A really informative and fun experience! We learned a lot about the reindeer and it was a surprise to see how different all the reindeer were in terms of character. The reindeer that was pulling our sleight was very enthusiastic (we went a lot faster than I thought we would!) and had a fun personality. The snack we had afterwards was also tasty and gave us the opportunity to speak to the staff a but more about their experiences with the reindeer.

Easy and fun cross country skiing in Lapland
Booked this tour a day in advance when I walked into their office downtown. Friendly guy who took my booking and our tour guide Oren was amazing. He helped with our skis and during the cross country skiing he made sure we were all having fun. I thought it would be hard but it was not too strenuous, you go at your own pace. The bbq and hot blueberry juice at the end of the ski was really enjoyable. Oren explained about the Finnish language, culture & showed us how to start a fire using the dry birchwood and bark. He even prepared vegan sausages (which was not expected) & a couple of people in our group was actually vegetarian/vegans. If you want to melt marshmallows pls ask in advance cos they prepare some for the kids! Highly recommend this day time activity as it’s about a 3 hour tour and really enjoyable being out in nature and exploring the Lapland country side. Thank you!

        Rovaniemi, Finland Experience
Rovaniemi, Finland was absolutely wonderful in February. I would recommend using Rovaniemi, specifically Santa Claus Village (Arctic Circle) as your hub. We stayed in the cottages which were spacious and very nice. Everyone in Rovaniemi knows where Santa Claus Village is located. Some of the activities we enjoyed were half day experience at a local reindeer farm in Lapland, eating dinner in an igloo/riding snow scooters on a frozen lake, and eating dinner at the ArticSnow Hotel and Glass Igloos/Restaurant, which was an absolutely amazing experience. We stayed in a glass/heated igloo (Santa's Hotel Aurora) in Luosto (ski village), spectacular! If you're lucky you will see the Northern Lights. Excellent vantage point. We hired a driver to get us from Luosto to Rovaniemi. It was about an 1 1/2 hour ride. The airport is about 5 minutes from Santa Claus Village. Be sure and wear a good pair of boots with good traction.

        Best hunting guide
We had this experience with Oren, unfortunately, due to cloudy weather we didn’t see the northern lights, however, our guide OREN took a lot of effort to entertained us all specially in our photos and made this experience one of the best night we had in Finland! We highly recommended him!

        Superb trip with fantastic guide
I can list the amazing things in this trip because I think everything I write below needs special mention considering I booked tours with other companies in rovaniemi and this was by far the best - 1. Timely pick up and drop service from rovaniemi 2. Comfortable minivans 3. Amazing food served during the hike - we were vegans and there were 2-3 options including cheese and 2-3 options for meat eaters too with seperate cutlery and grills for vegans - so so thoughtful 4. Extra spots the guide took us too because we were on time 5. Saving the best for the last - Orin Singer our wonderful guide. He was so kind and patient with everyone at various points in the hike - both uphill and downhill. He's also super knowledgeable about the area and shared super interesting facts about northern lights too and gave us tips to hunt them. It's not to be taken lightly because when you do trips and tours on a daily basis - it is your job after all and you can be grumpy and just do what's needed / get irritated. But orins friendly nature is what made this trip from good to fantastic. Thanks so much Orin and wishing you lots of good things.

        Disappointed with photographers
We loved the reindeer farm and ride. I was disappointed photographers did not take a picture of us in the sled. They took ones of us feeding the reindeer at our request. Other people had many photos of them.

        Great experience
We had an amazing experience with Oren our guide as he provided us with lot of information about the Northern lights. Oren kept on driving and trying to make sure that we see the lights and he also shared lot of information in detail about the lights in a fun and engaging way. I will recommend Oren for a great experience.

Experience the dancing photons on the first row!!
Your guide is 50% of your experience, the rest is the Northern Lights. Aki went far and beyond to make sure we had a 100% amazing experience. He drove for miles to find the perfect clear skies to be able to see and photograph the most spectacular show of lights possible on that night. Aki was kind, informative, and we got to know some of his personal interests as he is as transparent as you would want a friend to be. Don't hesitate, if you're lucky to see the Northern Lights and to get Aki as your guide the rest is a bonus! Reserve NOW!

