- dawnhG1763UN00The magic bus (van) tour of Southern Ireland 🇮🇪Our guides were Dave and Andrew- both able to entertain and drive in expert fashion answering all questions great and small and able to pivot quickly with changes in weather and activities- saw big attractions and true Irish living and culture- spectacular views and amazing people
- hybrasilian00All the best of hidden Ireland in one outstanding tour!If you want to get a first hand view of the best that Ireland has to offer, this is DEFINITELY the way to go. Every stop was fantastic, the drivers are amazing and full of information that enhances the experience, and even the drives were so picturesque that they left one feeling completely fulfilled while still wanting more. This tour exceeded expectations in every way. We are already planning our next Ireland visit with a longer Vagabond tour experience. Our drivers, Dave and Andrew, made us feel like welcomed guests while confidently navigating the narrow roads and hilly terrain. They saw to our travel needs and made the trip that much more magical. Thank you!!!
- carolinecQ4432OA00I highly recommend this tour company! My husband and I had the pleasure of taking the 7-day Driftwood tour a couple of weeks ago. Our guides were Darran and Paddy. Both guides knew about all the places we visited and were genuinely nice to talk with. While it's a scheduled tour, they gave us the opportunity to make additional stops to see more sights if the time allowed. We never felt rushed or that we missed anything because of time, but more time in Galway would have been better. It was so nice to have your time in Ireland planned out, and you can let someone else do all the driving. I could take a nap or talk with my fellow travelers! This tour allows you to see the beautiful countryside and historical sights and time for shopping. The nightly accommodations are charming, clean, and comfortable. I don't think we had a bad meal while in Ireland, either. The people of Ireland are so kind and make you feel very welcome. I returned home and immediately told all my family and friends about this tour company. Schedule with them. They are the best!!
- elizabethlR3114EY0011 Day Driftwood tour was everything I hoped for and more!I find it difficult to express how amazing the 11 Day Driftwood tour was. Andrew, our guide, took such good care of everyone and was funny and kind and knowledgable. We even had a 2nd guide, David, for part of our tour so we were doubly well taken care of. The group was perfect. I enjoyed that the group was small enough to get to know each other and to enjoy each other throughout the tour. We saw so many beautiful sights. The hotels were all wonderful! The food was excellent. The sights were fabulous. And Andrew was absolutely the best! I literally loved everything about this tour. Thank you Vagabond! This tour was everything I hoped and so much more!
- 229benniea00Best of IrelandThe eleven day Driftwood Discover Ireland tour was more than I expected. We visited so many places and took so many photos. Our guide was the best, he went above and beyond many times to ensure we had a great time. The hotels were great. Definitely want to do another tour with Vagabond.
- Philamiga00Keep exploring!Fab.U.lous! Good craic indeed with Tony as our fearless guide. This was an active adventure rain or shine. Beautiful landscapes, heartfelt history and fast friends were made. Highly recommend!
- N5336PLlindaw00Best trip ever!Wow is an understatement. Words cannot express how wonderful this tour, our guide Danny and Vagabond Tours made our bucket list and best vacation ever happen
- 19Kitty5600Beyond expectations!I never thought I would fall in love with Ireland and its people, but our 7-day Driftwood Treasure Island tour of southern and western Ireland sealed the deal! We loved exploring the countryside on the backroads and going where the big tour buses couldn’t go. Yet, we still were able to see major sites like the Cliffs of Moher and were given plenty of time to explore on our own. The inns and hotels were all excellent and we were welcomed warmly by the owners at the smaller inns when we arrived. Breakfasts were awesome! But, the best part was sharing our journey with our guides, Darran & Paddy. They were so informative, friendly and genuinely had the skill and compassion to take good care of all 15 of us. I would choose to do the trip all over with no changes!!!
