Once inside, head straight to the Sistine Chapel and admire Michelangelo's world-famous frescoes without having to battle crowds. You only have to share the space with a fraction of the visitors who arrive later on. Alongside your guide, admire art in some of the Vatican’s 1,400 rooms and learn little-known information you may otherwise have missed. After you’ve seen the Gallery of Maps and Raphael’s Rooms, enter St. Peter’s Basilica through a reserved groups-only entrance and take a guided tour. Superb
This was excellent. Our guide was hugely knowledgeable with a genuine enthusiasm for her subjects. You do get to skip a hugely long line and avoid hours of waiting in a hot sun - it only took around 20 minutes to get in. I recommend this tour to everyone.

Great to see substance and miss the lines
This tour definitely allowed us to skip the line and go at a fast pace thru the Vatican, Sistine chapel and Basilica. The tour guide received her training in the archaelogical history of this area and has lead tours for 15 years. Kind of like a fire hose of information. Highly recommend the tour if you want to see many things in Rome in a short time.

Great Introduction To The Vatican - First Rate Guide, First Rate Experience
An amazing, informative, and exhausting 3 hours (prepare to walk ... a lot!). Our tour guide (Valentina) is an art historian with an encyclopedic understanding of the the Vatican and its art. Her commentary was absolutely wonderful and really gave us great context on what we were seeing. There is no way you can "see" the Vatican in only 3 hours, but this was an absolutely first rate introduction to the art, the buildings, and the history of this important place. You do NOT want to do this on your own. You will stand in line for hours to get in. We walked right in courtesy of this tour package. I would never do it any other way. Thank you Valentia for an amazing visit!

    Great Tour Guide! Highly Recommend
Oksana was an amazing tour guide she provided us with so much of her experience and knowledge during the tour. She made it enjoyable even though you walk for over 2 1/2 hrs the travel was very doable and level mostly but there are stairs in the museum and church you have to manage. Would highly recommend the tour and if you can ask for her if available.

The guide made all the difference !
The guide was very knowledge and friendly ! He was funny and very personable, he entertained us with stories of previous tours and visitors as well as private stories of his most loved memories of the Vatican. (Actually seeing the pope). He paid special attention to our comfort, heat , sun , rain etc, Only wish this tour was longer ! I feel I only experienced a small Portion and am now wanting more knowledge about this fabulous place . Great job making this entertaining as well as fact filled !

Efficient tour with a great guide!
Despite enormous crowds, our tour guide Enrica managed to take us through museums, the Sistine chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, and all with a smile on her face. She did her best to share her vast knowledge in history and arts with us in a fun and interesting manner and pointed out a lot of memorable details we otherwise sure would have missed. We definitely recommend this tour to everyone who wants to explore Vatican efficiently!

    Great Experience at the Vatican!
We had a truly fantastic time at the Vatican! It would have been a much different experience without our intrepid tour guide Emma! Her help navigating the very confusing lines at the Vatican was essential and her knowledge of the important pieces of the Vatican collection was extensive. She turned what certainly would have been a crowded, frustrating experience into a special day!

    Fantastic Guide and experience!
Eugene taught us so much. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was such an amazing experience. I teared up when the priest blessed my husband and I. I am filled with love for each of the artist and the spiritual feeling I now feel. Thank you Eugene for your love of this tour.

    The Vatican with Jad
Our tour guide was Jad who was very enthusiastic, informative and introduced humor into his delivery to keep people engaged. He recognized and engaged with all the people on the tour. Although the tour was with the flow of other groups he conducted the tour at a pace to suit everyone on the tour allowing time to answer questions and toilet breaks. The tour of the Vatican museum, the Sistine chapel and Saint Peter’s is a must and was enhanced with Jad’s knowledge and interaction with the tour group.

