About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- brucesX4151XI0 contributionsDublin Must-DoI had no idea about the history of Newgrange and Knowth until I took this trip. It’s crazy to think about them being older than the Pyramids and Stonehenge. And, going inside Newgrange was great. Matt is a great tour guide who went the extra distance in explaining the monastery ruins we visited.Written 11 September 2024
- oncleiroh0 contributionsVery nice but can be improved for the hikersIt is a nice turn. The driver was nice. We were very impressed by all the explanations he gave us during the drive. It was very interesting. The only thing that disappointed us is that we don't have enough time to do the longest trail in Connemara National Park. Because we need around 2,5 hours for this trail and we have only around 2 hours before the bus living. In addition to that, we lose around 30-40 minutes of the walk in the national park because we are not dropped at the entrance of the park, and we have to reach it first. But it is an interesting trip and you have nice landscapes. Thank you again!Written 11 September 2024
- 668krystelj0 contributionsLovely tomeSuch a beautiful time and my favorite tour I took while in Ireland. There were 12 of us in a van and only 4 of us went riding. They take you through the Wicklow area on I think shire horses. They’re sweet and even the most novice rider wouldn’t have an issue. Derrick shared so much fun and interesting information through out the drive and stopped at some beautiful places. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see the country sideWritten 8 September 2024
- lisak57850 contributionsFantastic Day Trip - Matt was an awesome guideThis was a terrific day trip. Our driver and guide, Matt, was outstanding and passionate about Irish history and culture, so we learned much more subject matter than what was covered specific to our stops. This is also an outing which is less dependent on good weather than other countryside adventures. Highly recommend!Written 3 September 2024
- ElleMeno0 contributionsGreat trip, long day (would have paid same for 1/2 day)Really well run tours! Matt was our tour guide and bus driver. Really interesting guide with tons of knowledge. The tour at Newgrange and Knowth was amazing! The day could have ended after this tour and gone back to Dublin and I would have happily paid the same amount of money. The abbey and monastic site were interesting, too, but after lunch (and the bus seats are made for people with very short legs) I was ready to head back to Dublin. Just prepare for a long day--bring water and snacks, and prepare for a variety of weather -- we went from rain to wind to bright sun over the course of the day. Highly recommend! I just wish more companies offered half day tours.Written 27 August 2024
- Alena520 contributions100% recommendedIt was an incredible tour with an amazing guide (Kevin) who told us interesting facts and stories and beautiful scenery. The horseback riding (1.5h) was really fun as well and the guides really made sure that one felt taken care of.Written 25 August 2024

- jsilverman830 contributionsNewgrange and Knowth were awesome! The tour had 24 people on it, despite the website saying there would only be 16 max. The coach was small, but comfortable with USB chargers (but no wifi). The guide, Matt, was awesome -- super nice & entertaining & informative. We spent almost the entire time at Brú na Bóinne and while there we did the tours of Knowth and Newgrange, plus had time for lunch and shopping in the gift shop, as well as looking at this little displays/museum in the visitor center. The 2 sites were amazing and super interesting, lunch was fine, and the displays were pretty meh. We also stopped at Monasterboice and Mainistir Bhuithe which were cool old sites as well.Written 15 August 2024

- Tom A0 contributionsBe careful when choosing a guided tour.First I’d like to explain that Kevin gets 5 stars for his job as driver/guide. He ticked all the boxes as far as driving safely, explain sites and answer questions. My issue is the website should explain a little more thoroughly that if you chose a guided tour, that means you won’t be able to see the house or gardens. Maybe I didn’t read thoroughly but I had hoped a guided tour meant of the house and gardens themselves. We were surprised that means you actually miss the house and garden portion of the tour. Also to someone in only fair physical condition the hike is slightly strenuous. I don’t think we were tricked or anything, but am more disappointed that this isn’t explained more thoroughly while choosing this option.Written 13 August 2024

He was full of interesting stories of the long history of Ireland. Matt was the best tour guide I have met in a long time. We got far more than our money's worth with Matt as our guide. I would book another tour with him without a second thought.Written 7 August 2024

Of our 7 day visit to Dublin, this was our worst unfortunately. I will write everything as it happened, so you get an idea of our experience. Keep in mind I usually give 5 stars in my reviews.
We arrived just 4 minutes late that morning, because it was raining throughout out 20+ minute walking to reach the destination. I received no phone call as it happens with all tours when you are late, so we thought it was fine. When we arrived, there was a hilltop treks on the spot and we entered it. This was apparently not our group exactly, as this bus was visiting the Powerscourt gardens, whereas we wanted to do the hike (this was the reason we booked with this tour). There was a nice tour guide on this bus, who accepted us and called the other tour guide who had left, and agreed we will all meet at Powerscourt.
When we arrived, we went to the bus we belonged to, where we found Johnny the tour guide saying to a family who had also booked the hike that it is very muddy for the last 3 days, as he has been on the mountains for 3 days, and he doesn't recommend it. By the way at this point the weather was sunny and warm. He even said that my hiking books were not actually hiking boots (sorry Jack Wolfskin). When I asked him why they did not tell us earlier, as they had a phone call before we left Dublin, he said how could he know before hand that it would be muddy (completely cancelling his statement that he had seen it for the last 3 days). When I asked if we could do the riding, he said he can't make horses appear out of nowhere (fair, but if they had told us 3 days ago about the mud, we would have said we want the riding). He even said the mistake was ours because we were 4 minutes late in the morning. The other group gave in and agreed to see Powerscourt instead. I still wanted to do the hike, and he started yelling that he could still take us for the hike but it would be our problem if it was a complete swamp. As you can imagine, we were very disappointed at this point as the hike was the reason we joined the tour. In the end we agreed to do the gardens.
The gardens were very boring, we walked the whole thing in 20 minutes. Johnny paid for our ticket, but the difference between what he paid and what we paid for the hike was still higher, and we never heard back for a refund. We did not know what to do to kill our time in Powerscourt. In the end, we saw he came back with the riding tour, so we were thinking all this happened because there was no tour guide available for the hike, so we felt even more cheated.
Afterwards they left us in a small and very poor coffee shop (?) which was too expensive for what it offered (there was a huge fly on the food they were offering).
Then we had the best time of the tour, which was seeing the bog (we went with the first tour guide again, who was very nice) and then we went to Glendalough, for which we had a very brief introduction outside the area. Thank God inside there was an archaeologist who told us and showed us interesting aspects of the site. We walked to the lake and back (we had to run our way back due to the ridiculously short time they gave us for this stop).
All in all, we only liked hearing about the bog from this company. What a waste of time and money.

