      Excellent
Amazing trip. We were lucky with the weather. Our guide was fantastic....helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Boat pilot was also great and between them they knew exactly where to find dolphins. We felt so privileged to see 3 separate groups feeding and took some fab pics. Really well organised and a must do recommendation 😁

Whales, views and a monkey saved!
Was a great trip, saw pilot whales, but the outing was made exceptional by the great crew. Extremely informative, helpful, professional and all blessed with a sense of humour. After the whales we went along some of the coastline, where again their knowledge was imparted with just the right amount of information without being bombarded with facts and figures. They even excelled at saving a small wooly monkey tossed overboard by its no doubt curious 5 year old owner, whose tears soon stopped as our intrepid crew turned the boat around and fished out his toy. A happy ending to a very enjoyable trip.

      Brilliant experience
These guys are so pleasant to be with and do everything they can to make sure that you have a great trip. They also take real care not to encroach on the sea life’s natural existence and stay well back/don’t stay too long near them. They do the very best they can to help you see as much as possible. We were really fortunate to see bottle nose and common dolphins, pilot whales and sperm whales which was incredible. This is not always the case, so you just need to go with the flow. The whole team were great from the first time I made contact on the phone to all the staff at the kiosk and on board. We felt really safe and well treated, despite the fact that these guys do this trip every day. A really worthwhile trip - thanks so much.

      FANTASTIC
What a FANTASTIC experience! Certain factors were luck- a beautiful day, calm seas, and sightings of sperm whales, pilot whales, bottlenose & common dolphins- what wasn’t luck was the knowledge and professionalism of the crew, the obvious respect & love for the natural world & its creatures, and the sheer joy they share in celebrating these beautiful animals. Loved every minute of this experience!

      Quite a good tour
The tour started well, and we saw a pod of dolphins, but after that no more wildlife. It seemed a bit like the crew thought they had done what was required and didn't have to worry for the more than 2 hours that remained of the trip. But it was nice to see the beautiful island of Madeira from the sea!

      Awesome boat trip
It was a nice big catamaran that fits a lot of people. Very nice staff. We saw bunch pilot whales & then rode round the coast. In the end they also gave us a description about the whales we saw, a little biology lesson, which was very interesting.

      New Years Eve Fireworks cruise
Overall it was a good experience! The positive All the staff and crew were very friendly and polite starting at the ticket office where we received a surprise bag with gifts and a champagne free voucher to be redeemed later on the boat. The price of the drinks were also acceptable. The little sightseeing tour to Praia Formosa and back was unexpected and very welcomed! The negative Hope the owners take this as constructive criticism. The boat was clearly full/crowded. I know New years eve on Madeira is always on absurd high demand in whatever tours available, the nearby boats at the Marina were all suffering from the same issue. At the end of the day is all about the money and the more tickets sold the better. This can impactive negatively guest experience (especially if you have watched several fireworks at Madeira before). It could have been a perfect trip instead of only a good trip to watch the fireworks. We were luckily to secure the last available seating spot but I saw guests arriving afterwards that spent all 2 hour trip standing still. After watching fireworks in Madeira for all my life this was the one I felt more detached of what was happening during the show. When the fireworks started if you were one of the lucky ones that arrived early and managed to get a spot at the front of the boat you could get a full panorama view, for the others like us you only got partial view... With a less crowded boat guests could have roamed around more freely, wasn't the case... Suggestions: Owners could increase the price a bit and diminish the available tickets? Not sure if for security reasons or because of the crowded boat traffic the catamaran could have been closer to the shore and get a more immersive/sound experience of the fireworks.

      Amazing day whale watching
Great trip out. The sea was quite calm and we saw a pod of pilot whales. It was great and the crew treated the animals with so much respect as we observed them with the engine off. They swam past quite close. It was fantastic. A must to do whilst here and with such a dedicated crew for the marine animals and very knowledgeable . Make sure you take a warm hoodie as its quite chilly out at sea.

