We booked this tour directly on the Made in Rome Tours website, for myself and my mother (Trip Advisor doesn't have an option for an adult family group so I chose solo) who had just turned 70, to avoid the long lines. It turns out we not only got that, but also had a great guide with Lucia.

August is a very busy month there, so they had 8 groups leaving at the same time, and half of them would start at St Peters, instead of finishing there like the itinerary says, to offset the amount of people. We were in one of those groups with Marco, but I talked to him saying that we'd prefer to finish at the Basilica so we could climb to the top after the tour. Marco quickly called the office and arranged for us to move to Lucia's group, that would do the original itinerary we were looking for. It all worked smoothly and we really appreciated that.

Lucia was great! She's very knowledgeable, and offered a lot of information, and with a critical commentary too. I like that and we could tell she knew a lot in relation to the subject. It was a dream seeing the Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica, as well as a selection of important works from the extensive Vatican Museums. One day I'll go back to spend a full day there on my own time, but if you have limited time like we did, this is an amazing option.

Thank you Lucia for your friendliness, your kindness and all your knowledge!

A brilliant tour seeing one of the holiest places on earth! Giuliano was our excellent English speaking tour guide who was clear and easy to understand. He guided us through all the security checks into the Vatican with ease. The audio guides were very helpful even if some needed replacing but that is due to the Vatican not updating the guides since 2005 to a more modern digital version but we all managed. The sights we saw are truly amazing and it’s quite a privilege to actually stand where so many popes and dignitaries have stood before in such beautiful surroundings steeped in history. There was so much to see and learn about that you end up with brain overload. The Sistine chapel was awesome. It doesn’t disappoint. How Michelangelo managed to paint all that in 9 years in total during his lifetime is inspiring. We were also lucky enough to see St Peter’s Basilica which re-opened after Covid closures. So many photo opportunities. Truly magnificent. The Vatican museum is very big and we weren’t able to stop and look at everything as there wasn’t enough time on the actual tour, however, once the tour is over, you are free to go and look at it again in more detail but to be honest, after nearly four hours of walking about in 35c heat, all you really want to do is sit down and eat and drink something which you can do inside the museum or sit outside in its gardens. I’d recommend revisiting in a cooler month and buying an solo entry ticket to the museum just to be able to take your time at your own pace to really be able to study everything and see all the artefacts. In the meantime this tour was well worth it and I’d highly recommend it. Enjoy! 😊

Highly recommend booking the "Skip-the-line" tour as by 9am there was already an extremely long queue to enter the Vatican City Museums.

Incredible to walk through the rooms and see the sculptures and paintings. The Sistine Chapel was amazing although a lot smaller than I anticipated.

I give this 4/5 for the reason, I didn't find the tour guide as good as the others I had listened too throughout my stay in Rome.

I accept that the Vatican is very busy right now but this does mean that a decent guided tour with 30 people on it is almost impossible to do. The information given as we waited to enter St. Peter’s and inside the grounds before the Sistine Chapel was interesting and useful because it was delivered in a calm way. However it was difficult to take anything else in because the guide just kept walking ahead and narrating what he could see which was rarely what we could see because he was usually 5-15 metres ahead. If you paused to actually look at anything he was talking about you lost him & had to push through crowds to catch up. The guide asked if there were questions but was impatient with those who asked so it was a 3 hour monologue. I got the impression he didn’t really like his job. I booked this tour because the Vatican website was so hard to penetrate but on reflection I’d try harder with the website and save the money. We would have got more out of reading a guide book and the one line we skipped (the museum queue) was actually really short.

This tour was a mess from the start. At least 10 separate groups of people waiting outside the office just wondering what's going on. Our group was scheduled for 8:45AM but didn't get assembled until 9AM where we immediately rushed to get in line for the security. Thankful that we rushed since the "skip the line" feature does not exist here and did save some time getting there sooner (if only we had left at 8:45 when we were supposed to).

Guide went first through security and he did not do much of waiting around for the group to get through. Relying on a headset and hoping to find him in a large crowd of people, so no surprise when you nearly lose part of the group along the way. The basilica portion of the tour went ok as there was more space and ease of getting around due to a smaller crowd, but there was little direction from the guide other than "follow me". The only information he provided was to look at the detail and compare the size of the artwork to various things, something any person could understand without any help. I was hoping this would improve as the tour went on but things only got worse. The vatican museum was him just running through telling us to keep up while the rooms/hallways packed with frescas and sculptures were rarely described. It was hard to even glance at half of the things in the museum without feeling belittled and yelled at to keep up.