Lovely tour experience visiting Rome on our honeymoon!
Humorous and disarming, sincere and endlessly engaging, Mario is a wonderful guide with a vast breadth of knowledge in antiquities, art, historical culture and all the spaces in between. We started our tour with brief introductions in which Mario instantly, somehow, remembered all of our names. The line and security were surprisingly quick and we were off. We traversed the rooms and galleries at a brisk pace, sometimes pausing for more in depth back and forth on specific works. I found myself longing for more time to explore every room and gallery, but Mario assured us our 3 hour tour was time sensitive to have access to and see the most worthwhile sights, though begged us to return to spend an hour in this room, two in that, a few in the garden, etc. Indeed, we purchased a Vatican book at the gift shop, and when we perused it later over drinks and food at a lovely shop Mario had suggested, we had seen every single major work represented! By the end of this tour your feet will hurt, your belly will grumble, you’ll be awestruck and breathless by the endless grandeur and spectacle of it all and you’ll wish it were not over. We could not have imagined a better guide to hold our hands (figuratively) through such an experience. One older lady in our group tried to adopt him, we all felt fast friends, and after our questions were answered most thoroughly, the place was indeed closing and we couldn’t possibly have seen more even if we wanted. Thank you for the lovely tour, we wish you and your family all the happiness and hope to see you again one day on the next adventure!

    Good Tour
Our first trip to Italy seemed like a visit to the Vatican and Sistine Chapel was essential. We appreciated the highlights we were shown, although sometimes we could see interesting displays in other rooms that we did not go into, and the focus on ancient maps was not really worth the time spent. We were given a legend to the Sistine Chapel art that was helpful, and the guide did point out details we would not have otherwise noticed.

Absolutely brilliant tour. Elaine is so passionate about the subject matter and her enthusiasm is infectious. This is a three dimensional tour embellished with both quirky details and real in-depth information based on a profound understanding of the Vatican, At Peter's and their treasures. The early start and early entry cannot be underestimated as making a huge difference to the experience. Our small group had only a short wait in line and yet was one of the first to enter the museum (certain guides/groups have priority) and we had the first several astounding rooms of the Vatican to ourselves - an experience we will never forget. Elaine led us through the Vatican museum, Cistene chapel and St Peter's Basilica deftly and expertly but while still maintaining a personal and human touch. When we left there were literally hundreds of people queuing to get in - and this is well out of season. A fascinating, breathtaking and hugely memorable experience. I would strongly recommend doing this tour if you want to get the most of your visit to the Vatican. Our group all felt hugely fortunate to have made such a good decision.

Ciao from Rome, thank you so much for taking the time to write this fabulous 5 star review! We are so happy that you had a wonderful time on your early access tour of the Vatican. You are so right, entering early and avoiding all of the crowds makes a huge difference when it comes to making the most of your trip to the Vatican. Having an amazing guide like Elaine to show you around is another major perk as she always manages to navigate the museums with ease while explaining the history behind the priceless artworks with passion. The Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica are absolutely breathtaking, don't you think? Thanks so much for choosing our small, family-owned business for your tour. We would love to see you again soon for another tour whether that be in Rome or one of our other stunning Italian destinations!

It was overwhelming to pick a tour to start, but once I saw the Vatican I get why. There is too much to do and see. If you have something particular you want to see that makes sense. Mario gave an EXCELLENT tour of many key sites with lots of classic information, theatrical monologues relevant to the times/place/pieces. He was an excellent guide. I was just a bit disappointed the tour went to fast, I felt like we were running through at times, but more because of the time. Mario had a great way of seeing everything so the crowds were limited, and makes sense to go in early for sure. I wish I had known it would be so cold inside just like outside, and to know we would be almost an hour in line (with great explanations) waiting to enter just to have added a few more layers.

