What a fantastic experience! I don't normally book "tours", preferring to do my own thing and not vacation on someone else's schedule, but being unfamiliar with Finland in general we decided to take a chance. This company was definitely the right choice for us.
Our goal was primarily to see the aurora borealis, but also to experience the nature of northern Lapland. This experience checked all my boxes - I can't really call it a "tour" because it felt more like a small group of friends, and because we never felt like we had to be here or there on a schedule.
Our wonderful guide was Darren, the perfect host! There were five of us for the four nights we were there (M-F) during the third week of Feb. 2023. We had chosen that week because it was near the new moon, so darker skies.
There are about ten cabins in a northern Lapland forest setting. The cabin we were in was built fairly recently, was quite comfortable, roomy and warm with plenty of room to fix meals (includes basic cooking equipment). Heated floors and a sauna :)
Truly awe inspiring auroras the first three nights without ever having to leave the cabin area to chase down clear skies. Weather reports called for clouds, but the skies cleared up in the evenings in time to regale us with beautiful shows.
Each evening after dinner in our cabins we met near the tower where we could climb to the top for amazing views when the aurora was putting on her display, then retreat to the kota in between to warm up by the fire, sip warm drinks and chat with others (if you want to). Darren was always there like an old friend to help with alerts, learning to take pictures with whatever camera you brought (I just used an iphone and got decent pics), sharing knowledge about the auroras, and whatever else!
During the days, you do whatever you want - we signed up to do the husky sleds and snowshoeing on two of the days, and played around the cabins at other times. And there was always your own sauna to retreat to in your cabin!
Two of us went to the husky farm with Darren so we had a truly personal experience! We LOVED seeing the dogs and seeing how eager they are to run, then learning to mush, and going out for about a 15 mile run.
Also had a lot of fun snowshoeing with Darren (four of us chose to do snowshoes) on a trail through the forest right by the cabins.
We even had a little "dinner party" with our new friends on the last evening that all were there :)
I would absolutely book with Aurora Service Tours again and of course we'd love to have Darren as our host again!

My 2nd visit to Northern Lapland with Aurora Service Tours ,I didn't think they could improve on my 1st visit ,how wrong I was !
My guide for the week was Darren (what a superstar ),great sense of humour, very knowledgeable & went out of his way to ensure the visit was a huge success .
My expectations were exceeded on arriving at the Chalets ,I was blown away to be given one of the new ones ,I loved chalet 5 but this one was like being in a 5 star hotel .Thank you so much AST ✨️
Ours was a small group ,just myself & a lass from the USA ( Ryan) & we got on immediately which made the trip even better .
Darren took us Snowmobiling, what an absolute blast...even falling off & getting stuck was great fun 😁Darren ensured we were safe all the time ...I'd thoroughly recommend this option ,zooming across a frozen lake in glorious sunshine is an incredible feeling !

We were so lucky with the lights ,2 nights gave us incredible displays (that didn't want to stop ) which resulted in Ryan & myself staying out at camp until 3.30am both mornings. Thankfully we had the Kota below the viewing tower to nip into for a quick warm up as ,at -16 ,it was a tad chilly 😳
On the other nights Darren took us out in the company minibus ,chasing clear skies for miles ...the 1st night we dipped out due to fog & heavy cloud but the 2nd night Darren kept going & got us under a short cloud break to see them dancing above us . The lights are unpredictable & not gaureenteed but AST will do everything in their power to get you under them .
I can't speak highly enough of Aurora Service Tours , Piritta in the office is friendly, efficient & very helpful throughout the booking and Darren was a 5 Star guide.
I will be back 😁

Had the most amazing time with Aurora Service Tours. We originally booked our Tour in 2020 but then Covid happened so it was a long wait to finally go on our trip and we were not disappointed!! A special mention should also be given to Piritta who was very helpful with our booking arrangements, fast to respond to our emails when we had to postpone (which we did on multiple occasions) or had any questions.

Tony was our guide and from the moment he picked us up from our Hotel in Ivalo he made us feel very welcome. Such a great guy, friendly and genuine. We did all the activities on offer, snow shoe walking, Husky adventure and Snow mobile, all of which we would highly recommend and activities considered to your fitness level. What you get from Aurora Service Tours is a unique, customised, personal service, going above and beyond what you would get from any other Tour company.

The cottages were great, very warm, comfortable, plus you had your very own sauna and open fire with plenty of logs nearby. They had everything you needed. The cottages were very tranquil, we even had reindeer roaming around outside in the pine forest which was at our doorstep, very special indeed.

