What could have been a disaster was sorted by Miguel, he initially left a voice note early morning saying the minibus had a warning light on and was going to try and replace it, but with it being Easter wasn't sure it would be possible, fortunately he got it sorted and with just a 30 minute delay to our departure time, he saved the day.

The three sets of two people were collected and we were on our way to Cascais and a nice stop to take in this town 45 minutes or so from Lisbon.

From there we went to Cabo Da Roca, the western most point of Europe for a short stop and a nice photo opportunity of the beautiful coastline.

Then it was all aboard the minibus to the town of Sintra and a stop in this lovely little town and tourist hot spot for a little walk around (some pastries) and a look in the city palace at our own discretion.

A short trip up to the Quinta da Regaleira and its many sites which were insanely busy, meaning we had to miss the Poco Iniciatico as the queue stretched for hours that we didn't have. Miguel to the rescue and we got to see the Poco Imperfeito with a little of his 'insider knowledge'. The Quinta da Regaleira is a good morning visit on its own.

Then to top it all off we go the spectacular Pena Palace, again queues, queues, queues but worth it for some amazing views from an amazing building.

All this for £125 for the two of us is ridiculous value for money, the tour took us many great places and Miguel the guide was informative and attentive and when faced with an obstacle overcame it by going above and beyond.

If you have a spare day, or just want to explore outside of Lisbon this is a great way to do it.

Our tour guide Miguel did an excellent job and worked very hard to conduct the tour safely, on schedule and while sharing tons of knowledge in both English and Spanish. I think this is a great tour if you have a short amount of time in Lisbon like we did, with only a 3 day stay. If you have more time in the area, you may want to consider a trip with a more leisurely itinerary but for us it was perfect.

I chose this tour because I wanted to get a bigger taste of Portugal outside of Lisbon. This was a full day tour that covers a lot of ground! Each stop was very distinctive! From the rocky cliff of the edge of western Europe, to the chill restaurants and cafes that like central Cascais, then the lovely parks and gardens of Sintra! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and funny! She answered questions on the for and her commentary made this full-day trip very engaging. I highly recommend Cool Tours!

The biggest disappointment was not being to get inside Pena Palace. The tour company emailed and said that since we won’t know exactly when we will arrive at Pena palace and you need a timed entry ticket to get in, just buy an online ticket to get into the gardens and you can upgrade ticket when you get to palace to get into palace. About half the tour participants followed the instructions provided by company and half didn’t. None of the people on the tour that followed directions got into palace. For those that hadn’t bought the garden entry ticket, the tour guide went with them to buy there timed entry tickets as soon as we got to Sinatra. All of these people were able to get into the palace.
We arrived at Pena Palace at 3:30 and had to meet bus at 5 to leave. This was not enough time at palace in the first place. We went to upgrade our ticket at Pena palace and next available entry time was 5. The participants that bought entry tickets that day purchased 4:00 entry time and got in. Very, very frustrating. Find a tour that has timed entry tickets as part of tour or go to Sintra on your own.

Thank you for the review. We understand your frustration but regarding to what our guides can do to help you to have the best experience in Sintra, he did. All the tour was good, his guiding visit in regaleira was done and all the explanations needed for you to know what you are seeing. Unfortunatly their are some obstacles taht are not in our hands, since Pena palace changed the ticketing policies the complains are on a daily base. In my opinion this bad review should go directly to the Pena palace and not in ours because we did all that we could do to avoid more problems and like it says in the brochure in give 1h 30m from the time you arrive at the monument. thank you

We were four who booked a guided visit to Cintra and were with 4 others on our tour.

What we found unfortunate about our trip, was the lack of time to actually see anything. We would get to a location, the guide would share with us a few details about the place, but then also spent so much time making disclaimers around not being responsible if we arrive late, if there wasn’t enough/any time, if there would be line ups, if there would be tickets available, etc, taking up our time to actually visit.

The time allocated to visit was way too short to actually see anything. It felt like a race and was not enjoyable.

The guide did seem quite knowledgeable about Portugal and its history which was nice. He however had a bit of a serious/aggressive tone that was unpleasant. It felt like we were bothering him by simply just being on this tour. On two occasions we arrived a few minutes late to our pick-up locations (5-8 minutes). The guide proceeded to scold us for being late.

Overall the places we visited were beautiful and definitely worth seeing. However, the cost seemed extremely disproportionate to the experience and what was offered. I would recommend going by public transportation (train, bus, Uber, taxi) and visiting on your own. That way you don’t have to run, stress about time or be guided by someone who was either having a bad day or who’s just not that friendly.

