This was our first multiple day tour so when we starting searching we knew we didn’t want to be on a huge bus with lots of people. We couldn’t have made a better choice then Vagabond. Both our guides Brian and Mark were just wonderful! They were personable, had great sense of humor, they were very informative and their singing was top notch!! 😀
We loved the fact that we were able to go places that larger groups couldn’t we met so many amazing local people and stayed at some great places-even a castle!
We had a great group of just 15 people so we were able to get to know each other which was wonderful!!

Kudos to Vagabond!!

Hi Kathleen & Guy, Thanks very much for taking the time to leave a great 5 star review, we really appreciate it. Small group is definitely the way to go. We wouldn't be able to get off the beaten track with a large bus and where's the fun in that! We're delighted you were happy with your choice and enjoyed your time with Brian & Mark. Our guides are very passionate about what they do and we are very proud of them. It's great to hear you got on well with your group, we always say it feels like family towards the end of the trip. Thanks again and hopefully we'll get to see you again soon!

My mother and I had the dream trip to Ireland and got home just about a week ago. Vagabond was fantastic to work with. Many tour options from active to more laid back. We chose the more active option. Alan was a great tour guide on our off the beaten track adventure. There was a mix of lovely accommodations, most of them right on the water. We visited some lively towns and some that were tucked away. Ireland is magical and I would highly recommend Vagabond Tours for your visit. You will not regret it.

We just returned home after our 7 day World Tour of Ireland. Only one word to describe our trip, FABULOUS ! What a great time. From the Cliffs of Moher to Blarney Castle and everything in between, it could not have been more exciting and enjoyable. Brian, our guide, was extrodinary. He was extremely knowledgeable, funny and caring. What a great pleasure it was having him as our guide. I must also say that our tour group couldn't have been friendlier. It was a great joy to have people we had never met before the tour become friends during our adventure.

My adult daughters planned this trip for the 3 of us. I loved getting to see and experience Ireland without having to plan each day by ourselves.

Very organized trip with lots of laughter, history and great story telling by our guide Tim. Every one of our accommodations was very welcoming, clean and the breakfast that was included was delicious.

Tim gave us plenty of time to ourselves for shopping and exploring the cities as we made our way through the tour.

Ireland is a wonderful place!

At the end of July 2018, I joined the Vagabond 7 Day Tour of Ireland.

The Mood – upbeat adventure. As a single, I wondered how I would fit in the overall dynamics of the tour. Within one hour of the beginning our tour, we bonded as a big family for the week. This important framework set the tone for the entire tour.

The Guide - I’m sure all Vagabond directors are fantastic, but our group was fortunate enough to get THE VERY BEST. Our guide, Tadhg (pronounced like “Tig” in the word Tiger), has the perfect rounded personality, education, group management skillset, outdoor sports expertise, and driving experience. Everywhere we went, Tadhg narrated the intricate related historical details of important Irish events through time, delivered in an entertaining style and with a sharp wit. The appropriate Irish music (classic and contemporary) was regularly piping in the background. His personality was a significant factor in the overall enjoyment of the trip. He was confident in managing the group and not a single day went by without numerous jokes and laughs. Lots of CRAIC! If you don't know what that means yet, you'll find out in Ireland!

The STYLE/AGENDA - There are many ways to travel around Ireland. This tour had an underlying theme of “active” – each day had activities (either optional or included) where you really got moving. Sneakers AND hiking boots a must when packing! At the same time, there was a nice balance of the number of things planned daily…time to smell the roses, (or in this case, fields of heather). AND SHOP…in the little villages we hit. No quaint shop went undiscovered. We are on holiday, after all! Along the way, the places we stayed and the friendly Irish people we met were so memorable. The places we WENT…many “must see” and many “secret” or “off road” were absolutely wonderful.

The tour gives enough flexibility during evening and free hours that if you want to break off and do your own thing, you can (and are encouraged). It was delightful to not feel pressured to always be doing group activities, but to be included whenever the timing felt right.

Irish coffee, anyone? Just pull the van over! Throughout the trip, we were spoiled with Tadhg’s pop up kitchen and homemade, authentic Irish coffee. These lovely little nips spoiled us (wondering how to keep this up now that I’m back to work!)

Skellig Landing – Tadhg made the impossible happen. We were both wait-listed for the trip, and he worked his magic with the locals and got us on that boat. He probably wished he hadn’t when he watched me barf my brains out from motion sickness.! The trip was SO worth it, and I felt so lucky to have gone. It was terrifying and breath-taking at the same time.

