- 1Irish Whiskey MuseumStop: 60 minutesMake your way to the Irish Whiskey Museum to meet your guide and begin your 1-hour whiskey experience. Located in the heart of Dublin’s city center beside the famous Trinity College, the museum can be easily reached by bus, Luas and DART lines. Choose a tour time that suits you, and then set off on an enlightening journey through the history of Irish whiskey. Affectionately called 'uisce beatha' (Gaelic for 'water of life'), the Irish have been distilling the spirit for centuries. In the 19th century, whiskey was the drink of choice in Ireland and across many parts of the world, but the Irish Potato Famine, Prohibition and various wars all contributed to the drink’s demise. As you make your way through the museum, trace the rise, fall and recent resurgence of Irish whiskey, and listen to your guide share stories about whiskey through the ages and examine displays of rare whiskey memorabilia. End your experience with a whiskey tasting. Take a deep sniff of the powerful spirit, before tasting the smooth tipple. If you’ve chosen to upgrade your experience, you’ll get to sample a premium aged whiskey and take a souvenir home as a memento of your experience. The tour concludes after the tasting, but you may wish to head to the retail area to pick up some whiskey merchandise or visit the bar, where you can sample more of the golden elixir in a range of whiskey-based cocktails (own expense).Read more

There is a lot of history when it comes to Irish Whiskey. In Dublin alone, you have several distillers more than willing to share their thoughts and tell you their 'secret' which makes them the 'best'. However, for an unbiased tour of the history, as well as a small sampling of a few key products, the Irish Whiskey Museum is worth the price of admission.
Speaking of the price of admission, you have several options. We went with the premium package and while not a must, the premium (an extra sample and a souvenir glass) is more than fair for the small extra in price. The good news is everyone gets the same tour and the only difference is at the end, so your group can mix and match as they feel.
The guided tour consists of a few rooms used to set the stage for the story the tour guide will be telling and the history being described. You'll get to ask questions, watch a few videos, and listen to some audio as well. The entire experience should take about an hour and is easy to fit around other tours in the area such as Trinity College.
I'm glad we fit this museum in over our last day and recommend you add it to your list as well.

This is an absolute gem and you'll find it directly opposite the main entrance to Trinity College. We saw it as we came from Trinity after visiting the Book of Kells exhibition and went straight in - no pre-booking. We had only about 10 minutes to wait for the next guided tour so we saved browsing in the shop until afterwards. We've visited lots of distilleries - whiskey in Ireland, whisky and gin in Scotland, and rum in the Caribbean. This isn't a distillery so you'll not see whiskey being made but you will learn a lot about the processes involved and a bit of history and folklore and, of course, a bit of tasting and recommendations for whiskies and local pubs to visit. We were on the premium tour (21 euros with 4 whiskies to taste). A classic tour with just three tastings is 18 euros. Following the recommendation of our guide, Leo, we went to Keogh's for a quiet early afternoon drink after the tasting and spent a long time in the duty free shop at Dublin airport choosing our whiskies. That's another 6 bottles. I need a bigger sideboard! Thanks, Leo!

I visited the Irish Whiskey Museum on Sunday 3rd of March and bought the Whiskey Museum Experience. Our guide Dónal was very informative, friendly and funny and kept me engaged through out the whole tour. The other participants on the Tour seemed to enjoy the experience as well, probably due to tha fact Dónal would speak a few words in their own language which in my opinion makes the tour more personal. It was also fantastic that Dónal cwas a fluent speaker of the Irish language as I myself am a native speaker and being a regular visitor to other attractions around Ireland, its rare to have a tour guide with the same grip on the Irish language. For me this is especially important as I love informing foreigners of our native tongue as it it unique to this Island.
Over all I would highly recommend a visit to the Irish Whiskey Museum as the location is slap bang in the center so it is not hard a all to find. The staff are friendly and informative and i simply enjoyed the over all experience.

