- 1House Of Waterford CrystalStop: 60 minutes - Admission includedAt the House of Waterford Crystal, there is a manufacturing plant, and brand experience in Waterford, where we produce crystal and give visitors an opportunity to visit the factory and see how we make our beautiful products. On the tour, guests visit the mould room where they witness mould making – a technique that has remained unchanged throughout the centuries, as the Master Blowers shape the molten crystal flawlessly with the use of wooden moulds and hand tools. The next part of the tour is truly magical, as visitors enter the blowing department where they see glowing balls of crystal transformed into majestic shapes as they are put through the 1300-degree furnace. The Waterford Crystal pieces are then hand marked for precision and accuracy, and they are then cut, sculpted and engraved. While getting this behind the scenes sneak peak of this highly skilled method of crystal manufacturing, visitors also see the high standards that the House of Waterford Crystal has for each and every piece that leaves the factory. The crystal is inspected at each stage of production, so each piece no matter how small goes through six inspections, and if it fails to reach the Waterford Crystal standards at any stage it is smashed and returned to the furnace to be re-melted so that the piece can be started again. The tour is fully guided and takes approx 50 minutes to complete. On completion of the tour, visitors can experience over 12,000 sq ft of crystal heaven in the largest retail and showcase of Waterford Crystal in the world. The retail store represents everything that is made in crystal, including a showcase on golf and sport, which is a major part of the international business at the House of Waterford Crystal. The main feature in the retail store is a centre dining table, with twelve Waterford Crystal Chandeliers on display. The lifestyle displays communicate the various brand stories including the Jo Sampson Collection, John Rocha, Jeff Letham and the core Waterford Crystal patterns. The product range includes Waterford Crystal, House of Waterford Crystal, John Rocha, Jasper Conran, Jo Sampson, Archive Stemware, Marquis, Lighting, Holiday Heirlooms and the new Waterford Crystal Jewellery Collection. Waterford Crystal continues to provide some of the most prestigious trophies to the world’s great sporting events made at the facility, and some of these trophies are on display in the retail store. The Crystal café is open seven days a week, a daytime cafe, the Crystal Café is all about great food using nothing but the best locally sourced seasonal produce supporting as many Irish suppliers as possible along the way. The menu offers café-style dining, incorporating scrumptious salads, soups, wraps, ciabatta’s and other healthy options, with fresh baking daily.Read more

I was a little iffy going into this tour as it seemed like a waste of time. I’m really glad my wife talked me into it. The first thing you should know is all day parking is right across the river pretty much kitty corner to the crystal company. Give yourself 10 mins. The tour itself was around 45 mins and you got to see pieces being made from start to finish. With blowing, molding, cutting, polishing etc. I had no idea how much work went into each piece. The staff were very friendly including the craftsmen on the floor. If you have children keep an eye on them, everything in that showroom is expensive ;)

We had no idea how Waterford crystal was made, but after an amazing tour with Mary we became true believers in the craft and skill that goes into creating such beauty. I would highly recommend taking the tour to gain a better appreciation of the workmanship and pride that goes into making each piece. The other thing that struck us was how relaxed and friendly everyone was... from the receptionist, to our tour guide, to the craftsman and sales people.

Great tour of the factory taking you through the history of Waterford Crystal and the making of it. Orla showed us around and we were invited to take photos and ask questions. It was great to see the craftsmen at work (I’m sure they must get fed up of tourists ogling them 😂) Be brave and hold the American football for a photo when asked 😉. You will appreciate more why Waterford Crystal is so expensive after this tour - all hand blown, hand designed and carved. Simply beautiful 🤩

Sean was our tour guide, the tour lasted about 1 hour.
They take you into another building and give you a brief history of Waterford. Then a short film, less than 4 minutes. They then lead you into the factory; moulds, firing, cutting, engraving. You get to see them at work. The tour can be interactive. I was able to break some Waterford glass, they passed a crystal football around to see & hold. In cutting room one of the gentlemen held up a piece to see it from the inside and then let me hold it. It was much heavier than I imagined it would be. Engraving room had some spectacular pieces and replicas of previous commissioned work.
We had seen two chandeliers at Muckross House in Killarney, one was darker in appearance than the other. I had asked about why the variation and our guide was able to answer my questions.
The showroom was spectacular! This is the finest crystal for a reason. Only perfect will do. The skill & artistry involved takes master skills. An art form once lost & recovered hopefully never to lose again. In the cutting room to watch them in action, it looks easy and they are quite quick but as you move down and see simpler pieces being cut by less experienced workers and their lack of speed you understand why it takes years to work up to complex works of art.
Taking the tour provides a much greater appreciation of this art form, talent &
discipline required. Never thought of myself as a crystal person but purchased several pieces so I can appreciate and enjoy them in my home knowing each time I look at them they will bring me fond memories of my tour and the staff that not only showed their work but took time to chat with us as well.
I also learned during my tour that Dale Chihuly had spent some time working here and one of the glass blowers had actually worked with him during one of his visits. Being from Seattle and knowing his work all over, this made perfect sense he would have spent some time in Waterford as well but it was a neat bit of trivia.
The tour ends in the showroom. I will add the staff that assisted us in the showroom was extremely helpful. She showed us similar pieces and let us know about some specials offered when purchasing one of our pieces. She also went over shipping, duty fees in detail to ensure we had understood what would apply to our purchase. She also informed us if any piece is damaged in shipping, what we needed to do to have it replaced. Overall a very great, educational tour and so very glad we made it!
Highly recommend, especially if you tour some of the great houses of Ireland and have a chance to see the crystal - the tour gives you a better appreciation for it.