Sintra was beautiful but this tour was a total mess, and I would not recommend it to anyone. First of all, we purposefully booked a small group tour (max 8 people) and paid a premium price for it but ended up being combined with a few other groups and put on one large bus. The microphone wasn’t working so it was impossible to hear the tour guide unless you were sitting right next to her. When we got to the attractions, it became clear that the guide, Mary (Mariana?), didn’t care much for the history and culture and only told us basic superficial facts. I tried asked asking her more about the St. Peter Church and Quinta da Regaleira but she just looked annoyed. At some point the microphone started working (but then broke again) and she used it as an opportunity to tell us about how much she hates tuk-tuks instead of anything about Sintra. Mary was also very impolite, was constantly yelling at the attendees and the bus drivers, and even managed to lose two people at one of the attractions. They were very distressed and were trying to call her on WhatsApp for an hour, and when they finally connected, Mary just yelled at them. Another time we were at the bottom of a hill with several paths leading up, and I asked her which path to take, and she just kept yelling “UP! UP!!!” When we finally got to Pena Palace, the highlight of the trip, we didn’t have the time to actually go inside and explore it. I let Mary know that we are going to rush to the palace and be back at the agreed time, and she was very passive-aggressive in WhatsApp messages. All in all, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would advise to stay away from Cooltours and Mary specifically. Because we got combined with other groups, the mic was not working, and the tour guide was unprofessional, I would like a refund. Sintra was beautiful and I would highly recommend going there but you would be better off doing it on your own.

Hi Thank you for your review. We apologie for your bad experience that you had with us. We are going to talk with the guide because you tell here somethings that the cooltours doesn´t tolerate. Although i think that iffall the tours with us were like you describe here our rating for this tour was not 4.7 stars. Rating that is given from travelers like you. Hope in the next trip coming to Portugal we can talk and show you why this company it have a 4.7stars in guiding. Thank you

I was disappointed with this tour. The guide was very nice and provided interesting information. The locations were beautiful. However like others I was expecting a small group tour of about 8 and there were 16 of us (and some people cancelled last minute which means there would have been even more). As a result we were in a larger bus, and it was not a great experience - the bus was not great, creaky, the fan was very loud at the back so it was difficult to hear the microphone (which was also working intermittently), and in the heat of the sun in the afternoon the minibus got very hot unless you were in a seat that got a good breeze from the fan or small windows. Also with a larger group there is less interaction. The content of the tour was good, and we found the balance good between time at each location with the exception of Pena palace. The guide explained there was very little chance of getting into the palace due to the large queues that are always there, and even if we had got in it would have been very rushed to get through in time. I did not mind just walking through the gardens, however I would have liked to have known this in advance as if I had been very interested in seeing the inside of Pena Palace I would have made other arrangements and ensured I had long enough to queue and experience it properly.

This was such a great tour for the value! Stanislav Was an amazing tour guide giving us lots of historical background information while also being very personable. He kept the pace of the tour entertaining and made sure to keep the sunshine for us all day :) I would highly recommend this tour to those looking to explore Portugal with a smaller (better) group - ours was approx 6 people. Your company lucked out hiring Stan!

Miguel did an excellent job of telling us the history of the sites, keeping us on schedule and making the best use of our time. His patient advice and information really helped me enjoy the day. His personal tour of Quinta da Regaleira was excellent, and he was also willing to take photos. Although lunch was on our own, Miguel showed us options and provided recommendations. I note this trip is perfect if you want to see a lot in one day - if you have the time, you could easily spend much more time in each location.

Once again Susana was our travel guide. She had done such a bang up job on our tour of Porto that we hired her for this tour as well. We got to the Pena Palace early to avoid the crowds. This palace is a must see. The exterior is a mix of several architectural style, ie Christian Monastary, Moorish and the inside is incredibly beautiful. This was a monastary that was remodeled to be a home and each of the monk's cells were made into a room for the family. Each room is unique and from floor to ceiling, the architectural detail is incredible. We stayed over an hour and a half then headed to Sintra's city center with Susana decribing all sights. The drive to Cascais was so beautiful as it bordered the Atlantic and the waves were quite large which made for a lovely drive. We ate at a retaurant overlooking the ocean---incredible seafood with a breathtaking view. We had fish stew with delicious bread to sop up every bit. Susana knows the best restaurants and this one was wonderful. We continued our drive along the ocean stopping as various sites to take photos and just marvel at the beauty of the Portugal coastline. As we traveled on to Cascais, Susana filled us in on the history of this sleepy rural town that is now one of the wealthiest towns in Portugal. I highly recommend Van Go tours and especially Susana. P.S.I needed a Covid Negative test within 24 hours of my travel back to the USA. Susana arranged that for me as well. I don't know what I would have done without her.