        Fantastic experience in Levi
In Levi I lived the unique experience to see the northern lights. With Beyond Arctic we had a great experience, starting with better pick-up arrange in the morning and continuing with a costant presence during and after the activity. Meri has been a wonderful guide for us, explaining a lot about our doubts and curiosità, always supportive in our photo requests. Definitely to be suggested to all that want to have a complete service in Levi.

Can't wait to do this again
Had a great time hunting, our tour guide did her best to find northern lights. Unfortunately, we didn't see any northern lights, this can be expected it's a natural event and out of guide hands. She drove out to many and far points , and we learned so much of local and tradition. We took and had great photo taken. Had some sausage and yummy berry tea. Our tour guide was very helpful and kind and did thier best to make sure our experience was great. Though we didn't see northern lights loved waking in the woods to the pond and being around nature. Guide always made sure we all were okay.

The tour is very well organised, but Oren is not a nice guide at all. The tour was advanced in time almost an hour, but still we lost the moment with the most activity, because Oren keeps annoying everyone time and time again about the clothing and some unimportant details. When we arrived a lot later, the activity had dropped a lot, so little northern light was still visible. Also, it seemed to bother Oren that my wife - which is a professional photographer - didn't want to use his settings. We also got a hard remark about the fact that my wife had to use her flashlight to setup her camera (she needed to do that for 5 minutes to adjust the settings at the beginning of the shoot). But the rest of the night Oren disturbed my wife's photographing with his flaslight, which stayed on the whole time, without interruption. When we wanted to move further away from the group (because of the light) it was forbidden. And than he started to play with bigger lights to shoot some portret pictures of all the people. We payed double cost (according to most organisations) to higher our chances to see northern light, not to have portret pictures taken in the dark with light effects. One good point, Oren had us stay till midnight (he didn't bother to stay a little longer) and at 23h30 we finally got some northern light after all. Just regretfull that Oren's flashlight is visible in every picture we took (shutter speed was 30 to 60 seconds). When afterwards Oren explained that his pictures can be purchased I understand why he didn't want my wife to take her professional pictures, or why these pictures should best faulter. But Oren forgets that we allready payed 250 Euros to have 4-5 hours of expedition time for the both of us. Selling pictures should be a nice extra for those who are interested, but should not ruin the whole experience for everyone. On top, Oren is very arrogant and unfriendly to people. We were 8 people and he asked the same people four times where they were coming from... A little empathy is mandatory for a guide, unless it's for a free museum tour.

