If you are going to Versailles in the height of summer then know that it is going to be CRAZY busy and very hot. So possibly not the best circumstances for viewing such an amazing place. Having said that, If you do find yourself on the hottest day of the year in August at Versailles then you are absolutely advised to be part of a tour group. That way you will get the best out of your visit.
This tour met at a hotel near the Eiffel Tower. We booked the English language tour. There were a number of busses leaving at the same time and you were given a sticker and told which bus to get on depending on what language tour you had booked.
Our tour guides did speak very good English but it was as a second language so there was little in way of nuance or humour which you would expect with a native speaker. They guides were very informative and did a great job under stressful and difficult, overcrowded circumstances. However, because of the crazy conditions there was little chance to ask questions or enquire about various items. This was not the tours fault but Versailles needs limit the amount of people through the facility at any one time. With this tour you are also given a ticket to roam the gardens by yourself. BE WARNED: these are French style 17th Century gardens and not English gardens. There are few flowers and absolutely NO SHADE on a hot day. There are water features and lots of wide open walkways.
The tour guides give you very strict instructions about return to the bus for pick up. The busses are not allowed to wait for guests so if you miss the bus back it is your own fault. One last suggestion is to remember to bring your own water. There is no access to water during the tour so it is advisable to bring your own.

The tour guide, Karim, was excellent. However, it was unbearable hot and shoulder-to-shoulder in most rooms of Versailles. Fortunately, Karin’s tour company provided devices so amplified her voice wherever we went. Although we paid the cost of a ticket to see the gardens, we were advised that we had 1 hour which was mentioned in the beginning of the tour When we were released for the garden segment of the tour, Karim mentioned only 50 minutes. At least 20 of the 50 minutes was spent in the incredibly long restroom queue. Thus, we had only 23 minutes in the garden and appx. 7 minutes to make it back to the front gate where we almost missed the bus back to Paris.

I advise the tour company to allow additional time for the garden segment. Moreover, the ticket indicated that we would see the light show with the garden tour.

This tour has the vibe of being herded like a large group of cows. The ticket should not indicate garden and light show. First, we did not see the light show in the fountains and second, there was a insufficient time to explore the gardens which by the way had a separate queue with a separate ticket requirement.

This was not really worth the drive and the time. All the rooms are similar with different paintings of the kings and methodologies. We thought we could’ve been better if in this time we went to the Louvre because all what’s in the palace is different rooms with similar furniture. Don’t get me wrong of course the elegance and beauty is there in the way the marbles and paintings add they royal touch everywhere. But is it worth it during a short visit to Paris? I would say no. Also half the palace is under construction. The tour guide was very nice but was very low and the headset didn’t really help considering the crowds and many groups at the same time. The palace needs to be more organised in how they allow the groups despite the bookings.

The tour guides were great and very informative. Unfortunately the trip was too short and we found ourselves running around to try and see the gardens. The bus driver wasn't very good and made us feel a bit sick by jerking the bus all the time. Personally if I was to recommend Versailles to anyone I would suggest they hire a car and take their time to enjoy the palace with the audio book the palace provide

Because of problems on my end getting to the drop off point, I missed the bus to Versailles. However, I was able to take a cab and meet the group at the entrance. The tour group was helpful in telling me what to look for and helping me find my group, and the guide was very sweet and extremely knowledgeable.

I had a great time, and I would recommend this tour. If you're interested in spending extra time in the gardens (which I recommend), you don't *have* to return with the group, you can simply stay and get other transportation back to the city. (The cab fare wasn't outrageous; less than getting to the airport.)

Our tour started off in the typical way with a bunch of people trying to check in by name around one person with a clipboard. It seemed to be okay when we got a number and were sent to a bus to head off for our destination. Unfortunately that was not the case…we got to Versailles and were dropped off at the gates where we proceeded to wait in the rain for 25 minutes while our guide went in to get our tickets and headsets. We were then ushered into a dark lobby where he handed out headsets and then told us we would have a 10 minute bathroom break. Finally the tour began and we moved through the rooms in what seemed to be like a race for our guide. We moved through each room with a two minute unenthusiastic and dull explanation of what was there, no background , no little “fun facts” just a rote recitation of clearly the same spiel he gives every time. It never seemed like he enjoyed what he was doing or had any interest in being there. In fact he repeatedly said he had another tour he had to do after ours and before we headed back to Paris.

