      Exceptional hospitality
Being from the States, my husband and I have NEVER experienced the level of hospitality that we experienced here, in Ireland. This was my very first time, traveling Internationally. At age 60,:this begins my husband and mine “decade of travel”. I would like to particularly point out the exceptional service that was provided on day 6 of our 6 day rail tour. We had a new tour guide, on this last day. His name was John Todd.; He was extremely pleasant and shared so much knowledge with the group, It was impressive. He was constantly looking out for the well being of each of us on the tour. At every stop, where we left the train/bus, Jon would count our group… making sure that we were all there and accounted for. I am on the “ slower” side and John NEVER made me feel rushed. He was communicative about when our “toilet” stops were approaching. The same when it came to our chances to pick up something to eat or get a beverage. He was equally as generous with his time. Overlooking how our meals were enjoyed, going from each car on the train to look in on the entire train ride back to Dublin. There really are not enough accolades to express what joy John contributed to our railway experience!!! It was beyond lovely, and lent itself to be one of our favorite experiences in Ireland. Please pass along our well wishes and gratitude to John Todd. Sincerely, Paul and Dineen Mello

Over the river and through the woods to the cliffs we go!
Beautiful Country!!! Definitely would go again but, I wouldn’t climb the steps in the castle. Great guide and driver. Wish it was a shorter day.

9 Days in Ireland- What a treat!
We booked the 9 Day Tour. The train travel and coaches were comfortable and on time. The tour hosts were friendly and knowledgeable. All of the sites we stopped at met our expectations. We didn’t have any surprises until the train trip from Galway to Dublin where we were incorrectly directed but that was easily managed and we all returned safely and none the worst for wear. Brian Duggan was our main guide and was very knowledgeable and kept us well informed. He was entertaining, had a sense of humour and did a great job managing the diverse group. When booking it was indicated it was for the independent traveller and that was the case. We had a lot of free time to do our own thing which was ideal for us. My only complaint is that it would have been nice to receive a full personalized trip itinerary prior to our arrival in Ireland. With today’s technology and for clients booking a lot of days there us no reason for this not being possible.

Breathtaking Views & Travel Made Easy
Breathtaking views made easy by the bus charter! This was a relaxing , easy tour as you are on the road for most of the tour, seeing the landscapes from the window, occasionally hopping on and off for photos and to take in the landscapes.

This was an incredible tour offering much to see. Highlights included a guided Bunratty Castle tour, the impressive Cliffs of Moher, and a stop for dinner in charming Galway. I especially loved our tour guide Ian! He was SO knowledgable, friendly and welcoming!

      A Must See Tour!
This was the highlight of my vacation in Ireland. I was staying in Dublin for my weeklong vacation and booked this tour to see Giant's Causeway and Northern Ireland. Railtours Ireland made traveling so smooth and hassle free. Peter was friendly and took care of us, offering tidbits of information along the way. This was such a great way to see many things in one day!

      Nice, But Not Great
The experience was good but not great. Spent most of the Ring of Kerry time on the bus. The times we did stop was at some place where they were hitting you up for extra money for something, either Irish Coffee or a sheep dog demo or an incredibly overpriced (albeit tasty) lunch.

Journey with John Todd: Cork, Blarney Castle, and Cobh Tour
Our tour with John Todd to Cork, Blarney Castle, and Cobh was an absolute delight from start to finish. John’s expertise and passion for the region shone through, enriching every moment of our adventure. From the moment we boarded the comfortable train, John’s warm welcome and engaging commentary set the tone for the day. His deep knowledge of the area’s history, culture, and hidden gems added depth to our experience, making each stop more meaningful. At Cork, we wandered through charming English market. The visit to Blarney Castle was a highlight, where John regaled us with fascinating tales of the castle’s storied past and ensured we didn’t miss the chance to kiss the famous Blarney Stone. Cobh’s picturesque harbor captivated us, and John’s insights into its maritime heritage and poignant history left a lasting impression. We loved the Cobh heritage centre where we discovered more about the Irish famine and the Titanic. Throughout the tour, John’s professionalism, humor, and genuine care for his guests were evident. He went above and beyond to ensure everyone felt welcomed and included, creating a sense of camaraderie among fellow travelers. Overall, our day with John Todd was nothing short of exceptional. His passion for his homeland, coupled with his expertise as a guide, made our journey through Cork, Blarney Castle, and Cobh truly unforgettable. We cannot recommend this tour highly enough – it’s a must-do for anyone looking to explore the beauty and history of Ireland with a knowledgeable and personable guide like John. Earl Carien

      Perfect a day trip
Our guide, John Todd, was perfect in every way. I was worried about my lack of English when I decided to travel alone, but he took care of me attentively from our first meeting. Cork was a great place, but I was deeply moved by John's guidance. I have so much respect and gratitude.

Dan and Kelly Moses in Ireland 2/28 to 3/10 - Dublin with trips to Belfast, Cork/Cobh, Cliffs of Moher and Galway.
My wife Kelly and I had amazing travels on the three rail tours in early March. Dublin to Belfast, Cork/Cobh then to Cliffs of Moher and Galway. The latter two, John Todd was our guide, and he was the best! He spent time with everyone in the group, extremely knowledgeable of all the sites and locations. Very special memories on this vacation, and these tours were a big part of them. Thank you Railtours and John Todd for an unforgettable experience. We will be back!

We had a fantastic time on our four day tour. Brian was informative, interesting and funny. He shared great tips and recommendations each day. It's a busy few days but we appreciated the organized itinerary. Yes, be prepared to move your luggage each day so pack accordingly. It's obvious. Chosen hotels and lunch stops were great. No complaints at all. We love Ireland and its people. Five star all the way.

We enjoyed a fantastic tour! Everything was excellent from start to finish. The tour guides (Terrence, Michael, Ian, Shelia and others) truly made the trip - they were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The sights, accommodations, food/beverage stops were all perfect. Thank you Railtours for making our first trip to Ireland so memorable!

We took the 6-day "All Ireland" tour, which is similar to the 4-day tour but with the Aran Islands and Northern Ireland added. The transportation was a combination of reserved car sections of standard trains and large and small coaches. We never knew, nor were we ever told, what kind or livery of bus would pick us up each morning. They kept changing buses and most often they were unmarked with no indication it was our tour bus. Also, they should provide bottles of drinking water on the bus. Our first hotel had no air conditioning so we had to keep the window open all night even though the hotel was hosting a very loud wedding party in the courtyard below until 2 am. The second hotel gave us a handicapped room with a king bed even though we requested a standard room with twin beds. They told us that was all that was available even though we signed up for the tour a month in advance. Our tour guide for the first three days was dismissive with one-on-one questions and comments, seemingly preferring only to speak to the group so as not to have to repeat himself (?). One coach had distorted audio so about a quarter of the descriptions were unintelligible. That was fun for two hours! This guide also seemed to be in need of a shower for all of the three days; it was unpleasant to be near him. Days 4 and 5 had extremely bumpy roads that lasted for about 1-1/2 hours, amplified by the short wheel bases of the small buses. The local bus on the Aran Island part of the tour had us waiting at the pick-up point (after the self-guided fort tour) for at least 45 minutes after everyone was ready to go, making it necessary to drive directly to the ferry even though some were assuming we would have time to shop in the town’s famous wool products stores. It was a total screw up on the train trip from Galway to Dublin. We were told in the written instructions for that day that there were no reserved seats on Sunday trains but that was wrong and so we were told by arriving passengers mid-trip that we were in reserved seats and had to relocate. We were NOT told that there would be a tour rep on the train with us so we assumed we had to make our own way to the hotel when we got off the train in Dublin. We almost got into our own taxi except that another traveler from our tour sprinted across the train station to stop us. Oh, and they made no time allowance for dinner on the last day (the day trip to Northern Ireland) so we ended up eating take-out noodles from a Chinese hole-in-the-wall across the street from the train station at 10:30pm. This six day tour, I understand now, is a composite of several short tours and so the composition of our "group" was a constant merging of new people, and so we felt isolated and unable to make acquaintances. All in all, you would be well advised to take a quality coach tour from a reputable company such as Trafalgar (which we have used in continental Europe with great satisfaction).

This tour was a great way to see some of Ireland’s highlights. Our guide, Jonathan B., was friendly, helpful, and informative. We did everything in the tour description and more. For example, we saw a demonstration of how trained dogs heard sheep. It was amazing.

An important note is that we never felt rushed. In fact, because our tour-mates were all courteous and returned to the coach on time, we often made brief unscheduled stops for photos, etc.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland.

Words cannot describe the beauty of Ireland that we experienced first hand on this 4 day rail tour. Our guides were awesome - for three days we enjoyed big Brian D who was incredible and the last day we loved Jonathan. There were 6 in our group including two kids, who learned so much. We appreciated the organization and professionalism during every sec of the tour. Jonathan used poetry and song to help us imagine the tragedy of the famine - his words were so eloquent. On the way back, he had fun w our family on the rail! Two of the members of our group enjoyed a rail tour two years ago and were so happy to see Jonathan again. Brian enjoyed Celtic Steps with us one night, and it was so much fun and an incredible performance! The scenic turnouts we made, special spots we visited, points of interest, scenic vistas could never have been obtained using just a guide book. We would be unable to choose our favorite sight, my grandson is enjoying having us “list” our top three! Thank you for helping to make our Ireland trip so problem free and enjoyable - we’re already planning our return!

Visited Ireland for the first-time and booked a tour for the majority of our stay. I really enjoyed how well-organized the tour was, and how friendly and knowledgeable the team was. Our guide, Andy, was great, couldn't have asked for better. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Ireland. Great combination of visiting historical sites and great places for photos, as well as down-time built into tour to visit restaurants, pubs and explore the city on your own. WiFi on the buses/train was a huge help with staying on top of flights, emails, etc.

I absolutely LOVED my four day tour! The sites, the food, and the commentary made the hole trip! I booked this last minute not knowing what to expect, but Brian, our tour guide, made everything fun and easy! Meeting at the train station was super simple and they had everything planned for us! You do need to pay attention as meet times can change, but they tell you all of this before you leave the bus/train. I’ve wanted to go to Ireland for along time and this trip was absolutely amazing. So glad I did it. No regrets! Will be using rail tours again!