Dear Rudy, Thank you for your feedback and joining our Northern Lights tour. For me it seems that you have had very personal issue with our guide Oren who has been one of the most liked guides in our team and have received nothing but positive feedback over this winter. It is very sad for me to learn that you have felt such a way on a tour that has been otherwise great and very well organized. I feel that booking your place on small group adventure (with total 8 people) as your wife is professional photographer might be an issue here, as you have clearly been annoyed by other people and the things that are happening around you. If we would have known this beforehand, we would have definitely recommended a private tour for you, on which your wife will get all the attention and there is nothing around you to disturb her. With proper communication, this could have been easily avoided as we always recommend private tour for every professional photographer joining our tours. I will let our guide Oren to answer your feedback, as you have brought this issue very personal level in your feedback. Oren's answer: First of all I must say I was surprised and got hurt personally from your review, and I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart that this was your experience from our tour. I experienced things differently and so did the rest of the group - I got good reviews from the very same tour. I think that with proper communication between your wife and me, your bad experience that you described would have been solved already during the tour right away. I've been working in the guiding field for more than 16 years and I never got such a review like the one you left. You wrote a very detailed review so I will try to address the things you mention. About clothing and equipment we provide in our office before going out for tours and expeditions - safety is always number one in all our activities. In the arctic there is extreme conditions and temperatures can drop rapidly, so having warm thermal overalls, gloves, hats and boots and woolen socks to keep the body warm to avoid hypothermia and frostbites is very important. For some guests there is better clothing already when they arrive and for some there is not enough clothing. As a team we need to be patient and wait for all the guests in the group to be ready for the journey. Same with extra equipment we provide for the photographing like tripods for cameras and smartphones as well as rental cameras. About asking our guests about their camera settings: Not all our guests are professional photographers, and one of the main service we provide in our photography tours is to help the guests to set up their cameras and take photographs of the northern lights on their own. I'm very sorry if your wife got offended by the night photography tips I gave her. About light disturbing in the night photography: I always recommend all the participants of the group to take a good distance from each other, so that we will not be in front of each other. On the location we have been and like in all the other private locations we have, there is very wide and open space for photographing. This is one of the biggest advantages to be in a small group on a private location and not supporting mass tourism. Indeed, sometimes we still need to communicate with each other so that we will not disturb each other with lights while photographing. If we are too near to each other or the angle of the camera is including your neighbor photographer, in this case we always communicate. Your wife went quite far, and I asked her several times if everything is ok and didn’t hear complaints. Part of the service we provide is also photographing people with the northern lights, I understand and respect that some people will not want to be in front of the camera, but in order to photograph the rest of the group, the guide photographer must use flashlight in order to focus the camera to the face of the model and also to use flash. But as I said before, one of the main targets of this tour is that our guests themselves will take pictures of the northern lights with their own cameras, and the guide will do EVERYTHING to help them to get good photos. In this case I failed with the communication with your wife and for this I’m very sorry. Even though, as I said, I did try to communicate with her in the field and did ask if everything is going well. About moving away from the group, the truth is the opposite what you mentioned. As I said, I’m encouraging to take a big distance from each other. You might refer to a guidance I gave when we arrived to a location, that I don’t recommend going too far on the lake, because in this area there was about 20-30 cm of cold water on the top of the ice, so in order to not get your feet wet and cold we give information about the surroundings. You and your wife were in the opposite direction. About your sentence I wanted your wife pictures to fail, I must say I got really hurt, because the main task we have is that our guests will get good pictures with the equipment they have, and for this we put lots of concentration and effort every night. I must say, I did try many times to communicate with your wife (we both talked English), and I felt she rejected my offer for help. And about the pictures that we take for our team members with our own cameras, they are free of charge! It is included on the price of the tour. If some guests want the highest quality, original versions of the pictures in order to have a large prints, then they can pay extra to get the maximum quality pictures. This way we respect the professionalism of each of our photographer. But pictures we provide free of charge from the tour are in good quality for social media and small prints. And about your last sentence, I will not answer directly to what you wrote, I would just say it is not appropriate to have this kind of personal attack in a review. I would address to the reason you wrote it, that I probably asked a few times where are you from, as I said before, safety in the tour is number one, and when a guide needs to drive on icy roads in the dark, with reindeers that might appear on the road, and to think also about the weather, locations and to give useful informative information about the northern lights and how to chase them, sometimes, not all the information said in the car is being recorded in the memory, especially if the guide have attention deficit disorder like me (-: I must say, I have a very different experience from what you described, because me and your wife were talking in the car about her being professional photographer and we had a very nice and positive conversation about different aspects of real estate photography and many other subjects. After all this I find this personal attack very weird. Finally, I want to say that I apologize from the bottom of my heart for your experience, I think it would look different with better communication. I wish you and your wife all the best. Oren.

We changed our date from 7/11 to 9/11 ourselves having reviewed the weather forecast and hearing that other companies have cancelled their tours. During the tour, the moment we sat in the van, the tour guide told us that it’s gonna be challenging to see aurora that night. Prior to the night I sent a message to the tour agent, what gonna happen as the weather forecast was bad, and she “reassured” me that we will still take good night photography. I am sure the company fully understand customers book for the tour not for some night photos, but the northern light. The way the tour guide say it first thing during the trip sounds to me that they already know it’s little chance anyway, but they would rather not cancel the trip so that they can fully exploit the consumers’ hope for business profit. There was another pair of poor couple who been on the trip with them on 7/11 where they couldn’t see anything, and they rebooked onto our date to be disappointed again. I wonder why other companies have the conscience to cancel trips on bad weather, they cant.
And our tour guide is not passionate with aurora at all. He kept saying about how he’s not a northern light guy as he’s seen too many times and he's more into snowmobile and hope we can book into his tour. The website says professional photography, but I don’t think this guide has any professionalism in it. After 5 hours of sitting in the car, we went down once to take picture of a herd of reindeers, and drove back to 10 mins away from rovaniemi, on a lake with light pollution to take pictures just so that they can fulfil their promise to take night picture. And it’s just one spot by the lake he took us, each couple take 3 pics with no background and we left. When we ask if the picture was nice his comment was “yea. I don’t know. Maybe”
250 pounds in total for two of us to be picked up a little further from Santa Claus village, one sausage and some hot juice, 5 hours of squeezing in the car and some “professional pictures”. This all can be saved if the company is actually professional enough to not to allow the trip to happen if there is close to no hope. Wasted a good night in Finland. Definitely would not recommend.

