About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sherpa4271980 contributionsAbsolute great tourThis was an amazing tour, our tour guide John B was a delight and had so much knowledge on the area. All his food recommendations were spot on too! Even though the Cliffs were closed for the day John did the absolute most showing us other sights in lieu of missing out. Being able to experience the wild Atlantic Ocean power more than made up for it, couldn’t wipe the smile off our faces. Great job Lally tours, we loved it!Written 8 December 2024
- pati3470 contributionsLally tours, can't get any betterThis review is for both Michael and John B. Excellent guides. Both gave way more information than I ever expected and could remember! They were both personal, timely, factual and funny. Loved them both. Lally tours, you should be happy to have both of these men for they made our trip and visit to Ireland exceptional.Written 7 December 2024
- 361oisino0 contributionsEngaging and beautiful tour! This tour is a must do and I couldn’t recommend our tour guide Gerry more. I grew up in Cork city and was back from Chicago with my partner. We got this tour to see the cliffs but the tour is so much more. Gerry covered all of Irish history, locally and nationally up to the present day. His approach to telling the stories made it digestible and engaging. Which makes this tour a must do for locals who haven’t gone to the sights in a while as well as visitors. It has something for everyone. The sights are just beautiful! I got some amazing photos. If there’s even a chance of rain I’d reccomend boots or waterproof shoes.Written 7 December 2024
- Adventure365230582040 contributionsAmazing views, stories, and feel of the true, traditional ‘Ireland’This tour was fantastic!! The bus ride was lovely and our tour guide, John B, had so many stories. You could tell he grew up here and knew locals! We got incredibly lucky and the Cliffs were fully visible! We even had a rainbow after a light sun shower! So beautiful. The additional stops on the tour, the cave, the stunning Burren, the castle, and the pub in Doolin for lunch were such cool additions and very worth the full day!! Lunch was delicious and fresh from the sea! The cave was beautiful and unique. Highly recommend this experience!!!!Written 4 December 2024
- M3887YSkaitlyns0 contributionsAbsolute perfection! John B is the best!Lally tours & specifically John B. Are AMAZING at what they do! I did the Cliffs of Moher, Aillwee Caves, & The Burren tour from Galway. And I can honestly say that I wouldn’t change a thing or say there was any room for improvements. They have this experience down to a science & John was so friendly, fun, & knowledgeable! The place you stop for lunch, Fitzpatrick’s pub, had the best seafood chowder since I’ve been in Ireland! This tour is worth every penny & really gives you a great experience.Written 3 December 2024

- bethhV301BZ0 contributionsAwesome time. The tour with John B was fantastic. He shared interesting information about the scenic area of Burren, as well as the cliffs of moher and all the areas in between. And he was a skillful driver on very tight roads!! - alishakatemartin0 contributionsPerfect day - Thank you Barry and BrianA perfect day on tour with Barry as our guide and Brian as our driver - I’d love to go again in the summer! Brian did a great job of navigating us around safely with a lot of the roads flooding due to storm Bert and cows to navigate around! The gushing waters from the storm prevented us being able to visit the caves but Barry was super quick to think of alternatives for us to enjoy so the tour was still great…thanks to him the day was full of beautiful, gorgeous views!! Barry was extremely charismatic and provided perfect commentary throughout the entire day! Loved his knowledge of the matchmaking festival, signs that we would pass, and all of his wonderful recommendations! He even provided a map for us to pick out our names from during the journey which I enjoyed being able to spend a few moments gazing at. He is a wonderful, funny storyteller and multiple members of the tour remarked at how touching his stories were when mentioning the history of Ireland. It was an absolute treat to listen to him for hours, and he has a clear and delightful accent which only added to his charm. The cliffs were a great sight to see and Barry and Brian were very thoughtful and kept a close eye on the weather, planning the timings around this to ensure that we would get the best experience. We had plenty of time to explore at our own pace and see everything we needed to. Barry was treating us to some lovely music throughout the drive and even taught us some Irish words - I loved the word for butterfly, although that sounded much better in his lovely Irish accent than when I tried it! A great day, thank you Barry and Brian, such a good experience that I was sad to have to leave at the end!Written 27 November 2024

I had a great day on this Lally tour with Michael as driver and guide. I booked it at the last minute based on a recommendation from a local resident whom I got to chatting with. When a local recommends an activity, I feel fairly sure it's worthwhile! The last stop would have been problematic due to road construction that made the usual bus parking lot unavailable, so Michael asked us if we would prefer skipping it for more time at the Abbey, and no one on the bus objected. We had ample time at the Abbey to explore the Abbey itself, the gardens, the little church, the grounds, and time for lunch (not included) at the very pleasant cafe.
The first stop at the fjord provided an opportunity for a bit of shopping, maybe a snack, certainly some photos. We had other quick stops for photos along the way. It's a beautiful part of the country with a unique landscape.
Many thanks to Michael for his skillful driving on narrow, winding roads, stopping for the occasional wandering sheep in the road, and his informative commentary. (If you have a tendency towards motion sickness, this is the kind of road that could bring that on, so plan accordingly with your preferred medication. Michael compassionately made a couple brief stops for someone who was feeling unwell.)