Ciao and thank you for choosing us to guide you through Vatican City! Mario is indeed a fantastic tour guide and we are very fortunate to have him as part of our "what a life" family! We really appreciate your review and positive feedback. I am so sorry you weren't advised about the wait outside and I agree it has been cold these days in Rome. Due to the many days of closure and the busy period surrounding the Holidays, we did start our tours a bit earlier than usual in order to secure our place at the front of the Special Access reservations entrance for when the museums open to us at 8 am. Unfortunately as you said the museums are quite crowded and the officials do little to control the amount of people entering on a given day. Even with the special early access we are not the only privileged tour operator and sometimes the security line can take 30 minutes. We trust our experienced guides to make last minute on the ground decisions to ensure that we are delivering the best tour possible on any given day and they use that time to explain the Sistine Chapel so you are prepared to head directly in! I hope that helps you understand the wait a bit better, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Rome soon, Grazie Mille!

This was my second time having an early morning Vatican tour with What a Life Tours. I was so impressed the first time, that I had to do it again!
Elaine, our very energetic, native English speaking guide greeted us as if we were old friends. She immediately made us feel welcome. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and delicious cappuccino at the office while Elaine began giving us information about the paintings in the Sistine Chapel.
We then made a short walk to the entrance and waited only a few minutes in line before entering. We were definitely one of the first groups through security if not the first group through.
We were immediately impressed with Elaine’s knowledge and her love for Roman history and her adopted home is evident!!
We toured the museums before heading to the Sistine Chapel. Unbeknownst to us, we booked a tour while the famous Raphael tapestries were hanging in the Sistine Chapel to celebrate the 500th anniversary of his death. What a treat that was! The downside was, the Chapel was quite crowded, more so than it was on my last tour, despite it being off season. Nevertheless, seeing the tapestries was worth the crowded space.
After 20 minutes, we then left the Chapel via a VIP corridor which made us all feel quite special. ;-) From there were visited St. Peter’s Basilica — which is so impressive. Elaine recommended taking the stairs to the cupola for an amazing view of Rome so when our tour ended that is exactly what we did!
If you’re heading to Rome, this is the tour to take! I did it five years ago in the hot month of August and this year in February. And I would do it again because I know I will see something new each time!!

I can’t exaggerate how great this tour was. I had dreamed of seeing Michelangelo’s great masterpieces for years, but was always turned off by the idea of the enormous crowds at the Vatican. This early tour eases away all of the stress of navigating the Vatican and allows you to focus on the art, history, and spirituality. Our guide was Mateo, whose enthusiasm and respect for his subject matter was inspiring. Even though he’s been a guide for 12 years, it still felt as if he was freshly painting a picture of the history, rather than rattling off the same thing he’s said 100 times before. Pay the extra money for early access and a guide, and you won’t regret it.

Hi there, thanks so much for the excellent 5-star review! We are so happy we could make your dreams of seeing Michelangelo's masterpieces in person come true. Taking away the stress of crowds and planning is what we are here for! Mateo is one of the best guides to have with it comes to his enthusiasm for the artworks within the Vatican Museums. You're right, even after seeing the museums hundreds of times over the years, he still gets excited every time! Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback, it means the world to us. We would love to have you back again for another tour soon whether it be in Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Pompeii & Positano, or elsewhere in Italy!

This was the only tour we booked as part of our first family trip to Rome and it was worth every cent spent (and then some!). We loved that our group was small (under 15) and honestly hardly felt as though we were really "on tour" thanks to our outstanding guide Elaine. Elaine was incredibly knowledgeable, had a fantastic sense of humor, and was a dream with our two children (ages 10 and 7). If there's any way to request a guide ask for Elaine!

Selecting the early morning tour was the best decision as we experienced the Basilicia with virtually no crowds. Huge bonus - beautiful photos of our family outside the Basilicia in the early morning. The tour concluded just as we reached the Sistine Chapel - a fact we appreciated as it allowed us to thoroughly enjoy this sacred space.

My only slight critique of this tour is that our time inside St Peter's Basilicia was shorter than anticipated. We would have happily skipped a few stops in the Vatican museum to spend an additional 15 minutes in the Basilicia to make the tour more balanced.