The tour lasted less than 45 minutes and at 10:40 we were told to meet our guide at the front gate at noon.

At this point were thankful to be able to go off on our own for a bit and we did enjoy exploring a couple of the rooms that we passed right by on the tour. We also had a wonderful visit to Angelina’s for drinks and pastries. We visited one of the gift shops and were headed for the gate just before noon…with no guidance as to how to exit the building (it was very deceiving to say the least as you must go to the right facing the parking lot), and so we arrived at the parking lot at 12:04 and our bus had left already! Two of our party had made it to the bus and one was almost closed in the door as she was getting on the bus, but when they asked about the other 3 of us they were told they had to go! Our family texted us the bus had left and where were we? We had been left behind! Thankfully we were able to catch another bus back to Paris but that was just by luck. Our guide was no where to be found and had told us to be at the meeting point at noon, not that the bus was leaving at 12:00 pm sharp. There was no consideration for the guests of this tour, it was clearly just get our money and that was it, move onto the next group. I understand that tours need to maintain a schedule but a small grace period for those paying at the gift shop or using the restroom isn’t a lot to ask. Sad to say I would not recommend this tour at all, find something else!

Easy to find meeting spot and bus to Versailles was air conditioned and comfortable. It was a very hot day so the skip the line part was perfect. However that is where the positive experiences ended. Within 10 mins we lost radio contact with our tour guide and had no way to find them. Unlike other guided tours I have been on, the guide did not wear anything to make it easy to find them, nor carry a small flag that could be easily seen above the crowds. This was so disappointing as we basically missed all the narrative. The only way to contact Paris City was an email address found on the ticket - sent an email right away to see if they could help reunite us with the guide - but never got any reply from them. We happened to bump into our guide just as they were finishing the tour and when we told them what happened they said the tour company wouldn't let them carry any sort of flag.

The gardens are beautiful but there was not nearly enough time allowed to explore them. This was advertised as a 5 hour tour starting at 2pm, yet we had to meet the tour bus by 5pm for 5:20 departure back to Paris. We arrived back at the starting point at 6 pm. Also, there is no "Fountains Show". There are fountains - I think only 4 of the larger ones operate in the summer but you'd likely only see them in operation by accident as they activate every 15 mins or so but the gardens are so big it would be very easy to miss the timing of the fountains. Versailles is beautiful and we will plan to go back on our own so we can have more time. This was not worth the $538 paid for 4 people.

Lack of places to rest and drink specialy when accompanied by children- only place to buy drinks at the exit and it is busy.
The train tour was painful on a rough road and dusty, it was very short, great disappointment as it was not a touristic tour but it was a simple transport between 3 stops and expensive not recommended at all.

The audio device was not practical to hold it near the ear to listen while you walk and without headphones.

It was very crowded during this pandemic
The places to see in the palace was very limited.

We toured with Julian on Friday 8:15am trip. Bus left around 8:30 after everyone was checked in and we entered Versailles at 9:30 shortly after arriving. The tour was great and informative with Julian. After the tour ended around 10:45 we had one hour on our own to visit additional rooms, the garden, gift shop and cafe. Bus left to go back to Paris at 11:50am. Recommend the tour and Julian to anyone that wants to visit Versailles.

The Versailles Palace was a manificient place to visit. The guide was excellent in terms of knowledge and provided a great story line on the building as well as the lives of the royal family. Love the wonderful pieces of art and of course the Hall of Mirrors that feature so much as a significant icon in 20th century history is a must see during the visit. The only issue was the wait for the tickets in the cold winter morning outside the heated comfort of Versailles. I think some thought should be given on how to be more hospitable to foreign visitors who are not used to the freezing temperatures in winter. Even the fountains were frozen!