      A Wonderful Whale Watching Experience
We had a fantastic time on the catamaran whale watching tour in Madeira this morning. The crew was friendly and professional, ensuring everyone felt safe and comfortable. António, (I believe it was) who explained the animals we saw, was great—he provided lots of interesting information in a way that kept things engaging without being overwhelming. The boat was lovely, and the weather couldn’t have been better, making for a truly enjoyable day. We saw some incredible wildlife, and the whole experience was both exciting and relaxing. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madeira!

      Brilliant , so lucky.
We were so lucky in so many ways, the day was sunny and calm, very knowledgable staff guided the lovely catamaran (much more stable than most boats) to an area where we saw 3 pods of bottle-nosed dolphins and pilot whales ( closer to dolphins but named whales as they are bigger) . These wonderful creatures were all around the boat, came really close. We were only allowed to stay with each pod for 10 mins so not to stress them. They were so relaxed and such a joy to view, we were completly captivated. Thank you all so much.

      Great tour
Fantastic tour. Very nice new catamaran with 2 WCs. Lots of seating in shaded or sunny areas. Very helpful to me with my walker. Saw 2 separate pods of pilot whales but no dolphins. Great sunny weather, terrific crew. Loved it.

We were worried that our cruise ship may not arrive on time at 09h00 as the Magic Dolphin Catamaran trip we had booked required us to report to their office at 09h30. We calculated that the walk from the cruise ship around the harbour to their office would take 30 minutes as we had slow walking pensioners in our group. We contacted Magic Dolphin a few weeks ahead of our trip and they advised that, as we had notified them, we could arrive up to 09h45 instead.
In the event the cruise ship arrived on schedule BUT, to our utter dismay, they had trouble fixing the gangway thus delaying disembarkation for at least 15 minutes. However, we need not have worried, immediately outside the gangway were several taxis and a large one took our party of 7 to the Magic Dolphin in a few minutes for 8 Euros and we arrived in good time.
Once on board we had the best experience ever! The electric ECO catamaran does not give off the usual exhaust fumes experienced on diesel boats and we had plenty of room to spread ourselves on comfortable seats or lay the netting at the front. We were given details of lifejackets to ensure our safety. Our skipper was very experienced and after spotting a few individual bottle-nosed dolphins, eventually found a pod of 5 or 6 who swam along with us on the bow wave for some considerable time. This which was a wonderful experience for all of us, particularly our 7 year old grandson. There were drinks and snacks, as well as toilets, available on board and the crew could not have been more friendly and informative. They provided a great deal of information about the dolphins and whales in the local waters and it was abundantly clear that they cared very much about them and the environmental ecology generally.
We all really enjoyed our 2.5 hours on the water in safe and informative hands and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this trip to everyone.

This was a fabulous experience! We sailed in the morning approximately in the direction of the Desertas islands (I think the destination may be different each time). The catamaran is very impressive, just like on the photos. It's quite spacious and comfortable.

About 1 hour into the sailing we were able to stop and watch a pair of pilot whales. I even made some photographs of them from a reasonable distance. After some 30 minutes more a sperm whale was spotted, but quickly went into a deep dive. I was minding our toddler at the moment and the whale disappeared by the time I could take a look. But my wife says she saw the whale splashing water from the blowhole and waiving the tale before diving.

Other than watching the whales the sailing provided ample opportunities for taking some stunning photographs of Madeira from the sea.

The catamaran seems to have some solid advantage of being more stable than a regular boat. My wife suffers from sea sickness. Even being driven in a car often makes her sick. Now, she was still able to enjoy the sailing having taken some seasickness-specific medication beforehand. I was also initially concerned about myself, but the sailing went just fine. Everyone else one the catamaran seemed happy. This obviously depends on the weather, but I still think the catamaran has an advantage over a small boat. We did not need any special clothes, wearing T-shorts (and sunscreen) all the time. This part as well may vary depending on the weather.