Ana is quite possibly the world's best tour guide! What a privilege to have been on the tour of the Vatican with her! Our group of 3 were lucky to have been escorted by her through the Vatican, The Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Every single minute and every single second with Ana was pure joy. She is so passionate about her work and the history around us. She is very knowledgeable and has a way of sharing this information that is just magical and hypnotizing to listen to. We highly recommend What a Life Tours and Ana. I wish that we had booked more tours with her because walking around Rome without her is just not the same. Next time! Ana, thank you so much for the most unforgettable tour and your sheer awesomeness. You are a true professional and it was an immense pleasure to have met you.

Did the early morning Vatican tour back in Oct and was recommending What a Life to a friend only to realise I didn’t leave a review!
Our guide (Mario I think?) was quirky and interesting and kept us well entertained and learning lots throughout the day!
The breakfast and decent coffee was a good start.
The day went quickly but our guide gave us lots of good tips for how to get the most out of the Vatican once it finished.
Well worth booking even for skip the queue, you are waiting for 30 mins max compared to the hours non group tickets wait!

Mario is one of the best guides to have when it comes to showing you around the glorious Vatican. His humor and passion for history always shines through! Our Italian-style breakfast is designed to give you that morning boost you need to get through the day and best of all, the museums are just steps away after you finish eating! Plus, you're right- skipping the long lines really makes all the difference in terms of saving valuable time on your trip. Thanks again for the recommendation and be sure to keep us in mind as you plan your next getaway to Italy! Did you know that besides Rome, we also offer tours in Tuscany, Florence, the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and more? :)

This tour is a MUST! An absolute must if you want to enjoy Vatican City. The early morning tour allows you into St. Peter's Basilica with no line and very few other visitors. This means you can stand in front of Michaelangelo's Pieta for as long as you want without fighting any crowds. 20 minutes in the church is barely enough time to take it all in, but it works because there are so few other people. I also think it's extremely important to have a guide in the Vatican Museums to avoid overwhelm. Ana was our incredible guide, and she kept us to a schedule that had us moving through the rooms, and she taught us incredible and important things that we would have otherwise missed. The tour concluded right before the Sistine Chapel, so we were able to sit in there as long as we wanted. I truly cannot recommend this tour enough! It is definitely worth the investment.

The early morning tour gives you a jump on the thousands of visitors you will see at the Vatican. Breakfast is well worth the price and has something for most individuals. Each tour guide issues you radios for easy listening as you tour. Small groups sounds good but there are many, many small groups. By the time you are part way through the tour, you will find it hard to concentrate because of the masses of the people. To see the paintings and sculptures is worth the effort and a must do experience if you are in Rome. The Sistine Chapel is especially amazing, with its magnificent roof scenes by Michelangelo.

Where can I start! Joseph did an excellent job of keeping us informed prior to our tour, letting us know of meeting points changes, timings etc. This certainly helped as it avoided an inconveniences.

Onto the tour, we had the pleasure of being guided by Giovanni. After initially meeting him outside the office, he greeted us and took us to a small café nearby where he provided us with delicious coffee and croissants! After breakfast, Giovanni introduced us to other members of the tour and we were on our way! From the get go, Giovanni made us feel relaxed and always made sure we were comfortable with his hospitality. We were marvelled by his wealth of knowledge and to provide centuries worth of history in only a few hours is a feat in itself! Giovanni excelled at this and his passion and personal connection to the city itself was very much welcomed as it kept us engaged and wanting to know more!

We were never kept waiting and Giovanni always got us involved in the tour, making sure we knew exactly what we were seeing or reading! Despite the areas of interest being less busy, due the unfortunate circumstances, it was still busy enough to get lost in the crowds! Giovanni always kept the pace flowing smoothly and uninterrupted and his humour and charming characteristic always kept the group energetic.

We'd be surprised if we heard of another tour group that could match the same level of knowledge and quality of the tour as Giovanni did! It was an extremely informative and well thought-out day of exploring and we very much appreciated the efforts in providing us with an unforgettable and detailed experience. A MASSIVE thank you to Giovanni, our tour guide and Joseph, our booking manager for giving us the opportunity to experience the Vatican City like no other. We cannot recommend this tour enough and we hope your business continues to flourish even more as you all deserve it!