First, I would like to offer a sincere apology for the negative experience you have had on the Discover the Northern Lights tour. Our goal is to provide outstanding service and create positive memories for our guests, regardless of the weather conditions on the night of your tour. We have clearly not reached this goal, so instead of giving excuses we would like the opportunity to respond to your review and make sure your points are addressed and rectified on future night tours. We run only small-group photography tours (max 8 guests) , and this includes all types of photography, both day and night-time. On the night tours, our focus is on capturing images of the Northern Lights. Sometimes, even a perfectly clear night may end without auroral activity becoming visible. For this reason, we offer to take photos of the surroundings, the stars and of our guests to capture all of the experience, and we know that for many receiving a photo of themselves in a winter setting can also be important. Night photography is even an opportunity for our photography guides and guests to work together to create unique and memorable photographs. To prepare for each Discover the Northern Lights tour we examine in detail the weather forecasts from several sources, compare the data and form a plan for the night including the route, the stops we make and the timing of the tour. Because we only take up to 8 persons on any tour and we use small minivans, we can travel longer distances to the direction we believe gives the best chance to see clear skies and observe the Northern Lights. We apologise for the guide’s comments that have clearly brought your mood down, and soured the expectations for what should have been a positive experience of hunting for the Northern Lights. We take our mission seriously, and thanks to the time we spend preparing for our tours, we have a high rate of success even on nights with challenging weather. We at the Beyond Arctic team feel sad that our way of running the tours felt like exploitation for profit to you – but we are confident in our experience and ability to reach clear skies and see auroras even in difficult conditions and have done so many times. For this reason, a full cancelation or change of date of the tours is in our discretion and does not happen often but only when we truly see it as necessary. This tour has also been discussed with your guide. His professional background includes a long experience in outdoor guiding, such as snowmobiling and photography. Our guide felt there was a conversation about snowmobiles in general during the tour, and he wanted to share his experiences with you. It was not meant to seem like he has no passion for Northern Lights or photography, or that the lacks professionalism in either. After all, these are the main criteria on which we select our employees. The photography equipment we use is also of professional standard and allows capturing photos in detail and quality not possible otherwise. The impression that there was no enthusiasm for the Northern Lights tour is really regrettable and not at all how he feels about his work. His recommendations for other activities should not be a measure of his commitment to his current work. He is also highly valued by our guests and other team members, but he has acknowledged your comments and views and we as a team will strive to improve on our performance in this regard. Here at Beyond Arctic, we understand and respect the high expectations that are placed on our guides, whom we encourage to let their experience and personalities show during the tours, without compromising the goal of guiding about Northern Lights and taking photographs. The guide on this tour has been driving a long time and for the most part of the tour, this is true. Unfortunately, this time it resulted in a night without Northern Lights even after traveling a long distance. We understand your disappointment in this regard, but it must be noted again, that without a plan on where to go looking for a clear sky, there would be no chance of seeing anything at all. Many times, this approach has been rewarded with views of the auroras even from behind the clouds. We are not seeking to give excuses, but to explain why the guide has made the decisions he made. We even offer discounts to returning guests, who may have not seen the Northern Lights on their first try, or simply want to go again. Thank you also for the feedback about the guide not showing the pictures to his guests, and making sure everyone is happy with the photos he is producing. This is something that we can and should improve going forward. We are very sorry you had a bad experience with us, but we also thank you for taking the time to point out where we could have done better and will do better in the future.

