About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Cosmopolitan6093320 contributionsFun day trip!Great walk with our guide Gillian who knew a lot about the plants and ecology. Kevin drove us on a tour and provided some comic relief. Note that the roads can be windy, so some might have some motion sickness. Also, the lunch spot doesn’t have anything both gluten and dairy free but the shop across the street does!Written 14 September 2024
- O4655KJsusanm0 contributionsChoose This Tour Out of DublinThis tour was worth every penny and is one of my favorite memories of our trip. Matt was a fabulous guide and driver. He tailored the timing of our stops to the wants of the group. He was very professional, funny, and informative. His enthusiasm was contagious! He cared a lot about the safety of everyone in the group as we climbed over rocks and crossed narrow winding roads. I cannot recommend him or the full experience more highly. Communication from the company was excellent too! (PS To Matt's boss: He deserves a raise.)Written 13 September 2024
- tracylJ9489EZ0 contributionsDublin day trip to Wicklow mountainsThis was a great tour! Our driver Kevin was great! His stories and expert driving allowed us to sit back and relax. Such a fun day!Written 12 September 2024
- brucesX4151XI0 contributionsDublin Must-DoI had no idea about the history of Newgrange and Knowth until I took this trip. It’s crazy to think about them being older than the Pyramids and Stonehenge. And, going inside Newgrange was great. Matt is a great tour guide who went the extra distance in explaining the monastery ruins we visited.Written 11 September 2024
- oncleiroh0 contributionsVery nice but can be improved for the hikersIt is a nice turn. The driver was nice. We were very impressed by all the explanations he gave us during the drive. It was very interesting. The only thing that disappointed us is that we don't have enough time to do the longest trail in Connemara National Park. Because we need around 2,5 hours for this trail and we have only around 2 hours before the bus living. In addition to that, we lose around 30-40 minutes of the walk in the national park because we are not dropped at the entrance of the park, and we have to reach it first. But it is an interesting trip and you have nice landscapes. Thank you again!Written 11 September 2024
- DCspace0 contributionsFun Day Touring Wicklow MountainsThe entire day was a big hit. Terrific van ride and our Guide/Driver Linda made sure that everything was fun, informative and just as promised. She was great as was the 8 hour tour. Will tell many friends about Hilltoptreks.Written 6 September 2024
- lisak57850 contributionsFantastic Day Trip - Matt was an awesome guideThis was a terrific day trip. Our driver and guide, Matt, was outstanding and passionate about Irish history and culture, so we learned much more subject matter than what was covered specific to our stops. This is also an outing which is less dependent on good weather than other countryside adventures. Highly recommend!Written 3 September 2024
- ColeenB20 contributions5 Stars for Powerscourt Garden and Glendalough tourLinda was a wonderful guide! My small group day tour to Powerscourt and Glendalough was amazing! She was incredibly knowledgeable, warm and funny! The day was planned very well, with a stop for lunch in Enniskerry. While it was a bit foggy way up in the mountain top of the Wicklow mountains, there were incredible views over the blooming purple heather and glacial lakes. I highly recommend spending the day in this incredible area, with Hilltop Treks.Written 2 September 2024
- ElleMeno0 contributionsGreat trip, long day (would have paid same for 1/2 day)Really well run tours! Matt was our tour guide and bus driver. Really interesting guide with tons of knowledge. The tour at Newgrange and Knowth was amazing! The day could have ended after this tour and gone back to Dublin and I would have happily paid the same amount of money. The abbey and monastic site were interesting, too, but after lunch (and the bus seats are made for people with very short legs) I was ready to head back to Dublin. Just prepare for a long day--bring water and snacks, and prepare for a variety of weather -- we went from rain to wind to bright sun over the course of the day. Highly recommend! I just wish more companies offered half day tours.Written 27 August 2024
- B8834LEkellyw0 contributionsWonders of WicklowAn amazing day. We were pleasantly surprised with the charm and beauty of the Wicklow area. Wicklow Mountain National Park, The Sally Gap, Lough Tay, the Guinness Lake Glendalough and its 6th-century monastic site. Kevin our guide was great!!Written 23 August 2024
- margaretwA1771UK0 contributionsFascinating! This was a well organized tour with just the right amount of time at each locale. Knowledgeable driver/ guide and local guides at the sites. The sites were amazing and the history fascinating. Highly recommend !!Written 16 August 2024
- jsilverman830 contributionsNewgrange and Knowth were awesome! The tour had 24 people on it, despite the website saying there would only be 16 max. The coach was small, but comfortable with USB chargers (but no wifi). The guide, Matt, was awesome -- super nice & entertaining & informative. We spent almost the entire time at Brú na Bóinne and while there we did the tours of Knowth and Newgrange, plus had time for lunch and shopping in the gift shop, as well as looking at this little displays/museum in the visitor center. The 2 sites were amazing and super interesting, lunch was fine, and the displays were pretty meh. We also stopped at Monasterboice and Mainistir Bhuithe which were cool old sites as well.Written 15 August 2024

- Tom A0 contributionsBe careful when choosing a guided tour.First I’d like to explain that Kevin gets 5 stars for his job as driver/guide. He ticked all the boxes as far as driving safely, explain sites and answer questions. My issue is the website should explain a little more thoroughly that if you chose a guided tour, that means you won’t be able to see the house or gardens. Maybe I didn’t read thoroughly but I had hoped a guided tour meant of the house and gardens themselves. We were surprised that means you actually miss the house and garden portion of the tour. Also to someone in only fair physical condition the hike is slightly strenuous. I don’t think we were tricked or anything, but am more disappointed that this isn’t explained more thoroughly while choosing this option.Written 13 August 2024

This tour was awesome. The amount of people on the tour was great. Just enough people where it doesn't feel congested. Johnny was a great tour guide. He kept us entertained, educated but didn't inundate you with historical facts and figures.
Most importantly, the horses were amazing, funny and fitting for all riders. All staff for the riding were friendly, funny and filled with equestrian expertise. The trails were majestic. I have added respect for horses and riders alike.
Each stop was filled with the right amount of time for pictures, food etc. Book the tour, it's worth it.

