We booked a tour first thing in the morning and I would really recommend an early time. When we arrived there were few people around and it was quite a different story when we left around 11 when the lines were down the block. When we arrived it was very easy to check in and our tour guide Ricardo was excellent. Entry into the venue to skip the lines and fast track through security and ticketing was definitely worth it. The tour walked us through the entire museum and Sistine chapel and there was time at the end of you wanted to explore on your own. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and gave us some interesting historical information with a running dialogue through the entire tour. I’d highly recommend this.

This was 100% worth it! Our guide, Deborah, was both knowledgeable and passionate about the history and contents of the Vatican. My wife cried (I'm not kidding) as she described the history and details of the Sistine Chapel, and that was just a small bit of the entire 2:30 tour.

Deborah engaged with the entire group, and made each of us feel like she was talking directly to us!

I learned way more than I would have with a recorded voice in an earpiece, and the modest cost was absolutely worth it. If you're taking the time to visit, don't cheat yourself by taking the cheapest option.

Highly recommend this tour!

Meeting location is a short walk from the entrance, about 1/2 way down a smaller street around the corner and across the street from St. Peters. It might seem a little out of the way, but it's perfectly fine.

Enjoy!

we did Early Access Vatican Museum Semi-Private Tour with Sistine Chapel & St Peters
the tour guide Michele was very knowledgeable & his passion for art history was evident. His stories of the art made it come to life.
the only issue we had was the long line to get tickets & headsets for the tour- it seems that they would issue those to the guides in advance so the tour could begin on time
(this must be a Vatican rule because other tours in Rome gave them to the guides in advance)
The Vatican & Sistine Chapel are gorgeous!!
ST Peters was closed to the public when we visited

Rip off. Our guide wasted an hour making us stand in the burning sun looking at photos of the Sistine Chapel before marching us through the marbles.
And other treasures. I think she wanted to get a sun tan. I couldn’t believe I’d spent £125 on this “Tour” which I could barely understand and that in no way explained anything beyond a few rattled out dates. Two of our party thought better of our guide and abandoned the tour altogether. Save your money! Get a ticket for 17 euros from the ticket office and an official audio guide, about 20 euros, which would at least tell you about specific exhibits. Spend the money you saved on lunch!

Complete Scam beware!
Do not give them a penny!!!
We bought their tickets through "get your guide"
40 euro per ticket plus "guide"
we arrived at their guide time to find out there is no guide at the place.
Looking for their guide for 15 minutes we called their number and they said "no refund" not even giving us actual tickets to the place.
We had to pay another 17×2 for 2 tickets without guide for the place.
Shame on you City Wonders Ltd.
No really guide not really company.
Just a scam.

Dear Jacob E, Thank you for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor. We are sorry you missed your tour. We provide clear details and instructions on the confirmations so that the clients can reach the meeting point easily. We also ask our clients to arrive 15 minutes in advance to check in as we must depart from the meeting point on time. If you could not see your guide at the meeting point then I'm afraid that you arrived late and unfortunately we are unable to wait for late arrivals due to strict entrance times on the tickets for the venue. If we miss the time on the ticket , then the entire group who showed up on time is penalized and we cannot enter the museums. Kindly note also that what you have booked is a guided tour of 2 hours and 30 minutes, not just tickets. We wish you safe travels. Kindest Regards Chadia City Wonders.

Positives: We entered the museums fairly quickly and did not have to wait in line, it was easier to navigate Vatican with a guide instead of wandering around aimlessly
Negatives: Some people in the group had trouble with the audio equipment which was not working properly (mine was working fine). Despite the fact that our guide (Paola) was the loveliest we could ask for and I could tell she was very knowledgeable, she really struggled to translate that knowledge in English. Art is one of those things that you really need to know the specific terms to use and a basic knowledge of English is not enough. The fact that it was so busy and noisy didn’t help, but that’s unavoidable. St Peter’s Basilica wasn’t included in the tour for reasons unknown (there was a warning in the small print) but you could go on your own and if you had the stamina to wait in line for long, you could also access the Dome for an extra 8-10€.
In retrospect, I am not sure if the experience was worth the £50

