We found this to be an excellent, well-organised tour that held the interest of adults and children (12 -14), and I would highly recommend it. The Colosseum is extremely busy, and tobe guided through it by an experienced tour guide (especially skipping the ticket line), makes it feel much more manageable.

We were guided by the marvellous Barbara, who captivated us all with her tales and detailed knowledge of how the Colosseum entertained its audiences in Roman times. She really brought it to life, and her energy and enthusiasm held the interest of our boys too. The Forum is also a highlight, and Barbara's engaging style, again helped us picture how it would have been, and how different members of society would have experienced it.

A must-do in Rome!

Booked this on Takewalks.com and it was a real highlight of my trip to Rome. We had Paola as our tour guide and she was everything you want from a guide - warm, smiley, energetic, entertaining, sympathetic to anyone with walking difficulties and super knowledgeable about the Colosseum and Forum. She was generous with her time throughout and we escaped the crowds with some great viewpoints we wouldn't have found ourselves. The logistics were impeccably planned and the headsets worked excellently. This tour was great value for money, I learned so much from it and would highly recommend it to anyone.

This was one of my favorite tours and I think that our tour guide had a lot to do with it. I think his name was Fabio or something like that. He did a great job of keeping things interesting and handling the kids who were in our group. He knew how much information to share without being overwhelming and he was smart about finding places for us to sit while he was talking and giving us a break in the middle. A three-hour tour at 2:30 in the afternoon may not seem very appealing, but actually, the sunset view of Rome from Palatine Hill was fantastic.

We booked directly through Walks of Italy. We booked the colosseum at night tour months in advance with access to the underground area. They cancelled the tour the day before an offered up this tour instead. I did not get a refund for the night tour which was more expensive and I paid in full for this tour. No response for emails to the company. This tour was guided by an "expert blue badge" guide. He was alright, lots of talk about gladiators which I guess is what this tour is about but it was uninteresting and not what I signed up for. It was very hot at 3:30 pm and the tour have 16b participants not all of which could manage the stairs and heat. 3 people who could manage the stairs also left the group due to the lackluster guide. This tour does not include the underground area which was disappointing. We spent a lot of time in the Forum again with many stairs and unrelenting heat. I was not satisfied with this tour as a replacement and would only recommend it to people who can do lots of stairs and care to hear a lot about gladiators.

Dear Wendy L, Thanks for your review. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of your original tour and any frustration experienced during the replacement tour. It's disappointing to hear that you didn't have the experience you were hoping for. The Colosseum canceled our reservation at the last minute and our company had to do what we could to accommodate all our clients that were booked on your tour. We understand how important it is to have a guide who is engaging and knowledgeable and it seems that our guide did not meet your expectations in that regard. You should have received a partial refund by now, If you did not, please contact us at feedback@walks.org. We can investigate as well why you did not get a reply from us. Our team is always available and willing to help our clients. We hope you will give us another chance to show how our company cares for each of our guests and provide you with a better tour experience in the future. Kind regards, Jhonas.

Davide was my guide, and I think he may be the best guide I had when traveling Europe. He is phenomenally knowledgeable and adds humour throughout the tour. He gives a great deal of detail, while also balancing the enjoyment and narrative of the information. I highly recommend this package, especially if you want to feel like a gladiator walking out onto the arena floor! My only small problem was that we didn't spend enough time at the colosseum, especially walking around the top sections. Although, it's important to note, you can leave the tour whenever you wish, and if the group decides to stay longer at the colosseum you can. Highly recommend, especially if Davide is your guide!

Our guide Francesca was absolutely brilliant! She had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Flavian Amphitheatre and life in Ancient Rome. She narrated so many fine details in conjunction with colourful depictions in her notebook. It really felt like we were there over 2000 years ago. I would recommend this experience to any new traveller to Rome, especially if you have an interest in what life was like during the Roman Empire.

What can I say?
Papa Franco was the best tour guide I’ve ever had.
He was very knowledgeable and personable. You can tell that he is very enthusiastic and passionate about the history of Roma.
The commentary was very detailed, and we thoroughly enjoyed taking the facts about the city in as we soaked in the scenic views.
I’d recommend this tour to anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of ancient Roma and enjoy the stunning views.

Thank you, from Scotia.

This was a pretty good excursion but do note it was quite a bit of walking, lots of stairs and hills. I did this with my dad who is a pretty fit senior but it was still pretty tiring for us both.

Here are my thoughts: (1) meeting place was confusing. Please note the meeting place which is at a park up a hills across the street from the Oppio Cafe. This is across the street from the Colosseum. (2) we did not get to go to the ground floor where all the gladiators and animals were kept. I thought that was included since it recently opened. We were disappointed but it looked like all the other dozens of tour groups weren’t allowed down there either. Still a big bummer. (3) this tour included a big loop thru the Roman Forum which was very cool. Admission for this was covered. Note there’s lots of walking up hills and uneven cobblestone paths. It’s very easy to trip or slip. (4) there was zero time for us to even stop at the gift shops on either levels of the Colossum. Another bummer. I would have loved if they started at the Forum then ended at the Colosseum so we could peruse the gift shops for souvenirs.

Valentina was our guide and she was very lovely. Our group had maybe 20 people? A lot of people. But we could hear ok bc we were given headsets that were connected to her microphone. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with her but we never got lost. There were so many groups and the Colosseum was very crowded. Even on a Tuesday on the off season. It was annoying that people who just got a ticket and wandered in would just hang out at the railings and talk with their friends and you had to squeeze in to try to get a pic. That was a bit annoying.

Also if you take the subway, watch your ass!!!! There are a LOT of pickpockets and they work in teams. They will try to distract you and herd you into the middle of the crowded subway where their buddies rob you blind without you even feeling a thing.

We had a great guide. She was passionate in everything she was showing and explaining to us. She made it a point to wait till a previous group moved from a certain area so she could show us a better view on what she was explaining. Before moving on to something else she waited till everyone was together and done taking photos before moving to the next amazing advantage point. At one point my wife had trouble keeping up because of a healing broken foot and she told us to take our time and she will wait at a particular spot for us. Once she got the group to that point she walked back till she spotted us to direct us to the group. She was just amazing.

This was so awesome and a great introduction to Rome. Our guide Michele was so knowledgeable, funny and thoughtful. He kept us entertained, interested and spellbound as we walked for three hours through the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum with our two kids, aged 8 and 11. He shared so much history and thoughtful commentary which really helped set us up for seeing Rome, its culture and history. It was a hot, hot day, with lots of walking in the sun and through his great tour, everyone stayed interested. The man is an artist!!