This tour needs more time to be worthwhile in general. However, our guide also was not very informative which made for a bad combination. We even passed some other groups where I actually removed my headset to listen to them describe some of the sculptures and why they were assembled in the room the way they were. I learned more in a few minutes from a separate group than in 3hrs with the guide I had!

Overall, this tour was very disappointing and is way overpriced given that the museum ticket is the only thing that costs money (roughly 17 euros). Do yourself a favor and do not book with this touring company. Go by yourself or find a separate guide for the places individually to get your money's worth instead. The 3hrs to encompass all of the places mentioned is not enough time even with a really good guide. The Basilica and Vatican museums are beautiful places and it's a shame that they get whisked over by these groups without describing it's beauty.

Note: I don't remember my guide's name but I included a picture of him below. He's holding the red flag and that was exactly what he was for this tour, a walking red flag. Avoid at all costs!

One of the worst tours we have been on by far; to pay nearly $150 for this tour for 2 people is ridiculous. Too rushed with a guide that seemed uninterested. We got to the meeting location at 8:20 am on October 29 and by 8:40 the company commenced separating us into groups, and we were placed in group 16 with 10 people total at 9 am. From there we walked to the Vatican which is about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. Tour commenced inside the Vatican at 9:40 am and ended in less than 2 hours. The tour guide told us the tour would be 3 hours! Why is this a big deal? We felt rushed the entire time, and the guide was moving us quickly from place to place while talking to us. She wasn’t engaging and it just felt like she wanted to this tour to be done sooner rather than later. This was in contrast to other groups we saw where the guides were taking their time, stopping at displays and explaining in detail what they were viewing. We got information that felt like it was a Wikipedia paragraph. Had high hopes for this given the reviews on Trip advisor but it was a major disappointment. Can’t recommend this tour. On a side note, we explored on our own including climbing St. Peter’s Basilica which offers amazing views and 1,102 steps.

We loved this tour and our guide Marco really made the experience. The Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel were very busy but having a guide who was knowledgable and engaging helped make the most of it and our boys engaged. With queues for the Basilica up to 3 hours in the square and only a few days to explore Rome it was well worth the price and made the most of our time. 100% recommend

The skip the line tour was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. Our guide Lucia was very knowledgeable about St Peters Basilica and the art and sculptures contained in it. Lucia also had great information about the works in the various rooms in the vatican museums.
Best tip we got was pay for the elevator if you are going to the top of the dome of the basilica! It is €10 and means that you only need to climb 330 stairs instead of nearly 900. The climb is not for the faint hearted however the view at the top is absolutely spectacular.
One thing to be aware of is that during the tour when you leave St Peters Basilica, if you want to return to wander through the amazing church again you will have to queue to go through the security barrier again. We did this and although the queue looked large, we only had to wait about ten minutes. Definitely worth it although I'm not sure it would be that quick at the peak of summer tourist season.
I would definitely recommend this tour, it was enjoyable and added to the experience.

We decided to opt for a skip the line tour to get the most out of our visit. The tour started promptly and our guide Lucia was pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable. It was busy and she did a great job keeping the group together and made the visit enjoyable.
3 hours is a whistle-stop tour especially given the scale of the museum, but whilst enough for us, for others it may feel a little rushed.
You get 10-15 minutes in the Sistine Chapel which is very busy inside and visitors cannot take photographs or speak, so the guide tells you in advance what to look out for.
St Peters Basilica is well worth spending time in after the tour to explore more, it's a huge building. However, there are several equally beautiful churches in Rome.
Overall a well organised tour that takes you through the highlights.

The tour was supposedly for 3h.
40mins at the beginning at their office to hear the history of the Sistine Chapel.
20mins at St Peter's Square & history about it
15 mins at Piazza San Pietro
45 mins at Vatican Museum
15 mins at Sistine chapel
15 mins at St Peter's Church
We were in a small group of 10. Most of the time was spent walking & waiting.
We were whisked through the Vatican Museum in 5-10 minutes, no stop was made or stories given. All we heard was "I am walking" from the guide as she guided us through the museum to get to the chapel.
We were left before reaching the Sistine chapel and asked to return our headsets.
Gratuities handed over and goodbyes said.
Please don't join the tour, you are better off just buying the Skip-The-Line tickets & make use of the free audio sets that are available at each point.