I look back very fondly on my Vagabond tour and thankfully, I have 1,126 photos to help reminisce. I can’t wait to return! Thanks again to Tadhg, Vagabond, and to the very special friends (tour family!) made on our tour bus.

Hello AmyFredJo,it sounds like your trip was unforgettable in so many ways! You are certainly not the first or the last to suffer a little sea sickness on that boat trip, but you are right, it is so worth it. Tadhg is a brilliant addition to our Vagaguide Team and we are so lucky to have in our family. That is alot of photos, be sure to print a few out and pop them in some frames, free art after all! Our Vagabond tours are all about being active and enjoying your vacation, we all need to have flexibility on our vacation. Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review of your Vagabond Cultural Experience. Rob Rankin, Owner.

We did the 8 day Wild Irish Rover Vagabond tour, mostly focused in southwest Ireland. We are usually independent travelers who do our own thing. This was actually the first tour we ever did. And given the itinerary, activity level, small groups and amazing guides (knowledgeable, personable, outgoing, and relaxed), we had a great trip and would gladly book another!

We enjoyed the daily activity, whether hiking, biking, kayaking or horse-back riding. The accommodation was top notch and we were treated very well at each property / pub. There was one bed that did seem like it had better days but overall lodging experience was excellent.

The 4x4 vehicle allowed us to visit places we would never find on a typical tour bus or even on our own. They also knew where to eat in each town, which musicians were in town, and when to pre-book a table vs when we could just go with the flow. We had many great experiences including a night of local music with one of Ireland's best accordion players.

Darran, our guide, truly wanted us to have a great trip. He was our activity leader, driver, guide, encyclopedia, music guru (playing many Irish bands), and ensured our group of 7 got along great. And when he heard we had Irish routes he added specific sites relevant to the family name....we felt like we were on a personal tour!

Overall, we felt the tour was well worth the price. We came home with great memories and new friends! We hope to return!

First time out of the country. I couldn't ask for a better place to start. The Irish people were friendly and engaging.
Our Vagabond Company tour, in a 16 person passenger van, was the right size and we went to great places. Importantly, we stayed moving - plenty to do and see and for most of the trip, the time at each place was properly calculated.
I can't say enough about our guides - including Pat - whose knowledge of history and location was encyclopedic.

This is the first time on a group tour and it will not be my last. I loved not having to plan anything but maybe figuring out what/where to go for dinner/and lunch. Our guide was fantastic. The countryside is just lovely. A couple of times I did feel a little rushed especially visiting the blarney castle(this was our long day and we had to get towards the hotel) but the overall experience was very positive. The day spent exploring Dingle was a welcome rest day.

Just back from a week-long Vagabond tour with my son (age 16) some of his classmates, their parents and a teacher from his school who had done the same tour, a couple of times, before. I highly recommend Vagabond and our excellent guide/driver Edwina who knows so much about the places great and small (all are well-selected by the tour company), along the way. We experienced a tour that was exactly as advertised, “a great blend of outdoor activity, great scenery, relaxing pubs and moments that you will remember for years to come.”

The adventure included hikes to historic places, national parks, biking, horse-back riding, ocean excursion, surfing for the boys, and so many photo moments—both planned and unexpected—throughout the beautiful countryside of western Ireland. Points visited included: Cork and Kerry; the Ring of Kerry; Kenmare; Portmagee; two nights in Dingle; Spanish Point; Annascaul; Galway City; the village of Cong; Lahinch; Clifden; the Cliffs of Mohr and a half-dozen other locations in Ireland’s most beautiful and scenic region. All along the way, there were fun things for the kids to do and for the parents, including plenty of live music and great food, when we took a break from exploring the countryside.

Our guide, Edwina, has the knowledge, enthusiasm, leadership skills and engaging personality that makes her a natural helper, interpreter of local history (both natural and cultural) and a terrific public representative of Vagabond Tours. During our travels, we also encountered several of Edwina’s Vagabond colleagues, and they were also positive, up-beat and well-informed. Kudos to Vagabond for attracting such great knowledgeable people--and for putting together amazing tours that deliver on what’s promised and that meet or exceed the expectations of those travelers who put our faith in their company for an enjoyable up-close-and-personal Ireland adventure.

Hello RJK3000, thank you so much for your Vagabond Adventure Tour Review. Wow sounds like you really got to embrace all the fun activities on offer. We do cover a fair bit of ground on our tours, which is a great way to see Ireland, off the beaten track. Edwina is amazing, as are all our guides, we are very lucky to have such a great guide team. We hope to see you again one day soon. Kind regards, Rob Rankin, Owner.
