About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jcjc19940 contributionsDefinitely recommendGreat day out! Would highly recommend. This one does the volcano hike first and then the swim in the sea / thermal pool. Our guide was very informative, which really added to the experience. The stop off for lunch was lovely, and amazing views of the caldera and islands throughout. Very good value excursion.Written 6 November 2024
- 100mlLiquids0 contributionsLovely day outWe did the 6hour tour, the itinerary was very much as described. The climb on to the top on the volcano gave spectacular view of the Caldera. The swim in the hot springs was a invigorating and you do have to be a good swimmer as the current can be strong. The return trip to Fira was along the cost of the main island. Out guide (Georgia) was very good and gave informative commentary. This boat trip was a nice break from all the climbing/trekking we did to explore Santorini.Written 30 October 2024
- TheLeonieSii0 contributionsGreat way to learn about the history of SantoriniWhat an incredible (and affordable - at least, in October), way to explore Santorini! This half-day tour was great, although I wish they were able to add an extra half hour to each stop, especially on Thirassia island. We barely had enough time to walk up the stairs to the town and have lunch. It would have been nice to have an extra half hour so we could also add in a swim in the sea. Nevertheless, no complaints :) We learnt a lot about Santorini during the tour.Written 27 October 2024
- 943maddies0 contributionsLovely but overcrowded!A lovely trip that was very much enjoyed with some lovely tour guides. However the day was boiling hot and there was no shade on the boat - the boat was VERY overcrowded and it was very confusing at the start to setermine which boat we needed to get on to. The inside area with drinks etc. had people smoking inside which was very unpleasent. Make sure you bring sunscreen and lots of water, we ended up very burnt after sitting in the direct sun the whole time. The swim at the hot spring was much needed and a relief after being in the sun, not very warm but on a hot day it was fantastic. A lovely tour but well and truly needs less people on the boat - we could barely hear what our guide was saying (and he also had to translate it into a few langauges as well) the guides were lovely.Written 20 October 2024
- Deanne A0 contributionsGreat location, friendly staffBeautiful views and very friendly staff. The AC was just barely enough but overall a very good location central to Oia for easy eating and shopping.Written 12 October 2024
- Cheryl S0 contributionsGreat day out on the Caldera. We included hotel pickup. It was fun to get out on the water. The ship was really cool. Bench style seating with tables up top where the bar was. There was shade on the lower deck and you could sit inside down there. That’s also where the bathrooms were. I forget our captains name but he was good. Lots of information about the caldera and the volcano. The sound system was clear. I hiked up the volcano but wasn’t super impressed. Nice views. Lots of rocks. But not really my thing. It was awesome to jump into the ocean at our next stop and swim to the warm (not hot) springs but it was fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Then we sailed to the island of Thirasia. We didn’t walk to the village up the hill but had an amazing meal at the restaurant that the captain recommended. Then they lowered the price of drinks, cranked the music and we sang and danced to Greek and popular favourites (YMCA, songs from ABBA, etc) while we toured along the shoreline of Oia to the port of Thira. Beautiful, fun day. It was so worth it. This one is cheap and fun.Written 9 October 2024
- deanj7000 contributionsIt was a way to get to the enticing islands in the caldera..We enjoyed overall. Pickup/drop-off was well-managed. The boat was overcrowded and managing 120 tourists takes time. Make sure to bring money or credit card, as you will NEED additional euros to get entrance to the volcano walk, island lunch and even drinking water on board. There is a minibar on the boat offering water for $1, but just one included water would be nice, as shade is tough to find on board and on-island. Bring/wear sunscreen - if you aren't at the front of the line to get back on the boat, you may be sardined on a bench in full sun. Some of the guests were showing some serious sunburn by the end of the 6 hour tour. Because of the size of the boat, the guides almost exclusively spoke over the intercom which was of poor quality and made the translation rough. This would be a much nicer tour if they set a passenger limit of 80 or less and more face-to-face interaction. Expect vaping, even in tight quarters - at least 2 of the guests were regularly lighting up and nothing was said. The "hot" springs require good imagination - if you weren't told that they were "hot", you wouldn't know..Written 7 October 2024
- KentEnglandLife0 contributionsWorth it's moneyFantastic, crew are really nice. Well worth it's money. All stops give you adequate time to do things. The volcano walk isn't bad at all. The hot Springs is fun, jump in and enjoy 20 minutes or so . Thirissa is somewhere to grab a bite to eat at the port area, there are a couple of restaurants up the top but you are walking up for around 15 mins. Nice up there but only a few restaurants. The mini market was shut when I went. The Church up here looks nice but it's up to you if you think it's worth the hike up.Written 5 October 2024
- Joyceman30 contributionsFabulous tour would recommendFabulous tour. Our Guide Ceasar was amazing. He could speak English and French as well as Greek. He had so much knowledge of the places we went to and took care of all of us expecially the walk up to the volcano. The highlight for me was seeing Sanitarani from the sea which is a incredible sight. Be warned the walk up to the volcano is for the strong and fit as my Husband's watch showed 3000 steps up and just less down, we struggled to keep up with the partyWritten 3 October 2024
- H9308REmarkw0 contributionsGreat ExperienceLovely experience, the boat spotlessly clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the experience but probably would book without the dinner as wasn’t that great, cold and the veg edible. Personally the music wasn’t to our liking more for party boat, preferred music suitable to watch a romantic sunset.Written 3 October 2024
- suesR3360TT0 contributionsTo many people on the boatBe very careful if you are not getting picked up for this trip as the details for meeting are not correct and you do not need cable car costs as you don’t use it. The boats are overly full and difficult to get any good views. The swim was very short and many were complaining about this. When you land for your free time on the island it it at the heat of the day and the walk is steep so please be aware of this.Written 30 September 2024
- 360allysonp0 contributionsWorth the money? Probably not.I’m glad that I went on this trip, even though I only gave it 3. I’d probably give it 3.5 if that had been available. The boat in the photo looks rather better than the real thing, but the boat was functional. We loved Spiros. He was the best thing about the trip. Very knowledgeable and supportive. The trip to the caldera was really worth it. We both really enjoyed that part, but the stop in the bay to eat dinner was probably a waste of time. The trip to the sulphur springs was good too but, beware, you are told that you need to be able to swim 50 metres to the springs and 50 metres back to the boat, as the boat is anchored in the sea. The food at dinner was very poor. I’m a vegetarian. There was Greek salad and some other dishes but, apart from the Greek salad, the other food was of poor standard and virtually inedible: simply vegetables that seemed as though they were previously frozen or tinned or from a prepackaged packet (including the rice). My husband isn’t a vegetarian and did eat the meat dishes. He said they were only lukewarm. The bread was stale. The wine was of poor quality. Other than that, the ship seemed to be full of smokers, including the crew, and it was very difficult to find somewhere without a smoker (apart from inside the ‘lounge’).Written 30 September 2024
- greentree210 contributionsPacked in like sardinesGood value, interesting sights. The boat was packed with people which made things uncomfortable. No safety information (ie life jacket location, etc) of any kind.Written 28 September 2024

