St Peter’s Basilica was incredible and the dome climb is a must. The Vatican Museums were like going to an FA cup final in terms of overwhelming crowds and very unpleasant. We were whisked through by the guide and it felt rather rushed but there were way too many people to experience and enjoy anything inside the museums. The Sistine Chapel, where I wanted to go most of all, was unfortunately crammed with several hundred people all talking and taking photos, despite clear signs for silence and no photos or videos. Not the serene and moving experience I was hoping for. Sandra, the guide from When In Rome Tours, was really good but doing it this way was way more expensive than booking the tickets directly and getting an audio guide. Be warned… go early!

This tour is great if you have limited time. That being said if you have more time I recommend doing the Vatican museum on your own as the tour rushed through most of the exhibits. The basilica part of the tour was great and I do recommend getting a guide to point out all the amazing things to see. The tour stops at a point where you can go back into the basilica if you want a bit more time inside. Our guide was good, but she felt rushed at times.

We took the tour 8:00am 3rd May. The meeting point was a bit confusing. When it details a fountain look for a water filling point rather than the fountains in the square!
The price for a small group tour is expensive, but looking at the queues it may be the only good option if you are not on a budget.
The dome, St Peter's Basilica are breath taking. The Vatican museums are overwhelming with artworks and artefacts. Sistene chapel was all about Michelangelo painting.
Our tour guide was Chiara which really did make the difference. It's not just about her knowledge and sense of humour (which helps on a long tour), but more for a clear passion for art and history which bought the whole experience to life.
Excellent tour and for us was all we needed to discover Vatican

This was a brilliant experience and well worth the money for seeing lots of the key parts of the Vatican and the art in it while balancing the sheer scale of what’s there.

Massimo was our guide, he was knowledgeable, funny and attentive, I think it’s fair to say everyone loved him.

The tour goes at a good pace, you could spend weeks in the Vatican, museum and the sights (St Peter’s Basillica, the museum and the Sistine chapel (Massimo leaves you before that but only as there’s no talking in the chapel - he gives you lots of info before going in).

There’s still chances for breaks and exploring areas on your own or going back in for more. Would definitely recommend

A really superb tour with our extremely knowledgeable guide Chiara - even as a history teacher I learned a great deal. Meeting point was easy to find and we were whisked through security and up to the top of the dome quickly, being given the choice of taking the lift part way or doing the full climb. Chiara also made sure to look after one guest who was scared of heights. When the dome very sit was over we went straight into the basilica and had a guided tour of the main spots and the tombs below before having free time to explore further or get a coffee, before the second part of the tour in the Vatican museums. Again the tour showed us the main highlights, with Chiara giving us an explanation of the Sistine Chapel before we started due to the silence rule which is rigorously enforced. Overall a tour I would highly recommend, led by a very knowledgeable and very entertaining guide!

We had a fabulous time yesterday climbing to the top of St. Peter’s Dome, touring St. Peter’s Basilica the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel! Our indispensable guide, Chiara, made the day unforgettable! The sights speak for themselves and the tour itself hit all the highlights. What made our tour delightful was Chiara who connected with all 15 of us on an individual basis and the shepherded us through the sights with a mix of interesting facts, humor, grace, and fun. The group didn’t feel like 15 strangers and the tour never bogged down despite lasting five hours. So many guides are boring, self-absorbed, either not credible or way too dense with info...but my wife and I both loved her personality, humor and ability to read the group to keep everyone engaged. We struck gold with Chiara and wish we could’ve had her on other tours of Rome. The When in Rome tour was worth the money because of Chiara - we highly recommend requesting Chiara when booking the tour!

If there was choice of more than 5 star they totally deserve it. Right from when we booked couple of our tours and after reaching Rome, every thing was very well communicated, always answered phone or WhatsApp within few minutes, no issues finding guide at requested meeting points. Massimo , Luigi , Klaudia all very well skilled guides and gave us an excellent tour you can get in such a less time. My special thanks to Danielle without his help and answering tirelessly all my questions , to fit us so many tours and sights to see in just One and Half day was almost impossible. We will sure recommend them and will chose again if and when back in Rome.

Best guided tour yet! Our guide, Paolo was extremely knowledgeable and super easy to understand. Spoke English perfectly and was able to give clear and concise facts regarding all the different parts of the Museum, Chapel, and all the others in between. Gave plenty of time to climb St. Peter’s Dome, especially for those who take a little more time to climb the 300+ stairs. He made sure everyone in the group was present periodically to ensure no one got left behind. Amazing tour guide and would definitely return to take another one of his tours again.

My family and I completed the Original Entire Vatican tour with St Peters Dome climb on Fri 13/05/2022 and had the pleasure of having Paolo as our tour guide.
The tour included, all of St Peters Basilica with the dome climb, which give truly breath-taking 360 views of Rome, the Papal Sarcophagi (Vatacombs), the Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel.
Paolo welcomed everyone warmly and explained the tour prior to starting about what to expect and breaks included, ensuring all speakers where working and took spares in case any failed.
He has a very warm personality, fabulous English, with a great relaxing voice, perfect for this tour and is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the tour.
He explained in great details about the mosaics, artworks, sculptures, the buildings, past popes and the truly amazing 'The Last Judgement' Michelangelo's fresco in the Sistine Chapel.
He ensure we got the absolute best out the tour that we could and I couldn't agree more, my family and I loved it all, I would highly recommend this tour and Paolo.

Thank you Paolo 10/10

Chiara was our guide for this tour, she was absolutely wonderful and really brought the tour to life. She engaged with the the people on the tour as a group and individually which was fantastic. Chiara's knowledge of the Vatican City was amazing and with the added humor she slides in with her explanations she stops the tour from becoming to intense and keeps you engaged. The tour itself was excellent, there is so much to see that you don't know where to look at times because there is so much that catches your eye at once. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who visits Rome.
