Its all romance in Killarney National Park now as the rutting season has begun. The roars of the big red deer stags can be heard as they fight over the women, a bit like the dance halls of former years. Our smaller breed of deer the Japanese or Sika are playing the same game as they strive to win the attention of the females. I am glad you enjoyed the guided walk, and thanks for the great review so until the next time. Slán go fóill (bye a while)

Yes there is a lot to see quite close to the town as Killarney National Park which covers an area of some 26,000 acres stretches right into the centre. So for generations local people who wanted to walk were in a wilderness area within minutes to experience the solitude of the woodlands, the walk by the shores of Loch Léin to places like 15th century Ross Castle. You will probably see some of our native red deer on the way, and maybe sika deer introduced here in 1865. Some people like to see where the love scene in the Hollywood movie Ryans Daughter was filmed in 1969. Thank you for the great review, and I hope you can return some day. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

I really enjoyed this walking tour through Killarney national park. Richard is a very experienced guide who grew up on the opposite of the park. He knows every tree and route through the park and even speaks Irish. What more do you want? Definitely recommend it!

Yes I was born just across the road from Killarney National Park, and for me its a labour of love walking with people to show them some of my favourite places. I also love the Irish language so its great when people speak it to me, and I also speak some Spanish. I mightn't know every tree but I have a great interest in them, and I would like to see more native ones planted in Ireland ,as we have only a small percentage of woodland in our country. Thanks very much for the great review. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Richard took us on a great hike through parts of the park which we might not have found. He grew up here and calls the park his back yard. We saw so much natural beauty and he has a spot where we were able to see and photograph a huge herd of deer in the lake. Spectacular! He

I knew you would enjoy the lake here in Killarney National Park you could compare it to the huge lake you live near back home. There is a lot of variety in the two hour walk, and I was happy to walk with you through the many pathways in the woodlands, and of course the river walk as well. Charles De Gaulle loved this area when he spent nearly two weeks here in 1969. I hope you can all return sometime in the future, and thanks very much for the great review. Slán go fóill (bye a while)

Richard gave us a tour through the trees and goalf court, accompanied by his lovely dog : Rua. It felt like an "unconventional tour", as if your grandpa took you to the secrets paths he discovered through his numerous walks. It was a cosy atmosphere and we saw great landscapes !

Sometimes I include a little of Killarney Golf Course in my walk in my two hour guided walk as golf is very popular here having hosted the Irish open four times in recent years. The non golfers in some groups walk with me as they say its less stressful. I am glad you enjoyed the scenery, and thanks for taking the time out to write a review I appreciate it very much. Slán go fóill (bye a while)
