer) and at 23h30 we finally got some northern light after all. Just regretfull that Oren's flashlight is visible in every picture we took (shutter speed was 30 to 60 seconds). When afterwards Oren explained that his pictures can be purchased I understand why he didn't want my wife to take her professional pictures, or why these pictures should best faulter. But Oren forgets that we allready payed 250 Euros to have 4-5 hours of expedition time for the both of us. Selling pictures should be a nice extra for those who are interested, but should not ruin the whole experience for everyone. On top, Oren is very arrogant and unfriendly to people. We were 8 people and he asked the same people four times where they were coming from... A little empathy is mandatory for a guide, unless it's for a free museum tour.

Dear Rudy, Thank you for your feedback and joining our Northern Lights tour. For me it seems that you have had very personal issue with our guide Oren who has been one of the most liked guides in our team and have received nothing but positive feedback over this winter. It is very sad for me to learn that you have felt such a way on a tour that has been otherwise great and very well organized. I feel that booking your place on small group adventure (with total 8 people) as your wife is professional photographer might be an issue here, as you have clearly been annoyed by other people and the things that are happening around you. If we would have known this beforehand, we would have definitely recommended a private tour for you, on which your wife will get all the attention and there is nothing around you to disturb her. With proper communication, this could have been easily avoided as we always recommend private tour for every professional photographer joining our tours. I will let our guide Oren to answer your feedback, as you have brought this issue very personal level in your feedback. Oren's answer: First of all I must say I was surprised and got hurt personally from your review, and I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart that this was your experience from our tour. I experienced things differently and so did the rest of the group - I got good reviews from the very same tour. I think that with proper communication between your wife and me, your bad experience that you described would have been solved already during the tour right away. I've been working in the guiding field for more than 16 years and I never got such a review like the one you left. You wrote a very detailed review so I will try to address the things you mention. About clothing and equipment we provide in our office before going out for tours and expeditions - safety is always number one in all our activities. In the arctic there is extreme conditions and temperatures can drop rapidly, so having warm thermal overalls, gloves, hats and boots and woolen socks to keep the body warm to avoid hypothermia and frostbites is very important. For some guests there is better clothing already when they arrive and for some there is not enough clothing. As a team we need to be patient and wait for all the guests in the group to be ready for the journey. Same with extra equipment we provide for the photographing like tripods for cameras and smartphones as well as rental cameras. About asking our guests about their camera settings: Not all our guests are professional photographers, and one of the main service we provide in our photography tours is to help the guests to set up their cameras and take photographs of the northern lights on their own. I'm very sorry if your wife got offended by the night photography tips I gave her. About light disturbing in the night photography: I always recommend all the participants of the group to take a good distance from each other, so that we will not be in front of each other. On the location we have been and like in all the other private locations we have, there is very wide and open space for photographing. This is one of the biggest advantages to be in a small group on a private location and not supporting mass tourism. Indeed, sometimes we still need to communicate with each other so that we will not disturb each other with lights while photographing. If we are too near to each other or the angle of the camera is including your neighbor photographer, in this case we always communicate. Your wife went quite far, and I asked her several times if everything is ok and didn’t hear complaints. Part of the service we provide is also photographing people with the northern lights, I understand and respect that some people will not want to be in front of the camera, but in order to photograph the rest of the group, the guide photographer must use flashlight in order to focus the camera to the face of the model and also to use flash. But as I said before, one of the main targets of this tour is that our guests themselves will take pictures of the northern lights with their own cameras, and the guide will do EVERYTHING to help them to get good photos. In this case I failed with the communication with your wife and for this I’m very sorry. Even though, as I said, I did try to communicate with her in the field and did ask if everything is going well. About moving away from the group, the truth is the opposite what you mentioned. As I said, I’m encouraging to take a big distance from each other. You might refer to a guidance I gave when we arrived to a location, that I don’t recommend going too far on the lake, because in this area there was about 20-30 cm of cold water on the top of the ice, so in order to not get your feet wet and cold we give information about the surroundings. You and your wife were in the opposite direction. About your sentence I wanted your wife pictures to fail, I must say I got really hurt, because the main task we have is that our guests will get good pictures with the equipment they have, and for this we put lots of concentration and effort every night. I must say, I did try many times to communicate with your wife (we both talked English), and I felt she rejected my offer for help. And about the pictures that we take for our team members with our own cameras, they are free of charge! It is included on the price of the tour. If some guests want the highest quality, original versions of the pictures in order to have a large prints, then they can pay extra to get the maximum quality pictures. This way we respect the professionalism of each of our photographer. But pictures we provide free of charge from the tour are in good quality for social media and small prints. And about your last sentence, I will not answer directly to what you wrote, I would just say it is not appropriate to have this kind of personal attack in a review. I would address to the reason you wrote it, that I probably asked a few times where are you from, as I said before, safety in the tour is number one, and when a guide needs to drive on icy roads in the dark, with reindeers that might appear on the road, and to think also about the weather, locations and to give useful informative information about the northern lights and how to chase them, sometimes, not all the information said in the car is being recorded in the memory, especially if the guide have attention deficit disorder like me (-: I must say, I have a very different experience from what you described, because me and your wife were talking in the car about her being professional photographer and we had a very nice and positive conversation about different aspects of real estate photography and many other subjects. After all this I find this personal attack very weird. Finally, I want to say that I apologize from the bottom of my heart for your experience, I think it would look different with better communication. I wish you and your wife all the best. Oren.

