Exceptional day tour from Porto with our guide Diogo. Communication was on point from the word go with Diogo messaging us before we were picked up. Walking the board walks through the national park was breathe taking, culminating in the suspension bridge over the gorge. We were then taken in the mini bus to a local restaurant for a fantastic steak meal with as much wine as you could drink. It was a small group and we had a lot of laughter at the restaurant. All in all a trip to remember 😃

We booked the Paiva Walkways tour for our first full day in Portugal after arriving from California. It was an excellent antidote for jet-lag! The Walkways themselves are a remarkable piece of engineering, and the pathway is beautiful. Our guide Diogo Teixeira was very attentive, and joined us for half of the walk. The tour included a "lunch" that was a Sunday afternoon feast in Alvarenga at a local restaurant serving beef from the Arouquesa cows, a breed that is raised in the area and available at only a few locations in the country. We shared family style a dish that was slow roasted in the oven, and then another that was grilled. Looking back on the meal after two weeks in Portugal, it was one of the best meals (certainly one of the best chocolate cakes ever, the home-made Brigadeiro cake) from a trip full of delicious treats.

Though we enjoy the city of Porto, nothing can replace the experience of seeing the gorgeous foliage and waterfalls outside the city. Though it was raining, the walkways made this hike quite manageable and our guide was very fun and helpful.

The lunch afterwards was delicious (with lots of wine) and the restaurant was more than willing to make dietary substations,

My adult son wanted to go on this excursion, and I’m so glad I listened to him!

Our host, Diego, was engaging, friendly, fluent in English, informative, entertaining, and engaging. The scenery and hike was everything we were seeking. It was breathtakingly beautiful. The setting in the river gorge is spectacular. The river is beautiful. The suspended bridge was a thrill. Lunch was a small wonderful restaurant called Abrigo da Pava and was delicious - one of two best meals we ate while traveling in Portugal. This trip was one of our best experiences in Portugal.

We had such a wonderful day on this tour. We were thinking of renting a car and walking the Paiva staircase independently, but I'm so glad that we took this tour instead. Our guide, Fonzi, was wonderful and kind and so informative. Taking the tour with a small group made the walk even more interesting, as we got to meet some new people. And the lunch after the hike was perfect. We never would have found such a charming local restaurant in a tiny little town and tried such delicious local dishes on our own. It was a wonderful experience and we really recommend it! A couple of things to be aware of: it will mostly likely not be possible to go on the suspension bridge if you choose this option, as even if you tried to buy tickets for that separately, you have to commit to a particular entry time and you can't know with this version of the tour exactly what time you will get there. Also, in case you have not read the details of the hike: there are nearly 600 stairs up and 600 more down, so it can be tiring; we had a 77-year-old in our group, and she made it but she was very tired!

We made the day trip to paiva walkways incl the Arouca bridge.
It was a beautiful experience and our coach João gave us his really good knowledge of the geology, flora and fauna . He really knows the Habitat cos he is originally from Arouca.
At the end of the tour we had a really delicious lunch in a small restaurant in a village , where we ate really the best meat of the whole trip in Portugal. We highly recommend Detours for the kindness, fun and caring way they where with us !
If I come back to Porto next time , I will definitely book another tour with them .

The 80 minutes drive to Paiva River Trail was a warm welcome
to the group and landscape of inner Porto. With the explanations of nature, enviroment and traditions Kevin opend the entrance to a marvelous peace of landscape, that can be called an impressive canyon with a powerful river.
All along this 8km wooden walkway you feel save, but forced with steps that you can manage with good walking experience. I did it on january, and allow myself to recommend it for all over the year. The topping was a meal in one of the famous regional restaurants. Thank you for this perfect day !

Myself and my four sisters had a wonderful experience walking the Paiva walkways and the bridge last Sunday with detours. I would highly recommend the tour and our guide Diogo was excellent. The lunch we had in a local restaurant after was delicious. Diogo had informed the owners that it was my sisters birthday and had cooked a birthday cake for us before we arrived. The whole day was such a great experience. Marie and sisters from Ireland

The walkways are a beautiful outing! It is definitely best to book this adventure with Detours as they will pick you up at your door, drive you to the area for a stop in a lovely café for coffee and treats, then bring you to the starting point. The Guide then drives the van to the other end of the walkway, parks, and walks in to meet you at the halfway mark to accompany you for the rest of the walk. You are then taken to a fantastic restaurant in a small town for a large and fabulous meal! Definitely worth the price and, considering that getting there otherwise would involve buses, taxis, and a tremendous amount of coordination, the best option!
