About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 149harrietb0 contributionsWe enjoyed Dublin because of Austin!Austin knows Dublin inside out and was a good storyteller, but some of his stories rambled. He did take us to additional areas at our request—we did have to walk back to our hotel after the tour though.Written 17 September 2024
- Roam298847787150 contributionsA must do!We had a wonderful time with our guide John Caffrey. He was well versed in the history of Dublin, and eloquently told us all the stories he could fit into 8 hours.Written 12 September 2024
- uttermom0 contributionsPerfect history and culture day in DublinBrendan sought our input in advance and put together the perfect Dublin walking tour that suited our interests. He was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and insightful. I would DEFINITELY use him again and recommend him without hesitation.Written 12 September 2024
- lawrencegY1288PU0 contributionsGem of a tour!!One of the best 4 hours spent touring Dublin. Brendon had an agenda but deferred to our expectations making it a custom tour. The tour went way beyond pub crawling. He guided us to hidden sites, filled us with lore, facts and history and yes we had a pint and whiskey periodically. At the end we felt like locals who had made a new friend. Thanks Brendon: Larry, Lynn, Charlie and Cindy.Written 11 September 2024
- kennethsQ1859WB0 contributionsA Walk around DublinCiaran Thornton was amazing He met us on time and customized our tour, it was more like a casual walk with a good friend. Ciaran has a wealth of knowledge of the city and an extensive background of the history of Dublin and Ireland. We would do the tour again just to hang out with Ciaran.Written 9 September 2024
- Jack_Rgr740 contributionsSee the best of Dublin and learn more than expected in only 5 hours..!!Brendan was a knowledgeable and personable guide. He customized the tour for our preferences and needs.. resulting in him spending additional time with us.. beyond what he had committed. He researched our possible Irish Ancestry making for interesting conversations, offered a locals knowledge on everything from Oscar Wilde tidbits, to government operations, to artists displayed in the National Gallery. Our two couple group enjoyed Brendan’s tour, as well as him personally. Our experience indicates you too would enjoy your time with BrendanWritten 9 September 2024
- addisonu7020 contributionsGreat tour! Our Sights and Pints tour was a great way to start our time in Dublin! Carl was incredibly informative about Dublin and Ireland as a whole. We did the tour in the evening which I really enjoyed because the sites we went to weren't crowded. Of course we couldn't go into any of them but Carl gave a great overview (plus some good tips) which helped us decide the places we wanted to go back to visit the next day. The pub stops were fun and also informative! It really was a great balance of "sights and pints." I would highly recommend this tour, especially with Carl!Written 9 September 2024
- X4830TKgregd0 contributionsTour of DublinWe had a terrific tour of Dublin. Our guide was John Caffrey and he really did an excellent job at bringing out the history of Dublin and the Irish people. He really made history come alive for us. He also made accommodations for our specific needs (my wife’s artificial knees and my diet restrictions). All in all, a great experience and one that I can truly endorse.Written 9 September 2024
- N1558TMcaroly0 contributionsIncredible tour with Garvan and loved our Dublin experience! We booked this tour and guide after a friend's recommendation from 8 years ago and it exceeded our expectations. Dealing with the tour company was efficient and professional and a very easy process. Garvan showed us his passion and deep knowledge of the history of Dublin. He used maps and a guidebook and kept us very interested. Garvan was able to show us the highlights and included a nice mixture of history and culture. We loved his stories and learned so much. To keep it fun he also took us to some cool pubs -The Beer Temple/Galway Bay Brewery and also Kehoes and educated us on the local beers including some lessons in Guinness pouring and drinking. We could have stayed and hung out with Garvan all weekend. We loved seeing Christchurch, City Hall, Dublin Castle, Trinity College, St. Stephens Green Park, HaPenny Bridge and the National Museum. It was a highlight of our trip and Garvan is the BEST tour guide!Written 8 September 2024
- 190michaelh0 contributionsGreat tour-Request Austin! This is an incredible tour and a MUST for any Dublin visit. We got a great overview of the city and enjoyed a few pints! If you go, I suggest requesting Austin as your guide. He is extremely interesting and knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend a few hours with to really get to know the city and its history. One of the highlights of our visit to Ireland.Written 8 September 2024
- marlym3890 contributionsSights and Pints with CarlCarl gave us an awesome tour of Dublin filled with history and great conversation. I really enjoyed our stops in the pubs and Carl made my first taste of Guinness memorable! He also pointed out some hidden gems I otherwise wouldn’t have known about including the Chester Beatty museum, a great falafel restaurant and a yummy spice box after the tour. Highly recommend this tour and guide.Written 8 September 2024
- 273arlener0 contributionsAmazing day in Dublin with John.My husband and I had the pleasure of touring Dublin with John Cafrey as our guide. From the moment we met, John's enthusiasm and warmth set the tone for an unforgettable five hour walking tour. It was our first time in Ireland and John's knowledge of Dublin's history and culture was truly impressive. His passion was infectious and it was clear that he loves what he does. His ability to balance informative content with fun anecdotes and humor made the tour special. He kept us entertained the entire time. If you are looking for a guide who is not only knowledgable but also fun and engaging, I highly recommend John. Thank you John, for a great day in Dublin!Written 7 September 2024