You can line up to board the boat half an hour before the trip starts. Seats on the boat are first come, first served. We will first go to the Volcano Park (at your own expense, you can only pay in cash). A tour guide will take you there. The whole journey takes about an hour. It is recommended to bring your own large bottles of water, because the weather is hot and you need to replenish water, and the drinks sold on the boat are more expensive. expensive. Next we will go to the volcanic hot springs. Since the water in the hot spring area is shallow, the boat will stop about 20 meters offshore, allowing tourists to jump off the boat and swim over. Sponge floats are provided to make swimming in the sea safer. You can feel that the temperature of the hot spring is about 30 degrees. You can stay there for about half an hour, and the boat will sound the whistle to remind tourists to get on the boat and return. It is recommended to change into your swimsuit first, because there are only two toilets on the boat. It will take a lot of time to change clothes if you queue up, and you won’t even have much time to play in the water.

From Kamari we moved to Fira for the volcano excursion. At the old port you can go up and down by cable car (cost 6 euros each way), on foot from the staircase (588 steps), on the back of donkeys.
We hadn't booked but had no problems. By arriving at the port a little earlier than the departure time you can easily buy the ticket and drink the coffee. We chose the excursion starting at 11.30am and lasting 3 hours: walk on the volcano and stop for a swim at the hot springs. Cost 25 + 5 euros for the guided tour lasting 1 hour. The route is for everyone but we recommend wearing closed shoes as it is easy to understand that you are not walking on a beaten road. It is recommended to bring water with you. Very interesting visit, harsh but beautiful panorama, seeing the fumaroles makes you understand that the Nea Kameni volcano is "dormant" but still active.