I booked this tour very last minute (the same morning) So I was very grateful we were able to fit us onto the tour.

Pick up from the hotel was smooth and easy.

Arrival at Beyond Arctic offices where if needed snowsuits, boots and gloves were offered. A Tripod was also offered if needed. (I brought my own but a member of the group borrowed one with a mobile phone attachment)

We drove around 45min to our first location, saw the northern lights starting to appear. Guide set up tripod and his camera. Explaining the basic settings. Offered help with setting to achieve best results on mobile phones.

Drive another 30min to second location, and saw a wonderful light show. We took pictures and our guide also took pictures of the couples and individually in front of the lights, which I will always cherish.

Had a bbq and cooked hot dogs a vegetarian option was also offered. Once warmed up by the fire had the chance to take a few more photos before leaving.

Drive back to city centre location to drop off any borrowed equipment and use the bathroom.

Drop off at the hotel.

So we really enjoyed the experience, Juhani was a good guide, his driving skills were great and on the way back you could see him actively checking the sky.

Is it a photography tour in the traditional sense? No. But if luck is on your side your guide will help you get the pictures of the Aurora that you can keep forever!

Excellent trip with Ryan, collected from resort and provided with all the warm gear you would need and advice for the night ahead. Lucky enough to see the lights at first stop on the tour, where we spent the night, and the views over the frozen lake to the horizon were stunning, both Northern Lights and the star filled sky. Tepee on site to warm up by fire with hot drink and a snack. Our camera was not up to spec but Ryan was very patient trying to help us. No worries though as he took some amazing photos for us which we have now received. Really recommend this tour.

We had a great time with Beyond Arctic on the expedition and Maiju was a lifesaver to help us with the portrait when our battery ran out!
Her photography tips to best capture the Northern lights were really helpful. Maiju was committed to chase down the lights all the way to the Swedish border to make sure we had the best shot at seeing the lights.

It’s a pity Lady Aurora wasn’t in quite the mood to show herself! But we did see the initial phases of the lights which made our day! Hopefully there’s a next time for us with Beyond Arctic again!

Oren was amazing and drove us to two isolated spots. We were lucky enough to see a phenomenal show of the Aurora in each location. Oren let us stay much longer on the lake to make the most of it! He helped us get the best quality pictures with our phones and took even better ones on his camera, he was AWESOME!

My wife and I were part of a small group led by Oren on January 9, 2022. We were very fortunate that we were able to see the lights. Oren took us to 2 locations. At the first location, Oren let the group stay in the van while he scouted the location to see if we had a chance to see the lights. Oren came back and said we would move to the next site at a frozen lake. We had a great time viewing the lights on the lake! Oren was a great guide and host. He took great pics for us and helped us get the best pics for ourselves.

Obviously, no guide or tour company can offer any guarantees that the Northern Lights will show. That said, the guides at Beyond Arctic all have photography experience, and so they know all the best spots to go for a decent picture. I went with my partner at the start of the winter season (late Nov) and we were lucky enough to see the lights. Our guide, Braulio, showed everyone (who had a camera) how to set them up, to capture the best shot of the lights. I was even able to get some great shots using the new night mode feature on my Iphone. Beyond Arctic lent us tripods and warm clothing (they have everything) and we also had hot drinks and we cooked sausages (they have veggie) over a fire. Wonderful evening.
