Arrive at the volcano’s base for a guided hike around beguiling lava formations, craters, and trees that typify Mt. Etna’s surrounds. When you’ve had your volcano fix, continue to a nearby lava cave and peer into its dark corners, courtesy of a headlamp. Take a break for lunch, savoring three courses of tasty Sicilian fare with wine produced in the Mt. Etna region. As you eat, learn about the mineral-rich volcanic soil that gives the wine its special characteristics. Continue to the natural ravine of Alcantara Gorge that was formed from an ancient flow of lava. Etna People are everything one could dream of when it comes to tours and guides. Our personal guide was very entertaining, talkative, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable— not just about Etna and Sicily, but about the world and Italy. He was full of interesting information and enthusiasm and really gave the experience a personal, human touch.
The price for a whole day's adventure was very fair, and it was one of the best tours I have been on. It was mythological and magical. We walked around the lower summits of Etna; explored the inside of a volcano; filmed inside a crater (the guide helped me with my short film); ate healthy, local, tasty, Sicilian food and drunk Sicilian wine on the wine tasting tour in a beautiful location; saw much of Sicily by car; and went somewhere special (I won’t spoil it for you by saying too much here) where some of the most ancient of myths and legends originated from… truly the birth place of Gods and Goddesses.
We really felt like we were within some ancient and mythical realm, as though the Gods who play in the mythological dramas and in all legends, from all lands, were there… the legends of Hades and Persephone, Venus and Jupiter, were felt as something visceral, sacred, biblical… Arcane imagery was touched, seen, photographed, and artful archetypes, such as the Tree of a life, or the river where Venus took her secret lover, was imbued… at least, such were the stirrings within my imagination. For others, it’s just a nice hike and lunch. :)
The Etna realm (she’s the mama of Italy), her landscape, is very fertile, and the history and architecture rivals that of other better known ancient civilisations. Our guide was very relaxed and did not pressure us to be in any great rush, and there was lovely liberty in the structure of the experience. I rate the experience 5 stars out of 5. Laila.

Our your was fantastic. Our guide, Ribero, was the best. He was so knowledgable and spent the entire time giving us facts and history about the mountain and the gorge. You could tell that it is his passion to share his knowledge. He also made the hike very doable for the group as our age was over 65 y/o.

We had a full day Mount Etna tour with Tony and it was amazing! Pick up went smooth and was communicated perfectly. His expert driving was much appreciated navigating the crazy Sicilian roads/drivers. He is so full of information and knowledge as well. The hike took about 2 hours and had stunning views. We were provided with a jacket and hiking shoes as it was still a bit snowy and slippery in some spots. Lunch at the winery was also very tasty and a variety of items. Lastly, he gave us free time at the stunning gorge. Highly recommend!!

Surpassed all expectations. So worth hearing all about Etna from such a knowledgeable young chap. Dario collected us on time as planned and from start to finish of the day guided, informed and generally kept us entertained. He tempered his explanations to make the subject easy to grasp. The wine tasting and lunch was also superb and a great addition to the day. Bumping into Dario twice more during our hols was an added bonus. A delightful young man and a huge asset to the company. That Etna then erupted on our last day in Sicily and the streets of Taormina were showered in tiny volcanic ash and lava particles really was the icing on the cake

This was one of the most amazing days I have had in my travels. Everything was perfect from the women who helped us reserve the trip, to the specific time and pick up instructions, to the BEST GUIDE....Roberto! He was the most knowledgeable guide for any tour I have ever been on. I feel like I got a Ph.D. lecture on geology, lava, the mountain, etc. Roberto told us stories, information and made us feel safe on the hike up the mountain in the snaw. Many guides are just nice or entertaining, Roberto was both of these PLUS I loved the content and knowledge he had and shared with us.
Besides Roberto, the trip itself was so much fun. Hiked in the snow up Etna, then a great lunch at a winery and then got to see the Alcantara Gorge.
This will last as one of my favorite experiences. And P.S. Roberto is soooo charming! Thanks Etnapeople!