Tony spent hours driving us around all week in search of the Aurora but unfortunately the weather was not kind to us with cloud cover every night out of our four night stay. On our last night Tony suggested we could stay another night as the weather looked like it was clearing the following day. We didn’t give it much thought but after looking at the weather forecast we decided to stay one more night and changed our flights in the hope of seeing the magical Aurora. What can we say but wow, wow, wow best decision we made as the Aurora came to us in all her glory, the only travelling we needed to do was walk outside the door. She stayed around for hours, we cannot believe how lucky we were to experience such a show!!! There is a Tower at the Cottages which gives you a prime viewing area to watch the Aurora and the views of the area – priceless!!!

There is also a live streaming camera on the Tower so you can view the stream from your cottage on your mobile device, so you then know when to go outside.
We would highly recommend Aurora Service Tours, in fact we wouldn’t book with anyone else. Even if we had not seen the Aurora we would still be writing this review as we had the best trip ever!!

Nothing was too much trouble for Tony – top bloke, top Tour company and top service.

Do yourself a favour and book your trip, you will not be disappointed. We will be back for sure, 100%.

P.S. The warm juice and ginger bread every night was also a highlight.

May the solar winds and the weather be favorable to you always!

Our trip to Finland was absolutely a dream come true!! I traveled with my husband, son (8 years old), and my Dad. This was meant to be a celebration for my 40th birthday, and my Dad's 70th birthday in March 2021, but instead it was postponed to March 2022. It was worth the wait. We were skeptical about getting to see the northern lights at all because the forecast was showing clouds and snow daily. We were rewarded on our first night with Aurora that spanned from horizon to horizon and danced across the sky. Tears of joy came to my eyes, as this has been a lifelong dream to see the northern lights. To some, they may not have been as colorful or vibrant as they can sometimes be, but for my family...it was PERFECT! We saw the best aurora shows from the tower. On our last night, my husband and I were on the tower by ourselves until 1:00 in the morning. If you want to see the lights, we figured you have to be willing to stay up late. In our sleepy and cold state, we came up with the saying..."Those who snora, miss the aurora!". We took our own camera, and captured amazing pictures. We were grateful to have seen the aurora 3 out of the 4 nights. Our guide was Canice, and he did a wonderful job. He was very friendly and helpful! We participated in all the day time activities. We really liked having the snowshoe walk on Tuesday, since it was near the cabins and allowed us to have more of a relaxing day. After all the traveling the 3 days prior, a relaxing day was really needed. We were lucky enough to get to do our snowmobiling while it was snowing, which was really cool and gave an extra arctic feel. The day we went dog sledding was a beautiful sunny day. Dog sledding is no joke and kind of challenging, but incredibly fun at the same time. We definitely recommend taking advantage of the day time activities. Also, there is a restaurant within walking distance from the cabin, called Deatnu, which was delicious. It has limited hours, but we recommend checking it out if it's open during your stay. As for the cabins, they were well cleaned and furnished, and the view looking over into Norway was just beautiful. We also tried out some of the sleds in the storage area, so be sure to ask your guide about these. There were just a few, and the driveway to our cabin made a perfect sledding hill. All in all, this truly was a trip of a lifetime! We were completely happy with Canice and all the hospitality from Aurora Service Tours. If an arctic trip to try to see the northern lights is on your bucket list, this is the company I would recommend!

If you're looking for your best chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis, then I highly recommend Aurora Service Tours! My husband and I elected their 3-night option in their new Asgard B cabin. Darren picked us up from Ivalo airport on Friday, drove us to a grocery nearby for us to do our shopping. We were the only ones on this tour, so our grocery stop was quick. I do suggest making a list prior of what meals you want to make so it's a quick in and out stop at the grocery. Darren informed us of what will be available in our cabin, so we didn't need to buy certain things. We then drove through Inari and up to Utsjoki. Darren showed us around our cabin and left us for the night. We unpacked and made dinner. Darren texted once Aurora showed up, so we were able to see it on our first night there. We did not plan any daytime activities there, but they have quite a few available should you want to reserve them ahead of time. We used our days to just unwind and relax. Saturday night, Darren came and got us, and we headed out in a snowstorm to Aurora hunt. We drove about 90 mins south only to look back at the live cam at camp and the clouds had cleared. We went back to camp and enjoyed the Aurora and berry juice for the rest of the night. Sunday night, we headed out again to Aurora chase. It was spectacular! We were so lucky to have seen Aurora 3 out of 3 nights in Utsjoki. Monday afternoon, Darren picked us up and we headed to Ivalo airport to catch our departure flight. Darren was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable and even though it was us the 3 of us, we had a great time! Should we ever find ourselves headed to Finland again, we'll definitely be booking this tour again!

This was the first time for us going to Lapland and it was even better than we expected.

From the booking of the trip to having to postpone due to covid, then to the day before arriving, Piritta was always there to answer all of our questions.

As for the trip itself, it was marvelous !