Easy trip from Dublin to Waterford via the train.... booked a tour of the factory.... very interesting tour, waking thru the factory, great to talk to the artists, touch some of the crystal and learn so much about the process of their beautiful creations! Shopping after the tour is just a huge plus. Staff is very nice, helpful and knowledgeable of the crystal.

The tour was fascinating, it takes 8 years for a new employee to become a master at each craft. I was amazed at the talent of the various craftsmen and the exquisite products they produce. The baby grand piano was amazing. After seeing the hours needed and talent to produce each piece, I found the pricing reasonable.

Hi Jforney48,
We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your tour. Our craftsmen are mesmerizing to watch as they create their pieces, the attention to detail and the skill involved in the making of every piece is truly amazing. The baby grand piano is a big favorite with our visitors, each little facet hand sculpted by our master sculptors from solid blocks of crystal , poured from our tank furnace glued together using a glue created for crystal and a UV light sets the bond. We hope we will get to welcome you back to visit us again in the near future.
Many thanks,

Okay, the craftsmen were incredibly talented, the craftsmanship excellent and the tour guiding staff were knowledgeable, approachable and accessible (especially Sean). There is something amazing about watching someone at the top of their game in a speciality you wish you had. Our only rub with this experience is that it’s a tour about mass produced and large items. The showroom has items that are simply out of an average joe’s price range which is an awful feeling (prices start at €40-60 and climb to €20k). Also, having grown up around the Corning Glass Works Museum (and half my family working in it), I had expected a “seconds” area. While I understand that all the crystal is reused, it’s the imperfect items a lot of people I overhead (myself included!) were looking for. Overall, this is a tour that showcases the craftsmanship and talent, not a realistic place to purchase anything though.

Hi Bethany M,
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit with us here at the house of Waterford crystal. Our team were delighted to hear that you found the craftsmanship to be "excellent, and the tour guides knowledgeable, approachable and accessible" great praise indeed. Here at Waterford crystal we don't sell seconds, any piece that is found to be flawed is smashed up and added back into the batch as cullet. Every piece goes through six stages of stringent quality inspection before it receives our mark of excellence the word, "Waterford" on the piece. We hope you enjoyed your time in Ireland, we would be delighted to welcome you back to visit us here at the House of Waterford Crystal, should you return to visit again in the future.

Hi SpartanFIJI,
Its lovely to hear that you enjoyed your tour through our factory. It really is fascinating to watch our craftsmen create pieces from raw materials using skills that have taken them years to master. Our showrooms contain the largest collection of Waterford Crystal in the world, it is really enjoyable to spend time browsing through our showrooms, where alongside our production pieces you will see our spectacular Trophies and one-off pieces on display. Thank you for recommending a visit to us so highly.

My Wife, myself, my MIL and her friend all went on the tour.
This is well worth the money, they take you from starting with making the forms to ready to sell.
The tour is incredibly intricate, you start off learning about them making and carving the mold that will be used and the materials.
Then you move onto the blowing rooms where they take the crystal out of the ovens and mold it.
Then you go to where they get the crystal ready for cutting, including marking.
Then onto cutting, then engraving.
The process was mesmerizing to watch, we could have stayed and watched them blow the crystal into the forms all day, same with cutting of it.
Lastly the intricate designs that you can make with it are truly breathtaking and knowing how long it takes to cut all the grooves into just a crystal bowl is astounding.
Would highly recommend for anyone in Waterford it is worth the price of admission truly.

We took a 5 euro bus into town!
i understood the earings were not Waterford Crystal & I purchased 2 pair anyway. There is nothing on the box. Is it at least sterling silver? And where is it made?
Once tickets are purchased, how do we know when to arrive and when the next tour will start? We will be there on a Thursday in November.

Just turn up at a time that suits you. I think tours run every 30 minutes. They have a nice cafeteria that you can wait in prior to your tour starting. You just see the ladies at reception when you arrive to get your name on the list for the next tour. Its very well organised and you shouldn't have to wait long.

Just got on their website Google
"waterfordvisitorcentre" Says tickets are open tickets. We were part of a group so not sure I have a grasp of that but the website looked helpful.
Hi, planning a visit on 12 Aug however can't see schedule of tours, times? Also we're seniors over 65 but ticket purchase won't allow. So, do we purchase for under 65? Frank

We purchased our tickets on Viator's web site and seniors, as I recall, are called pensioners. Saves you a couple of bucks. You get a voucher that you trade in at the reception counter for tickets. A tour leaves every 30 minutes so you schedule your time when you hand in the voucher. Five minutes before the tour starts they announce it over the PA and you line up in a designated area in front of reception. At the end of the tour it empties you out into the company store.

Can't guarantee it but in all probability yes the craftsmen will be working, because without them there is very little to see and understand. Check on their website however that they are really open on the sunday you want to go.....