Although the trip was good, the driver/guide left something to be desired. He talked continually, often repeating the same information over and over. We had several non-English speaking guests on board and he was almost rude in constantly shushing them during the ride. He stated to all of us that their talking was interfering with him being able to do his job. Well, sir, you are on an intercom and we could hear you fine and the quiet conversation these non-English speaking women were having didn't bother any of us- only you. I can't imagine listening to his constant repetitive talking when you may not understand any of it. We sure didn't dare speak to each other if he was talking after that. He was also a bit rude in constantly reminding folks to BE ON TIME; we felt almost nervous to get fussed at if we might be late, so we felt a little rushed at our stops. The views from Diamond Hill were gorgeous and 2 hours is not enough time to spend there plus work in a meal break. We did not receive very good communication from Lally; the meeting point was changed without our knowledge and since we were driving it caused us to have to call them and scramble to find parking. We were not given a detailed itinerary, and had no idea about what some stops entailed.

Hi There,
Thank you for your review and feedback,
I'm disappointed to hear you didn't find your guide to your liking, thankfully that is far from the norm for the majority of our guests and their guides, as the vast majority of reviews testify to.
Never the less this feedback helps us to improve and develop and will go towards Guide training in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention.
Regards
John

Touring Ireland without a car is easy. I have used Lally Tours in the past. Booking the tour the was simple, the price was good, and the length of seemed appropriate. It included sites we wanted so we could just enjoy the ride.
This particular ride was not as enjoyable. The bus was older and very cramped. Every seat was packed, and the ride seemed bumpy even on the paved roads in Galway. Lally Tours has the person driving also provide narration during the trip. Michael was lovely but his microphone picked up everything, including the first couple of rows in the bus.
The ride through Connemara is breathtaking, and Kylemore is even more spectacular in person. The number of stops are appropriate through early afternoon. Lunch was a bit rushed, but good. We could have ended the tour here with maybe a few quick photo stops along the way back to Galway. But the tour just keeps going.
The afternoon portion of the trip is way too long. There were at least 4 or 5 additional stops even when running behind schedule. The last stop was in the town of Spittal, approximately 25 minutes outside Galway. Its a long day and people had planes and trains to catch, yet we stopped for 30 minutes. It's a cute town, but not necessary.
And then the bus breaks down....
It happens. However, the microphone that was never turned off during the day was now completely silent. Michael was busy trying to get the bus in gear. The lack of communication made the situation worse. Another bus finally arrived to complete the trip. Lally Tours sent me a note they would look into training better.
It was a bad ending to a lovely morning.

I went to the Connemara Day tour and it was great! We met the staff at Galway Coach Station. They were smart enough to meet just in front of the Galway Coach Station so that it is not tough to find the meeting point. Staff was exceptionally sweet and kind!
Our guide was Michael. He was incredibly sweet, considerate, funny and punctual. Throughout the tour he was narrating interesting facts, tales and history of all the different areas we passed by. He even played traditional Irish music for us to enjoy!
For the tour we had a choice between Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey. Due to the weather everyone went to Kylemore abbey. Tip - Buy the ticket online through Larry tours as it is 5 euro cheaper.
We stayed there for 2.5 hours and had enough time to visit the abbey, the gothic church and the garden. We had great lunch there and must try desserts. There were multiple stops during the trip and Michael constantly asked if we wanted to stop somewhere. We stopped at many beautiful lakes, coffee shops etc. Only suggestion is that rather than many small stops, it would be better to have fewer longer stops. But other than that it was a great trip for my friends and I!

Trip to Connemara and Kylemore Abbey was absolutely awesome 😍😍😍 We took millions of fab pictures, and had great few stops to look around. Our bus driver and tour guy Gerry Sweeney was brilliant, with all the stories that he was telling us about, and how carefully he was checking on our stops if all the group is in the bus already. And we could even feed sheep and goats 😍🥰😍🥰 We can highly recommend Gerry and Lally Tours to everyone, who wants to visit Ireland around, because you can learn a lots of new bits and truly enjoy the whole experience 😍😍😍

A great way to see Connemara, and particularly Kylemore Abbey. I was initially booked to hike Connemara National Park but the rain was fierce and the tour guide was able to arrange for me to go to Kylemore instead for an extra 10 Euro. We had plenty of time at Kylemore, but I wish we'd had more time at the other destinations.

I have been doing the Connemara tour with Gerard and the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren tour with Jonh, the two tours were truly amazing, and our two guides too. They were really nice and shared with us an impressive part of their knowledge about Irish history and culture during all the bus ride.
I was able to take a lot of amazing pictures, and I will keep a lot of beautiful memories from those tours and from our guides.
I really enjoyed those moment, and I highly recommend those 2 tours!
During the Connemara tour I choose to go to the national park instead of the Kyllemore Abbey, and I recommend this choice. I was able to do the biggest walk of the park (6,7 km, 400m ascent) in less than 2 hours (the time you will stay at the park) but I recommend to be in shape and to hurry up to be able to stay at the top a little bit longer as the view is truly astonishing.
Same for the Cliffs of Moher, I do not recommend to spend to much time in the visitor center, but instead going for a walk around the cliffs. I have mostly done the southern part of the cliffs, the track is really safe and the view is very impressive.
Do you know why the doors of ancient typical Irish house are cut in half in the middle? Or why is there a lot of stone walls in the Irish mountains? Me neither before meeting Gerard and Jonh, and you will most probably learn it during the tour! You can also come with all your questions about Ireland and Irish cultures, and the guide will be really happy to answer them.
I hope this review will help you to be convinced by this experience.