Canice, our guide, came to pick us up at the hotel and then time to go to the supermarket to stock up groceries for the week. After a 2 hours drive to Utsjoki we arrived at the camp and lady Aurora was there welcoming us in our cottage. What an awesome start !

We did all of the activities. The snowshoes walk in very cold weather was an experience (We highly recommend the snowsuits provided in the cabin to keep warm). We had a great time with Canice telling us stories. Canice told us it was for his first time at the front and leading us and we did not get lost so all is well ;)
We went to Norway for the dog sledding with Tana Husky. It was really fun to get to try being a musher and see all the dogs happy to run in the snow. Again very cold weather but it was definitely worth it.
The snowmobile ride was in Kaamanen with Tony. We drove on the river and stopped to get a coffee. We enjoyed it a lot. That day was warmer, only -13°C, you can tell the difference !

As for the Aurora borealis itself, we got to see it and take great pictures. We went chasing it due to cloudy skies at the camp for the 2 last nights there. One was a miss and the other one a success. Even through the clouds we could see it dancing, teasing us. Both time Canice offered us hot berry juice and cookies to warm us in the cold of the night, yummy !

Overall it was an awesome experience with Aurora Service Tours. Our guide, Canice, was very helpful and fun to be around, always in a good mood. The Whatsapp group to let us know what the planning was and if an aurora was coming was a great idea. We enjoyed the modern cabin with the sauna and tried the sauna then snow jump and so much more. 10/10 it is a success.

We would definitely recommend. You will see us again Aurora Service Tours 😊

Seeing the Aurora is magical, but very few people can say they've laid on a reindeer pelt in the remote wilderness of Lapland at 4am watching the lights dance around the stars. That's exactly what we did one evening here though.

Despite the word "tours" right there in the name, AST was instantly more like family than a tour operator. From the moment we met Darren at the airport through to him dropping us back off at the end of the trip it felt like we had arrived with friends. Darren's excitement for the Aurora and his desire to go the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed every moment of our trip really made a big difference. We had our own cabin which felt like our own little slice of luxury tucked away between the trees on the side of the riverbank, looking out towards Norway. The cabins have underfloor heating so were always warm, but we enjoyed the log burner too, and of course our own private sauna. It couldn't be a Finnish home without one...

We had booked a Husky sledding experience and a few hours of snowmobile driving as part of our trip, and Darren took us on these excursions too. Both would be highly recommended to experience both the very traditional and the much more modern way of going off-road in the snow covered wilderness of Lapland.

In the evenings Darren met us at the Kota (a small cabin with a central fire pit where you can keep warm and toast some marshmallows) before we headed out with the rest of our very small group to find a good location to see the Aurora. The camp site is actually very well located itself though and on more than one evening we didn't need to go anywhere at all, we stayed on site and used the purpose built observation tower (where the AST live stream is hosted) to see the Aurora as there was no cloud cover, and enjoyed the warmth of the Kota in between.

Despite no direct flights, and a further 2 and a half hour ride from Ivalo Airport to Utsjoki, this is by far the best short break I've ever done, it's magical up there and I can't wait to visit again.

We saw the Aurora Borealis, the first night even before arriving at camp - all thanks to Darren who expertly predicted the conditions and location for the excellent sighting. And he drove us out every night chasing the Aurora Borealis. What an amazing, exhilarating experience!!

They really make it all about the lights, and still take good care of the stay - cottages are cozy and comfortable; observation tower is an excellent bonus; and a selection of snowsuits and boots in various sizes - now that is luxury!
The integrity, and environmental ethics and consciousness 🌍 of Aurora Service Tours, matches my own.

On the fourth day of the tour, I decided to make it my personal tradition to book once a year with Aurora Service Tours.

Thank you for the lovely holiday, and a lifetime of good memories.

Our entire experience with Aurora Service tours was incredible. We spent four nights/five days in late February at the delightful cabin (really more of a luxury home) being driven around by Canice for a trip of a lifetime. It was cloudy most of the time at the cabin location, but this did not prevent Canice from driving to a different location each night where the forecast was better. We were so fortunate to see magnificent Aurora every night!

We thoroughly enjoyed the snow shoe afternoon and had a wonderful time dog sledding. Highly recommend both activities. Canice was a fabulous guide, ensuring we had such a wonderful time. Thanks Canice and Aurora Service Tours

Our guide Darren did a great job, driving us around, entertaining us, sharing stories... what a lovely time we had. I want to highly recommend both the snowmobile and dog sledding in addition to the experience of just being there, far off from society in the midst of nature and animals. And we did catch the Northern Lights, at least two days we had decent Northern Lights and relatively clear skies.

If your looking to get away away from the people, dive into nature and chase the Northern Lights with a personal guide, this is the adventure for you!
