I consider myself very lucky to find this tour! The guide was amazing! Within a couple hours you not only learn about Dutch history and social life but also get an opportunity to relive those events in the sense that stories brought you to those times. The tour was very insightful, however presented in the manner that impossible to lose concentration. At the end you crave even more! The tour was really well planned ( not too much pointless walking) and had amazing stops that fulfills rich stories even more. Anyone who visits the netherlands, this tour is a must!

This walking tour will take you through the cultural and architectural history of Haarlem while exploring the many streets and canals that you would never experience without a guide. The 3 hour tour is a wonderful way to explore the city and experience the streets as well as, several “hidden” vantage points for great photos. We had been to Haarlem on a previous trip and wondered on our own-this tour was a much better way of exploring, experiencing and learning about the city. Time very well spent. Thank you!

I was impressed: James makes it interesting, fun, entertaining while keeping the tour highly educational! I recommend to plan a whole day in Haarlem starting with a tour and then taking your time to go through favourite spots/cafes/bats found during the tour :)

James is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. He knows a lot about Haarlem, architecture, the typical Dutch houses "gevelhuizen", history, second world war and can answer really any question. It just gives you a deeper experience of Haarlem then just wandering around. Nice to discover the hidden spots where you won't come without a guide. James really takes the time for you, so it's definitely worth it.

We wanted to tour Haarlem, but enough already with the food tours! I read the description for Haarlem Walking Tours and it sounded perfect. James isn’t always available so make sure you book him in advance; he’s really knowledgeable and a good time. Let him know what interests you, and he can tailor the tour to highlight your interests. We love the Fine Arts, so in addition to the regular information, he was careful to point out the city’s Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture. (There’s even a new building that was thoughtful enough to blend in by adding touches of sailing...no, you have to go see for yourself!) We learned the proud and scandalous town history, what buildings had been built for and what they were used for centuries later...even where to get a meal when the tour was over. James is knowledgeable, thoughtful, funny, philosophical, intelligent, whimsical, and knows good beer - what more could you want in a companion for an afternoon’s tour? (Give him a good tip - he’s worked hard to make this a great day!)

We had a great experience with James and his walking tour. We were staying in Haarlem for 6 nights and James provided a wonderful introduction to the city with entertaining stories about Haarlem's history and architecture and also the country's culture. James also gave us some great tips on restaurants and museums, which helped make the rest of our stay positive.
Haarlem is a great place to visit for either a day trip or a number of nights as we did. It is a beautiful city and we enjoyed the pace compared with busy Amsterdam.

I just landed yesterday at Schiphol airport and scheduled with James a tour of Haarlem. I took bus 300 straight from the airport, stored my luggage and went to meet James. In order to make things simple for me he came to meet me at the train station.
James was very knowledgeable of Haarlem’s history and architecture and had some funny stories about various places we stopped by. For two hours I’ve learned so much about the city as well as about holland. Without James I would have probably just strolling the streets, doing windows shopping rather than enjoying James’s company and knowledge.

James was very knowledgeable about Haarlem's history and able to answer all the questions we threw at him! The tour ended at a great pub where we all got a drink and continued our historical conversation.