The Northern Lights Tour was a dream experience and we saw the aurora from the centre of a frozen lake. It was incredible and our guide Juhani was fantastic, full of knowledge and enthusiasm and we drove through some bad weather to clear skies because he knew exactly where to go. We had a fire and hotsnacks which kept us going in the freezing cold. When the sky exploded it was miracle of nature and more than worth the wait. Absolutely life enhancing day !

We can highly recommend the Northern Lights Photography Tour with beyond arctic. They definitely go the extra mile finding northern lights. We started in the office where we got equipped with warm clothes and then started our tour. As we weren’t successful at the first spot, our tour guide Oren went further out of the city where we walked to a private place with a Tipi. He made campfire to keep everyone warm and to grill sausages (even vegan). After warming up, eating sausages and drinking hot blueberry juice the northern lights finally appeared. Oren took pictures of all the participants with northern lights and gave advices how to capture them by your own camera or phone. On the way back and forth Oren explained us all about the natural phenomenon and shared his knowledge in an easy-to-understand language including all relevant details. You could feel how enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable he is. At all times he made sure meeting the needs of every single group member thus everyone felt comfortable. We really enjoyed this exciting experience and want to thank Oren for all his efforts!

It was the perfect experience to chase the Northern lights.
Our guide, Ryan, is really passionate about sharing his knowledge and making sure the group has the best time.
Even though we were lucky enough to see the northern lights right when we arrived on the spot, we stayed for a few more hours in case we could see more.
He put us in a teepee with a fire so we were not too cold and kept checking on the sky.
I highly recommend Beyond Arctic for their professionalism (knowing that we were with people that night who had done the same kind of tour the previous night with other guides and were not satisfied at all)
Thank you this magical moment ✨️

This is the one thing you need to do in Rovaneimi. Knowledgeable guides at Beyond Arctic are willing to travel long distances in search of Northern Lights across Finland and Sweden. Other companies will load you onto big buses and maybe go to one or two spots. Beyond Arctic’s Northern Lights Tour offers a more intimate and more personalized experience. Being new to this, I didn’t realize the science behind it. The guides here use weather apps and data from NASA to pinpoint the ideal time to go hunting for the lights. But the best part is the guides are also great photographers capturing images of you and the Aurora Borealis to take home. If you don’t have your own winter gear, Beyond Arctic has snow suits, gloves, boots, etc. Get ready for a fun night. The whole group is great but ask for Ryan.

This was such an amazing night. Ryan our host was soooo good! Ryan had done his homework and knew exactly the best spots to go, once we found a clearing in the clouds he showed us how to set our cameras up for the best pictures of the northern lights. Plus he also took pics of the entire group which were shared afterwards too.
All equipment you could possibly need, including boots, apparel, tripods, head torches, drinks and food were all provided. A really great quality, fun and interactive tour.
We’ll done ryan and then team 👍🙏🏼

Me and my wife went for the Northern lights tour. Our guide was Juhani and we are well pleased by his services. He is a knowledgible, professional and a great guide. He didn't leave any stone unturned and drove all the way close to the Sweden border away from light pollution. Though the sky was clear but there was no activity so we couldn't spot Aurora's. Juhani took some great photos and we enjoyed grilling sausages over fire. Beyond Arctic is a professional company and we would like to highly recommend it.

Yesterday we went to chase and see the Northern lights with very nice guide Maju. We were so fortunate to see it. Maju was very nice, friendly and funny, laughing all the time. We like the whole trip even though it was very cold -26 digrees. We strongly recommend this company, they provide worm shoes, clothes and also little refreshment, sausages on open fire with finish mustered. There was also katchup but Maju is mustered lover so we had to have mustered:))) kiitos, thank you so much.

We had a great experience on this trip! Had Oren as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the northern lights and helped us maximize the quality of our photos by helping us with the settings. When the lights were not strong where we were at, he took us a bit farther to see if it was more clear while other tours were going back. We ended up seeing an amazing show that lasted about 2 hours. Truly an incredible experience. We talked to several people the next day who were shocked when we said how amazing the lights were because they only went to the original location with less strong lights and went back to rovaniami just as we were going to the second location. 10/10 would recommend this trip

(Note: photos are from my own camera, but they provide photos as well taken by a professional)