I'm very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your tour with us. We do everything we can to accommodate our guests and give them the best guided experience. This is very irregular. I wasn't there personally so I can not account for this particular situation, although this is the first I heard of it. I will ask the guides in question what happened so it doesn't again. Thank you for your feedback.

Powerscourt Japanese Gardens are amazing and Glendalough settlement is worth it. Matt went above and beyond sharing his wide knowledge of Ancient Ireland to bring background and connectivity to the places we visited. Well worth every penny.

The time spent at PowersCourt was really worth the trip. I would have appreciated a little more preparation for suggested routes to walk around the grounds in the time allotted. Unfortunately rain dampened the experience someone at Glendalough but I still enjoyed it greatly. Matt, the bus driver made the best of the situation and was a cheerful and practical presence throughout, with good information, and facts to enlighten the experience.
I do wish there had been a policy for mandatory mask wearing on the small van. I wore a mask throughout, but two passengers coughed continuously and made me quite anxious. I was the only one wearing a mask…

Thank you very very much for the very positive review. With the policy towards masks wearing, it is really up to each individual and impossible to enforce although we definitely do not discourage.

Our guide, Matt, was pleasant and helpful, and went out of his way to look after us. The sites were lovely. My one complaint was the bus. We were 16 people jammed into a small bus. I was in the back row with 4 others. Limited view out the window, and squeezed shoulder to shoulder. It would go a long way to improving the experience if you limited the tour size to 13 people or got a bigger bus.

Current covid restrictions meant that we could not stop in Eiskenny for lunch and we had longer at Powerscourt to explore and eat. I thought it was too much time there and not enough time at Glendalough. We had 90 mins and it would have been nicer to spend more time there exploring some of the walking trails or taken a picnic.

This was a great tour. Our guide’s name was Matt and he knows so much about the history of Ireland. The Wicklow mountains are breathtaking. We were not in Ireland for very long so this tour was a great way to see sights we wanted to see in one day without having to do the driving. We also stopped for lunch in a quaint town and ate at a restaurant called Poppies which was very good.

Highly recommend this tour company as we travelled in a small bus with a knowledgeable and fun driver/guide. Plenty of time to explore the attractions and we loved the experience of exploring Powerscourt (highly recommended) and the Wicklow Mountains (brilliant). The guide was prepared to stop at a variety of locations and ensured the success of this experience

The tour is really beautiful, specially Powerscourt gardens and Wicklow; Glendalough was ok too. But, by far, the best of the tour was our guide, Johnny. He changed the planned route to let us get the most of the trip despite de bad weather and made the tour more enjoyable with his stories. Nice job, Johnny, thank you from Asturias

The tour overall was nice, did the gardens portion, but did not give 5 stars as we did not have lunch in Enniskerry for no good reason. It was not busy and instead Johnny to us to this depressing compound called Glencree with a basic takeaway type of cafe with only "snacks". But the walkers of the group got to have free time in Enniskerry while the rest did not. I know because he came to pick us up after 2 hours at the garden and then went to the village to pick up the 4 others. They boarded to van with purchases made in the village. It seems like time was taken off our lunch for more garden and walking time, which we did not need. We also only got 30 mins at the snack location, but that was ample as there was nothing to see nor really eat that was any good as lunch. Other reviewers never said anything but having lunch in the very pretty Enniskerry. Maybe only Johnny doesn't do lunch in the village. A big disappointment as I was looking forward to that part of the tour. Even if you can't go there, how about another nice village vs. the location we got? The other place was just awful as was the history of it. A very depressing and sad looking location, not a village. We did stop twice for pictures and then on to the Abbey ruins. Since I had no lunch, I had to take time to eat at the final stop and did not have much time for the ruins as expected. Overall Johnny was an informative guide, having a small group was nice. The gardens were beautiful, as was the ride through Wicklow. But you really should do something about advertising lunch in a pretty village, over a snack place at a former barracks that housed orphaned children and was not a nice place for them. Unfortunately for us and fortunately for others, it seems the exception to bypass the village. It was probably worse knowing some of the group that had the guided walk got to visit the village, maybe put that in the advertisement so we can decide which we prefer to do better.

Hi. Is there any free time in the Wicklow mountains to explore alone or is it a fully guided tour ?
Written 4 January 2020
I remember there was a period of free time at Glendalough and that we drove through Wicklow with at least one stop for photos.

what extra costs does it involve and is it suitable for persons with some walking difficulty

Powerscourt involves walking. Some of the paths are relatively easy, but there are wooded paths that are more difficult.

For our tour, they used a small van that fit about 15 people. The tour was great and you get a lot of time to explore all the sites by yourself, at your own pace. The driver was very interesting himself and knowledgeable. Also stopped in a small village for a lunch break. Great tour!
