Experience Bologna culture with walking food tour that skips the city’s conventional tourist restaurants. Savor five authentic tastings with your small group and take a guided city orientation stroll, visiting sites including the Neptune Fountain, Basilica di San Petronio, and Archiginnasio Palace. Sample food from its medieval market and ancient shops while your guide gives insight into local traditions and culture you might miss wandering alone.

What to Expect

Your tour begins in Neptune Fountain in Piazza Maggiore. After you’ve arrived, take a stroll around the piazza while a guide tells you about local history, art, and architecture. See Basilica di San Petronio, Archiginnasio Palace, the old University of Bologna, Two Towers, a medieval food market, and other city highlights.

Stop at the oldest bakery in Bologna to sample a torta di riso (rice cake). Then, continue to the city’s ancient chocolate factory, where the first sfoglia nera was created, and sample its chocolate specialties.

Afterward, get a taste of cured meats and cheeses with local breads and wine at a deli. There are two more stops on the sampling feast: a pasta laboratory for homemade egg pasta and a gelato shop.

Receive a cookbook with a selection of traditional recipes, and get ready for an afternoon nap.

I think ours started at around 10 and finished around 1.30. You won’t want any lunch afterwards as we found it to be a progressive lunch. We would really recommend it!
