Mandatory visit in Tuscany! Please go to the ticket and book the time slot you want, including following days. Popular slots are quickly sold out! It was surprisingly quitet in the evening, and we got tickets at sunset which is really beautiful! Og course there are many steps, but well worth the climb. Bags must be left at the visitor centre, allow time for that, cameras are allowed to bring along.

Well worth a visit

We decided to book tickets last minute. This meant we couldn’t get pre book tickets for our day on the official website so we bought through ticketitaly. They sent us our tickets out as an e-ticket with a pre assigned time slot. We travelled to Pisa via train from Florence and this was easy. The train station is about a 20 minute walk away. The tower is situated next to the cathedral and Baptistry. It took my breath away when I saw it. A lot of times when I have visited these types of places (that you have read about and seen on tv) I am often underwhelmed but this really was something. The tilt is very pronounced! The bag store is next to the ticket office and you have to leave all bags there, you can only take your phone or camera up. Line up at the tower 5 mins before your slot, do not be late. The walk up the tower is very strange as you can feel the tilt as your walk up the stairs! The view from the top is amazing! Wear proper shoes as the stairs are marble. I don’t like heights but I urge you to give it a go!

fantastic visit

We visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa this month, and definitely enjoyed it. Booking process was smooth, but the company that operates the tour sent us our tickets only a couple of days before the visit, and at a time that was not the time we booked on TripAdvisor. We managed to make ourselves available at this new time, but not everyone may be in this position. I personally don't think this is acceptable, as people do make plans and can't always be flexible once they book things. TripAdvisor should not allow this type of bookings, asking customers to select a time slot (and the are quite strict with it at the Tower - 15 minutes slot, miss it and you can't enter) on their website only to find out at the last minute that the company gives you the time slot that best suits them. To our luck, our new slot was quite early in the morning, and it turned out to be a great thing as by the time we left the tower, the whole area around the tower had filled up with tourists, making it difficult to take a good picture of the tower from the outside. The ticket covers both the Tower and the Duomo adjacent to it, which is really beautiful. Regarding parking, we had done our homework about parking in Pisa, and knew that we needed to use car parks. The best one is just around the corner, called Tower car park. If you come early there will be plenty of space. All in all, a very nice visit.

Its okay, but there's much more to see in Tuscany

Our second visit to the leaning tower of Pisa, and wasn't blown away by it yet again 15 years later. This time, tons of tourists getting there selfies "holding up" the tower. Yes, lots of grown adults spending hours trying to get the best shot.

Skip it and go see some other amazing little town in Tuscany, especially if you have the time.

Our most awaited moment of Italy was when we witnessed the leaning tower of Pisa. How an unsettled soil resulted a magical tilt to on the biggest wonders of the world. Climbing of the clock tower is itself a very exciting experience and once atop you have the entire city’s landscape unfolded in front of your eyes. Such a majestic view from the tower. Memories for life

Renting a car? BEWARE Don’t park on the side of the streets!!!
We rented a car in Florence to visit Pisa. Plan was to spend 3 romantic days in Tuscany/Umbria by driving from Pisa to Rome since it was our HONEYMOON. We arrived to Pisa, parked our car on the side of the street as everyone in Europe does. However, there were 2 parking spaces conveniently available which should have already raised a red flag. Why would there be 2 parking spaces off the side of the street a block away from the Leaning Tower? Anyways, we left nothing visible in the trunk (had an automatic cover). walking towards the Leaning Tower, 2 street vendor approached us separately saying Rolex and Michael Kors. I noticed this bar on the corner as well. I distinctively made eye contact w/ the waiter and I wondered why the bar was empty being in a touristy spot. Well, it was on the opposite side of the touristy area. Anyway, we were literally gone for 2 hours, so someone was watching us. Upon our return, the back passenger corner window was broken and were able to open the trunk wipe us out CLEAN! I had gone on a shopping spree in Milan at the outlets so we bought new luggage to put our additional things. My meds were in my luggage too. They took EVERYTHING. It was heartbreaking. I suppose they were kind thieves bc they did leave 2 bottles of wine in the trunk. This was around sundown. Cops were NOT surprised, said this happens 50 times a day in a daily basis. There is NOTHING to do in Pisa than take stupid, cheesy photos of the Leaning Tower which I hope collapses. That way, there will be no reason to go to Pisa anymore and this won’t happen to anyone else. If you do decide to go, take all your belongings with you and have a photoshoot with all your stuff at the Leaning Tower.

Sent my head funny

First the practicalities... I tried to book tickets online a few days before we were due to go, but there was limited availability. Good news, we were able to book tickets when we got there. We didn't get there that early either and it was Sunday. They were cheaper to buy on the day at the tower too
It is all organised well, with time slots and a time and place to store your bags in safe lockers,
It was quite surreal walking into the tower. I nearly fell over with the lean of the tower. I suffer from motion sickness and occasional vertigo and the feeling of being inside a tower that appeared to be straight but is actually leaning sent my head fully. Aslo walking around the spiral staircase where you are changing from a relatively easy climb on the downside to a steep uphill on the opposite side was also weird on the brain. At the top there are 2 levels, the higher of the 2 having the bells. They chimed when we were up there and they were LOUD but fun to be around.
Great views from the top, expecially of the cathedral.

Stunning Location - a must see.....and climb!
Apr 2019 • Family
A sunny Easter Monday in Pisa - until it rained in the afternoon and we got very wet as we waited to climb the tower. But no one thought it wasn't worth it.

It's just such an icon - you just have to see it to believe quite how strange it is.

We arrived in Pisa around lunchtime and the area around the Duomo and Tower was mad-busy....the internet's cloud must be clogged up with pictures of people posing as if they were holding up the tower.... So if you want to visit when it is not busy, I am not so sure you can. November, maybe!

But on first sight it is astonishing... it is hard to believe that it can stand up. We had booked online - via trip advisor, but you can go to the official site too - and had a timed ticket. You go to the Guarderoba (cloakroom) in the building beyond the tower 15mins before your ticket time, and leave your bags (even small shoulder bags) in a locker. Then a 15 min queue to climb the tower.

In our case the rain made the marble steps even more slippery than they warn you about, but it added to the strange sensations as you climb. On one side of the tower you lean one way and on the other side, the other. The stairs are quite wide and easy to navigate, but like all such climbs there is a narrow bit at the top to reach the highest level - the belfry.
Great views of the Duomo and Baptistry, and the town....

Having known about the tower since my youth it was truly special to see it and climb it. An evening ticket - and the rain - helped reduce numbers of tourists, but it was very special!

Ticket purchase and management good....make sure you get the real ticket (probably all in Italian), not just the voucher, before leaving home.

It would be zero if I could select it
Booked the ticket through Viator but it was Weekend in Italy who are the provider. We were due to go tomorrow (12th April) but cannot go because the allocated time was no-where near our preferred time of 12.30pm (that option is still available to buy on the website) and need to catch a train to Rome.

We recieved details of the time on the day we travelled to Italy, 3 days before Pisa visit. We contacted Viator and Weekend in Italy as soon as we realised the times were not even close to our requested time. We were basically told the time we were given is the time we get and we will get nothing back, not even a voucher to spend on another trip. So basically we gave them near £40 for nothing.

I understand the T&C's say they cannot guarantee requested times, but maybe the organising companies should check with customers if allocated slots are over an hour after preferred times? Make T&C's extremely clear? Or remove unavailable times from purchase? Just a thought...
