We booked this trip weeks in advance and were disappointed when the weather turned really bad the 24 hours before the trip. On the plus side, our guide was very informative and we enjoyed his perspective on current events plus his history lessons. I believe his name was Peader and in addition to being a good guide, he was a very good driver which is not an easy thing in a large bus on narrow rainy back roads. We were happy to take the day off from driving.
The fact that something like the Aran Islands still exist in this day and age is truly amazing. Our horse and buggy driver was born and raised on the islands and provided us with a lot of the island's history. It is quite challenging to live on these remote islands relying on the summer tourist industry to pay for a whole year of expenses but the residents seem happy to do so and appear to have a lovely community bond.
Due to the yucky, rainy day, our boat trip to the Cliffs of Mohr was cancelled for our safety and there was no refund but we were able to spend more time at the Visitors Center at the Cliffs.

I can’t say enough about the absolutely fantastic time my husband & I had on this all-day tour! Our tour bus guide was fun and patient, and kept us informed throughout the journey. We headed straight down to the ferries for Inisheer and once boarded, you could feel the excitement of all the passengers. The trip to Inisheer was blustery but fun with a few wet surprises for some. Inisheer itself was a rocky delight. You had your choice of transportation and we chose the tractor ride (aka hayride, but enclosed) but some chose bikes, or the horse-drawn open wagon, or hiking. No matter, we got to see the Island from the bottom to the top and learn how the residents have adapted to a rugged life on this rock-strewn ancient island. Thank you Tina, our tour/tractor driver!
Next, we headed out on the ferry to view the base of the Cliffs of Mohr from the water. It was incredible! And the slight roughness of the sea made it an exciting ride, which we loved! Other’s in our group, unfortunately had eaten too much at lunch on the island, then “gave” it back to the Atlantic! But our “ride” was exciting and we laughed all the way to the cliffs, then “Oohed and Ahhed” at the magnificence of those cliffs, up close & personal! After docking back at the landing, we reboarded our bus to take us to the top of the cliffs. The modern multimedia museum there is awesome, and the walk up to the top sections of the cliffs turned out to be not as strenuous as they look. There are steps leading up and easy pathways. I am 67, with a titanium hip and Scoliosis, but I was able to walk up just fine. But there are golfcart shuttles for those who are unable to walk it, so no worries. They’ve got you covered! All in all, this was the best part of our entire Ireland vacation. I beg you to take this tour, either from Galway, Dublin, or other locations. You do not want to miss the Wild Atlantic Way! (A tip: keep your masks on duringvthese Covid times…. we were lax and now believe we got Covid from some other bus passengers, as it was a closed environment, and we felt comfortable lowering our masks, but getting friendly with other passengers was our downfall and we both got Covid that 2nd week of our trip!)

Great tour! Our guide was awesome, his name was Gerry I believe.
If you have a car with you, booking the tour isn't all that necessary, as you can just purchase a cheap ticket on the Ferry when you get to Doolin and pay to park at the cliffs. The perk is that you don't have to worry about any of the details. You may need to buy the tour in order to take the ferry at the base of the cliffs, but you could just stay on the ferry on the way back and not get off when you're "supposed" to. No one is going to make you get off.
Depending on if the tour bus and ferries are on schedule or not, you may feel a bit rushed. I did just because I wanted to take lots of photos and videos.
I highly recommend the tour if you don't want to have to worry about any details or don't have a car or want to make sure you see the cliffs from the sea

Thank you for your review, I think. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Of course, you don't have to book a tour if you have a car. Although anyone who has driven the roads around here will agree that it's more relaxing to let Gerry do the driving, plus you get his insights into the area. As for your insider tip in relation to the ferry, I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to do the Cliffs of Moher Cruise because you think you've discovered a 'cheat' on the boat. Our ferry partners don't take kindly to stowaways and if you're thinking of attempting this, I'd bring a swimsuit, just in case you're caught.

As many others have said, this is primarily a very bumpy bus tour marketed as a cruise. Please update the information on this page so people like myself who don't do well on long, rough bus rides can know to look for another option. From reading the description and the noted itinerary, it sounded like this was primarily going to be a cruise past the cliffs and out to the islands rather than a long bus tour. That's not to say the tour is unpleasant, it's just not what I was lead to expect from the listing. I'm clearly not the only person who's had this issue so I would seriously recommend taking these complaints seriously before someone litigious books this tour and gets surprised.
The guide was friendly, the only thing I would change is the information on this page to be better representative of what to expect, I would not have booked this if I had understood it would be two long bus rides to and from a brief ferry ride.