Our trip to Kylemore Abbey was lovely. We were a big group of 40, all from different places and different ages, and yet our driver John Cave managed to make the experience engaging for everyone! From history to geography and Irish culture, John shared lots of information with the group and made the day go by flying. Even 5 days later I’m still getting comments from the group of students saying that it was a great trip and they learnt lots about Connemara. I highly recommend this day trip with Lally’s tour and particularly our driver and guide John Cave.
John, thank you for making the experience so memorable for everyone.
On behalf of IH Galway and our group of students, thank you! Juliana Guinzburg

I highly recommend this day tour that takes you into some beautiful areas of Connemara. On Sept. 24th the weather was less than ideal, but the mist seemed to suit and enhance many of the views, and gave us a brilliant rainbow over the Bens. Our driver and guide, Michael, provided informative commentary. I particularly appreciated the back story he shared with us about Kylemore Abbey and the tragic romance of Mitchell and Margaret Henry; and (as Titanic buffs) my family immediately knew the significance of the property near Rossaveal to which J. Bruce Ismay (the managing director of the White Star Line) had retreated after his escape from the Titanic under questionable circumstances. The fjord and mountains should be a must-see for all travelers visiting Galway.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for leaving us a review and for recommending us so highly, we really appreciate it. Connemara is a beautiful part of the country on a clear day, but there is something really cool and ominous when the mist and fog sets in over the towering mountains and many lakes. It sounds like you guys learned a lot from the day, with Michael only too happy to provide some back stories and history of Connemara. Looking forward to welcoming you back on tour in the future.

I enjoyed especially our stop in Leenane, with the Sheep and Wool Centre with its museum, shop, and cafe overlooking the beautiful Killary Harbour and Fjord - the only fjord in Ireland. I had the freshest homemade scone with butter/jam/cream and an enormous cappucino. Too bad there wasn't time to see the museum as well. Michael our driver and guide had a great personality and sense of humour, drove very safely, and provided just enough information interspersed with photo stops and quiet moments to reflect. He went out of his way to be helpful. Kylemore Abbey was the main highlight, and we were there for a couple of hours, visiting the gardens, woods, cafe, and especially the tour of the Abbey itself, which was given by a former student when the nuns ran a school there. The history of the Abbey and its original occupants is fascinating. it began as a castle and a surprise gift to the first owner's beloved wife. Definitely take the tour. There is also a free shuttle bus from the house to the gardens, great if it is rainy or you are like me a slow walker.

Hi Sophia,
Wow what a fantastic review! we are so thrilled you had a wonderful day on our Connemara and Kylemore Abbey Day Tour.
The Abbey is so rich with History and we are always delighted to share it and its gorgeous Victorian Walled Gardens. The shuttle bus they have between the Abbey and the gardens are great for those rainy days and general accessibility for all!
The Fjord is also an incredible sight on our tour, and yes the only one in Ireland!
Thank you so much for leaving this lovely review! We hope to welcome you on tour again in the future.

My husband broke his hip 3 months ago and is limited with just one crutch. Is this a trip that he will be able to do

Hello Jackie, I think if your husband is able to board and get off the coach he should be ok. There is no need to do a lot of walking because there is a shuttle bus at Kylemore Abbey to take people from the park entrance to the Abbey and gardens.
However, have you thought about putting your question to the tour operator direct? I went with Lally Tours.

Is this day trip suitable for kids under the age of 5?

Kylemore Abbey certainly worth a visit but I feel a day on the bus may be a bit of long for your kids

Hello, I will be traveling to Ireland with a group of 3 or 4 women, arriving October 6, 2019. Is this trip offered privately to small groups or is this with a large group on a big bus? We are interested in the Connemara Day Trip. Does this trip include a drive along Sky Road?

Hello, the trip I did with Lally Tours was on a coach with other travellers. It is not a private tour. I found our Tour Guide and coach driver had a good manner, he told us a lot about the history of the area whilst being very entertaining and professional in his role as a tour guide.

Hi, i sent an e mail with a questions but i didn't get an answer, so i decided to write here. I am interested in Connemara Day Trip but before purchase i would like to know:
1. Should I be prepared to do a lot of walking? How long will we spend in Connemara NT?
2. Do i need to bring my hiking shoes?
thanks in advance

There is some walking but not long hikes. I think the whole day is in the National Park and they just stop every so often for photo ops. The longest break is at Kylemore Abbey and they have a shuttle you can take to gardens from the Abbey. Hiking shoes might be a good idea incase the places you stop are muddy. Hope this helps!
