What to expect
  • Your morning begins right at La Sagrada Familia, where you’ll take a moment to admire the building’s dizzying, playful exterior. Skip the long lines already gathered outside and head inside, where you’ll have exclusive access to the cathedral before it has even opened to the public. Walk down the cathedral’s five aisles that are shaped like a Latin cross and admire the Catalan masterwork from the inside. You can check out the bright stained glass windows and soaring ceilings at your leisure while your guide gives you background on Gaudí’s fascinating architectural inspiration. You’ll hear why construction on the cathedral was begun in 1882 but halted in 1926— and why it remains unfinished. But there’s no rush: you’ll also have time to explore on your own. With an optional upgrade, you can have exclusive access to the Tower on the Passion facade, where after a short climb you’ll be treated with a spectacular panorama of the city.

Not as early as expected, good guide though
We booked very short term and we’re happy to find an early access tour which would allow us to see the basilica in a relatively quiet time. Not all participants were there as early as requested, so everybody had to wait. Those late comers should have to reimburse everyone for the wasted time: it was clearly communicated to be at the meeting point early.
The meeting point (metro exit) was very easy to find. For the price point I expected a much smaller group size (we ended up being ~20) and more exclusive experience.

There was a lot of process related to security and handing out audio devices, so we only entered the church at 10:15 at which time there were already hundreds of people in the church.

Oriol was a good and knowledgeable guide who explained to us a lot of the symbolism used by Gaudí as well as the more recent history of the building.

Need better customer relation skills.
The guide offended my friend. He said something about putting your phone through the scanner, however the way he phrased it it seemed like they might be keeping your phone for the whole visit. She sought clarification and he acted like she was stupid, then tried to make a joke of it at her expense. She was extremely displeased. We also were unable to visit the tower, which was a disappointment.

A superb architectural building
Dec 2019
It was a beautiful scene, from across the road & close up. In this hot afternoon sun, the most amazing architectural building, we visited - its history & understand that on 7th November 2010 the church of La Sagrda Familia was solemnly dedicated & declared a basilica by the Holy Father Benedict XVi, & became a holy place open for worship. The foundation stone was first laid in 1882.
Up till today, reconstruction & refurbishments have not stopped.
The church is 4500 square metres & more than 8000 people can worship here.
It now stands a spiritual symbol of Catalonia - a Barcelona landmark.
purchase tickets on line - we paid for a General ticket costing 14,80 pounds. (the ticket says, "the amount is a contribution towards the construction of the Sagrada Familia. You too are participating in this great work."

This was a great tour. Although I thought it was English only, it turned out to be bi-lingual. No worries as it didn’t take away from the beauty of the church.

Beautiful. Stunning. Neck straining as you find yourself looking upwards constantly ! Fabulous detail and our guide told the story well. Still a long way to go and a 2026 finish (to coincide with 100 years after AG's death) would seem optimistic