Dear Eva_Juju, Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on Trip Advisor. At City Wonders we pay a special attention to our tour guides as they work closely with the customers. That said, we feel sorry to hear that your guide had difficulties conveying her knowledge in English. We have not been including the Basilica in the tour since the start of the Pandemic due to the passage that we use between the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica being closed. So for the moment, I'm afraid that it is still not included and this is clearly stated before you book the tour online in the inclusions within the description. Nevertheless we are grateful for your feedback and we will forward the issues you have raised to the relevant department for review. We wish you safe travels. Kindest Regards Chadia City Wonders.

We would highly recommend a guided tour as the guide can point out things that you might otherwise miss. We had Marina and she was excellent; knowledgeable and went at the right pace for the group size (arpund 20). The time about two and a half hours - went very quickly and we were left to admire the Sistene Chapel and the grounds of the Vatican on our own at the end of it. There is so much to see in the museums that it needs longer, and this is something that we shall come back to in the future now that we have the knowledge of what there is. The Sistene Chapel is spectacular.

Vatican City is a must-see. The buildings are huge and stunning. We paid more to get a guided tour as we wanted to know the story behind it, plus the most interesting parts/the highlights.

Unfortunately the irony of the company being called "Skip the line" was evident from the start... As soon as arrived we had to queue for ages to register in a tiny office (see pic). I also thought from the tour description, we would get to skip the long queues at the Vatican. Nope. We joined the same ones as everyone else. A bit misleading perhaps?

Most importantly, our tour guide - while friendly - didn't give us much context or background on Vatican City. So much so, we had to Google this ourselves when we got back to our hotel. While our guide had an excellent grasp of the English language that I could never match in Italian, he spoke quickly, sometimes mumbled, the audio equipment (when he finally started using it) was poor quality, and his heavy accent made it really difficult to understand what he was saying. We caught odd words but not a lot more, which was so disappointing. We basically learnt very little.

Maybe we were just unlucky.

Dear ARWoo, We have carefully reviewed your review and we are sorry to hear that our tour didn’t live up to your expectations. At City Wonders we always try to provide the best possible service to our customers so it’s disappointing to hear that was not the case with your tour. We have passed on your feedback to our Guide Manager and our Product Management teams and we can assure you that they will act on your advice to improve our tours going forward and to ensure that other customers do not encounter similar issues with the skip the line and the headsets at the Vatican. City Wonders regards feedback from our customers as invaluable, because it allows us to adapt our tours to be the best that they can be. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. Kind regards, Federica City Wonders

We went on the 8.30am tour which was perfect as the Vatican Museum opens then. We found the meeting spot easily via taxi and we’re able to have a quick coffee and croissant at a nearby cafe. Francesca, our lovely guide, took us steadily through the many rooms of the Vatican Museum. The number of ancient Roman artefacts taken by the various Popes from Ancient Rome to the Vatican is quite amazing, and certainly helps in your understanding of what is left of Ancient Rome in the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, as well as the Partheon. We were well prepared with the relevant art history for the Cistern Chapel as you are supposed to visit in silence…. reminders were frequently made by the ushers there. As you leave the Cistern Chapel (without the guide) there is still extensive parts of the museum to view alone, and you can go into the gardens as well. If you wish to visit St Peter’s (free) it is a 10 -15 minutes walk but by lunchtime the queues are quite long so we just enjoyed the atmosphere in the square.

very knowledgeable tour guide. Defiantly worth the money to do smaller group tour and very informative. Gave us enough time at each area to really take in the art and knowledge before moving on. The ear pieces to hear the guide was great added touch so you could still look around in the general area of the guide and still hear them. The Sistine Chapel was just breathtaking. The guide even escorted us to where we could get in line for the St. Peter's Basilica. Defiantly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Rome and wanting to visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel
