This comic duo are amazing and their fantastic literary tour was one of the best things I did in Dublin. It was both fun and informative and we visited some lovely pubs whilst finding out about Dublin's literary history. Would highly recommend it to book lovers, but also those who just want a bit of a unique experience!

Entertaining and immersive, the literary pub crawl is a memorable evening of performance, learning, and drinking. Frank and Finbar were our dynamic hosts, both talented actors and knowledgeable guides in our tour of Dublin’s great authors. They told stories about Wilde and Joyce with so much humor that the famous writers sounded like old friends. This lively experience is a great time for any literature enthusiast who already loves, or is curious about, Ireland’s literary scene.

This was, by far, one of the highlights of our trip! Our travel itinerary prohibited us from joining one of the standard tours. So we contacted them to set up a private pub crawl. it was SO worth it! Colm was engaging, funny, informative, fascinating... I cannot recommend the pub crawl excursion highly enough. If you like literature, sociopolitical history, laughing, pubs, etc...this is your trip!

Booked this trip even though not really a book person. But I’ve got to say it was excellent. The stories imparted were delivered in a way that you didn’t think you were back in school. The pubs we stopped at were all welcoming and we had a area reserved for us. I learnt a lot not just about the writers but there back stories and there struggles in life. The Quiz at the end was a nice bit of fun to end the evening.

Frank and Finbar gave their all to make this experience a great one. Their rendition of the final scene from Godot was exquisite. Other scenes and recitations were exhilarating and moving, everything that you’d pay top dollar for for a Broadway show! And the fact they can just move right out of character into jovial host mode was wondrous. And did I say how much fun they generate for the participants? I don’t know how this production company keeps its prices so low; obviously I think this experience was worth every cent and more.

Would that we had picked another night/ another month. We abandoned the tour before its end--not because of the content or guide but because of the crowds. A Friday night during both the World Cup and the 12 Pubs of Christmas was not the time for two women in their late 70's to be elbowing their way through the masses. Not every stop was a bar so we can stress that Finbar certainly knew his material and was an impressive presenter. Alas we reluctantly surrendered to reality and missed the last two stops.

Not only was the pub crawl fun, I learned a lot as well. For our last night in Dublin, this was perfect. A lot of fun and learning was packed in to a relatively short time. What made it even better was the fact that our "hosts" enjoyed themselves as well.

There are 850 pubs in Dublin. We started at The Duke, one of many James Joyce favorites. Over the course of the 2.5 hour evening, our guide (whose name we forgot) and his singing sidekick John gave us an enjoyable tour through several pubs in the vicinity of Trinity College and St.Andrew’s church (by the Molly Malone well loved statue) with quotations and stories about Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Brendan Behan and others, interspersed with songs and historic highlights of the pubs (including one of several 1st editions of Ulysses—see my other reviews. This is a tour you do to catch the spirit of less than highbrow nights in Dublin

Frank and Kevin opened with a tour de force performance from Becketts “Waiting for Godot”. It was mesmerizing. Both actors have the extraordinary ability to flow from character to character while chatting and leading a large group through the streets and hostelries of Dublin.
We met Oscar Wilde, Rashers Tierney, James Joyce and Nora Barnacle and many more as we imbibed our way through the Dublin landscape.
My favorite pub was saved for last, Davy Byrnes. Such a beautiful emporium of good cheer!
Absolutely a must for any bibliophile visiting Dublin

This was an amazing evening of literary history and entertainment. Finn, our energetic guide and actor, was a fantastic guide, especially with the large group for the evening. And his host co-pilot, John, provided some fun Irish music and singing. The tour was well-paced overall, but I would recommend a little more time at each pub stop as the allocated time was rather short to enjoy an entire pint...so we recommend you enjoy a smaller glass of beer at each spot, then revisit later if you enjoyed the pub.

Hi! I will be in Dublin from the 5th-8th of April and I was just wondering if there will be a pub crawl on any of these dates? I cannot seem to find an overview of which days of the week the crawl is "crawled".
Sincerely,
Henriette

I'm pretty sure, too, that they do the pub crawl every night of the week. You do need to book in advance, though, because of its popularity. And it does start at The Duke, and you do have to go upstairs to check in.

Can I bring my 8 month old?

Well the answer is yes as long as you can carry he or she , as some of the venues are on the first floor, not many I seem to remember, so that would mean a buggy would have to be folded and carried up or find some where safe to leave it. It is noisy in places so that might be an issue

Hello,
We’re hoping to book a tour for tomorrow (Thursday), however the website says start time is 7.15pm. We read somewhere else that the tour starts at 11am. Is there anything available for 11am tomorrow for 2.
Many thanks,
Jacinta.

I suspect the evening time is correct. Part of the event can be having a pint (or two...) and that is likely better done in the evening!
