What to expect
Begin your tour with convenient pickup at your Dublin hotel, where you’ll climb aboard a comfortable tour vehicle and set out into the Irish countryside. Enjoy the scenery and leave the driving to your guide on the way to Kilkenny Castle. Listen to your guide’s commentary on the history of the castle, built in the 12th century on the River Nore. Spend some free time exploring the chambers and the rose garden at your own pace, before heading out into the village of Kilkenny. Stroll the cobblestone streets, taking in sights of the monasteries, cathedrals, and Tudor-style houses. Meet up with your guide for a last stop at the 12th-century St. Francis Abbey Brewery before departing. Back on the bus, head over the picturesque Wicklow Gap into Wicklow Mountains National Park. Keep your camera at the ready and take advantage of the fact that someone else is driving, using that time to snap photos of the dreamy scenery instead. Stop at a local sheep farm to see border collies doing what they do best: herding sheep, a long-standing Irish tradition. Once you reach the glacial valley of Glendalough, take in sights of the glacial lakes and stop at the medieval monastery and tower. After an orientation from your guide, spend a while exploring independently before boarding the bus and returning to Dublin for drop-off.

This tour is wonderful and enjoyable and it is a must-do when visiting Ireland. I would like to say a special thank you to Sydney and Liam, who were the driver and tour guide, they made the whole trip very special with very informative and entertaining stories and facts and even songs, and throughout the whole day they were making sure that we get the most out of the trip. We felt very safe with Sydney, behind the driver’s seat and Liam went above and beyond and even sang songs that made our time unforgettable and so much fun! We went on this tour with some family members that were visiting Ireland in March 2022 and we loved it so much that I brought a second set of relatives visiting Ireland in May 2022. The sheep dog demonstration was very impressive and at the end we managed to get beautiful pictures with the baby lambs. We loved Kilkenny city, where we enjoyed visiting the castle and one of the local coffee shops. As part of the trip we also visited Glendalough and went on a beautiful nature walk and got a real feel for the beautiful countryside of Ireland. I highly recommend this tour to anyone as it packs in so many sights and experience in one day, while also being very enjoyable and relaxing! Huge Thank You to Sydney and Liam for the unforgettable tours, from Donna

Lovely tour from Dublin. Although the weather wasn’t very conducive to hiking in the Wicklow Mountains, we very much enjoyed the sheep dog demonstration (and getting to hold little lambs since we came in March!).

Kilkenny is a lovely town. Take some time to walk around if you can. We enjoyed some lovely lamb stew at Ketler’s Inn. We did the self guided castle tour, but in hindsight would have preferred to just explore the beautiful grounds around the castle (it’s free, and very large- at least a few km. To walk all the way around).

The Kilkenny Castle was very enjoyable. As a heads up, this tour does not include a tour of the actual castle, that is roughly €8, but it does go through another building and the gardens. We opted to do a self-guided tour of the castle, and think it is worth it. There is a lot to see and a lot of history to read about.

The Wicklow Mountains were absolutely stunning. We could have easily spent more time there. There are walking trails that are easy, moderate, and advanced. We only did the easy trail but felt like it gave plenty of views and we worked up a sweat. Throughout the park, we walked over pea gravel, concrete, a few bridges, and a few stairs.

The sheepdog trials were a short stop but a lot of fun. The owner did a demonstration with the dogs and sheep, then allowed us to see and hold baby lambs.

We were not a big fan of the guide we were assigned to, and preferred to go off on our own when off the bus. He did not seem very personable, and when he tried to give history on something his stories were extremely awkward and unbelievable. The best way to explain it is to say it was difficult to differentiate between “jokes” and facts.

The driver, Steve, was great. He was nice and we felt safe riding through the mountains and towns.

I think it is the definition of day trip from Dublin. It was so beautiful, relaxing and very well organised, that when I return to Ireland I will definetely book it again. Every part of the trip is like you are in a dream, wonderful sceneries, like time has stopped centuries ago. The lake was worth visiting by circling it and has so many small paths and trails that you need 2-3 days there to explore. The monastic way was so divine and few pilgrims were walking it. Kilkenny was definetely a surprise, such a small city - town and so many monuments and alleys and castles and a river through it. A negative would be that the castle required 8€ new year entrance, which nobody knew. It was advertised as free but 2022 demand changes. Also a great thanks and appreciation to Richard and Paolo. We did totally three day trips, with different guides and drivers. Everybody was friendly, welcoming and well informative. But I think its the character that makes a difference. Richard had a great sense of humour, didnt speak all the time, gave us time to relax, rest and laugh with decent good jokes. Also great Irish tunes to listen all day and great tour in Kilkenny. Paolo besides being an excellent driver, he was very informative and friendly as well. This is a must do tour for everybody coming to Dublin.