- B796YQrachelg0 contributionsThe perfect tour! This tour was so much fun!! We learned so much history about Dublin while also visiting some of the oldest pubs for a few pints! John Caffrey was our tour guide and he was awesome! He tailored the tour to our interests (history, pubs/pints, + our fav band U2) :-) and was an absolute wealth of Irish knowledge. John recommended the best places to shop and eat…the seafood chowder at Sheehan’s, the gelato from Cloud Nine and the hot chocolate with whisky at Ladurée! He even taught us several Gaelic phrases! I highly recommend this tour (and John of course). It was a perfect day!Written 5 September 2024

We spent a beautiful morning around Dublin with our guide Cathal, who was really good at organizing the tour in such a way as to show us so many things, studying the route in order to maximize the experience and minimize travel between places. He told us many interesting stories, peculiarities, traditions, curiosities, filling the experience with many extras compared to a self-made tour such that in the rest of our little vacation we almost felt like we already knew the city. Totally recommended, this tour is an experience that truly allows you to immerse yourself in Dublin to the fullest and our guide Cathal was really unique!

John Coffey provided a marvelous walking tour of Dublin. He was punctual, professional, energetic, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. We are visiting Ireland as a family of five (2 adults, 3 teenage kids) and he met us on Monday July 18 for a casual stroll through all of the key highlights of the City, including incredible stories on the City’s history and the people who make it so remarkable. The tour included St Stephen’s Green, Molly Malone, Trinity College, the historic post office, several bridges across the River Liffey, Temple Bar, Christ Church and Dublin Castle. We could not possibly have had a better host. Thank you, John!

My sister and I had an amazing morning with Carl the day after we arrived in Dublin. I only wish I could have recorded his outstanding account of Irish history and culture. He carefully curated our time together to reflect our interests and the fact that we had visited a few iconic places the day before. His passion and profound communication skills engaged us from start to finish, and created a superb platform for us to explore Ireland over the next two weeks. Thank you Carl!

We spent several hours today walking the fascinating streets and sights of Dublin with expert guide John Caffrey. We only had a couple of days in Dublin and this tour was the clear highlight. John is a great guy and his head is chock full of history and stories about Dublin, its hidden nooks, crannies and gems, all described in the greater context of whatever time period he is discussing. He is obviously passionate about what he does and he takes the tour but not himself seriously, and the result is a delight of a time. I have a much better feel for the city having now viewed it through the eyes of an exceptionally well-educated local. I cannot recommend this tour with this guide highly enough. Thank you, John and DTG tours.

My sister and I had a wonderful time exploring Dublin for the first time with our excellent guide John Caffrey. He is passionate about the city and has a vast knowledge of the history, (fun) facts and anecdotes that are part of Dublin.
We learned a lot and recommend everyone to book this tour.
He told everything with so much enthusiasm, even the rain didn’t bother us.

Our guide John Caffrey was a complete wealth of knowledge, all explained with great enthusiasm and humour. Our tour not only took in the great city of Dublin, it's history, both ancient and more recent but also brought clarity to some of the English language's popular expressions as well as important historic events that shaped the city and country.
The tour was very complete and I would not hesitate this guide. He will be part of your positive experience of Dublin.

Prior to this tour, I had all but given up on walking tours—I’ve just been disappointed so many times by walking tours that lacked historical depth and nuance. This tour restored my faith in them. Garvan fully delivered on a superb overview of Irish history (such as one can learn it in the course of ~4 hours), replete with historical detail and nuance, and his enthusiasm for the subject matter and love of Ireland is contagious. 10/10 would recommend.

We had the Fantastic Walking Tour of Dublin as a work event. We met John Caffrey at St Stephen's Green on quite a cold Dublin afternoon and immediately started to get some great insight into the history of Dublin and Ireland! The tour moved around the city and John was a great guide in both knowledge and humor. We would easily recommend John and the Dublin Tour Guide Company for future events!

Cathall brought 2000+ years of history to life by placing the buildings and geography of Dublin in their historic context. Tales of characters the exploits of characters from Finn McCool to Bono livened the tour. A debate on whether taking some current World leaders on a tour would be fun raised the tone over coffee.

I recently went on a guided tour of the city of Dublin, and I can honestly say our tour guide, John Caffrey, was one of the best I have ever encountered. His knowledge of the city's history was second to none, and had a real passion for sharing his insights.
We really appreciate John taking the time to cater the tour to us--we enjoyed our time with him.
