    Fantastic views over the city. Well worth the experience. When we visited in August 2019 it was 8 Euros to climb the Dome however for 10 Euros there was a lift that took you up about 300 stairs there were approx 500 stairs on total - only approx 200 steps! I would recommend

    We went to the Vatican very early - did the basilica at 7am and then were in the small line for the dome at 8am. We paid the 8 euros to walk up. It is an easy climb as long as you’ve got sensible shoes and a moderate level of fitness. At 8am we had the stairs to ourselves. By