    This experience is highly recommended!

We travelled on the MagicDolphin on 20th December. As we boarded, the weather was changing and we had some black clouds and rain appearing! The sea was quite choppy and the wind was cold! The Captain and Crew quickly settled everyone down very politely and professionally and diverted from battling the waves into a smooth ride. All of the crew were experienced and guided us to a spot where we were able to view a pod of pilot whales with some informative talks along the way. We enjoyed the trip very much and would recommend to anyone thinking of going. Shame we didn’t see any dolphins but the trip was still worthwhile.

Well that was 3 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Picked a bad day for it with the weather being horrible so if the company had any form of moral compass they’d have cancelled the trip but went ahead regardless. Unsurprisingly we saw no whales or dolphins with the guy on the speaker saying it was always going to be highly unlikely to spot them in such poor conditions (so why take us out then if not just to make sure they got our money). Also because of the weather we didn’t stop and snorkel as promised in the description of the tour so basically spent 3 hours bumping up and down in the rocky sea and rain then came back. I fully appreciate they can’t control wildlife and the weather but should’ve cancelled the trip or at least inform us there’d be no snorkelling and a slim chance of seeing anything so let us make the decision whether we wanted to still do it or not. Also the crew weren’t interested at all in speaking to anyone on the boat just huddled up in their little group chatting or on their phones. Supposed to hear all these wonderful facts about the wildlife but heard nothing. Got the odd fact about the Madeira coastline but that was it. Never been so bored. Oh and when we asked for a refund they refused.

Dear Gareth, Thank you for giving us a feed back. Our high priorty is to give, everyone that comes on our boats to have good time, and offer them high quality service. We have a good boat, modern, clean and good crew who cares about our guest wellbeing and our envouriment. If they were on the phone, that is because they were communicating with our spotters whom working on land to try and find the wild life. I am sad to see such bad comments from yourselves. On the day you went out weather was not the best but not the worst either. Madeira has 27 micro tropical climates. Which means weather can change rapidly. Even the best weather forecast apps can get it wrong. So it is easy for it to say we should have informed and we should have canceled. It is a very naive assumption from yourselves to critic our decision. Regarding the wild life, we do say it on every chennels, our wild life policy is, if you are unlucky not to find to wild life in your first trip, which can happen!! it is slim chance but can happen!! you can go again for a second trip just for 10€pp. Right after the trip we had many guest came and booked for another trip and they did not complain. I do find your request of refund is unusual, especially when we do not advirtise for it. I do not know how you come to refund conclusion. It is like going to a restaurant eating your meal and after, you do not like to food and ask for refund. You went 6 people on the trip, because you do not see wild life, because we do not stop for swimm, due to safety conditions, you think you have right to ask for refund is not acceptable for us. This is why we have refused your refund request. Regards Umut

We booked this months in advance and was really looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately we didn’t see anything on the first day and was a little disheartened. We were offered a discount to return another day for €10 each which we did today (27th Aug)

We left the marina in pretty choppy conditions and to be honest I wasn’t expecting to see anything. An hour into our trip most of us were lucky enough to see a bottle nose dolphin jump 2 or 3 times out of the water. The guide said as everyone hadn’t seen it, it didn’t count as a sighting.

Around 15 mins later the best was to come. We saw a Blainville's Beaked Whale. Apparently it’s a pretty rare occurrence to see them close up as their particularly shy.

The crew were amazing and even showed us a booklet containing what’s possible to see and explained about the Whale we had seen.

I’d recommend this to anyone. Worst case scenario is that you don’t see Whales or Dolphins and get a nice boat ride with info about the Madeira coast you pass.

Make sure you give them a second chance. They did all they could to give us the best chance.

    Thank you Magic Dolphin.

I didn’t get a picture as I was recording the moment we saw the whale.