Myself and my boyfriend joined the tour along with 6 others in two groups. Roberto was a genuine joy to be around from start to finish. His enthusiasm and passion for not only the area he was narrating but also the volcanos themselves. It was eye opening to see the variations in rock formation other different time periods and how that has both positively and negatively impacted the region at times. We both enjoyed the two course lunch at the winery and sampling different wines. However, I would call it a lovely lunch with different wines and not so much a wine tour. Although we did view the wine cellars, which were great, there wasn't a huge amount of knowledge surrounding the wines/winery. Following this we went to the gorge, which was absolutely freezing!!! But well worth the cold dip to view the natural gorge and waterfall. Again, the experience was made so much better from our fantastic and enthusiastic guide. Would definitely recommend this tour.

We took the trip to Etna, with the wine tasing and lunch in the small group tour. It was fantastic! Ask for Tony,he has been guiding for over 25 years, was born on the mountain and has a degree in geology. He is full of great information, but more importantly is a wonderful, funny and insightful person. The whole experience with etna people from booking to the tour, food and vino was top notch.

The morning weather was less than promising and perhaps the event should have been cancelled then?
The walk up to the crater was fairly strenuous for seniors like us and not the gentle climb we expected.
On approaching the top the weather turned even worse and the wind got up and the walk was abandoned.
We later went to Alcantara gorge and the hour visit was cut to 15 minutes because the weather was so awful.
The meal at the winery was the best part of the trip, being superb.
Had the weather been better this would have been a good excursion. Tony the driver was excellent and very knowledgable.
On reflection the trip should have been cancelled and/or partly refunded as the events were seriously curtailed.

A day trip packed full of interesting information and good humour which put our group of 8 instantly at ease with each other. After supplying us with good hiking boots and jackets our guide Saro took us around some of the old craters and inside a lava cave sharing his extensive knowledge of the geology and history of Etna, together with flora and fauna, with enthusiasm. Then on to delicious lunch and wines at Emilio Sciacca winery and finally ended up dipping our toes in the river at the stunning Alcantara Gorge. I nearly didn’t have time for this - so glad I did.

We spent a week in Sicily in total and the whole holiday was a busy adventure, but this tour was the best part... BY FAR!
After our initial trek in the lava caves and up to Mt Etna, we were already speaking about having got our money worth... but then it was off to an exceptional wine tasting with awesome food (plus v cheap and tasty wines to buy direct from the vineyard), polished off with a trip to an exceptionally beautiful river in Alcantara.
Whilst the trip itself was action-packed and totally worth it, we have to give a special mention to the tour guide Tony. From the minute he picked us up, through to dropping us back home, he delivered insight after insight in a friendly and passionate manner (and perfect English). A truly lovely person, who lives and breathes Mt Etna and seemed to enjoy the trek as much as we did. Thank You, from Myles and Annika!

Hello,
We are looking at booking the tour in the future on a day we are planning to fly back!
Is there space on the minibus for bags (won’t be too many) and is it possible to organize airport drop off?
What time is the planned finish time!?
Hello, my group is interested in this tour. We will have 2 children ages 5 and 8. Will you have equipment in their sizes to borrow and is the hike and volcano portion something they can handle? Also, our group is 9 altogether. How large are the typical tour sizes?

I am not the tour provider, however I just took that tour a couple of weeks ago. I can tell you that you can get hiking boots there and they give them to you as part of tour and you really need them.
The van that they take up with the tour guide fits about 7 to 8 people in it. I’m sure they could arrange for two vans for a large group. As far as the small children 2 to 5 if it’s the hiking tour that I went on, in my opinion I would suggest you do not take two small children on that hiking tour as it’s quite a lot of effort and energy and you need to be very careful going up and down the paths and they’re somewhat steep. Having said all that, if physically you can do it, it’s a fantastic tour with great views and a lot of information. We really enjoyed it. My tour was given by the Etna, people that’s the name of the tour group. Hope this helps.

Someone please help!!
I plan on taking this tour at the very end of August. What would be a good choice clothing wise to wear? I ask because I plan on going into the water at the gorge. Would shorts and a hooded sweatshirt suffice? Or would pants be more appropriate and if so if there anywhere to change? Please help. Thank you!

The water in the gorge is very shallow - maybe 12 inches max. It's also very cold. We wore shorts for the tour and just kicked off our shoes when we arrived at the gorge. No need to change.
