About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- pati3470 contributionsRecommend Western Tours and TalesGer, you were wonderful, fun and gave us the best tour of Galway. Very informative, spent time explaining all areas of the city. Gave us many insights to each area of town, how developed, how to walk to them, and also good restaurants, where the locals eat. (not tourists!)Written 7 December 2024
- PippaG420 contributionsVery informative on the history of Galway. Loved it! Thank youI was the only one on the tour, but I loved every minute of it, even though it was a very hot day! I got to see a lot of things , hidden in back streets that I would have never seen on my own. Like the old ruins they found when they were renovating a building.Written 20 September 2023
- Susannasadventures0 contributionsBest walking tours in GalwayWalking Galway with Ger was such a pleasure! Not only he shared tonnes of interesting facts about this vibrant town but filled it with plenty of most memorable stories about the inhabitants throughout the centuries. I learned a lot about the 14 tribes, how it all started in Galway in medieval times and now I know what to do in Galway. Thank you so much Ger! T'was a pleasure to meeting you!Written 30 August 2023

We took a tour just today with Gerard of Galway and he was an amazing guide. We met him at the suggested spot a bit early and after greeting us by name we went off to explore the city.
Gerard took the time to explain each stopping point in detail but was in no way rigid in his approach and infact we delved off into parts of America’s history and quirks as well as even talking about the recent Ireland loss in the Rugby World Cup.
Unless I’m mistaken since it was my wife who booked the tour, I believe it was scheduled for 90 minutes when in fact Gerard educated and entertained us for 2 1/2 hours.
We highly recommend Western Tours and Tales and if you’re fortunate enough to have Gerard as your guide, so much the better!

Thank you, Mike for your positive review . It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife, Laurie and exploring Galway city together. I like taking time explaining interesting but often complex topics. I hope you both had a pleasant holiday and got a flavour of the culture and traditions of the West of Ireland 🇮🇪
Thanks, also, for reaching out to my Social media channels - much appreciated!

Ger is brilliant! The tour was really good and he gave us lots of facts, some of which I didn't know! It's not my first time in Galway, however Ger still took me to places I had not been before, and gave me information about every location. He knows his facts very well and made the tour interactive, answering all of our questions about the city and its history. I would definitely recommend it, especially due to his friendliness and knowledge!

Hello again Henry, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave Western Tours and Tales such encouraging feedback. We are thrilled to receive such a great rating from you and family's recent visit to Galway. Indeed, you did know quite a lot about the city attractions, yourself! We like getting our guests involved in the experience and thanks for your kind remarks. If you or friends are back in Galway again, we'd love to host you. Best Wishes, Ger WTT Galway.

This was a really good, compact view of Galway’s main area. Our tour guide, Ger, knew a lot about the area and we appreciated his history and stories. Recommend particularly if you only have only a short stay in the city.

We at Western Tours really appreciate getting positive feedback like this one from our Canadian guests. Thanks Shannon-Marie for your vote of confidence on my Guiding skills. I love sharing my history knowledge with our visitors to the city. I'm glad you both enjoyed the experience and the city.

We were paired with another couple despite signing up for a private tour (the explanation was that the agency was short on guides). Our guide, Gerard, seemed inexperienced and often was lacking in-depth knowledge about the sites we visited. He sometimes stopped in places that seemed ill-advised (e.g., narrow sidewalks where we were blocking foot traffic). He sometimes seemed impatient with us when we wanted to stop longer at a particular location.

Hello GotNoMansion,
You did not post this under Booking name but are assuming you were with us this week. We appreciate your business and thanks for taking the time to leave this review. All feedback is important to our Tour Guiding service, be it positive or negative, as in this case.
I would like to apologize for any shortfalls you encountered while with us. You rightly said that you expected a private Tour but ultimately had to share with another couple. This is a valid point and in this case my guiding colleague rang me at short notice stating that she was unwell and was unavailable to work that morning. I was unable to find a replacement guide at short notice and I myself explained this situation before the start of this particular tour. To solve this issue for future travellers, I have asked Guides who work with us to make sure Western Tours and Tales (WTT) receive at least 4hrs. notice if they are assigned but unavailable to work at a particular tour.
I have over seven years experience of guiding Tourists both on City walking tours, Riverboat sightseeing cruises and Celtic Revival tour and am not quite sure how you found me ‘inexperienced’. I do ask at regular intervals if guests any questions on the interesting content and if there’s no follow-up, we move on to the next attraction – during this particular tour, I do not remember you asking any relevant question on my content!
You were visiting a city, some of who’s landmarks and medieval buildings are indeed on narrow and busy streets. At times these locations need to be carefully navigated which we advise our guests about .
I do hope you enjoyed the remainder of your stay in Ireland’s mid-West.

I highly recommend Ger Considine and the Western Tours and Tales company. My mom, sister, and I were lucky enough to learn about the history of Galway while walking around the beautiful city with Ger. He was very knowledgeable and made sure he customized the tour for our interests. He made our first visit to Galway wonderful!

We met Gerard at the agreed upon meeting point right in the heart of Galway. Right away, he greeted us by name and got to know a bit about us! Gerard took us around the city with an amazing depth of knowledge and cheer. We even all took a picture together! Having just us in the tour group make the experience so much more intimate than other tours and Gerard was always willing to customize any part of the tour (including what spot to watch the rugby match at!) the entire experience was incredible- highly HIGHLY recommend!

Thank you, Lauren and family for such a kind and glowing review of our small Walking tour of the city. I like to make every visitor feel welcome, to connect with their guide on a personal level and benefit from my ‘insider’ knowledge!
My small team is thrilled to receive such a great rating and valuable feedback. I also have a background in sport and enjoyed hearing about your Rugby career. Do enjoy the Rugby in Paris, the remainder of your trip and safe return to Dallas. Gerard at WTT.