- Sue P00Vagabond tours- the best way to see IrelandWe had a fabulous tour with Jason on the 11 day Driftwood Discover Ireland Tour. It was everything we could have hoped for after planning to go to Ireland for the past two years. Everything was planned out for us, the hotels were wonderful, food was great. Jason gave us plenty of information, without being too much. Our group of 13 got along great- we had so much fun. This is the way to tour- small group, off the beaten path- I’d go again in a heartbeat!
- Safari4210200Comprehensive and fun tour at a relaxed pace!Great experience. Nice accommodations. We definitely hit the highlights. Our Guide, Damien, was knowledgeable and a fun, engaging personality. A great value for a tour we’ll never forget!
- Katetiger00Amazing experience! This tour was amazing! Our guide, Brendan, was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable about Ireland's history, and very entertaining. The weather didn't always cooperate, but Brendan always had options when we couldn't do one of the planned activities. I can't wait to go back!
- Safari1967932064000Vagabond 7-Day Magnetic North TourThis tour goes to Northern Ireland and northern areas of Ireland. Our guide was Andrew - he has a great sense of humor, took us to some places you would never see if you were travelling with a large group, shared many great stories and folklore, and took great care of our group. My favorite places that we visited were the Causeway Coast and Slieve Leage Cliffs. If you are an active person, Vagabond is a great way to go. We did some great hikes and saw a lot of beautiful countryside. All of the hotels were nice; the best accommodation being Mount Falcon Estate. This was my third Vagabond tour and I look forward to doing more. I like the small group size and the single supplement is reasonable, unlike some travel companies that charge far more for a solo traveler.
- 461hennies00Vagabond Tours exceptionalI went on a specifically designed 15 day tour from Kamloops, BC Canada. We began our tour with Brian from Dublin into Northern Ireland, into western coast of Westport. Our second half of tour was with Glen. The whole tour was amazing! There wasn’t a bad day and that’s including the weather. Both tour guide/drivers were knowledgeable with local history and historical facts. Their sense of humour was endearing. Our group came from one city except for one who used to live in Kamloops and now resides on Vancouver Island. We always were ready to go in the morning for the next adventure. I can’t name just one place to be my favourite but the beautiful bog and the coastline were my favourites…and there are the colourful buildings in the towns, the live pub entertainment. This was truly an amazing adventure!
- julesandsmitty00Awesome Vagabond Driftwood Tour!!!When you book a tour you have expectations on what you would like to see and experience, all I can say is our Driftwood Tour, guided by Brian Barry exceeded our expectations is every way. Brian's knowledge and stories/history he shared made any travel time fly by! He took us to historical sites, but his side trips to unique sites on the backroads of Ireland added so much to the tour. Some of the hotels we stayed at were at beautiful country settings, if we stayed in town they were located in perfect locations. One highlight was the sheep dog demonstration - so enjoyable to watch the dogs show there skill! Ireland is such a beautiful country!! And lastly, maybe a little thing, but we were able to have our laundry done at two locations in Dingle and Clifden which was perefect timeing. We went with 8 other friends and we would all highly recommend booking a Vagabond Driftwood tour!!!
- MarshaShelburn00Fabulous!You’ll never find a better tour of Ireland. Our guide was Danny, who drove the 12 of us to wonderful places. He was funny, considerate, extremely knowledgeable, energetic, thoughtful, and an amazing driver over terrain of all sorts. My iPhone is packed with photos of gorgeous sights. He avoided touristy places insofar as possible and adjusted plans to every change in weather. We enjoyed great breakfasts, good Irish music, castles, wild ocean cliffs, and excellent history of Ireland and the Troubles.

