We were a family of 3 with 1 teenage child of 15 years old and we had a blast. It was one hell of an experience. The tour guide took us to the Santa claus village where we met Santa and then we rode snowmobiles to a reindeer farm and rode the reindeers on sleighs. The snowmobile and reindeer sleigh experience was amazing in the cold snow. The only hassle took place was when we all sat for lunch time I guess the seats were not booked properly for us so we had to negotiate a little for the arrangement. Other wise the tour was very nice.

We booked ourselves 3 experiences and so glad we did so with them.

1) the Aurora picnic which was excellent as the lady who was our guide did a fantastic job giving us the history and details of the Aurora phenomenon. She was very hands on setting up the camp and giving us a little picnic.

2) Full day snowmobile safari to Snow hotel - We couldn't have had a better guide, David was brilliant. His enthusiasm and confidence was infectious and he made the whole trip so enjoyable. He was extremely helpful and patient with our challenged skills on the snowmobile. The snow hotel was fabulous experience and the lunch served there was outstanding.

3) Arctic delight - Santas village and snow mobiles to reindeer farm. We were a part of a big group so had Boris and Barbara as our guides. Santas village was a delight specially for the younger ones, loads of souvenir shops and cafes to visit. The buffet lunch was average. We were then shuttled back by bus to the snow mobiles to ride over to the reindeer farm which was yet another great experience.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Safartica for fabulous experiences of the Lapland.

We came to Lapland for the first time in January 2020, 12th-15th. I booked this trip for the 14th and it was worth every penny. Rachel was our guide and she was fantastic from start to finish, it was just me travelling alone with my two sons, 3 and 4 years old. They done everything to make our trip easy and enjoyable and my youngest had fallen in love with Rachel by the end of the day. It was such a good day with amazing memories made. Thank you so much!!!!

We had a great day. Our tour guide Raul was awesome. So definitely would advise everyone to just book all your activities through safartica as we did. The guides are all very attentive. The following day we also did the aurora picnic and the husky ride. Which was guided by Hugo. We were so lucky and got to see the aurora aswell. Hugo filled us in with many informations. Many thanks to Hugo and Raul.

Hey, it's not Tahiti, so don't expect winter thrills without the chills! BUT, Santa Claus Village IS magical at Xmas time - even for an adult! You will get cold, very cold. But rug up sensibly with the safari supplied clothing, and you'll be enjoying yourself without a worry in the world. You will NEED their gloves and jackets and boots for the snowmobiling, but if you haven't snowmobiled in Finnish Lapland, at Christmas, then you haven't lived. Cross a 'must do' off the bucket list, you won't be disappointed! Our memories and photos will remain with us forever! Thankyou Safartica!

Santa Claus' village is meant to be a fun and joyful place but our experience of it was sadly marred by the sight of very mournful looking reindeer who were forced to pull sleighs in which there were tourist far too heavy or numerous for these relatively small animals to cart. Even worse, the sleighs were decorated with... none other than the skins or dead reindeer (perhaps the live reindeers' predecessors?). It's a shame that this still take place because aside from the animal exploitation here (huskies housed outside in solitary pens could be heard crying from the other side of the park) this could be a lovely place for couples, families and children. There are many fun traditional activities to take part in that do not involve cruelty towards animals (snowmobiles, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoe walks, etc) Please stop exploiting reindeer!