Such a great trip and wonderful day spent with Gerry! We thoroughly enjoyed getting to hear about the history of the region as we saw the gorgeous sights out of the bus window. We lucked out with weather and had a beautiful, sunny 16 degree day that let us see loads of things in the distance, too. The island was so fun - though our advice is definitely to get the £10 bikes or pay for a horse ride! Even with bikes we found the time pretty tight to fit more than the shipwreck, castle, and grabbing a bite to eat. If we had walked, not sure we would have been able to do all three!
The cliffs were, of course, amazing and an incredible thing to see. The tower was closed but that didn’t stop us from having a great time with great views. On the way back, Gerry played music and many people napped before we got to the last stop, Dunguaire castle, where we had time to get out an explore a bit.
Would definitely recommend this day trip for anyone visiting Galway! :)

The tour began precisely on time, and the introduction given by tour guide John was not only the required “ground rules” discussion, but was clever and humorous. It set the tone for a full day of excellent touring. The itinerary was world class, including small Irish towns, The Burren, Innishear/Aron Islands and the stunning combination of the Cliffs of Moher by both sea and by land. The return to Galway was cleverly by a different route, adding interest and value, and with time for a nap (after 10 hours!)… do not be intimidated by the call long tour, it was one of the best we have experienced anywhere. Lastly, the coach was very clean and comfortable, but at-seat device charging needs to be added to make this tour perfect.

Although our tour guide was very nice and gave a nice tour, this tour desciption is worded poorly. We signed up for what was billed as a boat tour of the Aran Islands with a view of the Cliffs of Moher. Instead, it was a bus tour with a short boat ride to Innisheer, the closest and smallest of the Aran Islands. Then the return trip took us past the cliffs, and then we got back on the bus and again went to the cliffs. Although the cliffs are amazing, we hD already just been there because we wanted to see the cliffs from land and this tour said nothing about then stopping at the cliffs park and viewing area. This is a bus tour sold as a sea island tour. We had fun with a good host (Damian) but buyers should be aware this is a bus tour and you'll only see the nearest part of Innisheer where the village is. I recommend hiring a horse drawn cart and getting a tour while you are there (an additional 10 Euro per person).

Nothing surprises me any more.
This review is in general fairly accurate, this is a bus / coach tour. In fact in the 'What to expect' section of the tour description is says "Once you board your coach for the day." That's the very FIRST line.
Apart from that I'm delighted to read that the tour you got was the tour you purchased. Unfortunately, the tour you purchased was not the one you wanted. Maybe if you'd read the poorly worded description, it could have saved us both a lot of typing.

Paedar was an amazing driver/tour guide. He kept everyone entertained the whole way, gave lots of interesting and useful information about Ireland, and was incredibly considerate and inclusive. I would love to go back to the Aran Islands and spend longer, but this day trip was unbelievably good value and it was nice to have a taste of what the Aran Islands have to offer.

Gerry was a thoughtful and entertaining guide. On our tour day, the boats to Aran Island were canceled due to a storm, so instead the tour guide took us to the Caves of Aillwee and then to the Cliffs of Moher. It was a thoroughly informative tour with many great stops along the way for photo Ops. There were a few late people for the tour and Gerry kindly turned around the bus and doubled back to collect them. He told entertaining jokes and although we missed out on the Aran Islands because of bad weather, the visibility at the Cliffs was great and the day was full, including an indulgent stop at Hazel Mountain Chocolate. Even though it was a fairly big bus, Gerry drove diligently on the narrow roads. Thanks!!

Thank you for your great review of our alternative land based tour Our ferry partners strive to operate as many days as possible but unfortunately there are days when it is just not possible, On these days, we operate an alternative land based tour schedule which I'm delighted you enjoyed. To be honest, there is so much to see and do out here that on days like this the biggest issue for us is what to do and not do so as to get as much out of the day as possible.

Our daylong trip to the cliffs of moher was excellent. The bus driver Damien was excellent, he made the trip! Damien gave great scientific, historical and cultural information and his Irish accent made the experience very authentic; also he was hilarious make sure you request him as your driver. The bus drops you off at the ferry dock then you take a boat to the Aran islands, DRESS WARM because even in July it was ice cold on the water. The Island is nice, nothing amazing but unique in its landscape. Then it’s back on the boat to view the cliffs, make sure you get the correct boat, 1 goes to the cliffs then back to doolin and 1 just goes straight to Doolin. Hold tight on the boat, people fell due to the waves. After the boat drops you off Damien will drive you to the top of the cliffs where you can walk around and take pictures, it’s very scenic and beautiful. Then it’s a slightly different way home and some more jokes from Damien, all in all it was a memorable experience, I can’t recommend it enough!
