Worst guide ever
Sep 2019 • Couples
We went with Peter as guide to Zugspitze on Sunday Sept 15. From the beginning it was the worst organized tour ever. It left 15 minutes late because of that lack of organization, and left four people behind because the office apparently had overbooked. The guide made many comments about this. Because it was a gorgeous day, traffic was delayed both ways - nobody’s fault, but we did not need to hear the explanation about 30 times (no exaggeration) over the whole trip. Nor did we need to hear at least a dozen times his opinion about government interaction that led to no extension of the superhighway 30 years ago. I think we lost one passenger he couldn’t account for on the way back (a few told him they were taking the train), he said he imagined they were taking the train as well. Sure hope so! And as we finally hit the outskirts of Munich, he began to review all he had said over the day. The bus got very loud with laughter and chat to drown him out. The worst thing - when I checked the reviews after he fact, you got this very same feedback in June 2019, and the guide is still performing at that level. Zugspitze itself is incredible, but this put a damper on a long and not cheap day.

Happy group tour!
My friend and I went with the “Happy Group Elizabeth” and our driver, and they were both excellent. She provided a lot of interesting information and was great at keeping our little group together.

Wonderful experience!
Jul 2019 • Friends
We had never visited Zugspitze before, and what a pleasant surprise! Our tour guide, Franka, did an excellent job of narrating things we saw enroute to Zugspitze. We had ample time once we arrived to visit and look around, despite the weather being cold and foggy The cable car ride was quite exciting, as we could see the Alps, Garmisch, and the lake. Beautiful! Upon our arrival at the top, we took Franka's recommnendation and went to the glacier. It was so much fun! Not knowing what to expect, we found complimentary toboggans and we rode down the glacier! Such fun! There was lots to see up there, and we really enjoyed our tour and time there.
The Zugspitze is well worth the visiit; however, keep in mind it's a higher elevation so the weather may not always be completely clear at the top. That shouldn't stop anyone, as it's an incredible sight!
We now recommend to our friends that they do this tour.

Fantastic views but horrible guide!
Jun 2019 • Solo
I went on the Zugspitze tour on Sunday the 30th of June 2019 and the guide was the worst guide I have ever encountered! This was not due to inexperience but rather a total lack of engagement. Droning with a mumbling monotonous voice about half normal guide information and half meaningless stuff - a lot of the travellers on the bus zoned out and just shook their heads at how bad it was. This is an example quote: "The paintings dates back many years to when they were painted"
The worst however was the total lack of structure up at Zugspitze where many had to ask him to clarify afterwards. I just listened to the meeting details and went off on my own. It was so bad that he actually lost one participant on the way back and the bus went on without her! He recounted what he had said and even that was easy to misinterpret.

The actual visit to Zugspitze was nice, weather was great, bus was OK, trip was a 100EUR and that was about 20EUR too much compared to the great trip to Neuschwanstein I did the day before. I definitely recommend against taking this tour unless you know that you will get a better guide.

Amazing views
Jun 2019 • Couples
We did the day trip to the Zugspitze from Munich with Peter our guide, very knowledgeable guy and Friedy the coach driver. It's a full day but worth it, cable car up to the mountain is pretty quick, we then got the train down. We went from blazing sunshine to snow capped mountain in the space of 10 mins. Spent a good 90 mins at the top even managed to get across to the Austrian side of the mountain plus had the obligatory beer and sausage. Well worth doing.

Well.....it was snowing and I mean snowing. We didn't get to see the alps but we had a great time being together as a family. Happy Elisabeth was our guide - she did a great job of keeping us informed about Munich and of places we would see on our way to Zugspitze.

Day trip to the top of Germany
Jun 2018
If you are in Munich, you must take a day trip to the Zugspitze. A short train ride away, you can take a tram to the highest Alp in Germany. We went up on the German side, ate lunch, then hiked around the summit on a real glacier. (There are a couple of restaurants to choose from.) From the German side, we were able to walk into Austria. The vistas are beautiful. We took the Austrian tram down and spent the night in a small village there. It’s a must if you are in the area

Expensive but worth it

The cable cabin price for a family of 4 is in my opinion over the top (€ 125). The view from up there is staggering but make sure it is on a clear day. The food and beverage prices are reasonable.