Dear DayTrip651610, Thank you for your review. I am a bit confused while reading your comment in our tripadvisor. We have one tour that is similar to the one you are mentioning, but there are some facts that do not match with what you wrote. Our tour is called Arctic Delight, and it is a day package which includes visit to the santa claus village with lunch, snowmobile safari to the reindeer farm and reindeer safari. During this tour, the reindeer farm that we use is NOT located in the Santa Claus Village, but we reach it, as mentioned, by snowmobile. It is approx 15km driving from the Santa Claus Village. Also you have mentioned the situation of huskies, but this tour does not include any husky related activity. Thus, I am a bit concerned if you are reviewing the right company, and especially the right tour. I will anyways take the chance to explain you some fundamentals about reindeer herding in Lapland and principles about our working environment. The reindeer herding has very old roots in our lands, and are connected with Sami culture. As you may know, Sami is the indigenous population who lives around Lapland (Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish & Russian Lapland) and try to maintain its culture alive through the years. Sami & generally lappish reindeer herders still make a living out of reindeer herding. However, this does not mean exploitation, at all. Did you know that in Lapland there are more reindeer than inhabitants? Talking about numbers, there are over 200,000 reindeer and approx. 180,000 inhabitants. Moreover, the Finnish government does protect the reindeer: in fact it maintains the population of reindeer at 200,000 in order to guarantee that the population continues to breed at a healthy rate. Moving on to some facts concerning reindeer's life style. As you may know, reindeer are semi-wild and each and every reindeer has an owner. They are free to roam wherever they want. During the summer, reindeer are set free and around October they get back to the farms and get counted, so that no reindeer are left in the forest alone during the harsh cold winters. Nowadays reindeer are indeed part of the tourism sector as they are able to offer magical and unforgettable experiences to all those people who travel to this area. On the other side, our company and the farm we are using - but the same applies to all the companies in Lapland - apply the principles of sustainable tourism. This concept has been developed during the last decades and can be defined like "the tendency of tourism to take full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities". In other words, all our efforts are directed to make optimal use of environmental resources that constitute a key element in tourism development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity of the area. All these key facts can be applied also to huskies and other animal related activities. I hope this will clarify to you a bit how we work and which principles we follows during our work. I also hope that, by knowing these key facts, you would give us a second try, and i am pretty sure you will enjoy Lapland again. With best regards, Andrea

It is a child dream to see Santa in person and this is the place to visit him. It is an hour flight from Helsinski and once you arrived in Roveinni airport, you will feel that Christmas is in the air. Santa claus village comprises of different buildings. Lots of stores for souvenirs and you can visit the Artic circle too. The tour will not be complete without visiting Santa Claus, you can have a picture taken with him but you have to pay for it, so be ready with your Euro

Okay so I have to say first of all I was a little nervous because of a couple of reviews I had read on trip advisor about safartica being late for excursions etc but I am soooo pleased to say that they were wonderful! Our tour guides were Sara and Helen, they arrived on time, were helpful and informative and really nice throughout the visit. The day itself was really great, we got to see Santa Claus quickly (a little hint get in to santa's house and in the queue quickly, that way you get lots of time for photos and free time afterwards, if we had hung back taking lots of photos outside beforehand we would have been stuck in a queue waiting to see Santa for about 1 hour or more!). Whilst seeing Santa the whole family got to talk to him and have our photos taken with him (we are british but live in Spain, he spoke English and Spanish to us and the children and then we heard french to the next family, so very authentic!). The whole thing is video recorded and you have your photos taken which you can purchase afterwards. One photo was 33 euros and the whole lot for digital download was 65 euros. All good quality!

We spent a lot of time looking around and playing in the snow. We all loved it. Dinner was at a lovely restaurant just a 5 minute walk behind santas house, it was of a hot buffet style but was of really good quality, seriously there was nothing to moan about, it wasn't rushed, it was in good settings and the food was of good quality (this was another thing i was a little worried about but really didn't need to). There were even a couple of reindeer strolling around the woodland outside the restaurant.

We then went off on a coach for ten minutes and went on the skidoos, this was great. Our youngest went in a sleigh on the back of a skidoo driven by the guides. This was a great ride, we drove for around ten minutes to the reindeer farm, then had a quick reindeer ride (must have been about 5 minutes, it was great, in my opinion this would have been nice if it was slightly longer but really no more than 15 mins needed). All the staff there were really friendly. After this we had a ceremony for entering the arctic circle, we had hot juice, cinnamon buns and a lot of information on reindeers and their cultures, which was really lovely, a little different when he is chanting but all part of the good experience. Oh this was all in front of a warm fire in a large wooden hut so you get chance to warm back up again (was around -8 outside). Then we headed back out onto the skidoo's back to the original starting point where we picked up our skidoo's for a quick change of outfit and back onto the coach again. The whole thing started at 9am (collection from hotel) to getting back around 4pm. It was a really good day and definitely worth it.

Oh we dressed in thermals, jeans /leggings and jumpers with coats on top, hats, gloves and scarves. All this was fine and good for the santa's village and then we got overalls from the Skidoo place. You definitely need the overalls at this point!

I know this is a really long review but there were so many things we were unsure of when we booked it that I thought I would make it as detailed as possible :)