This was a larger group tour which is meant for a either more physically active person or the young. It was great for me and my husband we are 33 & 36. The tour guide was fun and informative he let you know 100% in advance what your getting yourself into. We stopped by The hot springs which you do have to swim to they gave us pool noodles and since the water is so dense with salt you are very boyant. It is more like a mineral cool bath the springs are not hot. Which also was fine for us. The boat left on time and was pretty full. It had a bar on top with reasonably prices items. (I'm from CA, USA so everything is reasonably priced). I would recommend the tour to someone you wanted to see the volcano and is moderately in shape. Bring water we brought 2 1 liter bottles which was just enough.

We took the 3 hour volcano & hot springs tour. We arrived at the old port via the cable car from Thira which is a good option as long as there are not too many cruise ships in port that day. There’s an app you can download to see how many are in. The old port is used to bring cruise ship passengers to Santorini & the vast majority go up the cable car 36 at a time every 10 minutes. Otherwise it’s a 30 min walk up/down the steep caldera in the hot sun or a donkey ride.
The tour boat was nice & motoring in the waters beneath the caldera was very picturesque. The boat had water & drinks on board for purchase. We also had a very knowledgeable guide on board who conducted the tour.
First was the volcano hike up to the active crater. Time allowed is 30mins each way & there is an entrance fee of €5 per cash person when you arrive. The 30 minute hike up is very brisk & steep on uneven surfaces so a very good level of fitness & stability is required. Take water & wear sensible hiking footwear. When you get there the landscape & views are lovely but there is not open crater or lava to see, just the occasional wisp of steam. You can put your hands inside a little cave to feel the heat.
Next is the swimming trip for 30 minutes at the hot springs. The boat stays about 50m away so the springs need swimming to. Take the offer of a pool noodle - it makes the whole experience easier. The regular water temp is quite cold - around 19 degrees Celsius - and the “hot” springs warm the surrounding area up 3 or 4 degrees. Warm springs is a better description. Don’t wear your best new swimwear as the sulphur water may stain them. Take your own towel.
All up it was a worthwhile experience for the price paid.

As with every review you will read good and bad about this excursion. My husband and I just did this today 8/22/23 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were warned about doing the 2:30pm trip because of the heat but I think the heat is an issue this time of year no matter when you go. Just be prepared! Closed toe workout shoes are a must! Don’t wear sandals! . And be prepared to wait in line over 2 hours to catch the cable car down to the boat or be adventurous and walk down the 600 steps in about 30 minutes. Take lots of water and wear a hat and enjoy the adventure. Georgia was our guide from start to finish and she was exceptional! The boat ride to the volcano is only about 15 minutes but enjoyable. The hike to the top of the volcano is a little underwhelming but Georgia’s enthusiasm and knowledge made it all worth it. It’s hot and rocky but the views from up top are worth it! And then on to the hot (more like warm) springs are a must! Don’t be a wussy and stay on the boat. Dive in and cool off and enjoy!! Wear a black swimsuit as the sulphur could stain lighter colors. We were back at port in exactly 3 hours and decided to enjoy a nice traditional Greek meal and sunset from below. Taking the cable car back up at 8:00pm was no problem at all with no lines. We highly recommend this trip and it’s well worth the minimal cost!

Really enjoyed this boat trip in general. Staff were all really helpful and gave clear instructions for departure times at each stop. There were a few pushy customers on the boat wanting the best seats and the queue to get on initially was a little chaotic.
I’d also say that the bus transfer was pretty bad. Collection from Perissa not too bad (other than having to wait to board the boat in extreme heat and amongst boat/coach fumes upon arrival). The collection home was completely disorganised. No signs on any of the buses and it was a complete free-for-all. The driver told us we weren’t on his list but it was the correct coach. After persuading him using a map of where we wanted to go, he let us on but then the coach sat and waited for 45 mins before it left.
I’d recommend making your own way to the port.

The boat trip to the volcano tour and visit was excellent. The guide gave excellent and clear information about the volcano and history of the explosions. This part of the tour was excellent.
The visit to swim in the hot springs is NOT as advertised. The instructions to swimmers were clear and if you were not a strong swimmer they did not want you to leave the boat. A gentleman wanted to use a swim noodle for additional safety and was handed one once he was in the water. He was then basically told that because he wanted to use a noodle he must not be a strong swimmer so was instructed to immediately return to the boat. This part of the tour is totally misleading; you will not be able to swim to the hot springs if you want the reassurance of the pool noodle that is referenced in the 'what's included'. This meant that I did not get the chance to swim to the hot springs, because, like the gentleman, I wanted the reassurance that the noodle would have given me as I can swim well, but pool and sea swimming are not the same. The tour needs to be amended to mislead potential clients into thinking they will be able to use a pool noodle. Several other people appeared to be wanting to use the noodles and we all lost out on that part of the tour. Very poor show.
My suspicion is that the death the month before of a participant on this trip (see reviews dated May 2024) has made them unprepared to make suitable amendments to the safety of their clients, so they just bar clients from taking part and have not correctly described that part of the trip.