Here for only a short vacation in Ireland, this was a great way to enjoy a wide range of Irish attractions. We saw lots of historical sites, ate local food, and got to meet some very sweet lambs and sheep dogs.

While the bus ride portion is a bit long (although not as much as for other tours) our guide, Richard, knew so much about the areas we drove through that the driving portions were just as entertaining as the off-bus parts. Additional kudos to the driver, Warren, who operated so smoothly that even the seats in the very back were comfortable.

I’d recommend this to anyone who would want to maximize the number of Irish-essential activities within a single day, with a mix of riding and walking. Might not be a great option for families with super young kids who would get antsy, but an iPad plus the free Wi-Fi on the bus might be plenty to overcome this.

Will return!

What a spectacular day spent in Kilkenny, Glendalough and on the sheep farm! We can’t recommend this outstanding tour enough. Our incredibly friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, Anthony Kelly, along with experienced driver, John, made this day exceed our expectations. Anthony immediately connected with all the guests once we started rolling by walking the bus from front to back introducing himself to all the guests and learning a bit about each of us. Driving time passed quickly as Anthony shared his wealth of knowledge not only about our upcoming destinations but Irish history and folklore as well. He led the group through Kilkenny and Glendalough again sharing stories and history. John skillfully navigated the country terrain and dropped

Richard was an amazing guide tour! We had an good laugh with his jokes and he really managed to bring on an amazing experience and to show us another side of Ireland. You really feel like he's taking you into a part in history. Also, the countryside is gorgeous! Don't let his charm fool you though, he won't let you take a lamb back with you 🙄

Joke aside, this tour is absolutely worth every penny you pay and Co. Wicklow is an area we will sure come to visit again. Kilkenny is a city that truly deserves more than 2.5 hours and the experience at the sheep farm is something I really enjoyed.

Wonderful day trip from Dublin. Glendalough is beautiful. The sheep farm was welcoming and so interesting. Kilkenney was such a lovely city and we enjoyed the Yule Fest and window shopping. David, our guide, was helpful, informative, and attentive. Lisa, handled those winding mountains roads with ease! The only reason I gave 4/5 is because the tour was booked 100% which meant that you are PACKED into the bus and during Covid, it was too tight. The back seat should not be crammed with 5 people sitting shoulder/hip to shoulder/hip. It was very uncomfortable to be crammed that closely between strangers for a long day on the bus. One last note - if you have any tendency toward motion sickness, come prepared with motion sickness tablets and board the bus at the first loading location to get a seat closer to the front. We loaded at the second location and the bus was 98% packed. I ended up very motion sick going on through those winding mountain roads.

I booked this tour after a recommendation from a friend, who took the same day trip from Wild Rover a few years ago. The day trip was just as great as he said it would be, if not better. Even though it's just a day trip, you experience so much of south-eastern Ireland in one day, that I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that has a free day in Dublin.

Our guide, Liam, was absolutely phenomenal. We had a larger group (around 50), but he still found time to talk with everyone on the tour and answer our questions about Ireland's history and culture. Liam's walking tour of Kilkenny was amazing, and even though the walking tour was only an hour (out of the ~2.5 hours you'll get in Kilkenny), I learned more history about the town on his walking tour than I thought possible.

Gleann Dá Loch was one of my highlights of the trip, and seeing the Upper Lake is a absolute must. Probably one of the most gorgeous sights I saw in Ireland across my week there. It's one of those that photos don't serve it justice--you have to see it for yourself.

Warren was a fantastic driver and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him too.

Thanks again, Liam! Will be recommending your tour to anyone visiting Dublin!

Amazing day trip with Cathy and Joe the driver. Took a winter trip so the sheep farm and Glendalough were the first stops. The coach was clearly marked and arrived promptly at the pick up spot in the morning, they were really thorough in making sure we had everyone before we set off.
Cathy was very good during the coach journeys and used the microphone to point out landmarks and provide information.
The sheep farm was excellent, we were shown a demonstration by the farmer and then taken to a barn to learn about wool shearing and hold some lambs.
Glendalough is a beautiful spot and there were plenty of places to get food and drinks. Cathy provided information of the area to those who wanted it and gave easy to follow directions to the lakes.
Kilkenny was also a great experience and we were given the choice to follow Cathy for around 20 minutes where she had some great info to share about the city and then she recommended some places to eat as well.
We also stopped briefly in the Wicklow mountains at a photo spot and Cathy gave us a lot of interesting facts about the history of the area and also what movies had been filmed there.
It was a great day out with enough time to enjoy the locations and well worth the money. Would definitely go on a trip with Cathy and Joe again!