This trip has been years in the planning with our friends. I was unsure exactly what to expect from our guided trip around the North and West of Ireland but it was incredible. Our guide, Brian Barry, was phenomenal. He was organized, gave us great recommendations at each stop, and was always providing us with information and stories to keep the drives entertaining. I cannot wait to go back and visit again.

Just finished a 7 Day Treasure Island tour. Terrific experience. Our driver and guide Danny was a wealth of knowledge, displayed great Irish humor and was helpful at all times. The Mercedes bus was maintained in tip top condition throughout our tour. Ton of credit to Danny and also staff for selecting wonderful hotels for us to stay at. I definitely recommend.

Ireland was the 33rd country I've visited and this was the absolutely BEST vacation experience we've ever had! Took the 6 day Ancient Ireland tour in June 2023. We stayed at Grand Canal Hotel (the pickup point) the night before to eliminate any stress.
Our guide Andrew was exceptional. Experienced driver & guide and very passionate regarding the love of his native land. He's the sort of fella we all wish we had as a friend back home. I'm sure all of the guides are awesome but honestly can't imagine a better experience.
Our group was small (only 6) and friendly so we had just a wonderful trip. Hotels we stayed at were all very nice, not a bad one in the bunch. We had some wonderful views from our rooms. Hotel check-in was seamless each time thanks to Vagabond and Andrew's attention to detail.
I know many folks like the longer tours, but honestly this seemed like the perfect length to dip our toes in the island. We spent many days in Dublin following the tour and felt much more confident in doing so thanks to the time we spend with Vagabond.
If you've been looking at these tours for years like we have, the time has come to make the plunge. Just do it. You'll never look back at this trip and regret even a moment.

Really enjoyed this tour. Denise was an awesome guide - she knows her way around, is very organized, took us to great places to eat, is very knowledgeable about Ireland and is friendly and fun. I really appreciated not having to worry about logistics. All of the hotels were nice and I saw new places I had not previously visited. Wicklow was beautiful and I also enjoyed visiting Kilkenny and Waterford.

Just finished the 6 Day Ancient East tour with Driftwood. We had done the 12 day Adventure tour previously with Vagabond. Both tours were incredible but the Vagabond more active. They do a great job mixing in all the different types of Irish sites: Castles, abbeys, church ruins, ring forts, stone circles, dolmens, light houses, gardens, distillery, beaches etc. I can't say enough good things about the jobs they do and the professionalism of their guides. We had Jason for this last trip and he did incredible.
It is tempting to try to drive around Ireland on you own but you're on the wrong side of the road, the road are narrow, and you could never find all these spots on your own. These tours are the best way to experience Ireland

Thank you so much for joining us on another tour, you will be a VagaExpert soon! We are delighted that you had a great experience again, with Jason this time. They are two very different tours so it is great that you got to see what both are like and take in all Ireland has to offer.
Hopefully we will see you again for a third!

A few years ago we did the 11 day Driftwood Tour and were very pleased with our experience. We decided to return and take the 6 Day Ancient Ireland Tour. Once again we were very happy with the tour. The guides were Mark and Pat. Mark was our guide on our previous tour and we were happy to see him again. The guides are very knowledgeable and tell good stories about Irish history without being boring and also tell you some fun, interesting facts. This tour goes at a good pace, usually departing the hotel around 9 to 9:30, giving you plenty of time for breakfast. You arrive at your next hotel around 5pm. I like that they make a loop through town and point out things you can see and do during your own time in the evening and also point out different restaurants. All the places we stopped for lunch were quite good and all the evening restaurants were top notch. All the hotels were clean and had very friendly staff. A full, filling breakfast is included at each hotel. A few of our favorite stops were the monastic site at Glendalough, the tour of Jerpoint Park, Hook Head Lighthouse and the Rock of Cashel. In Waterford you must try the Viking virtual reality experience, what a fun time. We will always remember the coffin ship exhibit that we visited which tells the sad tale of the famine and what the passengers endured. If you are going to Ireland for the first time this is the best way to go. We certainly hope to come back again for another tour and hope we see Mark and Pat again.

My 75 year old Mother and I took the Castles & Kingdoms tour with 10 other Americans and it was truly a wonderful experience! Edel was our bus driver/guide extraordinaire. Edel and the sites of beautiful Ireland made this a trip of a lifetime.
One is always nervous when embarking in small spaces with a group of strangers. Edel set the tone for a light-hearted and fun loving gaunt through the south western coastal area. We stayed in a castle one night and met true sheep-herders who still use dogs to get their sheep off the mountain to their farm (not the commercial sheep dog demonstration). We took a horse drawn buggy to a beautiful old abbey. We explored ring forts, Ireland’s version of Stone Henge, the Cliffs of Moher and the Cliffs of Kilkee. We are at some adorable pubs and restaurants and the food was truly top quality! I was shocked as I never really thought of Irish food as excellent fare, but every meal was wonderful!
The ONLY bummer was that we came so late in October we weren’t able to see Skittery Island and the other boat adventure that was advertised for the tour. Edel didn’t give us a chance to feel sorry for ourselves though, as she instantly thought up something creative for us to do instead (I think that day we saw the Cliffs of Kilkee, which were stunning and IHO better than the Cliffs of Moher!). There were no massive crowds and it was a lovely hike down the cliff on a safe, paved trail.
Overall, it was astounding and SO worth it! The small group truly felt like a family by the end, so don’t hesitate to sign up even if you are on your own. One of our favorite travelers was a woman who was traveling solo! We chose to eat together often, even when we could choose to eat on our own! If you do the tour, make sure to ask for Edel as your guide. She is adorable and makes the whole adventure that much more fun. Bravo, Vagabond!