Firstly it’s totally worth it to get out on the water, hike up to Volcano (hard hike in heat for seniors and those out of shape) and swim in the hot springs cove for only 25 euro. We didn’t want a 125 plus euro, 6 hour booze cruise and food, just an afternoon adventure. You will disappointed if your expectations are flowing lava and hottub temperature hot springs. The “hot” springs are just warmer water created by the sulphur bubbling up in the cove. The strong swimmer warning is most likely for people who really don’t know how to swim as you can’t touch the bottom until you get in the cove. It’s an easy swim especially with the noodles! It’s a great afternoon compared to walking shoulder to shoulder with hoards of cruise ship people. We did the 2:30 sailing and there was a long line up at the cable car (cruise ship folks heading home!) so walked down. The donkey poo is dried up and swept, it’s not like tons of fresh stinking piles of it. If you’ve been to a barn before you’ll be fine. Took us about 20 minutes, fairly monotonous down steps (bad knees might be an issue). On way back it was 5:30pm and empty (cruise people all at first sitting of dinner on board!) first ones in line and up. It was a fun experience for my wife and I 62 and 60 (we had just come from the morning chaos of Oia, so a nice change of pace).

If you want a much too crowded activity on a small boat, this activity is only worth the $30 without more. Also the visit was supposed to start at the volcano to end at the thermal baths, but they started with the thermal baths so hiking the volcano soaking is very unpleasant. Also be advised that to reassemble the boat there is only a small ladder then difficult for older or bulky.

What an amazing place - how could anything be better than a boat ride through the Santorini caldera, a hike on the volcano, and a swim in the ocean hot springs? The answer: There is a lot of improvement that can be done.
I don't understand with such an amazing place, that there are not better options for travelers who want to see these things! The only option to hike on the volcano was for a group tour (only $28). That is a great value but it is not a great experience.
The main problem is the donkey trail. The only way to get to the tour boat if you are not on a cruise ship is to walk up and down the donkey trail or wait in the 2 hour line each way for the cable car. These volcano tour companies should find a way to allow travelers staying on the island (not on a cruise ship) pay a little more and not have to walk through donkey s*** to see the Santorini caldera by boat.
What could have been an amazing experience (a boat ride through the caldera, a swim in the volcano springs, and a hike on the volcano) ended up being our worst experience in Greece - a hot slippery hike through donkey s*** in 90+ degree weather to meet a crowded dock full of cruise ship passengers to take us on a crowded boat to a crowded volcano and a crowded swimming site. What a wasted opportunity that could have been an amazing experience!

How do you get there from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship port? Is it walkable? I know you have to take the cable car, but how do you get to that?

El volcán está en Thirasia? Se visita Thirasia? Es que hay excursiones que lo incluyen y lo mencionan y otras que no… y no se si es lo mismo.

We went by boat from Fira. I think this is the only place to get a tour to the Volcano island

Can we stay in the boat if we don’t swim and don’t do the volcano walk?
Written 22 August 2022
You can go on the boat ride for the ride and see the veiws, but there really would be no point in doing that as you can probably see great views from anywhere on Santorini by the ocean without paying

Arriving tomorrow morning on a cruise. Where do you get on this tour in relation to where you get off from the cruise tenders?
Thanks

We picked up the boat in the harbour where the cruise ships dock.

Can life jackets be provided? My husband and I are poor swimmers but we love thermal water

They do offer pool noodles. The life jackets they have are for emergencies. You can not swim in them.- They keep your head up and out of the water. Maybe you can bring your own?

Although from my restricted mobility, I use a stick, I will not be able to visit the volcano but can you please advise how you access the boat from the sea for swimming. I am a competent swimmer but need clarification on this. Thanks

Is this tour closed during off season? We are visiting March 9-11 and don't see any availability until March 15

It might be that they are closed. You could try booking directly on Caldera's Boats website, which is what I did. You could also call to check.