When on holiday I always try to book a boat trip, I love being by the ocean, the people who work for the boating companies usually say that we may encounter some marine life. Yet this is never the case. When visiting Funchal I as usual booked a boat trip as I thoroughly enjoy the experience. Upon arrival the staff were were charismatic and kind as well as entertaining as they told numerous jokes throughout the day. We saw on our trip 2 types of whales and 2 types of dolphins, there was at least twenty dolphins. This was most definitely the highlight of my trip and I advise and recommend booking this trip as it’s one of the best I have ever done. The trip itself was very good and the boat is very spacious so many people could get on however it wasn’t overly busy or crammed which was just perfect. They offered food and drink, snacks ect which were splendid and easily attainable. I can’t help but recommend as this whole experience was so perfect as well as reasonably priced!

Perfect experience with Magic Dolphin. We were lucky enough to see a fairly large group of dolphins, they played for a while in the waves of the catamaran. The agency also offers zodiac tours, the boats are in contact with each other, which allowed us to quickly see dolphins. We recommend Magic Dolphin for the respect for nature and regulations (10 min max per group of dolphins), for the explanations given on board and for the good humor of the skippers.

A great trip out to the sea. Started by being boarded quickly and welcomed aboard, we quick moved out of the harbour into the open water where we quickly came across some whales and a turtle. From there we went down to nature reserve where there was chance to have a quick swim of about 10 mins. After leaving there we traveled along the coast line stopping at the fish port. One of the crew then did a little speech about the animals we saw. Only thing was he didn’t use the microphone and wind made it a little different to hear. The boat is nice and clean, crew were friendly and you can buy drinks and snacks onboard. Highly recommend this trip.

We booked ahead of our holiday, we were given plenty of warning via trip advisor that the event was imminent, then the day before the e- tickets were sent direct to my phone.
We went to the booking kiosk 30 minutes or so before our booked trip, glad I did as you have to check in with the organisers and get a plastic credit card size boarding card per person. I don’t think this is mentioned on the website or via trip advisor. We did this, but there were others that didn’t . The organisers were good enough to allow them to rejoin at their original que space.
All the crew were friendly and engaging the entire duration of the trip, cracking jokes and sharing their knowledge of the wildlife we encountered. They spoke in multiple languages explaining what was happening whilst we were travelling to a sighting area and throughout all events we had plenty of opportunities to get some great photos.
We were “lucky” on our trip to have two sperm whale sightings, a pod of pilot whales and within the first 10 minutes of leaving the marina, a blue marlin.
There were snacks and drinks for sale on board, which I don’t think is mentioned on the website.
If your daring or brave enough to go for a swim, then go suited up & with a towel, as there is only the onboard loos to change, so if there are many there you may have a wait to change
On the way back from the last stop, the swimming area, the guys onboard were giving details of the wildlife we had seen in more detail and readily answered any questions. We were also given history of the locations we passed by on the way back to the marina.
We both throughly enjoyed our 3hours and would do it again. We were offered discount on a second trip but have other things planned for the week so couldn’t go.

Because we saw that the Eco Catamaran was very full, we decided to do the boat trip with the smaller catamaran (Celebrity), which is slightly more expensive. The crew was very friendly and the group is limited to 25 people, so you still have enough space (except on the bow, where most people were sitting). Shortly after our departure we saw some "common dolphins", and that was it. I wonder if this kind of tourism does not cause unnecessary stress to the animals. The rule is that two boats are allowed to be with the animals at the same time, for a limited time. The question, however, is whether these rules are followed by all boats (and there were many). I later also understood why the crew was very helpful in showing us the dolphins as best as possible. After all, we didn't see any other animals. There was another stop for a swim (unnecessary for us), and then the boat sailed back to port close to shore. Of course you won't see any animals anymore. The order form said snacks, canapes and 2 drinks per person were "included". There is some fruit and you only get 1 drink. So they adapt better. In itself it was a pleasant boat trip, but it is a bit of a tourist trap...