Hello Ann, thank you so much for your 5* review. It's fantastic to hear both you and your mother had a great experience on your castles and kingdoms tour with Edel. It sounds like you really experienced all of the activities. We're sorry Scattery Island wasn't available but the Kilkee Cliffs are certainly a great replacement. We always aim to avoid the crowds to make it more enjoyable for our guests, the hidden gems are the best anyway. Thanks again for the great review. Rob Rankin, Owner.

This tour was an excellent way to visit the southeast corner of Ireland. Our knowledgeable tour guide, Bebhinn O'Malley, loves Ireland and she brings the refreshing charm and accent of the Wild Atlantic Way to her interesting narratives. The accommodations are nice-to-luxurious in the Pembroke Hotel, Waterford Castle, Bayview Hotel and Blue Haven Hotel. For travelers in October, pack lightly and bring LAYERS of casual clothing with a waterproof (not water-resistant) outer layer and waterproof shoes. For the tour company, I recommend having smaller groups (maximum 8) on short tours so travelers can get to know one another better and savor their shared experiences. Also, I recommend eliminating the Blarney Stone (time stealer), and the distillery and brewery tours. Arriving at all the hotels by 3:30 p.m. would allow time for travelers to enjoy local flavor, walk or swim along beaches, and spend extended time in museums. (Leaving the towns at 9:00 a.m. or even 10:00 a.m. does not allow any shopping/discovery time in the closed shops and offices.) Arriving at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 or 7:00, leaves no time to explore and/or get the feeling of each town's environment other than pubs. For Bebhinn, 5 stars. For the itinerary without the changes, I award 4 stars but with the recommended changes, it would have been a 10!

My wife and I did the Castles and Kingdoms tour in October 2019. The entire experience exceeded all of our expectations. Edel was our guide - she was knowledgeable and entertaining. What a positive spirit! Kudos too to KimI I am not going to drone on and on about what we did/saw. That's what the Vagabond website is for. Ireland is beautiful. People are very friendly. Don't overthink this - if you want to see and learn about Ireland and you're not some over-the-top Diva - DO THIS!

The Driftwood 6 Day Ancient Ireland Tour far exceeded what we imagined, thanks to the quality of the tour and our guide, Rhys.
I traveled with my wheelchair-bound mother, so a quick note about accessibility challenges. Traveling with a wheelchair is doable depending on one’s level of mobility, but it’s not easy. This may limit what you are able to see, but you can still see a lot. Our tour was thoughtfully curated to include some of Ireland’s most renowned cites, but more enchanting, it took us off the beaten path. The small group, coupled with our guide’s insider knowledge allowed for flexibility. There is a daily itinerary, but usually a few options therein.
Rhys brought the tour to life with, charm, kindness, humor, fascinating history, and a willingness to do anything the situation called for. He was intuitively dialed into the group’s energy and mood, knowing when to tell a joke, when to share a history lesson, and when to play music.
While we managed this tour in a wheelchair, I would not classify this trip as “accessible” per se. In many cases, it was only because of Rhys’ readiness to take up the challenge of pushing my mom’s wheelchair where I couldn’t, and to call ahead to make special arrangements wherever possible. Driftwood puts a great deal of care into every component of their tours, from the delightful people they work with to the carefully chosen destinations and openness to personal and group preferences, not to mention lovely boutique accommodations.