We had an amazing time on this tour! Our tour guide, Johnny, was the best! He had so many great historical facts and funny stories about the area as we drove to each site. We really enjoyed the horseback riding through the forest and every stop on the itinerary. The monastery was one of our favorite things we saw. We had decided to do this tour last minute on the final day of our Ireland trip, and it turned out to be one of our favorite days out of our whole vacation!

We had a great time on this day trip--even with the rain in the afternoon! We appreciated the van drivers' driving through the area along with the information that he shared. The horses were gentle and steady. Lunch was fantastic and authentic in Enniskerry.

Had an awesome ride. The trail was interesting through woods and along a farm track, with a couple of decent canters. Beginners were catered for, so everyone had a decent ride. Lunch at ‘Poppies’ was delicious, with a good choice of home cooked meals. Matt (tour guide & driver) was brilliant, providing a history of Dublin and Ireland as a whole. Glendalough is scenic and the monastery ruins certainly make for great photos. The weather was not great but we still had a fabulous day. Thanks Matt!

First, our driver, St. Kevin, was excellent. The roads in Wicklow are narrow and winding and he navigated them perfectly. Also, his playlist on the bus was very good—a wide variety of genres.
The views and scenery were very different from the urban landscape of Dublin. Enniskerry is a delightful, quaint village where we had a few minutes to walk around and grab lunch.
The horseback riding was a lot of fun. We have done many vacation trail rides in the states and Canada, and this was among the best. Good horses and helpful guides.

The horse back ride was great for beginner or intermediate riders. Experienced riders would not appreciate this trail ride very much. The views were not as breathtaking as they could have been but we went on a rainy day. The village where we ate lunch was quaint, very small with very few shops. The trip to Glendalough was long although our tour guide was amazing and we learned so much about the land and its history from him. The ruins were definitely a site to see but did not need to be there for 1 1/2 hours. Then another hour and 15 back to Dublin.

Awesome for solo travelers. Cozy tour bus. Richard was our guide and he was brilliant, so friendly and very knowledgeable. Had jokes, too! I could tell he takes pride in his work, professional without being too serious. The horseback riding was fun. Would recommend bringing your own boots as the ones they provided were in less than great condition, most with holes in them. Also had to share riding helmets which makes sense for safety but was kinda gross as I thought about it. I’m not into sharing like that. The riding was beautiful, scenery great. The rest of the tour was awesome. I can’t say enough good things about it. I’ve already recommended it to a handful of people.

I was excited at the opportunity to do a trail ride and see some sights.
But throughout the day all the activities seemed a little ‘fly by the seat of your pants’.
The horse ride was great once it started but it ran late because there was a kids lesson finished when the trail ride was starting. Organisers were running around looking very disorganised and talking over each other. It took forever to organise my horse and I was left standing about while everyone else got mounted and when we started I had to listen to one guide yell at the other that they had to ‘make up 10 minutes’. Like it was the fault of those riding. Surely they knew who was coming and how many?
The sight seeing tour by bus was also rushed. Sites were great but the guide/driver kept pushing us to hurry or wait till the next stop to use a bathroom for instance but would the stand for 10-15 minutes at a time telling us about a movie we should watch of a conversation he had with his wife about an actor. And god forbid we ask him to stop to take a photo of a pretty scene.

Horseback riding in the mountains was amazing! And our guide Matt was very informative and quite funny. Matt was so kind and helpful to another tour guest that required extra attention and help and he was infinitely patient and kind. We had a great day.

It rained all day which made the ride a little chilly - but our guides at the barn were great!
Then Gillian, our van driver and tour guide, took us on the rest of the tour. She went above and beyond to keep us warm and comfortable the rest of the day - she dropped us off at the restaurant for lunch then ran home to get some dry jackets for everyone. She also drove us to the Upper Lake where we normally would have walked to, but we were all soaked and cold and it never stopped raining. Even with the not so ideal weather, it was a really fun, educational tour. Gillian is an outstanding tour guide - funny and so knowledgeable!

Hi, I'm really intrested in that tour, but am worring a little bit about the expected horse riding skills. Trotting is certainly not a problem for me, but I would rather do without a longer canter, as the last time I sat on a horse was three years ago. Do you think I could take part in the tour?
Thans for your help!

If you're athletic you'll be fine. It's a slow trot the entire tour but one portion you ride like a cowboy. Very brief though. You'll enjoy it.

Good evening,
I'd like to book this tour program on the 9th of July, however, there was no slot available for 3 people at the moment. Is there any way to put us on standby booking? If there's any cancellation, We(03 adults) would like to join this program. 01 person is first time rider, 02 ppl are experienced with horseback riding. Thank you!

I'm not aware of a weight limit I know we had to submit our weight in the application and I think that helped determine the horse they would use. I weigh 250 and thus got a larger horse.
