Overview
Explore the Roman countryside with ease on an electric bike tour. Navigate the highlights of the area—including the ancient Appian Way, the Aurelian walls, and the San Callisto catacombs—without breaking a sweat on a pedal-assisted bike. Escape the crowds of Rome and discover monuments you didn't know existed. Plus, you'll have plenty of time to ask questions in a small group limited to 10 people.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and small group at a central Rome location (address shared after booking), and pick up your electric, pedal-assisted bike and helmet. If the hilly journey through the Roman countryside doesn’t intimidate you, regular bikes are also available.
You'll travel via ground transportation to the beginning of the Appian Way, then mount up and leave the navigation to your guide as you enjoy the scenery and the ease of the assisted bike. Get views from the ground up without the barrier of a tour vehicle window between you and the scenery.
Learn about the history of the Appian Way, constructed in 312 BC, through your guide’s informative commentary. Cycle around the area’s most important landmarks, such as the Caracalla's thermal baths, the Circus of Maxentius, the Aurelian Walls, Caffarella Park, and the Tomb of Caecilia Metella. Listen as your guide sheds light on the history and significance of the ancient sites.
Stop at the San Callisto catacombs—built in the second century and named after the deacon St. Callixtus—and explore the underground tunnels with your guide. Learn their fascinating history and gain insight into ancient Roman burial traditions.
Return to your central Rome meeting point with a deeper understanding of ancient Rome and its traditions, history, and culture.
