Our group of 20 had a fabulous time on the Dark Tales walking tour with the delightful Melissa. A really insightful tour of the history of Sligo and it's association with Bram Stoker.

Bringing Sligo Alive with dark tales

Meliissa is a wonderful guide - passionate & informative. A great walk through the town - filled with lively stories about rogues, struggles, old landmarks. We ended up in the old graveyard at St Johns Church , full of atmosphere ! I definitely recommend this tour !

Great local Knowledge
Jun 2021
Went on the Dark Stories tour Saturday June 5th for a little somrthing different. Very enjoyable tour & plenty of local knowledge shared.
We were brought to Sligo Jail, Sligo Abbey, The Courthouse & then on to the resting places of the Stoker family with lots of little snippets along the way. Our group had the privalege of an inside tour of the Sligo Courthaouse which was an added bonus to a very, very good experience.
Would definetely recommend if your in the area.

We're from Sligo and we found that we knew very little about the dark history of Sligo. Melissa was informed and delivered the information with passion. The weather on the night was perfect and added to the atmosphere for the tour. Would recommend.

It was interesting to hear all stories about Sligo and its history and all the difficulties the city went through over the centuries.

Dracula Stoker Tour
Aug 2019
We joined Mel for the Dracula Stoker Tour as part of Heritage Week. The pre walk arrangements were very good. Mel was very quick to respond to emails. At the start of the tour Mel handed out tiny ‘medicine ‘ bottles which were a bit of a mystery. Their purpose became clear on the first stop: each one represented a character who was part of the narrative and we all found out what happened to our characters during the course of the tour. This was a great way of involving us. The distance and the tour were exactly as described and were perfect. Mel is an engaging speaker and could be heard by all the group. The pace was just right for a mixed group and we had the opportunity to ask questions if we wanted. It really helped us to understand Sligo and its history. Thanks to the Stoker Society of Sligo for sponsoring this tour. We will definitely do another of Mel’s tours next time we are back in Sligo. Thank you Mel.

Fascinating

We did the Bram Stoker Sligo walking tour (as part of heritage week) and had a fantastic time. Melissa was a great guide; having some fantastic stories to tell us about the Cholera outbreak in Sligo that built up a fascinating narrative and connection to Stoker's works. Would highly recommend to both locals and visitors.

Sligo History
Jul 2019
it was very interesting, as I like historical things. Annecdotal information adds to the colour of the community
The walking between historical points of interest was okay, but the duration of the talk made it hard standing in one spot. A place to sit for some of the tour towards the end of it would have been nice.
Ending in the Connolly's Pub was okay for a finale, but it was dreadfully noisy and couldn't hear anyone when speaking. We left before the end.

Thanks, Jayne for leaving a considered review. Yes, it can be long, standing for up to 2 hours and covering 3.5 km. I do try and keep my stops to a max of 10 minutes but when I have bigger groups like the night you came it can take a bit longer to get around the town. Connollys can be busy and noisy alright, but just to point out to other potential guests, the tour stories finish outside and the pub is an added bonus or not unfortunately in this case! People can come in or finish outside, as I know not everyone drinks. Sorry I didn't get to say bye, I actually went to ask the staff for more stools. All the best Mel