Tiernan was funny, educational, and entertaining. We learned a lot about the history of whiskey. I found that the different rooms we traveled to within the museum really helped get us in the right mindset not just to taste the whiskey, but immerse ourselves in the whole experience. I was originally going to book a tour at the Jameson Distillery, but I'm really, really glad I booked at the museum instead. Not only was it cheaper, but we got to try lots of different kinds of whiskey and I learned about pot still whiskey, which I originally knew nothing about. It's beautiful by the way. Of course, once I tried it there, I had to drink it all over Dublin! Would 100% recommend doing this tour. My only regret is that I didn't upgrade the tour so I could sample even more whiskeys!

A Seanchaà of the greatest quality gave our tour a historical perspective on the origins and evolution of Irish whiskey. The tour takes place all within the same building making weather a non-issue. The tour culminated in a tasting of four whiskey as part of a premium package. The same package included a souvenir glass. They indicated that some of the whiskey is rotated due to supplies, making each visit unique.

Situated in the centre of Dublin, this tour was a great way to learn about Whiskey. I went on the premium tour which gave me the opportunity to try 4 Whiskey's and get a souvenir glass at the end. But first the group was thoroughly entertained by Dan our guide. He led us on a story travelling room to room on Irish Whiskey history. I liked how Dan brought the stories to life and how this cleverly interacted with sound effects.
After the hour long tour and my 4 Whiskeys, I stayed on at the bar for an Irish coffee. Enjoyable all round experience

Fun, occasionally funny and informative, if shorter than the alcohol museum tours I'm used to when I travel (a shade under one hour). Possibly also a *tad* campy, but it's oriented toward tourists after all—especially where it's located in downtown Dublin—and so that's accepted. Appreciated that they kept it moving from room to room, rather than being lectured at in one place for 45 minutes; didn't get the sense that I was learning anything I couldn't have picked up from a brief foray onto Wikipedia but again, that's exactly why I was doing the tour, because I had 5 days in Dublin and no plans to waste more of that time on Google than strictly necessary. Get the premium package if you have the spare change; you get to try an additional whisky in the tasting room, and the snifter glass you get to take home with you is cuter souvenir than expected.

My husband and I got to the museum about an hour earlier than our scheduled time. While we waited, we wandered around their cool souvenir shop and had a cocktail at the bar. There was a tour guide available and we were offered to move our tour to the earlier time. A chance for just the two of us to have a personal tour rather than being with a large group of people? Why not! Yes please!
Our tour guide was Fionn. He was very knowledgeable of whiskey history, and he was patient with us and our few stupid jokes. He was kind and led us through the museum at the perfect pace. At the end, during the tasting (we did the Premium one, 4 whiskeys instead of 3 with a souvenir Glencairn whiskey glass), he was very helpful in aiding us identifying our palate preferences and gave us brand recommendations. This museum does not get extra $$ for recommending or offering specific whiskeys, unlike some other tastings/museums, so we feel we got an honest recommendation.
I'm not a huge straight-alcohol fan, and I'm new to whiskeys, so we originally booked this tour for my husband and the history, but we left with a smile on our faces, a warm belly from the whiskey, a new understanding of whiskey and Irish history, and a new perspective of the buildings in the city. We HIGHLY recommend this museum and their tours, and Fionn in specific (although every employee we interacted with, both at the souvenir shop and the bar were wonderful.) If and when we go back to Dublin, we will be making a stop here again.

The tour was super fun with Jeanette's storytelling!
I hate public speaking myself but Jeanette genuinely made the tour so fun that I almost wanted to become a tour guide myself for a second (I wish I was kidding).
Even though the guides probably deliver so many tours a day, it was full of energy and felt really authentic. I normally have a hard time sitting down and listening for long periods, but the info was packed and presented so nicely into funny stories that it was really engaging and easy to follow, it felt like time flew by!! I brought my family and they loved it too, even though their English is a bit limited.
The tasting itself felt a little bit rushed, I would have loved to have like 1 min more of a break in-between the different whiskeys, but we got more time to finish them after so it was fine :)

Dan lead us through the history of whiskey in Dublin. It was entertaining, interesting, and funny! Dan took the time to learn about each of us in his audience and wove it into his stories. He also cracked himself (and us) up with his jokes, a sign of a great comedian and story teller. This tour was great fun and informative. Highly recommend! Lots of stairs, but an elevator for those who need it.
